Re: Nintendo's Norwegian Site Triggers Speculation That Bayonetta 3 And Metroid Prime 4 Could Launch This Year

ClockworkMario

Nothing to see here. It seems Nintendo's Finnish branch has the same text as the Swedish one, and the Norwegian version is identical as well except for the sentence that discusses Switch's future. That one is completely missing on the Norwegian version atm. I'd wager things have gone down something like this:

>Bergsala distributes a press release celebrating year 2017 to all of its Nordic branches
>These translate the text for their domestic markets.
>For some reason the Norwegian one goes rogue on its
translation of this one paragraph.
>All hell breaks loose on the internet.
>Someone pushes a panic button in Oslo and removes the whole paragraph.

Re: Feature: Memorable Games of 2017 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I see the "it's a good game but not a good Zelda game" -meme has gotten popular. I don't quite grasp it. You want a retread of the old games, only with newer hardware? I think the characters, musical and visual cues, locations and plot points go far and beyond to tie it into the Zelda universe.

Different folks, different strokes. I was kinda left cold by A Link Between Worlds, so this reinvigorated my love for Zelda. Easily GOTY, might be game of the decade now that I think about it.

Did we not play the same game, which included ~50 minutes of cutscenes almost exclusively about the character in question, doing, well, all sorts of things. Mostly not being useless. During the cutscenes we find that she e.g.

Re: Even When Under Pressure The Nintendo Switch Isn't Too Hot To Handle

@NEStalgia
I disagree with your assessment. The zero point is arbitrary, but hardly useless: while the majority of water is salinated, it's also immensely less important for humans than the little fresh water we have. And you know what's also unsalinated water? Rain, which means celsius degrees offers a handy way to know when it'll snow and the ground will freeze. 100 °C is the boiling point of water, which is once again more useful than whatever Fahrenheit has. Celsius – Kelvin conversions are also extremely easy to make, a nice bonus.

I'll give you that the integer scale Fahrenheit has does make it easier to present minute information, but for everyday use Celsius is more than enough – and for other uses there are the decimal numbers.

Yeah, downloading them online was obviously illegal, but I've thought up until this that you can produce a copy for personal uses. For most purposes (music, literature) this is correct at least around these parts, but you're right mate, computer programs seem to be outside this protection.

Hmm... this seems to be a case of differing legislation. I could swear the owner of a game has a right to make a copy of the game for their own purposes. This is true at least in Finland and I assume rest of EU as well. It's not limited to just games either. You can make copy of music CD's and all sorts of programs – again, provided you don't distribute it.

Something similar, if a bit more limited, seems to apply to the US if the other commentators are to be believed.

Re: The Legend of Zelda Wii U Has Been Pushed Back to 2017, Will Release On NX As Well

ClockworkMario

This is just a giant middle finger they're waving at the few fans that bothered to even buy a Wii U. I'm sad to see the company I once thought as respectful to its supporters spitting in the face of its most loyal fanbase. Disgusting.

Sure, Wii U failed. Nintendo could've still give it life support to not make the situation this pathetic. Now the release window is a wasteland and the company reminds me of end times Sega, which threw out console after console hoping the next one would succeed; slowly corroding their core fanbase.

With that I raise my middle finger back at Nintendo. I will fondly remember the days of my youth with Melee and Sunshine. Sadly, there won't be more memories like that. /end of drama.

Re: Site News: Welcome To The Brand New Nintendo Life!

ClockworkMario

Why am I viewing a mobile site on my 15.6' laptop? Because truly, that's all it is; a mobile site weirdly stretched on the sides. Sure, I'll get used to it, the same way I'd get used to driving a Soviet era Lada after owning a Lamborghini – doesn't mean the change is positive.

For one thing, the front page is using absurd amounts of space without really showing much. It's cluttered and all over the place. Some of my distaste goes back to my absolute hatred of the random news blocks every single site seems to use nowadays. What's this fetish website designers have with squares and edges?

C'est la vie. It seems one more bastion of good website design has fallen victim to the attack of the blocks.

Edit. One more thing to rant about: I really liked accessing the forums straight from the front page. That's gone too, it seems.

Re: Video: We Deduce That The Great Ace Attorney is Looking Pretty Good

ClockworkMario

Looking very good so far. They're really shaking up the formula and bringing in new gameplay hooks (which this franchise sorely needs to keep fresh).

The only thing I'm disliking so far is the Watson-girl. Sure, we've seen just a glimpse of her so far but I can almost see all the cliches: she has a tragic history, her parents murdered or otherwise missing, and she's wise beyond her age but has some "adorable" fault, like overeating or clumsiness. Ace Attorney sidekicks have already tread these paths way too often. Hope the game proves me wrong in the end.
