Another week begins, which means it's time to gaze upon the download treats heading to Europe this week. It's a pretty strong line-up, with two encouraging Nindie arrivals on the Wii U, two GBA Mega Man titles, another SEGA Classic, the latest 3DS retail arrival from Intelligent Systems and a whole load of discounts. Plenty of options to consider, so let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
Ultratron (Curve Digital, €8.49 / £6.50 until 28th May, normally €9.99 / £7.99) - For those with a yearning for a retro-style arena-based shmup, this may be an ideal option. From the team behind Titan Attacks, this brings the '80s to mind yet has flashy HD visuals to boot. It looks rather fun, with the bonus that it has 40 levels and a whole load of special weapons to tackle; we'll see whether it wins the battle or should be blown to smithereens in our review.
Nihilumbra (Beautifun Games, €6.99 / £5.49 until 28th May, normally €8.99 / £6.99) - It's taken a little longer than expected to make its way to Wii U, but does arrive with a unique co-op mode utilising the GamePad. This is an adventure puzzle title in which you manipulate the environment with coloured paint, while it's also boasting an attractive art style and involving narrative. We'll see whether this delivers on its potential in our review.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discount
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (Black Forest Games, €7.49 / £5.99 until 21st May, normally €14.99 / £12.99)
Ducktales: Remastered (Capcom, €6.69 / £5.39 until 28th May, normally €14.99 / £11.99)
Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (Capcom, €5.99 / £4.79 until 28th May, normally €14.99 / £11.99)
Resident Evil Revelations (Capcom, €14.99 / £11.99 until 28th May, normally €49.99 / £39.99)
Guac' a Mole (Madskull Creations, €2.69 / £2.39 until 11th June, normally €3.50 / £3.19)
Wooden Sen'SeY (Neko Entertainment, €2.99 / £2.39 until 21st May, normally €9.99 / £8.00)
Wii U Virtual Console
Mega Man Zero 4 (Capcom, €6.99 / £6.29) - The final instalment in this series and the latest GBA arrival on Wii U, this naturally introduces new foes and abilities; you'll now have a Z Knuckle punch, be able to improve your stats from destroyed enemy parts and change the weather. There's certainly plenty going on, and we'll see whether this lives up to its predecessors in our review.
Mega Man Battle Network 2 (Capcom,€6.99 / £6.29) - A continuation of the RPG gameplay introduced in the original, new features are worked into this entry; this GBA title also picks up a few months after the first game's story, too. Not your classic Mega Man action, but still rather rewarding - we gave this a strong recommendation in our Mega Man Battle Network 2 review.
3DS eShop
3D Thunder Blade (SEGA, €4.99 / £4.49) - Another terrific SEGA arcade makes its way to the 3DS; this time around you're piloting an attack helicopter through tricky terrain and combat scenarios. This M2 remaster includes stereoscopic 3D, Circle Pad Pro / C-Stick support, remixed music and more besides. We'll gear up and take to the skies for our review.
3DS Retail Download
Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. (Nintendo, €39.99, £34.99) - A new IP developed by Intelligent Systems, this takes place in an alternate history of literary heroes and Abraham Lincoln fighting to defend a Steampunk London. With over-the-shoulder strategy this is certainly a fresh approach, and in addition to the campaign there are local and online multiplayer modes. Despite the occasional design flaw we were big fans of this in our Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. review. Available from 15th May.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Animal Hospital (Bigben Interactive, €14.99 / £11.99 until 28th May, normally €24.99 / £19.99)

My Exotic Farm (Bigben Interactive, €4.10 / £3.70 until 28th May, normally €6.99 / £6.29)
My Farm 3D (Bigben Interactive, €4.70 / £4.10 until until 28th May, normally €7.99 / £6.99)

Hometown Story (Rising Star Games, €14.99 / £14.99 until 21st May, normally €29.99 / £29.99)
Virtue's Last Reward (Rising Star Games, €9.99 / £7.99 until 21st May, normally €24.99 / £19.99)
3DS HOME Theme Promotion

MMZero4. 'will wait for Nihilumbra review.
Also RE Revelations 3D.
I was considering MegaMan Zero 4, but ever since finding out that it was supposed to end with 3, I'm kinda sour on 4... so nothing for me this week.
Thunder Blade for me!
Nothing thanks, still waiting for Paper Mario.
Was hoping for more N64 this week.
Nevermind
Preordered Codename Steam, so just that for me this week
Both Mega Man games!
Some decent discounts on the WiiU. I'll see...
I'll get Megaman Zero 4, and have already preordered physical release of Codename S.T.E.A.M. So those for me this week.
Definitely Ultratron for me and then Dungeons and Dragons and possibly Duck Tales.A good week all round I'd say for both consoles.Surely there can be no complaints?
Whilst I would love to have all 4 MMZ games on the Wii U, owning the original GBA cartridges and the DS collection means I'll probably wait for a sale.
Plus I'm already running low on space and I'm not sure I have any sockets left for a hard drive.
Definitely BIT.TRIP SAGA and maybe Code Name S.T.E.A.M to support new IP.
I didn't want to buy it cause of the slow enemy turns but that has been fixed and works even better on my new 3DS so: shine get!
Oh gawd Mega Man Zero 4 already? I haven't gotten the first one yet. Too many games, not enough time.
edit: speaking of shine get...WHERE IS OUR SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE REMAKE dammit.
S.T.E.A.M!!!
Now that we got all four Zero games, I'm sure they'll release the Zero collection on DS soon
Both Mega Man titles for me
Nothing for me until Splatoon comes out. I've already finished Codename STEAM and I've still got Bravely Second and Xenoblade X to finish
Nothing for me this week. Nihilumbra looks kinda cool tho.
steam
It looks like developers have started understanding that first weel discounts are a good way to sell more! Gonna get Nihilumbra because I like to support european developers. And probably Wooden Sen'SeY - I know it's not going to be awesome but I can't say no to a 70% discount.
Ultratron and nihilumbra look fantastic!
I might get BIT.TRIP SAGA at that price.
Waiting for Shingeki no Kyojin: Humanity in Chains (As it is now known in Europe).
3d Thunder Blade and S.T.E.A.M retail.. Probably Bit Trip Saga too
Still holding out for Paper Mario, although discounted Ducktales & Guac' a Mole are VERY tempting...
Any chance Sega puts out a compilation of all these arcade titles it has released for the 3DS for the Wii U? What if I ask super nicely?!?!?
I sure hope I don't have to use dollars to get STEAM like it stands on the list.
Super Street Fighter IV 3D? Got physical but holding all those cartrigdes is mess. Not a big problem in home but otherwise...
And its got online multplayer so its worth to gave support.
Pretty bad week even with new IP STEAM. Enough with the mega man games already and where are the n64 games? I guess from here on out if they are going to continue the VC, all games are being ported to the 'NX' now.
Saddened to see Ultratron at only 2% getting beaten by an average 10 year old Megaman game which costs about the same. This is a top drawer release folks, support it!
Please go and buy Code Name STEAM. It's great fun, and I'd be sad if it doesn't get a sequel.
@readyletsgo How is it a bad week, what do you expect! There is a top quality Wii U Eshop release that we're getting at a reduced price and on the same week as it's released on XBOX and before Playstation, another indie game that potentially could be decent and makes good use of the Gamepad,2 VC titles that have never been released on VC before, and then a good choice of sale titles with fairly sizeable reductions. Then on 3DS there is a brand new IP from Nintendo ,another awesome Sega 3D classic and again a decent selection on sale. What more do you want or expect in a single week, honestly!
3D Thunder Blade... Yes!
Can we get Paper Mario soon please so we can move onto some more new N64 games?
A warning to anyone considering getting Virtues last Reward. I couldn't finish it because of a load save file bug. The screen would go black. I contacted the European publisher, and they gave me a fix for a seperate saving game bug. I told them this, but I got no where with them, I feel robbed of £29.99. This is the third time I've mentioned this in 3 discounts of this game. So be warned!
Time for a little Dungeons & Dragons goodness.
I would have chosen Nihilumbra but I got tired of waiting and bought it on steam (and beat it) a few months ago.
Resident Evil Revelations 3DS for me.
Nothing :/
So what's the UK price for Codename STEAM?
@manu0 There is no way they're gonna do that. DS games are 10 bucks, GBA games are 7. So they'd never give you the opportunity to buy the same four games for 10 instead of the current 28.
@OorWullie Ultraton is also an old game. (2 years old anyway). If it was brand new and on Wii U first or at the same time then it would be top quality.
(The last Puppy Games port was of unacceptable quality - probably easier to just get the originals which are pretty much perfect).
I still need to finish the other Mega Man Zero games, but will get 4 at some point.
14th May is my birthday!!!
And boy, does it show! [modesty mode: off]
Seriously though, as preferrable as GBA games on 3DS (I'll never stop repeating that!) would be, these discounts are tempting indeed. So far, I could snatch DuckTales on WiiU (first home console double-dipping for me: I already own the game on X360) so my girlfriend could have her own save file on it, and Giana Sisters as well; as for 3DS, Street Fighter 3D and, if the small price overcomes my fear, Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D.
This is gonna be a good week.
I forgot about Bit Trip Saga. I'm pretty excited about it now (I really shouldn't though, I still have to beat FE:A and Dream Team).
ULTRATRON surely
RE Revelations for 3DS possibly.
If the RE Wii U version had gyro or Wiimote support, I would buy it at full price. Presently it is worth 0c for me.
Mega Man Zero 4 is awesome! It also has one of the best boss battles in the series: Commander Craft. Beating that guy with no sub tanks or cyber elf upgrades is thrilling, and I'd encourage anyone else to try doing the same!
While Codename Steam looks like a lot of fun, I just don't have the time and money to buy and play it. There are so many games coming and so many that I still need to finish, I'll sadly need to skip a few this year...
By the time I get back from holiday we should hopefully have reviews up, but from what I've seen thus far Ultratron is looking like a must and possibly Nihilumbra as well.
@readyletsgo you can't be serious? It's mega may just like last year. On month of just mega man. Na an Eu got dk 64 just two weeks ago. What's with this nx nonsense?
@Kaze_Memaryu Well, to be fair, its not the same situation as with X5, where sequels were produced without Inafunes consent.
Zero 4 exists, because fans asked for a closure on the Dr.Weil arc and, as the series first definitive ending, it delivered.
It wasnt intended, but it also wasnt created out of sheer greediness, like X6 was.
And gameplay wise, its among the best in the series, also unlike X6, which is, along with X7, the worst of the franchise by miles.
@readyletsgo Wha....?!
Please tell me thats some form of irony that i dont get...
First off, its MegaMay, ergo the VC will be loaded with MegaMan games.
Second, there is a reason MegaMan is one of the biggest franchises out there...you know...people like it.
And you NX comment is nonsense. We dont even know what it is yet. If anything, main releases would be pulled from the WiiU first if the NX would be around anytime soon.
And guess what ? They arent. Zelda is still on its way, so is StarFox.
If anything, those would be the first titles to be moved to a new system IF it was anywhere near being finished.
Picked up Nihilumbra on Vita so nothing for me this week...
GBA games only on Wii U is stupid.
Capcom goodies for me this week (3DS) if they ever come to NA eShop.
Getting a physical copy of Codename STEAM delivered on Friday, the only other thing that tempts me is the discount on Harvest Moon Tale of 2 Towns.
Still trying to get Shin Megami Tensei IV which is on offer and ending on Thursday but my 4GB 3DS SD card is too small for it being a whopping 14,000 blocks. Have ordered a 32GB Micro SD but I'm going to miss the offer now as it will arrive too late, hope it goes back on sale again in the future.
At least downloading 3DS titles could be more of an option in the future after it arrives.
Preordered STEAM and I'll probably get Resident Evil Revelations seeing as it's so cheap.
Nothing this week so my backlog breaths a sigh of relief 😄
Ultratron and ducktales for me maybe nihilumbra depending what debits come off this week.is dungeons and dragons any good?
That's a pretty good sale price for Ducktales, it was always one of my favorite Capcom Disney games, the only knock is that it is a bit short.
Has that Code Name: STEAM review been fixed yet? (It hasn't) I'm pretty sure this release will be the updated version without the slow enemy turn issue, right? It seems the biggest sticking point in that review and now this "design flaw" has been repeated in the game's summary on this page as if it was still a problem and it's not. :/
@Flopsy86 Why not buy it now, and download it later?
@Flopsy86 Can't you just delete something temporarily while you complete the purchase of SMTIV, the delete SMTIV and restore your card to how it was? A 4gb is more than 14,000 blockls, isn't it?
Is the RE: Revelations demo a decent representation of the full game? I didn't like the demo.
Saving my money for Splatoon, I'd buy Codename Steam otherwise.
Thunder Blade...
So any of the 3DS discounted titles(minus virtue's last reward) worth it? Those prices look pretty tempting.
@Einherjar True, but looking back at the series, I personally really liked the implied cliffhanger, and especially the original idea concerning X (trying to avoid spoilers), so I was kinda disappointed to see it wrapped up a bit too clean. The huge cliffhanger implications are what I love the most about MegaMan ZX/ZXA, but it's a personal preference, and I don't mean to say Z4 is bad, by all means.
@Kaze_Memaryu I personally liked a clear ending for a change
But yeah, Z3 was pretty important in its own right.
SPOILERS:
It was the game that ended the Light / Wily legacy by destroying X and Zeros original bodys (Im still so mad that they didnt go the extra mile and used Zeros original design for the Omega fight)
But even story wise, it was no where near as bad as the X5-X6 transition.
"Oh, Zeros dead, oh Zero is back, no he isnt, yes he is, and whens the ending of X5 ? After X9 i presume...which never happened"
The best cliffhanger so far was, and please be gentle to me, Legends 2 ducks
My hype for S.T.E.A.M. died a long time ago. Nothing for me this week.
Since Thursday is another Christian festivity day, I almost know without a doubt I can't get Steam on Friday. That's just how it works, hopefully I can get Kirby though (they didn't have it last Friday)!
GBA games only on Wii U is stupid.
Yes, but the 3DS is getting ZERO VC games at all right now. Even if 3DS were supporting GBA games, it still wouldn't be getting any VC games right now.
You Europeans should really check out Codename: S.T.E.A.M.
It is really underrated here in the US, but it's a gem.
@Einherjar Hahaha, ouch!
@Kaze_Memaryu But yeah, so far, every series ended on something that lead to the next one. MM9 and 10 had the first signs of "Maverick" behaviour, if you take the X5 Ending and put it at the end of the series, you know what happened to Zero, Zero 4 explained why no true Reploid is alive anymore and why people bridged the gap between Reploids and Humans and ZX set Legends into motion.
And, well...i still feel like weve forgotten someone...and its really strange too, like, we left someone to rot on the moon or something...hmm
I heartily recommend Codename Steam to all Europeans considering that it is my first tactical strategy game and may it have started my love of the genre. Such a great game!
Ok where the hell is space hulk ?
@Moon @gcunit
Gave that a try and I was able to free JUST enough blocks, my problem is I have 2 titles which were preinstalled from 3DS XLs, New Super Mario Bros 2 and MK7 which are 2700 blocks and 5100 blocks respectively.
I performed a system transfer to my New 3DS XL recently and it means that under no circumstances I can delete those 2 titles otherwise I'll never get them back because there is no way to redownload them.
I'll download Shin Megami Tensei and then delete it again, and then download it again when my new micro SD arrives, after I transfer everything over.
Which RE Revelations version to choose??
@Flopsy86 SMT IV is on sale like every other week.
more mega-man game on the wii u. yeah!
but i'm still waiting for sonic 2 for 3ds eshop so i can buy both sonic 1 and sonic 2 together.
