Re: Review: Wife Quest - A Bawdy Metroidvania That's Well Worth A Look

BeefSanta

Well, I bought and beat it last night. It's pretty alright. It's NOT really a metroidvania, though. It's very direct level progression. You can revisit previous stages to hunt for secrets and stuff, but that's all optional and overall the game is a very straightforward affair (which i don't mind at all). the gameplay is simple and feels good. some of the art and presentation are iffy (kinda rough MSPaint looking), and the music is very bland, but overall i had a positive experience. ymmv when it comes to the humor and dialogue — i didn't hate it, but it didn't really get any laughs out of me.

i'd DEFINITELY recommend Infernax, Aggelos, and Astalon first. then the Curse of the Moon games. then maybe this. I'd give it a B-. Certainly worth the under $10 i spent.

Re: Talking Point: How's Your Switch Holding Up After 5 Years?

My launch switch itself is totally fine. And I travel by air a few times a year (although only once in the past 2 years for obvs reasons), however, my original left joycon stopped registering any inputs on the stick. I didn't get the dreaded drift, the stick just stopped working late 2021.

Re: Where To Buy Triangle Strategy On Switch

@Mok lmao, if you read my other comments you know that's a nutso assumption as I name check several other dialogue-heavy games (that I say, again, manage to not get excessive with it). But, you know... you're right, if you like a game, that means it's automatically immune to any criticism, so please, just go enjoy the game.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Triangle Strategy On Switch

@MJA24 um, of course it's my opinion... that's how comment sections work: people post their opinions. yes, "i think" (there, i included that for you) this particular game's dialogue to gameplay ratio is excessively weighted toward wading through text boxes, as plenty other games somehow manage to accomplish as much character development, world-building, and exposition with less (see: FF Tactics).

i never said i dislike story and dialogue, i never said you aren't welcome to feel differently. in fact, all i did was ask a question--that you continue to ignore--and make a pretty decent literary joke.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Triangle Strategy On Switch

@MJA24 I notice you dodged my question. I never said long, detailed narratives are bad (Xenogears is another fave of mine, for example) — what I said, very clearly I might add, is that TS has indulged the dialogue to the point of excess. You know the meaning of the word excess, right?

Re: Where To Pre-Order Triangle Strategy On Switch

@MJA24 are you positing that there can never be "too much" dialogue? FF Tactics is in my top 3 all-time faves, and it has a fair bit of text--but it never feels particularly excessive. I found the Triangle demo excessive to the point of tedium.

If the average, wordy JRPG wants to be War and Peace, Triangle Strategy is shaping up to be Artamene ou le Grand Cyrus. (hyperbolically metaphorically speaking, natch)
