Re: First Impressions: Piczle Lines DX is Another Reminder of the Switch Hybrid's Appeal

CaviarMeths

Decided to take the plunge and pick it up. Spent about an hour with it this afternoon and had a pretty good time. Nice little puzzle game for fans of Picross and Sudoku. Price point seems pretty fair for the amount of content included in the package. Won't stop it from getting poo-pooed for the simple fact of being a mobile port anyway. Looks like the "if it's more than $0.99, I'm not paying for it!" mentality of mobile games carries over to console ports too.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes Launches at Number One in Japan, But With Sales a Long Way Behind Predecessors

@Donutman Perhaps you missed that I was paraphrasing the developer's own comments: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/07/the_legend_of_zelda_tri_force_heroes_director_defends_absence_of_female_playable_characters

He literally says that you can't play as a girl because Link is a hero, and so naturally, you can only play as a boy. He seems confused at the mere thought that a hero could be a girl.

Re: Review: Slender: The Arrival (Wii U eShop)

CaviarMeths

This game seems like just the right amount of Spooky for me, but my main concern is the frustrating bits you mention in the review. That's the kind of stuff that can really just ruin the atmosphere for me entirely. I like to be scared, I don't like to be frustrated.

Re: Analysts Wonder If Super Mario Can Save Nintendo

CaviarMeths

Well, they're right on both points. A) Nothing is saving the Wii U at this point and B) Mario will translate well to mobile.

But I mean, that's just stating the obvious. Not sure what investors, shareholders, or Nintendo themselves would do with this information that isn't already in motion. But that's the kind of information that industry analysts offer for free. We like to poke fun at Pachter, but it's easy to forget that it's not his career to say dumb or obvious things about Nintendo on the internet.

Re: Dragon Quest VIII Storms to Number One in Japan and Boosts New 3DS Sales

CaviarMeths

So nice that Wii U and PS4 hardware are both up year over year. By the end of the year, 3DS should also be over 20 million lifetime.

And yeah, 3DS software is just massacring everything else. Only real exception is Splatoon, the Wii U game that's selling like a 3DS game. It's over 700k now including digital. It's now ahead of Smash, launch aligned, and will pass Mario Kart in a few weeks too.

Re: Review: SENRAN KAGURA 2: Deep Crimson (3DS)

CaviarMeths

Not right now, because I'm too busy playing a game about mowing down hundreds of people with a machine gun, blood and body parts flying every which way, but soon I'll do a big write up on why anybody who plays games with panties in them is immoral and disgusting and shameful.

Re: Mighty No. 9 Delayed Until Early 2016

CaviarMeths

MN9 was never redesigned visually. It just didn't match the concept art, which happens all the time in games. See my avatar to the left (Impa concept art for Hyrule Warriors).

But yeah, Comcept and Inafune have been piling on the shadiness. They outright denied the rumours of delay a few weeks ago. Then today they posted on the backer forums that they were "too busy with Red Ash" to announce the delay. A lie. They just didn't want the news out while the Red Ash kickstarter was still going. Inafune also claimed twice, once in January and again in the Red Ash pitch video, that development of MN9 had come to a close and they were moving into the promotional stage. Bold-face lies again.

Really makes you wonder with the timing of Red Ash if their intent was really to funnel money from that project into finishing MN9. Lord knows asking for money for MN9 a third time was out of the question.

Re: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Dominates Japanese Charts, Boosts 3DS Sales

CaviarMeths

Happy Home Designer is barely lower than AC4's debut, a main series entry and first on the 3DS. That's insane for a spin-off. Also a healthy bump for 3DS, probably people upgrading to the LL model for built in NFC.

And Splatoon just refuses to quit. It's outpacing Mario Kart 8 and should get a big boost in coming weeks due to Obon. It might even hit a million this year in Japan, depending on how the holidays look.

Wii U and PS4 still up year over year, which everyone should be happy about.

Re: Yo-Kai Watch Busters and 3DS Continue to Rule in Japan

CaviarMeths

And with that, Wii U is up year over year in Japan. Splatoon has moved more hardware than Mario Kart 8. PS4 is now up YoY too. Small victories, take 'em where you can. PS3 and Vita of course way down YoY though.

Interesting about Splatoon - when you align it with Mario Kart 8 sales, Splatoon is outpacing it, and the gap is widening.

Re: Nintendo Wins Patent Case Against Handhelds

CaviarMeths

The American patent system is in dire need of an overhaul. It's ridiculous that you can patent broad ideas without even having intention of ever bringing a product to market.

Also, the patent in question was granted to Quintal in 2008. You may recognize this as a date that is long after both the GBA and DS were released.

Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Passes Away Aged 55

CaviarMeths

This is really hitting me hard. What I'm passionate about and what Mr. Iwata was passionate about were the same things. The way he interacted with his audience was incredibly endearing. This doesn't feel like a CEO of some multibillion dollar company passing away. It feels like I've lost a friend.

Re: Yoshi's Woolly World Cuddles Up to Fourth Spot in the UK Charts

CaviarMeths

@FX102A It's been years since I played, but wasn't it like that in Yoshi's Island too? I seem to recall endless fluttering, though you would drop a little more every time.

It's not really an issue when levels are designed around that mechanic though. No amount of fluttering will get you over a hole that the developers don't want you to get over.

Re: Yoshi's Woolly World Cuddles Up to Fourth Spot in the UK Charts

CaviarMeths

Non-Nintendo, but it's being reported that Batman on PS4 outsold the XB1 version 2:1. That's pretty significant in a country where the installed bases are actually pretty close. #1 opening of the year so far, too.

The list I'm looking at puts Splatoon at #13 for single SKU though. Probably still in the top 10 for combined.

Oh, and it rose in France to become the top selling game of the week again.
