Splatoon 2 has only been in the hands of consumers for one week, yet Nintendo has already been busy with new content and an update that made some balancing adjustments. After previously releasing the Ink brush to players' catalogues, the Japanese Splatoon Twitter account tweeted out images confirming that the "Dualie Squelchers" will be appearing in the game starting from tomorrow.
The "Dual Squelcher" originally appeared in the first Splatoon for Wii U, however this time round they have been rebranded the "Dualie Squelchers" to fit in with the new style. The weapons will be equipped with the Point Sensor for a sub weapon and Tenta Missiles as the special.
The free update is expected to drop at 11am Tokyo time on 29th July; for folks outside of Japan the item will therefore be made available in North America today at 7pm Pacific / 10pm Eastern, while it's the early hours of 29th June (3am UK / 4am CET) in Europe.
You can check out the new weapon out in the GIF tweet posted by Nintendo:
What do you think to the new weapon? Will it become your main choice?

I will be splatted many times by this one....
I'm going to stick with the Roller
This is gonna be fun. I can't wait. Double fire with better range? Perfect for a close range fighter like me!
@DaLoneSheep Difficult to go back once you're rolling!
Now you're speaking my language, The Original Squelcher was my Anti Sniper weapon for ranked in the first Game. Add Duelie Splash-o-matic Nintendo, and I'll play this game forever.
Oh man, these look so cool! I hope they have decent range.
This new weapon looks like the weapon I use except this is a dualies weapon!
I'll definitively use that weapon once it's out.
@KoopaTheGamer The speciality of this weapon is its range. (Saw this on the French Nintento Twitter account.)
Yes! I'll definitely be using this when it comes out!
Ooh, interesting! Can't wait to try it!
And while we're on the subject of dual weapons, can we get a Dual Slosher?
Hopefully they don't kill too fast.
Looks pretty nice! It's great to have what appear to be weekly updates. Hopefully they can add some new or old stages next. Arrowana Mall, anyone?
My interest is piqued. I was a roller user in the original, but I find myself using the dualies the most in this game.
I wonder how many of the old maps will make a return? Urchin Underpass I'd say is a guarantee seeing as it's in MK8D.Flounder Heights was probably my favourite map so I hope to see that make a return.12 new maps and 8 old maps would be a nice total.
I am new to Splatoon and I love the variety of this game... all the clothes, all the abilities, all the weapons and subs/specials. You can basically play any way you like. I would love new maps as well!
PS: what do you use this point sensor for? I don't see myself using this in any situation?
Whilst these continuous updates are a great way of keeping things fresh, it does tap into my concerns regarding the future conservation of games as it sounds just pike its predecessor, the Splatoon 2 cartridge will have only a limited amount of the data.
Of course if the day comes when you can no longer update the game its likely you won't be able to play online multiplayer either.
Omgggg!
@silentium
Welcome to the Splatoon family! Don't worry new maps will be added over time. That's what happened in the first game. As for the Point Sensors, when you throw one, anyone within the range of it will then be tracked for a few seconds. Sure, it isn't as exciting as throwing a bomb, but allowing you and your teammates to track opponents is a huge advantage. You can see them when they hide in the ink, and can even see them if they hide behind a wall.
I'm still having the most success with the N-Zap 85. But I'm always looking forward to more weapons being added.
I always liked the Squelchers in the first game. I thought they had a nice balance of range and speed that was perfect for certain maps. The Squelchers don't have the greatest range or speed by any means but the combo of it's attributes make it very versatile.
Do the "unlockables" have level requirements? I just picked a Switch up on Wednesday night so I'm at a low level at the moment. I can't remember how this worked on the Wii U.
I'm decent with the duelies. I like the duelies.
By in a game with rollers and brushes, and the awesome squid movement mechanic... I like close range...
Can't wait for the new stages!! Also open Salmon Run Grizco!!!
I am so looking forward to this update—wait! I don't have a Switch! I've been trying to buy one for months, but Nintendo can't keep up with the demand and cannot do pre-orders because...they are Nintendo. Imagine what the sales numbers for Splatoon 2 would be if they released this on the WiiU...
I'm so Excited I'm going to die!!
@masterLEON
...or Dualie Rollers... imagine what that would look like in practice. And the ground you could cover with double the width... lol
@masterLEON When I imagine dual sloshers, I could see inklings getting to throw out on two 45 degree angles instead of straight ahead and destroying everything once players get the hang of the angles.
Just let me have my brella!
This is actually not the same weapon as the "dual squelcher."
@dkxcalibur no weapons are available from the start except the splattershot jr. You willl unlock more weapons as you level up.
So they took one of my personal favorite weapons, the Dual Squelchers, and then took my all-time favorite weapon, the Dualies, and then put the two together? Man you all are about to get rekt
DQs were fun in S1, but ultimately were outclassed by everything else, either by the Jet for range, or the faster shooters that had only a little less range. Hopefully they'll get a likable buff this time to make them stand out.
I've finally gotten used to the Dualies. I'm not great with them, but getting to be above-decent. I'm definitely going to experiment with these!
@Kirbyfan I understand this but does this also apply to the "unlockables" as well? If so, what level are the unlockables available?
@FX102A Someone will have rom patches for these in the far future - but yeah I feel ya and am always like "I wish these updates saved to the actual cartridges now."
@chriiiiiiiiiis Like a cross or a V? I'd like it if the flight paths cross a bit after half of its range. It'd seem like the natural trajectory.
Looks cool , nice to see more weapons incoming.
I'd love to see a pair of paint sponge shoes that paint as you run and kick as an attack....roadhouse
Nice! Surprisingly, the splat dualies and the basic starter gun are my favorites. Love giving everyone ink armor as often as possible
@OorWullie I'd gladly take a Museum d'Alfonsino re-release. That was a great, tight map. My favorite from the first game.
Can we have dualie rollers?
Definitely giving these a try as I'm trying to master all dualies. Hope they release a dualie splash-o-matic, because that was my fav weapon in splatoon 1.
It's interesting that in that gif they still show the old gun but in the new game. So they might end up adding the original version later on as well since it's already working in the game.
Haven't seen any footage, but this is quite an interesting choice, since dualies are known for short range and rapid fire, but the squelcher is more a slow firing, semi-rapid long range gun.
If it's both high range and rate of fire, the damage would have to be fairly low to not make it OP
Yay, Dual Squelcher!
Yay, Point Sensors (although I would've preffered Burst or Splat Bombs).
Oh no, Tenta Missiles? not again.
The Jet Squelcher already has this (rather useless) special, so I was hoping for literally anything else (except the Stingray, of course)...
@shani Tenta missiles is useful in the right mode, it's great in tower control for instance
Easily my favorite weapon so far. Might not buy any for a while now
Well I'm disappointed. Dual Squelcher was my favorite weapon in the first game, but after giving this a brief test, I'd consider this both a nerf and buff. First of all, you no longer have both shots concentrated on the same point like last game unless you roll (hurting your ink supply, which is already iffy with dual/dualie squelchers). This may be a non-issue with regular dualies because of close-range, but for the squelcher it means the long-distance is much less effective.
Also, I miss echolocator, but point sensor will somewhat make up for that. Hopefully at some point they'll release the old version to give people an option
I can't wait until i finally get the chance to play this game! It's really nice to see that Nintendo supports the 2nd game just as much as the original.... Even though I will never really use this weapon, I'm a Roller user.
They certainly look cool, but I feel like they could use a small buff. The added range doesn't really help much when they cover so little, I find myself missing huge blotches of turf whenever I use them.
@FX102A all updates are stored on the Switch, not the cartridge. So it will never be a problem, as these updates are so small. It was never a problem on the WiiU either.
@Jeronan Its more for the years in the future when the Switch is deemed retro. If the data is no longer available from the servers and the Switch can only be acquired second hand and has had its internal memory wiped before sale, then that data is gone.
@FX102A LOL! Are you serious?
This has been and always willl be a problem with online games.
The moment the publisher shuts down the servers, that's it!
And it's not just on consoles. It's the same problem on PC. Any platform really.
@Jeronan If it was for multiplayer only then yes, thats entirely understandable and one of the realities of online play. But this sort of thing is becoming prevalent in singleplayer too and much sooner after launch.
This case may be exclusive to multiplayer but is representative of a wider concern.
@DM666 go back to what?
@dkxcalibur not sure I understand your question.
