Re: Feature: How Video Games Can Be Brilliant For Your Mental Health

Duffman92

I‘ve always been an advocate for video games since I’ve been a gamer my whole childhood but I think it should not be your sole hobby or something you do all day. It‘s too easy to switch on your device and forget about the rest of the world. I know a few people who use gaming as a drug and developed a form of addiction and in my opinion it’s no different from drinking alcohol or smoking pot too often.

And for me personally, the question that I ultimately had to ask myself was: what do I actually accomplish that lasts? Will I tell my kids that I collected every trophy in some call of duty? Not everyone‘s a creator or an artist and not everyone needs to be one. But the digital world will not last for long and it will never be comparable to a vacation with your family or friends for example. All I say is play for a healthy amount of time and don‘t let the device own you.

Re: Video: Just What Is The Best Super Mario Game Of All Time?

Duffman92

I guess Nintendo fans will discuss this for next hundred years and there‘ll never be a definitive number one
Which is the one you can pick up and have instant fun with? For me it has to be SM64 with Odyssey being almost on the same level. That’s not to say the game doesn’t have it‘s flaws. The camera is arguably the most broken thing in SM64 by today‘s standards and there are a lot of frustrating moments for example when you fall off of broken edges. Nonetheless it‘s always a mad and joyful ride.

Re: The Aya Neo Air Is An OLED-Packing Handheld That Can Run Cyberpunk 2077 And GTA V

Duffman92

GTA V turns 10 by next year and the PS3 could run it as well. I‘m pretty sure the Switch could also run it easily, so there‘s not really an argument (yes, enhanced version etc. but still the same game).
Cyberpunk: Yes that one is probably harder to port to the Switch, but I guess that a studio like Sabertooth or Panic Button could get it done.

So what‘s the point? Buy a steam deck instead (if you‘re able to get one that is) if you want more power and let this thing to fade to obscurity.

Re: Reggie Talks About NoA Union Issues: "This Isn't The Nintendo That I Left"

Duffman92

People are spending too much time on their phones and thus get burnt out by everything else happening in their lives. This is an issue that no one addresses because it‘s become a part of our everyday lives. I‘m at work and using my phone at this moment. So my focus is not shifted towards the things I could do for the company but towards the things that I want to do for myself. As a consequence everything else around me is distracting me and stresses me out.
How are we going to solve this issue?

Re: Sonic's New Voice Actor For Sonic Prime Has Been Revealed

Duffman92

I wonder why they keep changing his voice so often. I mean, Nintendo also had/has different voice actors for TV shows and for the upcoming movie but I feel that for Sonic, who speaks a lot in the games, wouldn‘t it make sense to have the same one for the games and the movies?

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Will Reveal Some Skin, Unsurprisingly

Duffman92

Nothing against some boobies but there is simply no point in wearing less armor that protects you when fighting against other warriors. Maybe there is some general rule among these people that hitting boobs is considered a war crime, that‘s the only thing that would make sense to me.

Re: Metroid Prime Was Once A Third-Person Shooter About Eugenics

Duffman92

Thanks for sharing, some really cool insights. I can only imagine how hard it must be to produce around 1000 pages of a concept of a game only to have it scrapped and do another 1000 pages of work - and that twice!
There is a reason why many of these games are considered masterpieces today, people worked they‘re a**es off to produce the best thing they could. Nowadays people get burnt out easier it seems.

Re: Ori Developer Moon Studios Labelled "Oppressive" Workplace In New Report

Duffman92

If you don‘t like working there, then quit. I know it‘s not easy because you have to pay the bills and probably liked it there in the beginning. But ultimately it will leave you depressed and angry. If your company offers reduced work time then you might as well try that. That‘s what I‘m doing at the moment. My job is boring as hell but the company pays well and I kind of get it balanced by following my hobby (making music).

The thing is: if you really think your workplace is oppressive then talk to your boss about it. He might see your problems and is able to help. And if he does not listen or cannot help you it is not the right workplace for you. There‘s no point in posting it on the internet and start some sort of campaign. Try to see what you can do yourself. A good starting point is spending less time on social media or working out more often, taking walks, etc. We all have to deal with stress and it can get overwhelming at times but it‘s down on you to take the next step when something is not working out right for you.

Re: Mario Movie Producer Defends Chris Pratt's Casting, Says The Voice Is "Phenomenal"

Duffman92

"Finally, Meledandri was also asked about concerns surrounding a non-Italian actor being given the role."

Who is concerned about that? Seriously, this nonsense is getting too far. Let a white person voice a black character, a black person voice a white character, a female voice a male character, etc. They‘re characters ffs, it should not bother you. We all sound different and imitating what you hear does not automatically make you racist.

Re: Nintendo's American Branch Didn't Like The Idea Of GameCube Being Purple

Duffman92

"This pre-dates Apple. Picking your colour these days is like making a statement. But back then all the game systems were black […]"

I call this b.s. Apple released their colored imacs in 1998 and the N64 came in in a wide array of colors. Apart from that you had a grey PS1, SNES, NES (mostly). Heck, even wooden Ataris, etc. so I don‘t see a point in that.

Re: Digital Foundry Begins GTA Trilogy Analysis, Describes GTA 3 On Switch As A 'Big Mess'

Duffman92

Well calling it th definitive version probably wasn‘t the best move. How about GTA: The Trilogy: The Early Beta Version

That said, I won’t give a final opinion on it if I haven‘t played it myself. Much like carlos82 I‘d probably have fun with it…Still, I guess I have to agree that chraging 60$ is too much in this case given that actual remakes (not remasters) are usually 40$ despite being built from the ground up.
