Unlikely for similar reasons of N64 mini being unlikely, it needing 4 controllers and that'd be a lot of extra periperhals for a specialty system. Would be better to make wireless Gamecube controllers which are Switch compatible and release the games on Switch (which would be a dream come true. Not super likely, but...here's hoping).
If I had to choose, here's my Gamecube list for what I'd want to appear on VC:
Kirby's Air Ride
Mario Kart Double Dash
Super Mario Strikers
Mario Tennis
Animal Crossing
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Pikmin 1 or 2
Zelda Wind Waker
Tales of Symphonia
Fire Emblem : Path of Radiance
Luigi's Mansion
Super Monkey Ball 1 or 2
Super Smash Bros Melee
X-men Next Dimensions
Bloody Roar: Primal Fury
Soul Caliber 2
Naruto Clash of Ninja 2
Phantasy Star Online with much boosted exp and rare drop rate and free online
~Mega Man Command Mission
Unlikely, but Sonic MegaMix + Sonic Gems collections.
I agree that a N64 classic would be impractical (bc of the need for 4 controllers), I'd rather have N64 wireless controllers compatible with the Switch, so it's multipurpose, then perhaps a Virtual Console of N64 games (or even a bundle of games as the 'N64 classic bundle', made available on the Switch)
If so, I'd say my list would be:
Super Mario 64 Legend of Zelda OOT Star Fox 64 Jet Force Gemini Mischief Makers Mario Tennis Mario Party 3
Mario Kart 64 Diddy Kong Racing Banjo Kazooie
Pokemon Snap Pokemon Puzzle League Pokemon Stadium Super Smash Bros Bomberman 64 Kirby 64 Quest 64 Paper Mario
~Golden Eye ~Yoshi's Story ~Donkey Kong 64 ~Clay Fighters ~Chamelon Twist ~Wonder Project J2
It'd be interesting, but not super effective since N64 and on usually needs 4 controllers. Seems like having a mini version of this, while cool, would hence be quite a bit pricier to get all the accessories (and require more manufacturing on Nintendo's side)
I'd prefer them release it on Switch and release N64-like controllers which are Switch compatible
I"m all for random stat variations in the pokemon (I forget if that's EV's or IV's), but I don't care for the other one which change some stat growth based on which pokemon you fight. Needlessly makes things complicated/limited for those who want to 'perfect' their stats on a pokemon
It's too bad pokemon abilities aren't in and held items could be cool, but the original game didn't have it, so for a recreation it makes some sense.
I personally don't like grinding levels to get pokemon to lv 100 to make them competition ready, seems a waste of time to me nowadays. I'd rather have a battle simulator or a much lower level cap as a way to be able to experiment with more varied pokemon, rather than just picking the popular/strong ones
The hand cursor idea (+ hand clapping) is super brilliant!
I could see that as being a great and fun way to interact with another player. In some ways I could see couch co-op benefitting from this as well (i.e. a parent visually showing their kid where to go, or I guess from afar if they're out of town), though I don't know if that's an option to do it locally
These controllers do have fairly limited use since it's use case is so specific
I am holding out hope that they create wireless SNES controllers similar to 8bitdo, but that they can be used in more games defaultly. I get some features like gyro or control stick requiring games won't work for controllers like these, but there's no point to not enable them to work for every game that doesn't have need of those features. Just make them all work / be recognized as Pro Controllers, and if they need the x/y/shoulder buttons or gyro, then they just won't be able to input it.
@MisterKorman For one, a person's review of a game (good or bad) is useful information, particularly for developers. The developer of the game itself and of similar types games can use feedback to know how to adjust their future games.
If only the favorable reviews appeared, it's useful info for future consumers to help ensure they end up with a product they like, and plus then if the game had weaknesses or areas that could be refined, the developer may not know about it (aka for a sequel) unless someone said something. So, feedback in general is useful.
ideally it will be explained with reasons so the developer has detailed information to work with.
Sure, a negative review may not be liked by fans, but really, no game is perfect and everything could be improved, but by pondering and voicing opinions we have a greater likelihood of the games being improved and refined the way the fans/consumers like.
@Giygas_95 I played Hollow Knight for the first time on Switch, and while it's a fun game, I agree it started to "wear thin" and start to feel like it was getting a bit too long.
I do tend to prefer quality over quantity, and while the game was still good in the end, I felt like the story/lore was not presented strongly enough. When I did get to the end, it felt kind of unsatisfying cause I didn't understand anything that happened (I later read up on it). I think per game design, it does help if games 'complete' or officially end at a sooner time, and then the other stuff can always be extra/ endgame content for those who want it. Otherwise, many feel compelled to 'at least reach the end', where if they burn out before then then it reduces some enjoyment (or some will just never reach said ending)
Tried it on Steam, the game is overhyped in my opinion, didn't end up finishing it. There certainly did seem to be some good lore/story to it, and the idea in combat is certainly unique and there's a fair amount of unique elements to dodging, but I felt the dodging was more prevalent when actually pursuing that alternate combat and seemed to get tedious over time
Cool that it's now portable for those who enjoy the game though. Switch working it's magic
The Pokemon TCG game for gameboy (and on VC of 3DS) is a great game. Great music and gameplay, and it can get pretty challenging at times. I had some fond memories of the game back in the day, collecting cards and playing with friends.
Unfortunately, the balance in pokemon tcg went out the window a long time ago imo, with the introduction of the EX basic pokemon way back when being a fair part of that. This card is only further increasing that imbalance, primarily because it's a basic pokemon, so there's no requirements to bring out this beast other than drawing it.
If you draw this and three elec energies (or cards like Energy Search which will get them for you, or cards like Professor Oak to increase your chances by a fair deal), it's game over. No way can your opponent beat something like this in time with normal non EX pokemon.
A friend of mine was just asking about exercise games for Switch, so I'll be keeping an eye on this to see if it's in the vein of what they may like.
I've actually stored up a good number (5+) of exercise/dance games on Wii that I've yet to really go through, but I'm hoping to get to them soon as I've cleared out a lot of my old games backlog. They're a fun way to relax but also grow/maintain good health irl, so if done right there's a lot of potential in gamifying good habits
Could be great if done right. I fee like Blaster Master Zero remake was a good idea, but I quit because the new version was too easy compared to the original, so if a remake is done, I hope it preserves the difficulty, better
Objection! X8 is a great game (minus I recall the end stages being particularly difficult). I'd say it's the best of the 2nd collection, with X5 and X6 being alright, albeit they feel unfairly difficult a lot of times.
X-X4 are all quite solid and would work well packaged together
@jswhitfield8 Well, all the standard amiibo have always been $13, so it's not really a price drop, it's more these new ones are for some reason charging more, which is not a smart move imo. Amiibo are popular in part for their low price point.
I'll say Ridley looks good /detailed enough at the $16 price point, the others look like standard amiibo fair though, hopefully this is not going to become the standard price. If amiibo were still a fad this strategy would be more viable, or if they re-released particular, popular amiibo at that price point people would be fine with it (aka female corrin, rosalina and luma), but amiibo popularity has gone down a lot since it's hay day.
@Alex18 Agreed, that's a good stage. Splatoon1 had superior stage design, but glad a lot of them are returning. Hope the art museum and Salt Spray Rig also make a comeback, though at this point, maybe all the stages would have returned by that point, lol
I will say I like that they are experimenting with stages in Splatfests, it's fun to try the unique stage. It'd be cool if a few of those became official (I like the ones with the clear glass that had brushes removing the ink on occasion, the 2 stage lockdown one, and in general I like they experiement with the single player stage gimmicks)
Bloblobber? Clever name. Just don't try to say it 3x fast
@Zup That's a good topic for discussion, how could we make an alternate charger? I do like when they introduce new weapons (like that new slosher) or alter them to change the style of play. They're fun to experiment with, loved it when I 'got' Blasters.
I like chargers as well, and switching from that to a Squiffer or Bamboozler actually changes up the playstyle quite a bit (the latter 2 are both close range, so you have to be more on the frontlines with it). I do like that bamboozlers shoot as fast and straight as they do (near instantaneous, which is handy for foes with low health), with the downside being it paints very thin lines
For a charger it's almost all about precision, straight line aiming though. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is using it to point at specific areas on the map, from which it could be like Ink Missiles. You target a point, and it sends a delayed signal to fire a small missile or three perhaps, if it's charged fully.
Or, wait, maybe a multidimensional portal gun, where after you target a spot, it sends a tiny Maws (maybe variable in size based on charge time) to come up from that spot and bites anyone in that spot similar to Salmon Run.
It'd be a gimmicky/assist weapon more so. I'm not sure how useful it could be in actual play though, as it'd probably be quite difficult to survive 1 on 1 encounters with it.
@Anti-Matter I can get onboard with mohawk /hair ruffled pikachu, the bangs look ridiculous though. Agree on your earlier post that I dislike games being 'dumbed down' and being made too hand holdy, and pokemon was already simple enough as is
That said, I mainly played Blue and Gold then fell off the pokemon radar, per the videogames at least. I'm tempted just cause it's Kanto rebuilt in 3D. Offhand the catching seems too simple, at minimum they should make it require some kind of effort to catch (pointing at the proper area, pokemon moving around, time limit), which it might have, from the trailers the pokeball always looked to fly to the center, but that might have just been pre-rendered video I suppose (fingers crossed that it involves some actual aiming, and not just a throwing motion).
But, since trainer battles are standard strategy battling, maybe the changed mechanic will help the game flow a lot faster (which IS needed in pokemon games to refresh them, methinks). It's something different at least. While pokemon is fun, the buildup to player v player battles in the standard pokemon is -very- time expensive, choosing a team then leveling them all to 100, essentially, which can take several hours, nothing to speak of trying to get good ev/iv/natures/stats etc.
I'd be down for another Pokemon Stadium type game, where it has fun multiplayer minigames, but is essentially a Pokemon battle simulator, choosing pre-leveled pokemon and just having at it per battling. Allows you to experiment and have much more variety without the time investment. Though I've seen some newer games improve this (some battle mode I saw made your pokemon team all be level 50, to allow you to engage in ~level/even battles with, again, less initial time commitment).
I'll probably wait for the price to dip, but I am getting more interested in the game in general, at least to check it out
Depends, in general I favor quality over quantity, though some of this can be fixed by making an intuitive and easily navigate-able storefront
The good thing about competition and more titles means more people will put up sales to compete, which is always good for consumers
That said, I like Steam prices but it is a mess trying to find 'good' and quality games I enjoy on that platform. So hopefully Nintendo finds a good way to filter or help consumers filter to get to the quality/relevant stuff based on player preferences. The other part is up to consumers to be informed and to be able to pick out good games for themselves/children
@DannyBoi I've been playing Splatoon since the original on WiiU, so to me at least the main game felt like a glorified tutorial, but it is more fleshed out then the original game for sure. You can likely read reviews on the game to get a better feel for what newcomers to the series thought of it, length-wise it's probably ~5 - 10hours? It's primarily a multiplayer online game, the meat is in the multiplayer Turf War plus ranked matches, and Salmon Run is a lot of fun as well. If you enjoy that, you could definitely sink a lot of time into it, I'm probably 200+ hours in.
But for single player, offline, it's not going to be lengthy venture. If that's your goal, I'd recommend focusing more on games like Zelda Breath of the Wild or indie games like Hollow Knight.
Different people care more about online backups than others, I personally don't really care all that much. Unless there's a game breaking or system bricking bug, I don't anticipate losing my data, and once I've played a game through I usually don't need to go back to it.
It is tougher since all the Save data is on the system, so that can lead to problems. For now, none of my games really need it though. Maybe later if an Animal Crossing game comes out, then I'd be more concerned about losing long time progress
@DannyBoi For Splatoon, the main purpose I'd say is the multiplayer mode. The main game is kind of like a glorified tutorial for the mechanics, and the real fun is finding better ways to paint the ground and splat others more efficiently, using a variety of weapon types
The save file (backup) in particular isn't really that important for a game like this. It's more about building skills.
Sure, you might lose your Level # and Rank in multiplayer if you lost your save, as well as some good gear and access to weapons, but if you get into Splatoon and aren't super picky with weapon choice, the weapons unlock quickly enough. I guess it depends if you care or like bragging about how high your level or rank is, but imo it's all about building your own personal technical squid?/kid? skills rather than that
Battletoads (particularly the original NES one) was a great game, as others mentioned they had some good / varied gameplay ideas. The controls were tight for the most part, the game is very hard, at times overly difficult (lv 3 race track, snake pit, etc) but that's part of it's charm, similar to those who like Dark Souls.
Classic games were great cause they did not hold your hand, but forced you to git gud. Many games these days are too easy or take way too long to ramp up the difficulty. The ideal is likely in between somewhere, but I enjoy the challenge and games tailored to the long time gamers, and hope it one day releases on Switch as VC or whatever Ninty wants to call it
It's a sign the Fortnite will soon be breaking the 4th wall and entering reality. Better buy home insurance before they dive in from the sky and start harvesting your walls for materials!
@Equinox I don't particularly think finding a match in Splatoon2 would be hard for awhile, with it's popularity and the general low cost of Nintendo online per year. Plus, I don't think it's region locked? At least I (in NA) run into players from Japan all the time
I tried the demo, it seems like an interesting multitasking/passive game
The first boss of the demo though, is that the real first boss? It's waaaay OP, being three bosses with one having a ridiculous heal spell. You probably can't beat it in the demo version since the level is capped at lv6, but outside of that, it does seem like that part of it feels unpolished to be that OP (or the devs wanted you to grind a lot, and I'm not a fan of excessive grinding). I plan to try to pick it up on a sale, but the stat unbalance / grinding causes it to lose some appeal
And I'm glad they're putting up more official music on digital stores, it's about time! Nintendo classics music is fantastic, and I'm surprised they haven't capitalized more on it until more recent years (similar to the long wait for Mega Man music to be released at an affordable price, digitally). Similar to amiibo and Nintendo bringing their IP to a quality toy form, but I'm glad amiibo's success has encouraged them to release more official Nintendo toys/apparel/merch
@abe_hikura Even better, activating the Waluigi assist trophy should make Waluigi attack the player who activated him ;p
For fans who complain, I say Daisy has been around longer and is more relevant than Waluigi. I will say Waluigi > King K Rool, though. On the other hand, it probably wouldn't be too too difficult to make Waluigi an echo character of Wario, but eh Wario is kind of just ok per movesets, so idk. If they introduce Waluigi, they should certainly troll him on his intro video.
I guess people could always play a Samus v Ridley round with Items- only = Mega Mushroom, and only allow Ridley to pick it up. Could make for a fun battle
I thought the presentation was pretty good, though I love the details on Smash (Young Link returning! Daisy! Inklings and more) so that being a large portion of it I was fine with. Though I can see people wanting more variety.
I'm glad to see Overcooked 2 confirmed, and releasing soon. I was surprised more by how much good stuff is releasing soon or out today, like Fortnite, Hollow Knight, and the Splatoon 2 DLC. I'm actually quite curious about Fortnite, but never bothered getting it on PC, so I'm looking forward to getting that set up.
I agree that it was weird that Dragon Ball Fighter Z didn't get more screen time, though I'm sure fans are happy with it now being confirmed
@Silly_G I started with DOA2 on Playstation 2, and tried dimensions, and have DOA5 on a used PS3 I bought on the cheap.
I love the characters' personalities / little story bits, and how the costumes generally add to their personalities. The DLC cost per costume is overly expensive in my opinion, that is kind of a stickler point for me.
Anyway, I agree the game is great per fighting mechanics, as a casual fighting gamer, I like it many times better than SF and Tekken. Smash is best as an overall game, then Soul Caliber (and some minor titles like X-Men Dimensions, Bloody Roar, ~Virtual Fighter) are comparably fun.
It is highly sexualized, which I'm good with some sexy, but they can tend to go overboard with it. Makes me hesitant to eagerly recommend or play the game without generally being aware of who may spectate it, so that makes the game more niche (if I could filter which costumes (and maybe even chars) are accessible, which could appear either completely and per random costume selection, that'd probably help) In general it'd help to not have to wade through costumes I'd never use in saving time in the char selection screen).
But yeah, case in point, I tried telling a friend I thought the DOA mechanics were actually good in terms of fighting games, and he was essentially all like 'oh yeah, sure, the mechanics are what you're playing it for <eye roll>'. It's kind of the reputation the game has though. Anyway, it would be neat if it came on the Switch.
I'm actually curious whether Linkle is 'owned' by Nintendo or if it's owned by Koei Tecmo (that would effect a lot whether she's seen in any future games)

Re: Last Year's N64 Trademark Has Finally Been Approved, N64 Mini On The Way?
It'd be interesting, but not super effective since N64 and on usually needs 4 controllers. Seems like having a mini version of this, while cool, would hence be quite a bit pricier to get all the accessories (and require more manufacturing on Nintendo's side)

I'll probably wait for the price to dip, but I am getting more interested in the game in general, at least to check it out
Re: Review: 20XX (Switch eShop)
Nice! I saw this on Steam and was looking to get it, but now I can get it on Switch instead which I definitely prefer!
Re: Nintendo Wants To Release 20-30 Indie Games Every Week On Switch
Depends, in general I favor quality over quantity, though some of this can be fixed by making an intuitive and easily navigate-able storefront
The good thing about competition and more titles means more people will put up sales to compete, which is always good for consumers
That said, I like Steam prices but it is a mess trying to find 'good' and quality games I enjoy on that platform. So hopefully Nintendo finds a good way to filter or help consumers filter to get to the quality/relevant stuff based on player preferences. The other part is up to consumers to be informed and to be able to pick out good games for themselves/children
Re: Splatoon 2 Pearl And Marina amiibo Will Provide Special Gear And Photo Opportunities
Re: Prepare Your Wallets As All 151 Original Pokémon Are Getting Brand New Plush Toys
They're looking good so far, so I'm glad the quality looks to be there.
Similar to amiibo, I wouldn't try to collect them all though, maybe just some fan favs if they ever make their way to the west
Re: Slime-San’s Big New Expansion Is Now Live On Switch
Awesome!
Re: Splatoon 2 Pearl And Marina amiibo Will Provide Special Gear And Photo Opportunities
I guess it depends if you care or like bragging about how high your level or rank is, but imo it's all about building your own personal technical squid?/kid? skills rather than that
Re: Super Battletoads Is A Cancelled Game Boy Game That Was 100% Finished And Ready To Go
Battletoads (particularly the original NES one) was a great game, as others mentioned they had some good / varied gameplay ideas.
The ideal is likely in between somewhere, but I enjoy the challenge and games tailored to the long time gamers, and hope it one day releases on Switch as VC or whatever Ninty wants to call it
Re: Random: Fortnite Burger Sign Disappears From Map, Winds Up In Real-Life Desert
It's a sign the Fortnite will soon be breaking the 4th wall and entering reality. Better buy home insurance before they dive in from the sky and start harvesting your walls for materials!

Re: New Nintendo Switch Bundle Includes 90 Day Free Trial Of Switch Online Service
@Equinox I don't particularly think finding a match in Splatoon2 would be hard for awhile, with it's popularity and the general low cost of Nintendo online per year. Plus, I don't think it's region locked? At least I (in NA) run into players from Japan all the time
Re: Review: Wanderjahr TryAgainOrWalkAway (Switch eShop)
I tried the demo, it seems like an interesting multitasking/passive game
The first boss of the demo though, is that the real first boss? It's waaaay OP, being three bosses with one having a ridiculous heal spell. You probably can't beat it in the demo version since the level is capped at lv6, but outside of that, it does seem like that part of it feels unpolished to be that OP (or the devs wanted you to grind a lot, and I'm not a fan of excessive grinding). I plan to try to pick it up on a sale, but the stat unbalance / grinding causes it to lose some appeal
Re: Switch May Be Getting An Exclusive Monster Hunter Game As Well As Generations Ultimate
Didn't see any mention of exclusive in the actual reference quotes, anywhere
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate May Have Been Teased Years Ago In Smash For Wii U
The hype from seeing the trailer spoiler-free was pretty great. "EVERYONE IS HERE" gave me a nice goosebumpy feeling
Re: Three Kirby Soundtracks Are Now Available For Streaming
But is it on Amazon..?
Sweet, it is!
Re: Super Smash Bros. Fans Are Harassing Masahiro Sakurai Over Waluigi Snub
Re: One Guy Got Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Up And Running On Switch
Nice, hope that guy gets some recognition for his extra work, creating the port certainly opens up more sales potential
Re: Panic Button "Very In Demand" After Successful Switch Ports, Working On Several Projects
Good for them. It sounds like a deserved reward/return for their hard work.
Re: Ridley Is Finally In Super Smash Bros. And It's Getting An Amazing amiibo Figure
I guess people could always play a Samus v Ridley round with Items- only = Mega Mushroom, and only allow Ridley to pick it up. Could make for a fun battle

@andyg1412 They were just waiting to find a good title for the game...and now you've provided it!

Re: Video: Here's How Dragon Ball FighterZ Looks On Nintendo Switch
Sounds like they did an awesome port and optimization job, kudos to them!
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 2018 Went Big On Smash Bros. But Left Us Wanting More
I thought the presentation was pretty good, though I love the details on Smash (Young Link returning!
Re: Dead Or Alive 6 Might Come To Switch If Technical Hurdles Are Overcome

Re: This Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Linkle Mod Isn't Official, But It Really Should Be
I'm actually curious whether Linkle is 'owned' by Nintendo or if it's owned by Koei Tecmo (that would effect a lot whether she's seen in any future games)
