Indie developer Neko.Works has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming Wii U eShop JRPG, Project Light.
Inspired by "mid '90s classics" such as Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII and Secret of Mana, Project Light takes place in a cyberpunk-style city ruled over by an evil empire.
The main protagonist teams up with a mysterious white-haired girl and the pair explore a fantasy world packed with the usual assortment of monsters and beasts. Combat is turn-based but takes place seamlessly, with no need for the game engine to transition to a battle mode.
Project Light is being built in Unity, and is neko.works' second title, following the Hang On-inspired PS Vita game Night Riders. It's coming to the Wii U as well as other consoles - a PC and mobile release are also happening. Have a look at the trailer and let us know your thoughts.

Looks awesome, I like R.P.Gs
You had me at cyberpunk! Been wanting more of that since playing Shadowrun dragonfall.
I'll look into buying this after I finish FF VI, FF VII, FF IX, Tales Of The Abyss, Tales Of Xilla, Bravely Default, Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5, KH 3D: Dream Drop Distance and Pokemon A.S before I consider another R.P.G.
Whoa, that came out of nowhere! And it looks absolutely awesome to boot.
One more title to my watchlist, it seems.
The music is very nice to listen to, I wonder what the other tracks are going to be like?
And you guys thought a remake of FFVII using real-time graphics instead of prerendered, but in the same artistic style, would be impossible... I mean just LOOK at this!
@CreativeWelshman Good luck on all those. FFVIII isn't bad either.
The visuals remember and scenery remind me a lot of xenoblade chronicles and bravely default
@CloudNine
I hated number 8 for the gameplay, too much grinding with awful junction system and I got into an argument with some guy on Twitter who that 8 had the best gameplay ever and that 13 sucked because it was FF 13.
@CreativeWelshman Yeah, I can't argue with you on all it's problems. For some reason though, I found something charming about parts of it
@CloudNine
And for the record 13 was not as bad as everyone made it out to be like, seeing as it was the only J.R.P.G on the 360 that sold 1M copies I guess it was the C.O.D fanboys who bought it not knowing what an J.R.P.G was to begin with.
@CreativeWelshman JRPGs really aren't for everyone, and I can see how what you mentioned could have hurt it.
It looks like this is going to be a series with that Episode I title at the end. Hopefully, we'll see something else about it at E3.
@CloudNine
If I had to recommend an FF game to start with then I would choose FF IX seeing as it's very simple to get into and it has one of the most enjoyable soundtracks ever made aside from Sonic The Hedgehog.
@CreativeWelshman I've never played 9. Maybe I'll look into it.
reminds me of bravely default but more creepy
looks interesting might have to check this one out
@CloudNine
I've only played FF VI, FF VII, FF VIII, FF IX, FF X, FF X-2, FF XII, FF XIII, FF XIII-2, FF XIII Lighting's Return, FF Crystal Chronicles (Wii) and I own a copy of The Four Heroes Of Light. I never got to play FF III (DS) the cartridge was faulty and it was second hand as well so go figure.
Sigh Soon, Steampunk. You will shine above all.
@EverythingAmiibo
Okay you go and came up with something original for us to destroy critically while you blast us for not understanding your creative vision. Go on I'll be waiting.
@CreativeWelshman I've only played about 4 main series final fantasy games. I wish square would release some sort of JRPG on the wii u, but I doubt that would happen
Though the footage is very early, I can't wait to try this! Looks absolutely excellent.
Looks good. Although we've still seen hardly anything, looks like a while off!
Looks really good, but dose this hase to be an episodical format? .... I really don't like stuff like that ... but if the price is right, I might take the jump this time ^^
@CreativeWelshman Nah, I'll just stick with criticising others. Your profile picture sucks. wow, so much offense, it's so crazy you just HAVE to reply back with an equally crappy insult! And I will totally not ignore you!
This game feels right. Except for the part it starts on Windows XP.
JRPG? Steampunk? Turnbased? I'm hyped
The music was good. I wonder if they'll release a CD...
@CloudNine Do that. It's a beautiful game.
@Pixel-Perfect Is it a little underrated? I don't really here a lot of people talk about it.
@CloudNine Back when I was really into Final Fantasy and frequented the forums and such, I always noticed that it depends on where you go. Some groups never talk about it 'cause they're into the scifi entries like VII and VIII and others won't shut up about it.
I will say that FFIX is my favorite non-Pokémon game of all time.
@Pixel-Perfect That's pretty big praise. Looks like I'll have to check it out now!
Visually it looks amazing, and if that music is anything to go by then it'll be a treat for both your eyes and ears. Let's hope the actual gameplay is just as slick.
......wow. I cant wait.......
I wanna learn to play that song.
I am in!
Instant intrigue, here.
I'm intrigued by this, I have to say
I'll bite. Need to start on Grinsia though first... So much backlog...
Surely not the same Neko Works that made that catgirl eroge game on Steam...
An RPG with an in game chibi art style and turn based combat that is transitioned to seamlessly. This game is going after my heart.
I enjoyed the sneak peak the trailer provides and all the details offered about Project Light has me excited. I shall eagerly anticipate this one.
The music reminded me of Mana, for sure.

Well, this looks amazing...
More info please! I'm very interested.
Doesn't look bad.
