Re: Nintendo Download: 18th June (North America)

CaviarMeths

@ThomasBW84 Quick suggestion here, the Canadian dollar has grown notably weaker than the American dollar in the last couple of years and eShop prices no longer have parity. Canadian prices are typically up to $10 more for full retail games. I'm not sure if there's anyone on NL staff that has access to the Canadian eShop to get prices, but it would be helpful if possible.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS XL Back On Top In Japan As Wii U Leads Home Console Sales

And Splatoon supply is still constrained. It could be at 500k sold by the end of the summer, an unexpectedly strong result in a country where console gaming is dying.

Yokai Watch 2 and Pokemon ORAS still neck and neck for sales. GameFreak is really going to have to shake up the formula next time to maintain its lead in the genre.

Vita software sales are a little sad. Wish they were doing better. I don't want it to be Sony's last handheld, though it's really starting to look that way.

And at least new Xbox One owners can save money by all carpooling to work every day.

Ubisoft is about the only major western publisher that could announce something that I actually want to play, but I really don't count on being surprised. Child of Light sequel or successor would be groovy, maybe it's happening. Who would have thought though that in 2015, The Last Guardian actually has a better chance of making an appearance at E3 than Beyond Good & Evil 2?

Re: Splatoon Grabs Fifth Place in NPD Results as amiibo Leads Toys-to-Life Sales

CaviarMeths

@rjejr I disagree. Wii U is selling terribly, yes, but I don't think a price cut is going to help. I think it's pretty clear that Nintendo needs to keep the price at $300 and just ride out the rest of the generation. They're not going to gain much momentum in hardware at this point. Better to just sell as much software to the established user base as they can and keep expanding their market outside of video games (amiibo, theme park, possible TV, etc).

Re: Splatoon Holds Onto Top 5 Territory in the UK Charts

CaviarMeths

Great hold. It also debuted well in Germany and France, which are probably its strongest European markets. With expectations in check and knowing that success is relative, I think Splatoon is doing pretty well. If this game can manage a million sales this year, maybe 2 million LTD, I'm sure Nintendo will consider its "garage developer" experiment a success and we'll see more of it. Good things ahead.

Also, Steins;Gate made it into the UK chart! Very happy to see that.

Re: Splatoon Storms to Top Spot in Japanese Charts With Six Figure Sales

CaviarMeths

Very impressive debut, considering the supply shortages. Probably a soft drop next week too, as people who couldn't snag a copy over the weekend will get one as the new shipment comes in. Then there's the content roll out over the summer. I can see it being decently leggy. Good!

Hardware sales continue to be depressing for all systems, but I guess Nintendo has to take this as a win. Comparable to the bump last year for Mario Kart and fairly stable YTD.

Re: Splatoon Grabs Second Place in UK Chart Début

CaviarMeths

It's good in context for sure, considering that the UK is one of the weakest territories for Nintendo. I was hoping for a little more, but this is a good start, especially if the game has legs, which I imagine it will.

In related news, it's apparently doing very well in Japan. It's sold out everywhere, and that's even with rumours of extra shipments over the weekend.

Re: Exclusive: Slightly Mad Studio Head Ian Bell Sets The Record Straight On Project CARS Wii U

CaviarMeths

The Wii U's launch line up was filled with a bunch of last gen ports and that played a big part in murdering interest in the platform. It would be a mistake to repeat that. Interest in games like this is incredibly fleeting. People will never again care about this game as much as they do right now. Whatever chance this game had in getting the attention of Nintendo fans will have vanished by the time the NX is out.

Re: Wii U and 3DS Continue Improved Sales in the US, as Xenoblade Chronicles 3D Misses NPD Top 10

CaviarMeths

@Peach64 43k doesn't tell us why the Wii U isn't getting Bloodstained. It's an indie game, which a) don't sell systems and therefore rely on installed base and b) eShop users have been decently receptive to. There's 10 million Wii U owners, many of which would gladly support the game if they could. I'll even go as far as to say that it would sell better on Wii U than it will on Xbox One.

It's all an issue with the engine used to develop the game. If UE4 supported Wii U, then of course Wii U would be getting the game too. And at the rate that Bloodstained is smashing through stretch goals, it's only a matter of time before a port is in the works anyway.

Don't let your uncontainable excitement for taking a dump all over Nintendo's financial straits cloud your judgement.
