JanduSoft Games has announced Astronite, a Metroidvania with heavy Gato Roboto vibes, coming to Switch this October. No firm release date has been set at the time of writing, however we do have confirmation that a physical edition of the game will also be launched alongside the digital version.
The game will be a classic take on the Metroidvania genre, with collectible items, various zones, and fearsome bosses all featuring throughout. Here's some more info on Astronite to give you a flavour:
Take control of the brave explorer Astronite and explore a huge map with different zones full of hidden secrets, enemies, and big bosses. Recover the planet and restore it back to civilisation before it was invaded by strange creatures! Explore an uncharted planet with the help of your skills…
Shoot, jump, or use the ‘dash’ or ‘fly’ manoeuvre to overcome all the challenges and advance to the planets core. Improve your skills with permanent power-ups spread throughout the planet. Explore all the corners to find hidden paths or items that will help you in your adventure.

YES PLEASE! Gato Roboto was dripping with character and nice touches and this seems to carry that on. My only gripe with the stylish sort like this is they’re too short which was my only gripe with Gato. If this is a tad lengthier I’ll be one happy buyer. Can’t wait to give this one a go!
Gato Roboto is my favorite micro-metroidvania of all time. If this one possesses even a shred of those vibes, I'm in. Thanks for highlighting, NL!
Loved Gato, so intrigued by this.
Day one purchase for me. I really enjoyed Gato Roboto and this trailer gave me high hopes.
Loved Gato and that this has already said its having a physical count me well in.
Yeah, give me this please. I've completed 12 metroidvanias this year so far. Most have been pretty good.
@BeefSanta did you like or love (or hate?) Ender Lillies?
I keep waiting for another sale on that so I can finally buy it. My body is (finally) ready.
This game would make for a good PlayDate port if the dev ever want to go that route.
@ChromaticDracula loved ender lillies!
@BeefSanta thanks! I’m not surprised. I love everything that I’ve seen for it so I’m sure I will too. ✌️
Awesome that there's a physical copy coming.
Another Metroidvania I'm looking forward to.
Will definitely add this to my list.
In the last year I have bought Timespinner, Ender Lillies, Axiom Verge 2, Mummy Demastered, Narita Boy, Mindsieze and Infernax all physical.
Have a lot on there way.
Bought a lot digitally too, Chasm being the most recent, still yet to play Gato.
Love my Metroidvania's.
Meh. Probably another $1.99 game.
@ChromaticDracula i love metroidvanias, but was really let down by ender lillies, personally, after all the hype i read before i bought it. It ended abruptly, when i took a wrong turn, & i didn't have the desire to reload a save & keep playing to try & get my 100% ending that i was initially going for. Hope u have a better experience, but don't get ur hopes up too much.
Wasnt a huge fan of Gato Roboto. It was cute but the whole black and white chunky pixel thing didn't really service the gameplay I thought. There are so many metroidvanias coming out that to get my attention, they need to set themselves apart. This didn't have any really interesting looking combat or platforming, or story or unique mechanics. It'll be a pass unless it's universally acclaimed.
I wanted to like Gato Roboto and maybe a future playthrough would be fun now, assuming it has received patches, but when I bought it at launch on the Switch, the game had more bugs and glitches than any game I've ever played. I had the game soft lock in six uniquely different ways as well as multiple crashes and hard freezes. I literally couldn't play more than 10 minutes without running into a bug that generally resulted in rebooting the game and losing 5+ minutes of progress. After having the game crash or soft locking for the 20th time, I just uninstalled it. I did like the visuals and the concept was cute, but I couldn't believe how broken it was. And I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to bugs and crashes. The only other game that came even close to being this bad was AWAY: Journey to the Unexpected and despite the bugs and crashes, I still ended up beating the that.
@twztid13 ah crap… that’s a bummer. I had that happen to me before where you end up wandering into the endgame (ah man that’s a good album title) and then it’s too late to go back. I know you can have multiple saves but I hate having to manage and remember those and which is which.
It is very telling that you liked it enough to beat it though and got that far. Thanks!
@ChromaticDracula yes, it's not bad, it just wasn't great. The whole time i was kinda upset, thinking, "THIS is what people are thinking is so great?" I just didn't like the animation in the game, i think that was my biggest pet peeve. But it wasn't something to dislike, for sure, but just don't get ur hopes up. I played it on Xbox one & planned to finally go back once i got a series S w 60fps gameplay, but i started it up & didn't have the motivation to play it, still. But i was probably still pissed at it, lol.
