Re: Splatoon 2 is Adding "Dualie Squelchers" in Weekend Update

DeltaPeng

Haven't seen any footage, but this is quite an interesting choice, since dualies are known for short range and rapid fire, but the squelcher is more a slow firing, semi-rapid long range gun.

If it's both high range and rate of fire, the damage would have to be fairly low to not make it OP

Re: Capcom Reportedly Gearing Up for Multiple Nintendo Switch Titles

DeltaPeng

Glad that Capcom plans to support the Switch!

I didn't think much of USFII, (particularly don't like the look of the eyes, though the environments and whatnot look great). Motion/animation also didn't look very fluid. But I'm also not much of a SF fan. I'm very much a fan of some of their other IP though, so hoping they bring some of that over (Mega Man, Phoenix Wright)

Re: Talking Point: Splatoon 2's Salmon Run Shows Off the Switch's Local Multiplayer Strengths

DeltaPeng

@Rontanamo_Bay Yup, we played 2 player Salmon Run locally, presumably goes up to the standard 4 players. Me and a newer squid played a couple rounds and had a tough time of it on 5-10% difficulty, I'm not sure if they scale difficulty based on player number. Definitely nice to have the option though

Aside from this, got a chance to check out Online Private match with 8 players. A Private Match room can hold up to 10 people, with a max of 2 players being Spectators. If there are 2 people Spectating, they can voice chat with each other (thought that was cool), as well as zoom in to see the action from any player. When in battle you can only chat with your team, which makes sense, but it'd be neat if you could have the ability to chat with everyone (i.e. for 1v1 matches, or casual matches and the like) as well as have more than 2 Spectators (perhaps I'll try and send Nintendo an email suggesting these features be added)

If anyone wants to Splatoon 2 online, add me:

While it's not super likely I think to have 8 people playing at a time, could be fun to get battles going i.e. 2v3 or whatnot, with the higher ranked players having fewer people on their team

As a note related to the article, I got to try local multiplayer Salmon Run with a friend recently (they had their own Switch and Splatoon2 game), worked pretty well, no hiccups from what I could see. We weren't using wifi, so the systems look to just connect wirelessly themselves like the 3DS

Re: Editorial: Nintendo, Somehow, Has Gone Backwards With Voice Chat on the Switch

DeltaPeng

From the review notes, if they could only have an easy way to reply, or send a subset of premade messages (Yes / No / Busy / Stop Messaging Me), then I think this app would be a lot more useful. Could always be patched in though.

Being able to push a request to the smart phone is a good idea I think, but without the ability to reply it loses a lot of point. Could still work out well with Streamers or popular Twitter people, as then you'd just want to let the people know and first come first serve, otherwise, not as easy/useful

Haven't tried chat yet, but the non-chat features are cool, it'll take some time to get used to navigating through it, but I really like that I am able to see the last 50 battle results (sometimes I miss it in-game bc they pass by so fast), who I played with, etc.

I note that there's a Favorite marker on some weapons (and maybe the other Gear)? This seems to be more like 'most frequent/recently used', perhaps? It'd be awesome if we could mark these ourselves, since there's a sorting option with it (assuming this feature doesn't exist already)

Re: Review: Flip Wars (Switch eShop)

DeltaPeng

Not everyone cares about online, it read more like a 7/10 with current features.

That said, I'm more interested in the game now, though I mainly plan on playing it locally. Based on price point, may get it soon or wait a bit for the other modes

Re: Feature: The NES and SNES Mini Could Live On Through Nintendo Switch

DeltaPeng

@Dang69 My opinion is valid, but thanks for being rude nonetheless.

Definition of feature per Merriam Webster, 4b:
a featured article, story, or department in a newspaper or magazine. (example) An account of the fire was the feature in the Sunday newspaper.

Hardly seems to indicate 'speculation', but sounds more synonymous to 'highlight' (can't call it a rumor, because it's not true and starting here). It's not obvious in any form that it's speculation at first glance, especially with a non-obvious photoshopped picture at the forefront.

And using the word 'could' doesn't mean much either. I could say FF7 remake 'could' make it to Switch, and post a photoshopped picture of the Switch with the FF7 remake, and it'd be 'true' (though very unlikely, since 'could' just means a possibility).

I highly consider this clickbait-y since it isn't based on developer/company news but all just the dreams / opinions /speculation of the writer. Which they can have and write about, that's fine, but I'm saying they should be more clear about it and properly categorize actual news vs opinion pieces.

Re: Review: GoNNER (Switch eShop)

DeltaPeng

$10 on Switch seems a great price for this game!

I do have a Steam account, but I don't often sit down and play the games there. I would tend to go for the cheapest price, but for the Switch magic and at this price point, I'm more than happy to try/buy this for Switch. Love that so many indies like this are coming to the Switch (albeit the difficult platformer types may not be for everyone)

Re: Editorial: The Frustrating Quest for a SNES Mini is Bad Business for Nintendo

DeltaPeng

Hmm...part of it I wonder if Nintendo has much say in how other stores handle their pre-orders.

Secondly, the article makes it sound like the end, but was Amazon the only store to open pre-orders? If so, doesn't that mean that customers have a chance with Gamestop, Toysrus, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc?

If your point is that upcoming pre-orders could be done better, I agree, but it reads as if the chance to pre-order is completely gone, which I don't think is the case. Depending on how Nintendo does it, they could always limit pre-orders and primarily make the units available in store (in which case, pre-order quantity wouldn't determine overall supply). May even be a smarter idea in ways of helping people get them as scalpers can't be in multiple places at once (whereas online they could generally pre-order multiple from every store). Conclusion, I don't think it's wise to panic just yet.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About the Super NES Classic Edition?

DeltaPeng

They have a pretty solid lineup of games on this thing (particularly surprised Super Mario RPG got in, such a great game).

At this point, I played most of these games already so I probably wouldn't play too much on it, but my nephews are coming of age and it'd be great to have them try it (and the classic controllers should hopefully be easier for them to handle)

Re: Review: Ever Oasis (3DS)

DeltaPeng

I've had my eye on this, but with so many games coming out it's on hold atm. I think my sister could be interested in this though (along with Miitopia)

Re: Nintendo Announces Super NES Classic Edition

DeltaPeng

OMG! That line up, I can't believe they got Super Mario RPG and FF6 on it....that combined with Yoshi's Island, Link to the Past, Mega Man X, Kirby's Dream Course and Super Star, Contra 3. Donkey Long Country. 2 Controllers. DAAANG! So much goodness.

Sounds like it's going to be a limited release, based on last time, it's good that they are mentioning this early.

Per the picture, not sure if that is the final product, but hopefully they'll opt to use the input plug as either the Wii connector or USB (less likely), as that can give it reusability elsewhere.

Nintendo is so spot on with everything right now, I just can't believe how well they're doing!

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Defends Nintendo's Indie Support and AM2R Policy

DeltaPeng

@ap0001 True, minus Nintendo personally helping the dev make his own game.

They already have enough on their plate, it doesn't make sense to go out of their way and use business resources for that, and it'd potentially just encourage more devs to rip off Nintendo IP (to get free gaming counsel, or just plain help dev'ing a game in general).

Re: Review: Cave Story+ (Switch)

DeltaPeng

@Jayvir Keychain was Gamestop pre-order only

The other copies get instruction booklet and mini soundtrack CD (though I forget if it's all copies of the game or the initial first packaging, someone would have to look it up)

Re: New Nikkei Report Accuses Konami Of Blacklisting Past Employees

DeltaPeng

Other than Non-Disclosure Agreements and potentially prohibitting someone from working for a direct competitor (for a couple years or so), it sounds illegal for Konami to be able to prevent their former staff from being hired elsewhere (it's one thing if other employer's don't see the experience as counting for much. It's another thing entirely to take action and prevent or make it disfavorable to hire). If it isn't illegal, it sounds like it really should be.

Re: Amazon Lists Pokémon Stars For Nintendo Switch

DeltaPeng

Does it even need to be an employee to make a listing? I think any individual can do it. I've seen duplicate listings as if someone was selling a lot of items (or in selling a single instance of an already listed item, like on ebay).

Either way it's a troll. 2030? Best not to take this as any indicator, nor create future articles off this alone (I'd trust non-amazon site listing more)

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's Big Switch and 3DS Reveals at E3 on Day One?

DeltaPeng

Still hoping for a VC and some mention of Smash Brothers on Switch...

Aside from that, was better than I expected. Tried not to expect much, trailers overall look pretty great though.

Also hoping for news of indie game release dates, but those tend to pop up randomly on the Nintendo news sites I frequent, so I guess that'll work for now. If they announce more indie info on the later days that'd be cool.

Re: Talking Point: EA and Bethesda Highlight Nintendo Switch as a Portable Powerhouse at E3

DeltaPeng

While people 'know' that the Switch isn't nor can it be as powerful as PS4 / Xbox (at least not at this time and price range), they still inwardly hope it can somehow bust out graphics on par or greater than said consoles.

The Switch's hybrid nature and sacrificing some power for pricing and portability will just have to be accepted at some point, at least for the more graphically intensive games.

On the other hand, less intensive games and indies, gain a lot of benefit from Switch portability. The only other thing may be controller comfortability could be improved (on the Switch), but that could be rectified over time if cheaper/alt pro controller type controllers come out (or backwards compat with wii/wiiU controllers)

Re: Poll: Did the ARMS Global Testpunch Land a Knockout Blow?

DeltaPeng

I think Splatoon has more value / gameplay time overall, due to some kind of separate single player experience, and a general larger variety overall (the mechanics allow for more diverse / interesting stages, and more tactics/playstyles and ways to change things up).

That said, while there are a lot of Arms and customization options, I feel like ARMS is more 'two dimensional' than Splatoon, or even than some fighting games (the characters are unique, but not as unique as traditional fighters having different movesets and hence fighting styles. While being able to interchange Arms is interesting, is also make each character less unique than if certain characters could only equip certain Arms).

That said, I feel like there's less overall gameplay value in ARMS, such that $60 is a bit over priced. A better price would probably be $40-50 range, imo. I do feel like ARMS controls very well (particularly concerning the motion controls), and is very polished for what is on offer. I do appreciate what Nintendo is doing in released new IP and changing up the genre to bring us something new, so I pre-ordered and plan to keep it in a way to support it, but as is I feel like gameplay value-wise it lacks some variation (and/or characters would feel more unique/ special if all Arms weren't interchangeable), and a lot of what you do per modes tend to feel pretty similar, as the gameplay inherently is less diverse than splatoon (as each weapon type is quite unique, and the goals can be more diverse whether it be splatting, painting area, or being squid stealthy)

Re: Video: Nintendo Treehouse Discuss Splatoon 2 Invitational With Gridiron Star Jordan Kent

DeltaPeng

@Zebetite I'm not sure if I've seen the types of games you describe, but in playing general ranked matches A- rank and above, I find that quick respawn or no, it's best to push the rainmaker, and that being afraid of being splatted tends to be a detriment. Especially in the beginning, just getting a lead puts the pressure on the other team, and / or doing that to get just a few points up from a prior record can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

The main point there is that once you've done some good splatting, if you delay too long, you give the other team a chance to respawn, recoup, and then effectively target/splat your rainmaker, where if you push hard after 2-3 splats you can usually do pretty well. I can see where a quick respawn would be quite handy then.

In general, though, Splatoon is an interesting game, in that there's a lot of advantage (to being active, covering ground, splatting foes), but hiding in the ink makes your opponents have to be much more careful (else they'll get sneak attacked, particularly useful in said Rainmaker mode, cause the main thing you need to do when on defense is splat the rainmaker, which would delay the opposing team and give you time to mount a proper defense).

As someone mentioned before, the less team members you have, the more bold the opposing team can / should be (because the less risk they have of being sneak attacked / confronted). If your team is aced (all team members down), they can charge in with no worries and it doesn't matter how much ink you have on the ground. On the other hand, as long as you have 1-2 team members active, if you have a lot of ink on the ground, they can't (reasonably) charge forward without a fairly large risk to being splatted. Again, sometimes it's still worth it to charge forward, particularly if the opposing team is unaware of their situation, etc.

But i.e. roller hiding in ink waiting for the right moment, you have a lot of power via the element of surprise in that situation, if your area is largely covered in ink as a defensive measure.

Aside from that, even with quick respawn (though I don't know the full effects of max quick respawn, it may need a bit of nerfing), I'd think in a mode like tower control, it wouldn't be game-breaking or be considered unfair with a proper defense. I.e if you have a luna/regular blaster, or suction bombs or good aim with regular splat bombs, you should be able to near insta-splat anyone super jumping to the tower. Or a roller on it circling the tower top. Once you splat enough such that they can't super jump to it, it goes back to the regular turf war fare. As long as you defend that and push forward while covering more area in your team's ink color, that should slowly restrict / prevent them from gaining ground or sneaking up on you. I'd think that (which is the goal of effective turf/rank mode battling and covering ground) should outweigh much else, assuming you can effectively do that as a team (and you aren't constantly down a squid or 2 ... or 3, with some teams you get at times >_< ;p)
