Just in case it had slipped your mind over the last week or so, we thought it best to remind you that you can now get stuck into six new (well, old but new) games on your Nintendo Switch.
Today sees the release of Star Fox 2, Super Punch-Out!!, Kirby Super Star, Breath of Fire II, Journey To Silius, and Crystalis. If you missed our announcement post, here's a little bit of info on each one:
SNES Games
Star Fox 2 – This 3D rail-shooter and second installment of the Star Fox series was first designed for Super NES, but went unreleased until it appeared on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system in 2017. This time, Emperor Andross is on a crusade to conquer the Lylat system and the Star Fox team itself. After a long wait, Star Fox is back in action.
Super Punch-Out!! – Featuring the tight gameplay and humor the series is known for, this sequel to the NES classic sees Little Mac return to the ring with the World Video Boxing Association belt once again at stake.
Kirby Super Star – That awful King Dedede is at it again – he’s stolen all the food in Dream Land. It’s up to Kirby to get it back and ultimately save Popstar from being taken over. There’s never a dull moment as Kirby dashes, flies and fights!
Breath of Fire II – Set 500 years after the original, take on the role of Ryu, the last member of the Dragon Clan. A cast of unusual and exciting companions join you in your adventures across a wondrous land full of magic and mystery.
NES Games
Crystalis – An epic story for action-RPG fans is ready to unfold. Set in a world where civilization lies in ruins, the young protagonist awakes from cryogenic sleep and the adventure begins. Collect the Sword of Wind and venture into the unknown.
Journey to Silius – Join Jay on his run-and-gun mission to take down the mechanical army responsible for his father’s death. Defeat endless waves of attack robots and fulfill his father’s dream of developing a space colony in the Silius Solar System.
Will you be getting stuck into these retro delights today? Which ones are jumping out at you? Let us know with a comment.

Will try Star Fox 2, never played that one (not surprising, seeing as it was previously only available on the SNES Mini).
I'm still struggling to find time to get through the 20 I got recently, I spent a lot of time on Super Ghouls n Ghosts on Sunday, laughing every time I died. I used to be good at it and I struggled to get to the end of the second level!
Majorly disappointing after 3 months without new classic games.
Does anyone know if Crystalis is any good? Never heard of it before but I do enjoy an old school RPG.
Breath of Fire 2 is by far the best out of these games. So yeah, I'm hyped.
They're available now! Don't skip out on Journey to Silius either. No exaggeration, it has the best music ever in an NES game. It is a wonder to behold. The game is hard as hell though.
Nothing of interest for me, but a lot of games I want are likely never to be added.
So does this mean they stopped doing the SP versions as well? Not gonna lie I was low key a bit excited to see what they'd do with some of the SNES games there. Would have made the lengthy wait between releases a little bit better too. Oh well. Hoping they'll pick up the pace a little from here on out.
Next update: April!
So I technically now own all 4 first breath of fires...haven't finished a single of them despite being excellent RPGs
Not interested in any of them. I'll be surprised if I log into play either the SNES or NES ever again. It's lost all of its appeal to me.
@MaxlRoseGNR I still miss the Virtual Console
remember on the day the Wii came out it had NES, SNES, N64, Genesis and PC engine right from the start and only grew over time with more systems
I mean it's great NES and SNES games are online now but it would be nice to have a buy option and more systems on offer
some of the N64 classics like Mario Kart 64 or any of the classic Mario Party games online would be amazing
Excited to have Super PO and Kirby on the go. Already played SF2 on my mini. Keen to check out Crystalis too. Heard good stuff.
Super Punch Out!! Finally. Not sure how they left that off the initial launch of SNES games.
Honestly all those games are fantastic additions. So to me the wait was worth it but I can understand so little was added for others that this is disappointing.
I'll definitely be playing Breath of Fire II again. And here's hoping for a switch port of the PSP release of Breath of Fire III!
Super Punch Out is good. Rest is meh.
I'd rather see N64 games to be honest.
I'm not overly bothered about the new games. I booted up the apps to have a quick look, and while I was in I had a blast on Super Mario Kart. Still great!
Wait, now? As in, now now?
Since day one I still maintain...i wish we had a purchase option! 🙁
I’d love N64 Sin & Punishment
Ahh, I want Donkey Kong Country trilogy!
Awesome that Fay and Miyu are canon now, in a way.
@spirit_flame I'd recommend Kirby Super Star if you haven't played it before. Still one of the best Kirby games to this day, imo.
@ViewtifulJotun game boy color is better
Wish I had my SNES controller to play it on
@ViewtifulJotun It's supposed to be great. I'm excited to try it (especially after I'd given up on it appearing on this service when it appeared in the SNK collection), along with Star Fox 2.
@AlexSora89
Yup now now
The Snes app has an update and 4 "new" games.
Super Star should have been on at the start in favor of Dream Land 3, but better late than never, I guess!
I couldn't care less.
Super Punch-Out
On SNES I will have a look at breath of fire (but I tried the first one and unskipable dialogue turned me off completely. Let's hope it works a not the same on the sequel).
in general I do not enjoy 8bit games (visually and gameplay wise are too damm jarring) but I will try cristalys....
JOURNEY TO SILIUS?!? Fantastic add!! I did NOT see that coming. (If you've never played it, try it, and CRANK up the volume for 8-bit chiptune glorious-ness)
Fun fact: Journey to Silius started as a Terminator game. IIRC they lost the license, so reskinned it a bit. You can still totally see the connection, though. Unfortunately it's a bit bland.
Any excuse to replay Kirby Superstar! (Even though Ultra's controls, timings, and hit/hurtboxes are tighter.)
Anyone else feel kinda dumb for getting the SNES mini, seeming how most of the games (including the one exclusive) are on the switch now?
@Stu13 Agreed. Kirby Super Star is THE KIRBY GAME from the SNES. The title is a huge influence on the modern titles introducing powers with movesets, guard, and co-op and taking up the action platforming direction of the games. It's also a Smash Brothers influence and fans of smash should go back and play it to see. It's neat.
Also it's just so fun. I can play that game over and over again messing around with powers and how I want to attack enemies and bosses with the moves.
@KingBowser86 People often time talk about Kirby Super Star Ultra being better but I dunno. I feel like it was made easier in some aspects. Enemies are less aggressive imo or more spaced. Also when trying to do fast boss kills, stars are way easier to catch in grab attacks. Pulling off grab attacks for massive damage is the best strategy but in original KSS you had to really time it. In KSSU they just sit there for several more seconds.
I mean it's FINE and it does include more content and True Arena to kind of make up for it even if that TA is quite easy by today's True Arena's standards but ya. I think I'm partial to the original tbh.
Both are good though.
@Kirby_Girl Yes, KSS influenced the Kirby franchise. It added the Halberd for Meta Knight and introduced the world to Marx.
@rushiosan “guys look at me I’m so cool and angsty especially with my cool memey pikachu icon”
Why are you here then? 😂
I still wish Switch had a Virtual Console so you could buy the games you want and play them without a membership.
Finished Star fox 2 today. It was way 2 easy after managing my time and learning the controls.
@ViewtifulJotun
I've always loved it. Great game if you like retro games (which I'm assuming you do since you are curious about it). Decent graphics for the NES at the time. It's similar to an old-school Zelda game. Cool story and setting. I'm excited to try it again, it's been probably 20-25 years since I played it last.
@DrDaisy Yeah that's never going to happen because Doug Bowser even said that they want to improve online services bwwwahhhhaaaaaa what a load of crock!!!
@Darknilious nope because their is always Hackchi 🤣
I played Starfox 2 on the SNES Mini/Classic and it honestly gave me such a bad headache. But maybe that's because the controller cable is so short on that system that I had to sit too close to the television. Maybe it'll be better using the Switch & wireless controls. Also super pumped about trying Crystalis. I've wanted to play that game for a long time. Never tried the NES original or the GBC remake. Was going to buy the SNK Anniversary Collection on Switch to play the game but now I don't have to! I've heard Crystalis is a great game and the NES version is actually better than the GBC remake.
I do wish that Nintendo would hurry up and release more SNES wireless controllers on the My Nintendo website. I feel like (in Canada at least) they were available for 2 seconds and sold out for the last 4 months....soon to be 5 months since the site just says check in January for the possibility of more, it's not even confirmed that's when they're getting restocked.
I no longer have an excuse to not play Crystalis. This'll make a friend of mine happy. XD
@Dr_Corndog cool, I'll definitely give it a try.
@rdrunner1178 great, thanks for the helpful input. Just digging King of Cards at the moment but will def give this a go too.
All four are great game, Breath of Fire II being one of the greatest entry in the series and connect both BOF1 to BOF3 & 4 wonderfully, Super Punch-Out!! is a great home port of the arcade game, Kirby Superstar is a classic made by the legends that is Masahiro Sakurai which contain not only the inspiration for All-Stars Mode which would later made it to Super Smash Bros. but also include a remake of the first Kirby's Dream Land, the introduction of the Great Cave Offensive, the well-done mini story that let you clash with Meta Knight and his goons within the Halbald and the story of DynaBlade. Star Fox 2 is also an excellent precursor to Star Fox 64 and a great game to try for those who didn't had a chance to score a Super NES Classic Edition.
I'm loving this update. Never tried Kirby Superstar before, nor Starfox 2 despite having it on my SNES Classic. Kirby is captivating and Starfox 2 has some great graphics. Super Punch Out!! was what caught my interest initially, but now I'm trying 'new' SNES games
Now if only I could actually order the NSO’s SNES controller to play these properly.......
Kirby Super Star is still a pretty great co-op game. Ahead of its time in that respect.
@tobsesta99 Why you wasted time replying to my comment remains a mystery.
In need for attention, perhaps? Here’s your reply. Don’t spend it all in one place.
@estaate patience donkey kongson
All 6 games are awesome games. I was waiting for them all to come to switch. I will say start fox 2 was a surprise though
I'll finally get to play SF2. I even re-ran SF1 just for old times sake. Crystalis is a must play if you like games such as Secret of Mana or Zelda. Journey to Silius is worth a play, and like someone said, crank up your volume. It's a short but sweet run and gun surprise worth your time. Since this service seems to want to dip into the really obscure games then I have hope for a few games below:
Shatterhand
Powerblade 1 and 2
Secret of Evermore
@Balta666 I mean, did any RPG back then have skipable dialog? I don't recall it being a probelm in breath of fire though since you could go through it pretty fast if message speed was fast and you button mashed.
@MysticalOS I did not play any RPG at the time and when I say unskipable I mean not even be able to button mash it. You just need to wait for the text to scroll the whole way
@Balta666 check game options for message text speed. most rpgs back then had an option to change it. i think by default message speed was slow but I recall being able to set it to fast and it not being a problem.
