The Zero Escape series is an interesting entry in the genre of visual storytelling. Depicting a riveting tale of imprisonment and escape, the previous two games have been critically acclaimed for their dynamic approach to storytelling. While it is true that this type of game is something of an acquired taste, many fans will no doubt be thrilled to hear that the wait is nearly over for the last game in the trilogy, Zero Time Dilemma.
It was recently announced at GDC that Zero Time Dilemma will be launching on 28th June in both North America and Europe. Interestingly enough, it will be receiving both a physical and digital release in North America, but only a digital release in Europe. No reason for this was given, but it may prove to be irksome to collectors that reside in Europe. Zero Time Dilemma will be taking place in between the previous two games, chronologically, and it won't require players to have played the previous two games to understand what's going on. That being said, it will supposedly answer many questions that players may have from the first two games.
What do you think? Will you be picking this up? What did you think of the previous games in the series? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and bear in mind that the following trailer has some strong language and adult themes.

Excellent news! Was really worried Europe wouldn't get it at all.
Good news.
OMG WOW! I didn't expect it so soon! That's like, almost nothing. Three and a half months. Less. Piece of cake. No problem...
Anyone know of a way to hibernate that's safe and won't cause me to get fired?
@Tsurii Can't you make an exception?
Of course it's only digital in Europe, why did I even assume it'd be physical here at all?
So soon? Amazing news!
Can't believe this trilogy passed from "We'll never know the ending" to such a close release in a matter of very few years, sometimes the system works!
So not physical for PS vita in Europe? Looks like I'll be importing that American box over here then good thing the Vita is region free! Kind disappointed it's set in between was hoping it'd be a sequel but I'll proabaly be proven wrong and it'll end up being the best game in the franchise haha
I wonder if Europe will also get deprived of the voice dubbing, as was the case with the previous game?
@DoctorOverbuild It IS a sequel. It's SET between the games. Remember that VLR ends with half the cast jumping through time into the past?
wow, so close already! Nice.
That being said wow, that cover image is really almost off-putting. I know it's a mature game but that kinda feels "mature" just for the sake of it. I got into the series for its mystery and story telling, not shock factor. (part of the story telling sure but not the main draw).
Well either way I need to know how it all ends, I just hope it doesn't try to be too, what, "edgy?". Or I guess just "tryhard".
Day 1 purchase for me, though I'd prefer to get the physical edition in Europe.
I have the US PS Vita special edition preordered so I can get that watch, so I'll have to decide whether to buy a Vita or just buy an EU version of this game as well.
You can choose Japanese or English voice acting. Japanese trailer also confirms Steam release, though it doesn't have a release date yet. There's also new artwork:
So europe gets physical copies for the first two games then digital only for the last, great.
@Morph: Actually, Europe never got 999. It had to be imported from US.
@Late Quite right you are! I forgot I picked it up in america back in the ds days without region locking. Pity it's not quite so simple now.
@Noelemahc Oh you're right there's so many endings I forgot! Oh I'm very excited now thanks for that!
Ugggh no boxed European version....
So excited!
Not too bothered about the digital-only European release, as Askys seem to understand what makes a sensible digital price - VLR is only £24.99 on eShop I believe.
I'm so glad I now have a way to import the US release and actually get past the region locking. It's been my intention to fully support the game from the start, but digital-only felt too bad. As soon as I get the chance, I'm preordering my copy.
Also, like others, I can't quite believe it's almost here. My hype is unreal.
got my copy preordered. can't wait to play this game.
I hope there is an option to choose Japanese voice acting. Or better, mute the voices.
No retail release? This suck, I hope I still have some room on my SD card... :/ Or may wait to see if this will be compatibile with PSTV.
@KTT: Dual audio is confirmed by Uchikoshi.
Ugh. I hate digital only.
Digital only in Europe?
Bloody region locking.
@Late Amazing. Thanks for the info.
I hate paying full price for digital games. Not sure if i should just make an exception this time though.
And there goes my possible purchase.
@Zanark it probably won't be full price, VLR wasn't I don't think and neither was Ace Attorney Dual Destinies despite the fact both had more than enough content to justify a much higher price tag. I don't mind this at all, as going back a year or two to when I finished VLR the series was MIA so I am A-OK with this caveat for the finale to exist.
@TheLastLugia Pretty certain VLR was 40 euros on the europe eshop before they later dropped the price. And yes i hope they price the digital game reasonably(even just 30 euros would probably make me bite day 1 )
I will buy it since I have got both other games but this is another punch in the face, whats wrong with bringing it out physical as well?
While I would have bought it at release for full price I will wait until there is a huge discount to be had on the eshop - I never pay full for digital as I am getting much less.
@Noelemahc spoiler alert
@Late Thanks for mentioning this, I thought I'd heard so but I wasn't sure.
Europe market is like 10 different countries with ten different boxes to make because each one has its own rating logo. It costs a lot of money for a small publisher who is not sure his game will be profitable.
All of this sounds a lot like Saw to me. Meh...
This game looks incredible. I just can't wait! June is going to be an amazing month.
Preferred the artwork of the earlier games, but I'll definitely be getting it on day one.
Digital only is a bit of downer, but can understand why. Let's hope digital prices can become as competitive as physical in the EU.
My condolences to physical game collectors in Europe, BTW. It sucks this isn't getting a physical release worldwide.
*creams pants
@Noelemahc spoilers! O.o
I just realized this, but on a visual level, and in terms of how the story will be presented (little to no text in favor of a fully real-time, more cinematic approach to storytelling), this reminds me a lot of a Telltale game.
@Tsurii Same here. Might still import it, since I have 80 euros left for nothing -_-
Everything is great for 3DS owners here...
After Popolocrois, this...
And a minute ago, my games shop refused me a Fire Emblem full edition, after telling me monday to not call again before thursday. -_-
Here's some more information about the game:

And here's an interview: https://www.facebook.com/operationbluebirdze3/posts/1024948114210916
@Noelemahc If the reason for the lack of English dubbing in Europe was that they wanted to fit the game on a 4 gigabit cartridge (American release is 8 gigabit), then there's a higher change of the dub being included now with the eShop only release.
I guess I better go pre order huh? June 28th can't come soon enough.
I'm so happy to hear Europeans get the whole game this time around and English voice acting is included. Omitting it from the European release of VLR put me off the game for a good while and I only got it on sale – else I would've snatched it at release.
@Peach64 or worst wait longer after USA.
@Tsurii oh! Well can't wait to play the game in a few months time.
@LemonSlice plus it's dub well it's not great dub but beats reading. Lol
@bitleman hmm that's make sense but annoying all the same
AH. YES. OH LORD. Thank you. We scraped the physical version in. I expected it to be here in more like October or something, but now the day before my BIRTHDAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!
These game always made me think of the Saw movie series, even though it's not torturous in the same sense. If anyone's planning on getting this and is new I really recommend playing 999 & VLR first, you'll learn so much about what's going on. It'll probably be very valuable information with this game and have a bigger impact if you're aware of what's going on in old games.
yaaay so excited for the cutscenes to all be animated big time unlike the previous of talking heads, which worked but i like this better.
SO MUCH HYPE!!
So GLaD a physical release is heading to NA as well, allowing my to have the entire trilogy in my collection.
I love this series, but Europe not having a physical copy means i'll be picking this game up in a sale. I refuse to pay full price for a digital only game.
@AishiVeen VLR had a great dub from the little I heard. Plus the Japanese voices would rarely match the text that just appeared on screen (the text was a direct transcription of the dubbed voiceovers), making the whole thing a bit awkward. (but still awesome of course!)
Will be getting a copy for both 3DS and Vita.
@LemonSlice the reason was because a different publisher released the game in Europe and they could only secure the text translation, not the dub. Not that I'm complaining, given the choice, I probably would have still played it in Japanese.
@Noelemahc Given the choice I wouldn't because a)the dub is excellent and b)it isn't a proper sub
I hate digital only releases :[
I was planning on getting the physical copy, but I guess I don't have a choice. I will still be getting this game though!
Is this still digital only in Europe?! And, can I play the US version if i import it?!
