Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Bayonetta 3

@jrt87 meh, condescend all you like, but I truly don't care whether it's above 30, I just don't like it under. But even saying that, I still put hundreds of joyful hours into SMT5, DQ11, and BOTW with very little complaint despite those all being criticized for performance and/or resolution issues.

Re: Koumajou Remilia II Brings More Castlevania Inspired Gameplay To Switch

BeefSanta

@Pillowpants not really. It's not even a Metroidvania, if that's what you're looking for. It's about an hour long game with some straightforward kinda CV platforming levels, each ending with bullet hell inspired boss. It's just okay (the music is great).

I recommend Touhou Luna Nights or the Lodoss War Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth. Those are two phenomenal, satisfying games.

Re: Poll: So, How Do You Pronounce 'Live A Live'?

BeefSanta

as others have stated, the official japanese title ライブ・ア・ライブ is undeniably the first option, however, the poll's question is how to i pronounce it (not what is the "correct" pronunciation) so I go with the second option, because it doesn't sound idiotic in english lmao

Re: Dragon Quest X Offline Gets New Japanese Launch Date, Still No Western Release

BeefSanta

@LittleGhost bro, I'd play this (sort of again) in a heartbeat if it got a Western release. lmao I'm not complaining about its dated-ness (as I've said before, I've played a bunch of the online version in Japanese), I'm saying it being dated is part of why it won't come to the west: I don't think SE believes it will appeal to enough Westerners to turn a profit off the huge amount of work in localizing that people here keep brushing off. That's all I'm saying. Don't forget that SE never brough the 3DS DQ11 to the West, and if anything, at this point DQ10 looks kinda like a 3DS game on a console. And while they do a lot of remasters/ports, **most** of them already had English translations or were much less text-heavy than something like DQ10. In fact, I'd say almost all their remasters/ports combined might approach the amount of text in DQ10 and its expansions lol

Re: Dragon Quest X Offline Gets New Japanese Launch Date, Still No Western Release

BeefSanta

@moodycat I don't doubt that SE could afford the localization. But I truly think you overestimate the hypothetical potential sales figures for a game this old and dated.

@Tyranexx but we don't know what "condensed" means. I've been reading all the Japanese news posts I can find and it's still unclear. Depending on how many expansions they include, I think you underestimate the volumes of text there is. And localizing to English isn't enough these days. How many languages was DQ11 translated into? We're talking big time sales needed. DQ11 did great in the west, which is fantastic, but that doesn't mean the very dated predecessor with a far-from-big budget look and feel will do anywhere near as well.

Re: Dragon Quest X Offline Gets New Japanese Launch Date, Still No Western Release

BeefSanta

@moodycat

The other problem is this game and its expansions combined has more text to translate than three DQ11s. And it's a decade old game that doesn't have the big, luxurious AAA aesthetic of 11. I honestly don't think it truly has much appeal to anyone who isn't already a huge Dragon Quest fan. And this is coming from someone who is a big diaper-wearing DQ fanboy who has played a considerable amount of DQX in Japanese. It would be a huuuuuge investment to localize this one into multiple languages for western markets when the chances of substantial profit for the most niche entry in the series is smaller than people seem to want to believe.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 11th)

BeefSanta

I'm not enjoying Souldiers as much as I had hoped. The load times are shocking and the controls aren't quite tight enough. But it's still alright, I guess. I don't hate it, and it's certainly beautiful looking.

Lost Ruins, on the other hand, is great so far. It just needs more music. Otherwise, chef's kiss.
