I can’t wait for this game!
Not the Direct we want!
Now the question is: What does this mean for a general Direct?
So much for a regular summer Direct.
Not entirely how much you can show without spoiling stuff, but fair enough!
I haven’t played any of the other games yet, so I’m going to skip this, kinda sucks it’s just this.
@StarPoint Might not mean anything. If they have 20 mins of stuff to showcase, it's indeed better to do it in its own direct instead of in the general direct. Smash Ultimate did that in 2018 and non-Smash fans didn't like it.
Ok I'm excited for this game but what is the point in a direct about a game coming out in a month's time? Guess this means there won't be a general direct after all
I guess we won't get a general Direct this week...
But hey, the rumour was technically true, we did get A Direct this month.
Luckily I'm a fan of Xenoblade so I'm genuenly interested.
I'm happy for fans of the series but...
rats.
@StarPoint I guess they didn't want to focus much on that game in the general Direct considering it launches in one month. Many people (including me) don't want to get spoiled
I'm a bit surprised they're doing this with how much information they've already given. But you know what I am excited! I'm just so torn on whether or not I should tune in because I want to avoid story spoilers as much as possible 😅.
@FleaBag_11 on the contrary, it is still very possible. They just don't want XC3 to take 20min by itself so they make it have its own direct first.
To watch or not to watch? Hopefully it'll be light on spoilers. Not that it'll matter much; it airs in the middle of my work day as usual.
I probably won't be tuning in, but this is great for Xenoblade fans! Maybe Splatoon fans will get something similar to this in August, right?
R-right?
I think we may still get a general Direct next week. I think they are waiting until afrer FEW Three Hopes to release so they can reveal a new FE game.
I am so excited for this game and am delighted to see how much attention and promotion it's getting. However, because I'm so excited I've avoided much beyond the first couple of trailers. I will probably end up watching this direct at some point after I finish the game.
I'm excited for this even though it's not a general Direct. My biggest hope is they announce a pro controller as both my pro controllers that I got in Spring 2017 are in a rather rough state.
@HenFjo please understand
So no XC3 in the general direct next week. Lovely. Gives them time to touch on new announcements.
No general Nintendo direct? Hard pass for me. Sorry, but I'm REALLY not feeling this.😞
I am skipping this one. Thanks for the heads up Nintendo so I do not waste my time watching the Direct hoping for news on other games that will be released.
Removed - disrespecting others
Ehhh bit disappointing as I was hoping for a full Direct.
I'm really conflicted on this one. On one hand, more Xenoblade hype is always a good thing, but on the other, I really don't want to know any more about the game before playing it, while on the third hand, there's probably going to be a bunch of people annoyed that this isn't the E3 Direct they've been hoping for and viewing Xenoblade more negatively than they would have otherwise.
@eaglebob345 If a brand new FE game were to be revealed almost immediately after Three Hopes releases, I'd be getting major deja vu from February's Pokemon Presents.

Single game directs for already announced games have little bearing on general directs.
We have gotten many single game directs and pokemon presents close to directs.
Yey, at least Nintendo has told me I don't need to waste my time watching stuff that I don't care about compared to some Directs.
Also, surely they have shown the entire game by now? There will be no surprises or anything, I really don't get this giving away more or less everything advertising. Like watching a Netflix advert, once you have seen it you dont need to watch it as they have told you everything about it.
Now, hopefully, if they do an actual Direct, Xenoblades will NOT be in there.........yeah right
Ok, as most here I am happy for the XC fans, but this really looks like bad bad news for a proper Nintendo Direct this month
@Pikachupwnage I hope so...
That's 20 minutes more they can focus on other games in the Not-E3 Direct.
Honestly hope they do something like giving us news for the pyra and Mythra amiibos from smash dlc as well
I don't quite understand those saying "Oh well, no general Direct then!" The current rumors that I know of say there is a Direct, scheduled for June 29. I don't see how Nintendo doing a smaller Direct for one of their (currently) bigger game franchises first to get it out of the way somehow negates the possibility of a more general, longer Direct the week after. Nintendo does this kind of thing for Pokemon and other big name games. Capcom does the same for games like Monster Hunter, etc. I, for one, am still hoping for the full Direct next week, and I'll be watching this Xenoblade 3 Direct after I get home from work on Wednesday (love the Xenoblade games).
Nintendo: "You didn't like SMBU taking up most of a summer Direct? Consider the message got. Xenoblade 3 will take up ALL of this summer Direct!"🤓
I'm being humorous, of course, but if I had a dollar for every impending comment, thread and other fan reaction that won't be...😏
This is how they treat games that has a tonne of content. Kind of how I knew Strikers would be bare. Hope they still do a general direct.
Urgh. I was really hoping for a regular Direct.. Oh well, it might still happen - next week or so.
I hope they have plans for the special edition, because last time was an absolute mess.
I almost don't want to watch to go into the game as blind as possible, but I'll be there.
what are they gonna spend 20 mins on, it's going to be the same style of combat and open world as the last two, so the only thing they can do is spil every character you encounter in the game, yippee! Still holding out hope for that general direct
I've already been avoiding watching all latest trailers so I can go in as blind as possible. I don't need a whole Direct of potential spoilers, thanks.
I thought we would be getting a september Nintendo Direct (and maybe game specific ones earlier) and guess what?
I was right.
@coolwhip Probably why they're doing this because I know people get in a hissy fit when Xenoblade comes on in main directs lol
@Kiz3000
yeah that's what i was thinking.
The rumours did point to the 29th which is in 1 week and while rumours don't guarantee anything it would line up.
also interested to see some info on this game.
This is not Mario but I’m happy for xeno fans
@Mauzuri No point doing a general direct a week after a game specific one, then they'd just combine the two.
I really REALLY hope this isn't all we're going to get for the E3 season. If so, what a massive bummer.
@Fighting_Game_Loser hopefully.
Well there is the June Direct
I never played any Xenoblade, but after the announced of this new game...i really think if i should start to play. Because it seems to me a beautiful game.
For whatever reason, I don’t care about this particular XC. I think it’s because I just want a regular Direct. So, I’ll tune in, because I’m feeling deprived. I need to see SOMETHING. Come on Nintendo, you’re killing me.
XC3 is in a weird spot given it’s releasing earlier than intended. I guess they feel the need to front load information before it releases?
Though not the same, there have been instances of an Indie Direct being followed up with an actual Direct. So there’s hope yet! Maybe!
Nintendo fans asked for a Direct and they got one (can't wait to see all the people complaining no one cares about Xenoblade)
@Slinkoy1 I take it you haven't actually played the games before? The combat mechanics are drastically different in each game.
We cannot presume based on this that there will not be a general direct as well. I actually like this approach rather than one game dominating a general direct.
It is quite plausible that we still get a general direct in a week or so.
I'm not a fan of the series. So I probably won't watch this at all.
I'm really starting to doubt that we'll get a our annual E3ish Direct at this point. This is a bummer.
Well instead of one direct with many games to show, it's now one direct with an in-deph of info to show. Hopefully they do this with Breath of the Wild 2 as well. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is already a day one buy for me so this is definitely something I will look forward to.
1. This is good, because the people who are into it will be satisfied, while the people that aren't won't be bored senseless, and leaves room for...
2. The regular direct is coming, obviously. For one, there's no additional N64 games on the slate after Pokémon snap, and the timings just too good, they aren't going to leave the expansion Pak, thats what the big push seems to be, not to mention the mario kart dlc.
@HenFjo Main Direct is still coming
I laughed audibly when I saw the announcement. This is such an unintentionally comedic announcement, especially given how hard people are wanting a regular Direct nowadays.
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh,...
Well, all those “a direct is coming soon” rumors weren’t technically wrong…
Nothing at all against this game but.... really? A direct just about a single game at E3 time?? There better be a general one coming up soon after this one!
I'm so disappointed
Must not watch...must not watch...GOSH I'm so excited for this game!!!
Why is everybody assuming that this replaces a general direct? There is literally zero evidence for that? Plus, this could be clearing time for other announcements in a general direct.
There will still be a proper Direct next week I fancy.
Been plenty of times there has been indie world Directs followed closely by a proper Direct so this happening this week doesn't mean much.
So probably not a Direct then
Nintendo is really losing me lately...
my dissapointment is immesurable, and my day has been ruined.
Wow this is huge, I am so happy! And I cannot wait for the main Nintendo direct on 29th as well.
W should stop giving these leakers and self proclaimed "insiders" any attention. There is no way Nintendo would air different Directs back to back. Now please excuse me while I play the Prime Trilogy that gets leaked every year by the same people.
Great! Been looking forward for the deep dives to start. No they won’t spoil anything. Yes we’ll still get a direct. Yes xb3 will probably be in that too. So stop crying everyone. XB3 looks superb.
Im excited for this. Hope they dont spoil too much. Tried to dodge some of their posts about Characters in their tweets.
Hmm well I'd have preferred this XC3 focus to be appended onto the general Summer Direct? Maybe (hopefully) that main Direct is still in the work for later this week or next.
I'll probably tune in for a closer look at the game. I'm not too worried about spoilers, as by the time I get around to playing XC3 I'll have long forgotten the Direct footage. ^_^;;
Not gonna be watching due to wanting to be genuinely surprised when I play it. Already know I want it.
Baffled at everyone thinking this eliminates the summer direct.
It's very common for Nintendo to do a game specific direct followed by a general direct a week or two later. See for yourselves:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Direct
@eaglebob345
My thoughts exactly!
So remember the E3 where Xenoblade 2 took up a lot of time basically telling you how to play the game?
Yeah, they're not repeating that mistake.
But dude, I just wanna get to the game now. No need to spoil anything....
For as many bitter, disappointed, negative comments there are here, I am that many times times 10 times hyped for this direct! Oh the sweet, sweet tears thank you for delivering Nintendo! Giving the world what we need with a XC3 direct! Xenoblade will save the world!
hopefully they give us another release date to preorder the special editions want to nab one right away.
some people need to stop being salty this direct wont effect another potential direct that would cover future line up of games for switch give them time.
I have preordered the game. So is there any reason to watch this direct?
That's it? NO SMASH???
Yeah true, they might just want to get this out of the way for the general Direct (because people don’t appreciate if those are filled with lengthy bits about previously known games).
Hope it’s coming soon though!
@RiasGremory Hopefully they devise a way to offer the Special Edition without royally screwing it up this time.
You’ve raised my hopes and dashed them expertly, Nintendo. Bravo!
IT'S REYN TIME!
Nice, I am looking forward to some new info for Xenoblade 3.
I do not expect that there will be a general direct the week after it. It would have made more sense otherwise to announce this separate direct during that direct.
@Mattock1987 Well, they are known to do that, aren't they? lol
I am very inclined into playing this game. However Digimon Survive comes out too in July. I still need to catch up on the pvs. Though my first outing is Xenoblade 2 so I think this will be a good direct to watch.
I don’t understand why people are getting upset over the XC3 direct cancelling out a direct next week that has not even been announced and others getting annoyed over people believing a direct is not happening next week. People give these so called leakers too much attention. A direct will happen when Nintendo says so. For me until Nintendo announces a direct to air on June 29th, Wednesday’s XC3 direct is the only direct happening. If a direct does happen on June 29 great, if there isn’t a direct on the 29th so be it.
Not too upset by this. I've got Fall Guys to check out tomorrow and been trying to get back into Horizon Forbidden West. The main thing I'd like to know from Nintendo is the next slate of N64 games (Mario Party 3 please) and if and when they'll potentially add GBA games to either service.
@pnott Exactly. Who promised them a Direct? Crying over nothing.
Who knows! Nintendo might announce that a proper Direct will air the following week at the end of this one.
Just a reverse of what they've done before, whereby in a regular Direct they announced a specific one like for Smash or AC.
It would align perfectly with Alanah Pearce's comment that a Direct (I presume she meant general) is on the 29th.
Tbh though I have SO MANY backlog games across Switch/PS5 at the moment, that I can survive without one. Perhaps a Direct in September when said backlog is slightly reduced.
You know, I could be bitter about this, but this is exactly something Nintendo would do. E3 season has been something of a disappointment this year, since we technically didn't get an E3, and Jeff Keighley's attempt at an event had Guile and little else, so everyone has their eyes on Nintendo wondering what they're going to bring to the table for E3, and they're like "Let's show 'em a thing or 3!" I can't even be mad about this, this is just funny.
@BenAV I'm not watching either...
I don't need 20 min from a game I'm already sold in.
@moodycat thats your opinion but xenoblade 2 was a great game.
@Bizzyb i agree hopefully they learned their lesson after that fiasco.
Well...... Crap! 😂🤣
There goes the last hope for a direct before September! They REALLY should have said something!
@coolwhip but the one we deserve
I'll watch it, this game looks great, and for the ones who are dissapointed, learn to manage your own expectations, that were formed solely on what people with doubtful reputation said.
I'm already sold on this game, so I really don't need to tune in honestly. There's kind of been information coming out left and right over the last few months no? Either way, I'll just check in afterwards to see what the highlights are.
it seens Nintendo will do game specific Direct for it major releases this year.
Happy for Xenoblade fans. I think this pretty much kills any chances of a regular Nintendo Direct this summer. There is no way Nintendo wouldn't have saved this news for a regular Nintendo Direct instead if one was to occur. I reckon we'll also have a Splatoon 3 Direct sometime in the next few weeks.
Not sure if I want to see this as I don’t wanna get spoiled. That being said I’m sure I’ll get spoiled on things anyway considering I’m not planning on buying this day 1, as I want to finish the first 2 games first
Maybe we’re getting a late July direct instead, since there’s no specific time Nintendo has to have a direct
There was still the June 29th date being thrown around. So, maybe they wanted to do two Direct presentations this month? This game is still coming out next month and it has been almost two weeks since Strikers was released. I wouldn't rule out a general Direct still happening this month.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 got its own dedicated Direct on November 7th 2017, one month before its launch.
It seems like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is following a very similar marketing cycle.
@Vortexeo I only meant same style for open world, probably should have mentioned showing combat at a later point in my comment so it didn't sound confusing haha
I guess this explains why they had so many isolated announcements in May and June--they must have a lot of confidence in XC3 for it to warrant an entire Direct all to itself.
And we already had so much info on this game! Maybe Nintendo is worrying about the initial sales and want to pump up the hype.
@Edu23XWiiU We sinned too much.
and guess what?
I was right.
@sanderev This is one of my favourite emblems from Greek mythology.
Skipping this, avoiding spoilers like the plague. I’m very spoiler-sensitive in terms of what a gaming experience can mean to me if it’s experienced blind compared to spoiled, so yeap, twenty minutes I won’t be looking at just yet.
Well next week i hope we get the real direct this doesnt interest me at all.
Why not just have a longer general Direct and talk about more games sooner than one small focusing on on game that many aren’t interested in? Yes Xeno is a popular series but not with everyone. Prime 4, Bayo 3, Advance Wars release date, Persona confirm or deny?! Those are the big questions I need answers to.
@moodycat @RiasGremory I believe these sorts of interactions can be wholly avoided if before an opinion, people stated that it was an opinion. Instead of a point-blank statement of "x is great/awful," a simple, "I find x to be great/awful" can be more helpful.
Then again, loads of people on the internet hate on opinions even when you're being obvious that's it's just your point of view. C'est la vie.
Meh. I was hoping for the REAL Direct (the ones that reveal new upcoming game releases) that probably everyone else was hoping might come before the end of the month as well. Guess that prospect just got blown out of the water.
Oh, and aren't we just about due for SOMETHING on Wave 2 of that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Track Pass by now?
Not a fan of seeing every single character and locations in a game before I get the chance to play it. Not watching.
@GrailUK 2 spoiled a good bit before launch, and their japanese twitter has already been spilling out minor info like a busted faucet. At this point, I'm considering a total gaming news blackout until I'm a good 30 hours into the story.
20 minutes is a long time to showcase (i.e. potentially spoil a lot of) an unreleased game. Personally not interested even though I have XC 3 preordered.
That said, my interest would be piqued a bit if Nintendo were to announce a Xenoblade Chronicles X port at the end of the Direct. But if such an announcement is coming I can read about it somewhere afterwards.
20 minutes of new information definitely means they couldn't have crammed this into a normal Direct; the cancellation of E3 and the release date being moved up probably also messed with the timing of this, as a Direct would've probably aired last week or the week before (not sure if they ever announced dates) and this would've come after, possibly closer to September. I think the Booster Course Pass alone signals they're still going to be airing a proper Direct, given its 6-wave release perfectly aligns with the usual 3 Direct schedule. Not sure why everyone seems to think it's still 2020 when Directs were really MIA
@Fizza I was thinking the same thing until I mistakenly saw one of the supposed leaked images from a new game. If it is real, I hope it's story is a little more cohesive than Three Houses.
Let's not lose our heads though?!
I dont mind this at all, I'm excited for BotW 2 but my MOST hype game on Switch is Xenoblade 3.
It was same in 2017, as much as I enjoyed BotW my favourite Switch game on that year was Xenoblade 2.....god damn I loved that game!
Nintendo’s 2022 has been pretty stacked and there’s still some high profile titles to come that we know about. I can personally live with it if there’s no general Direct for summer.
@moodycat Absolutely fair and I wholeheartedly agree. Unfortunately, it's not in everyone's nature to stop and think for a fraction of a second, which would make a lot of things easier.
Besides, I find surface level adoration or dislike to not make for interesting conversation. Your original comment wasn't a simple "bash XC2 for bashings sake." It had more meat to it. Yet the response to it was to just take your opinion of XC2 being bad and say the opposite, which is a nonstatement. If instead it was a query as to why you didn't enjoy it, that could've opened up a potential avenue for discussion.
Though again, when it comes to matters of opinion, loads of people aren't willing to open that avenue and hear something different, which is proven time and time again in these comments sections. Makes for fun reading for lurkers like me though!
Has everyone forget that dedicated showcases for Smash, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Fire Emblem happened in the same timeframe the general directs happened in previous years?
@DiggleDog I was kind of hoping to learn more about games that are coming up, like Bayo 3 and maybe a new release date for Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Bootcamp.
@Ade117 All this did was clear up the main Direct from needing to include Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in it.
Chill Out people.
The Main Direct is STILL coming to focus on major games released AFTER July/Xenoblade.
I do not think this affects the general Direct...I do think Nintendo felt urgent need to market XC3 before it's release, especially where they moved it up. I also think they just want it to be a roaring success following XC2.
I guess what I'm saying is to just relax. The Direct will come and other games will get to use that time instead.o
I guess the rumored direct on the 29th might have some weight then.
That said the people commenting above me aren't very smart.... a dedicated direct for a game has never replaced a general direct.
With that said though I'm not watching this one even though I preordered this game , I personally think we've been spoiled on information for Xenoblade 3 and 20 min worth of information might ruin my experience of the game a bit.
@Citano oh God PTSD to when XC2 took up 10 or so minutes of a direct
@KayFiOS yeah Advance Wars is the main one for me. Like, the game’s done. It’s just sitting there, I presume.
@Bizzyb I doubt it. June Directs were always on the second Tuesday of June. We're going to have a repeat of 2020 with shadow drop trailers and individual game presentations.
@DiggleDog Let's just hope this doesn't turn into an Earthbound Beginnings/Star Fox 2 situation, where the game just sits in Nintendo's vault for two decades.
A general Nintendo Direct this month might be out of the picture now, but maybe in July? Who knows!
@Ade117 2020 was a year unlike any other. Many companies had to switch up (no pun intended) strategies for releasing information. It doesn't benefit Nintendo in ANY way to do that this year.
lol The salt is here is delicious. By the way folks, a game specific Direct never cancelled out a general Direct.
Anyway, super looking forward to this. Xeno3 is already a day 1, but more info is great and I'm really happy Nintendo is going all out with the marketing.
@Highlar I absolutely agree. This does not mean we won’t get a standard Nintendo Direct everyone! If they have 20 minutes of information to share for only one game, it simply makes sense to separate it from a regular direct.
@Bizzyb Alright, I hope you're right, but I also don't want to be disappointed if we don't get a general Nintendo Direct. We'll find out soon.
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Anachronism Hmm, I'm all for a delve into the fighting mechanisms. Yeah, anything to do with the story outside of the synopsis (which isn't a spoiler) I tend to go make a cup of tea. But gameplay, I'm all ears. Especially as we don't get manuals these days.
My prediction was Three Hopes direct, so I guess this is better.
I've had a fun little theory in my head that whenever someone leaks a Nintendo thing, they postpone that thing so they can prove the leak false. In this scenario, I figure the Switch Pro has been ready to go for 3 years.
Ugh, not a Xenoblade fan so I don't care. And really there's little on the horizon I actually do care about (just Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and BotW2), which is why I'm waiting on a general Direct. My wallet looks to be relatively safe for the next 6 months or so the way this is going (but that's not terribly surprising because this schedule is packed with games I don't care about).
@Fizza why? The Pokemon games didn't have the same developers, but the warriors games definitely don't have the same developers and three hopes was clearly built almost entirely from three houses assets anyway
Since it’s not a regular Nintendo Direct, but a Special Edition Direct, do you think it’ll crash the servers and no one will get to watch it, like the XBC3 special edition fiasco?
Good… more time in the general direct for other games.
Just don't do this and then also hijack 5 minutes of your "mainline" Direct to showcase XC 3 news as well, Nintendo (recalling all of those intrusive Smash Bros. Ultimate updates that ate away precious minutes of so many Directs for so long...on top of the ones fully dedicated to it specifically). I hated that redundancy.
Rip to actual direct rumor
@Ade117 I'm still hearing June 28/29 but with Nintendo you never really know...either way there will definitely a Main Direct before the end of July. 100%
Gamers: "But I wanted a full, mainline Direct! I wanted more BotW 2 footage, and maybe some Metroid Prime 4 while you're at it! I wanted news on the next wave of MK 8 Deluxe's track pass, and when we're gonna finally get Advance Wars! I want more new game announcements! I want--"
Judge Smails: "You'll get NOTHING and LIKE IT!"
@AtlanteanMan Nintendo can do all this in trailers on You Tube, no need for a Nintendo Direct for this
@iLikeUrAttitude Nintendo would never do two Nintendo Direct back to back.
@Otoemetry @RiasGremory Xenoblade Chronicles 2 would be a good game if it didn't have blatant, virgin-bait fanservice forced in making it uncomfortable to sit through at most turns.
@Giancarlothomaz But they already did that multiple times...
@Arawn93 not really though?

#NintendoE3 lol
Already sold on the game so I don’t think I need to watch the Direct. But seeing Nintendo fans that enjoy Xenoblade and those that don’t rip into each other today across social media is more entertaining than I think even a general Direct would be.
Removed - flaming/arguing
Wow lots of pessimists assuming this proves that we're not getting a general direct at all. And in spite of the leak that the very same group was getting hyped about still being a week away.
Removed - discussing moderation
Man I dont understand why some people acting childish about this?
When Nintendo is ready to show their other games, they do another direct, meanwhile Xenoblade 3 is ready to be shown and its one of the bigger games coming out this year for Switch......so whats the problem here?
If you dont care for Xenoblade then dont watch.
Xenoblade Chronicles X shadow drop?
Everybody look, the direct is still going to happen, it wasn't scheduled for this week anyway.
7am? Ugh. I’ll be up but not coherent.
Not keen on this - it will be difficult to avoid spoilers. Even if I don’t watch the Direct there will be Twitter coverage etc. Going to try and stick my head in the sand until I’ve played it through. Which will probably be end of September based on the amount of content in XC2. Oh dear that’s a long time.
@AlexanderDaniels Nah XB2 is a good game. Not everyone has a low threshold on being a prude
Meh, I can't wait for the game but I've no interest in watching this.
I really can't decide whether to watch or not! The game is pre-ordered, but Nintendo have a tendency to spoil their story-driven games too much...
I feel I probably will end up watching it.
Not the Direct I wanted, but I'm happy that Xenoblade fans are eating good these days.
@moodycat you just prove my point.
@AlexanderDaniels there nothing wrong having fan service in these type of games so dont start that excuse.
When rumors say zig, Nintendo zags.
@coolwhip nah, people put their fate and expectations on words released by doubtful people, that's all hehehe.
@dkxcalibur Don't lose hope!
