When Obsidian Entertainment launched its anticipated action RPG The Outer Worlds last month, there was no sign of the Switch release.
Not long after this, a press release from the game's publisher Private Division revealed the hybrid version would be arriving at some point in 2020, leading to the belief the game would launch on Nintendo's platform before the end of Take-Two's fiscal year (Private Division's parent company).
Take-Two's latest update to investors has now revealed The Outer Worlds will launch on the Switch "some time" within the first three months of 2020. So that's before the end of March, as originally suggested.
Our colleagues over at Push Square gave The Outer Worlds nine out of ten stars and said it was a "role-playing triumph" thanks to its brilliantly crafted sci-fi adventure, witty writing, great characters, solid combat and rewarding exploration.

Cool. I’ve played enough on Xbox to get the gist of it. I’ll be getting this day one.
I'm glad I held off buying it for PC or Xbox One
Glad to see it's not too far off. Lets me knock out some of the backlog before then.
Honestly I’m cool with them taking their time. Just make it good.
@ballistic90 I got it on PC as part of the Microsoft gamepass for PC. It was just $5 a month and you get a ton of stuff.
Idk if I will have time for this between destiny 2, Witcher 3 on switch and Pokémon. Also I have a job and a life outside of gaming! How am I supposed to keep up?
FF7R
Animal Crossing
now this
March is looking busier and busier.
Well I'm fine with that release date, I have plenty of new stuff to play while I'm waiting. I just hope they do a good job with the Switch version.
@Kalmaro yeah, but portability is important to me.
@ballistic90 Same. I'm playing on a cloud based PC so I can play ALMOST anywhere but you need internet for that. Can't compare to an actual switch version though.
Have it on Xbox, will definitely buy on the Switch.
@Kalmaro We're not here to talk about Xbox
@mrmememan Why not? As a seasoned gamer, I say we should respect and appreciate our friends from other platforms. Of course, without losing the plot of this being a Nintendo-centric website.
This gives me a goal to work towards - I think I can clear my backlog by then!
I will be buying this day one- looks awesome!
This will have to do since we can't get a Fallout 3, New Vegas, or 4 on the Switch🤨
I'm totally down for this.
But March is Animal Crossing time. Everything else takes a back seat when that happens. Once AC is out I fully imagine it will remain in my console for months.
So happy with the third party support on Switch. Definitely getting this.
@mrmememan Feel free not to join in then, I guess.
Playing it on PC Game Pass for $5... Good game. Did start a bit slow.
Playing it on my commute not worth an extra $55 and 5 month wait. Can play something else on the GO.
And I will be waiting for its release!
With originally not knowing ‘WHEN’ I jumped ahead and got it on PS4. Loving it but so hard to sit down and enjoy games locked to a TV. I think I’ll double dip on Switch. It will be a great handhold game to do short spurts in. Ton of talking and dialogue that suits the Switch too. I maxed my character on dialogue and other clever perks so I’ve avoided about 90% of confrontations.
I can't wait to play this game. Outer Worlds looks great.
I got it on PS4, because it's got pretty decent PS4pro support. But it wouldn't be the first time I bought a game for Switch even though I own it already. If it's a fantastic game, I don't mind buying it again, just to get it as a portable title. I know I'll be getting the Witcher too
March will be expensive now.
Actually just beat the game a couple hours ago on PS4. While I have and had no plans to get it for Switch as the wait was too long for me, I definitely recommend it to those who are waiting for the Switch release. It's really a phenomenal game. Obsidian did a fantastic job with it. Already looking forward to my next build/playthrough. Got some backlog to take care of and some time to sink into the new CTR GP first.
I play the PS4 version and really enjoying it but will still get the Switch version for portable play. Now I'm crossing my finger that this get a physical release on Switch cause the PS4 version I got was digitally only.
Great game - will be amazing on the switch.
One of the best RPGs I have ever played.
If it's released before AC I may get it. If it's released after AC then I shall not. BoTW 2 could release the week after AC and I wouldn't be playing it on release.
I have yet saw walkthroughs of the game but isn't it more action oriented than Fallout? By that I mean Fallout had some extremely creepy/horror vibes that deliver amazing atmosphere.
From the trailer and short gameplay videos I don't see any of that?
It is colourful and cheery.
Anyone who played it could give some info on the matter?
Also I will 100% buy it on the Switch if they give it a proper physical release!
There are sooooo many good games coming out lately, that is ok for us to wait a little bit haha. I hope it comes by February, it feels a bit empty so far.
I am waiting for Steam release. And possibly a sale.
@Trvial playing thr Outer Worlds on xbox at the minute and quite simply I'm going to finish it then hit the pre-order for switch it's that good.
It's also the thing I like about having multiple consoles
Even sooner than expected. My brother said I should try it on Gamepass but, nah. Rather play it where I prefer.
This will be perfect for after The Witcher 3. Love having meaty games I can get lost in and play everywhere. I'll be playing this at work every day for sure.
It'll end up being like £20 on PS4 by then and that £50 Switch asking price might just be too much for me
I could have played this through game pass but I'm purposely waiting to buy and play the Switch version, at least first.
The PS and xbox versions can wait a few years.
This game looks sick!!!
Does it have multiplayer or Coop?
Buy even without it is a must have for me
@Richnj I played it on Xbox one x in 4K - it runs very well but ultimately the gfx are average at best and as such I don’t think the switch port will take that big a hit.
It’s going to be amazing on switch - the style of the game I think is perfect for the console. Yes there is action, guns etc - but a lot of the time it is a role playing game in the truest sense - talking, influencing, making decisions etc.
Some of the decisions are quite thought provoking as well - the first big one I procrastinated for about a day balancing up what I thought was the best way forward - it’s that well done
I was not sure on getting it, since I am not a fallout fan, but if it comes to switch and is a decent port, I will give it a try.
If the port is solid, I get it on Switch. If not, then I play it from Game Pass on Xbox.
Definitely gonna grab this physical. I still play new Vegas on PS3 with my lady every so often , we'll play until it inevitably freezes on us then turn it off . I also only use energy weapons and wear a space helmet ...so yea I already pretend it's the outer world's lol
Sooner than I'd hoped actually. Sounds right up my alley.
Much sooner than I anticipated, but I felt March 2020 would be the time they’d release it. I’ll buy this on day one, it’ll give some time with the Xbox version in the interim.
@PuppyToucher
Destiny 2 play at home during free time.
Witcher and pokemon play at work.
Way earlier than i thought, maybe I should wait for the Switch version afterall.
I'm ok with waiting, definitely want this game on Switch.
Not a drop of gameplay, yet, though. Perhaps some in the next Direct?
Will be buying it.
Hopefully the port will work wonderfully. here is a review of the game <a href=https://theanxiousgamer.blog/2019/11/11/quirkiness-meets-fun-to-offer-a-meaningful-experience-in-the-outer-world/">The Outer Worlds</a>
