Re: The Next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Will Be Revealed During The Game Awards

Andrew5678

My personal hope is for Rayman to be announced, coinciding with a new game announcement for his series. It's kind of a pipe dream, but Nintendo and Ubisoft have worked together before, and Rayman is long overdue for some exposure. He's also their most iconic character, and there are already AC and Rabbid costumes in, so there's some presence from the company.

I've also been pining for Crash to get in with his recent revival. The de facto Playstation icon duking it out alongside gaming's best would just be so right, and he'd fit in great with the cast. It would also soft deconfirm Tracer from Overwatch getting in since Activision owns and publishes both titles, and she's literally the only character I don't want to join that has a reasonable shot of getting in. And if she does, that'll be my biggest disappointment with the DLC out of the way with 3 more newcomers to look forward to (Minmin was my 2nd biggest disappointment)

Re: Pokémon Teases 'Very Special' 25th Anniversary Celebrations For 2021

Andrew5678

Detective Pikachu 2 (probably the game and the movie), Pokemon Snap 2, and Pokemon Unite launching in the same year would fit. In terms of notable spin-offs, there's a chance that an all new Mystery Dungeon game could happen using the assets of the remake. They also have Sw/Sh's engine, so... I guess we can see the Daimond and Pearl remake? I liked Gen 4, but it always felt kind of bland to me, and I'm not sure how Gam Freak would handle a remake with new elements (Mega Evolutions, Z-Moves, and/or Dynamaxing)

For more off of the wall guesses, I'm hoping for a new Pokemon Ranger game, but since those relied on the DS' touch screen, I understand why they wouldn't want to touch that right now. Maybe a new Trading Card video game, as opposed to the online version. That one is fine, but I like to play on my own when I can, and the GB version was cool. A Pokemon Masters port for Switch would be nice. Also, maybe a new anime like Twilight Wings, or based on the manga?

Honestly, I'm just hoping for some really crazy stuff.

Re: Gallery: Game Freak Has Moved In With Nintendo, And The New Offices Look Sublime

Andrew5678

I do wonder how much direct oversight Nintendo has over Pokemon. I'm there's plenty of it already, but having an office so close to the Big N's headquarters will make it easier to do it in person. People underestimate the value of being able to directly interact with people. I hope this consolidation (this has happened with other parts of Nintendo) makes things easier for game development.

Re: Mini Review: Mad Rat Dead - A Delightful Mix Of Rhythm Action And Platforming

Andrew5678

Planning to pick this up. Had a ball with the demo, and when I finally get the game, I expect it'll be worth every penny if I'm neurotic about trying to get perfect runs. Not sure if I'll kill myself over it, while I liked the game, the spacing of how you move can feel a little wonky, and I don't think I'm going to go back to the boss battles more than once if they're anything like the demo. I want to stay in motion in this game, not bounce back and forth in a small stage waiting for the baddies to do things.

Re: Nintendo Will Remain "King" Of Japan Over The Next Years, Says Game Industry Consultant

Andrew5678

Portability in Japan is a big key to Nintendo's success. They've had the best handhelds on the market for decades, with little to no major competition. Sega and Sony could never keep up, and Microsoft has simply never cared to try.

The focus on power kind of forces the Big N's competition to go all out with a next gen console, so portability isn't possible unless there are compromises with the hardware. It'll work out for Microsoft well enough, but it feels like Sony's been losing ground in their home land because of the big push to attract western audiences. Japan's not as big a market, but it's a market nonetheless that Nintendo's going to take from them. Not sure if Microsoft can even dream of putting a dent in that either, they simply haven't been able to figure out how to cater to Japan.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 7th)

Andrew5678

I'm mainly getting into Pikmin 3 Deluxe. Starting on easy since I want to relax a bit, and want to make sure I understand how to the final boss before gong into the harder difficulties. Also, I want to make sure I don't have too many problems grabbing as many medals as I can.

I'm not feeling like making any other big commitments, and since I'm burnt out on Tetris 99, I figured Mario 35 would be perfect for some fast multiplayer rounds. Also, I got the demo for Mad Rat Dead, and might hop into that a few more times. It's a really cool rhythm platformer game by the Disgaea devs.

Re: The Origami King Is Now The Fastest-Selling Paper Mario Game Ever

Andrew5678

This game was my refuge from the stress of the real world for about a month straight, and it was a blast the whole way through, barring some minor annoyances. Beyond the tone and writing changes, I've noticed that the devs have been trying to implement puzzle solving into battles, and Origami King feels like the most successful one. As much as I'm hoping for an eventual return to the classic Paper Mario style, I REALLY hope they don't abandon the ring system. The combat system is a bit rough for regular battles, but I want to see them try taking it further, it feels like there's a lot of potential there. The boss battles were great, I only want to se how else they can expand the ring combat there too. Otherwise, the art direction, music, and writing is top notch, with a few jokes actually making me laugh out loud, a rare thing for me from a video game. I'm happy that this silly, and sometimes surreal game earned its due

Re: Looks Like We're Getting Another Pokémon App This Year

Andrew5678

Alright, Pokemon Smile 2 here we come!

Honestly, most of the apps besides Go and Masters haven't made a huge splash, but I do hope they're cross developed for Switch more, like Cafe was. I can't play Masters on my phone, and I at least want to give it a shot. Also, new merchandise for Pokemon, what a shock. Probably something like a Kubfu plushie, or key chains based on the new legendaries to tie into the DLC releases.

Re: Switch Predicted To Be Best-Selling Console This Holiday Season In The US

Andrew5678

@NEStalgia For what it's worth, saving up for a PC is really the ideal move when someone is trying to get the best graphics and performance for gaming. I'm far from advocating for the PC Master Race (no one knows that phrase was meant to mock people with that mind set) but the customization just puts it ahead of consoles by default. I also know they're not cheap, and I'm an impatient person who just wants to hop into games-I just think the graphics argument of the console wars have become kind of redundant when the Sony and Microsoft's game boxes are just outclassed by a beast no one includes in the fight :/

Re: Looks Like Pokémon Sword And Shield's Physical DLC Bundle Will Cost $90

Andrew5678

So... it's just the price of the base game and the DLC combined. Honestly, it's not a good deal for a bundle, but you're not losing more than a few cents for purchasing.

Honestly, I know why it's annoying, but one good thing about Nintendo's prices always staying the same is that I almost never feel like it was better to wait for a sale. GOTY editions stopped feeling like prestige rereleases and more like 3rd party cash grabs. Still annoying, just something I don't mind as much.

Re: Japanese Charts: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Leads A Very Nintendo-Dominated Top 10

Andrew5678

@mariomaster96 Honestly, I'm starting to just think Nintendo isn't really interested in doing complete remakes of games. The last full remake with new models and content was 64DS, they've mainly stuck with upscaled ports, like with Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time. I'd say they should look into outsourcing that to another company, but since it's Mario, it would probably require just as much oversight as it would if it were an in house project, possibly more.

Re: Minecraft's Steve Revealed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter

Andrew5678

This is actually a very nice surprise. There wasn't any character I didn't want in, but I had pretty much written off Steve months ago. Honestly, the only reason I didn't want the character in was because the visuals and animations would look kind of janky by default. Minecraft's stuck with i's blocky style forever, and never got any visual changes, though the integration isn't as off as I thought. Steve and the others still feel weird, but a bit more distinct than out of place, especially with the builder options.

Pretty fun reveal, and it'll get people talking. Minecraft's always been popular, and it's just a solid game. I'm hoping I'll get some franchises I'm into next time (I'd be down with only Nintendo characters from here on out) but this was satisfying. Just not looking forward to the salt fest that'll come up online...

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter To Be Revealed Tomorrow, 1st October

Andrew5678

I'm hoping it's Paper Mario. Almost finished up with Origami King, and that's just one gam that gives him a lot of fighter potential. Having some of his abilities from the old games, or something new like the 1,000 fold arms would be awesome. Plus, that games music would be a wonderful addition to Smash' soundtrack.

Rayman would be cool too, since he would fit so well with the other characters.

No real guess as to who it could be. To be honest, I'm more concerned with Nintendo's work schedule getting back on track since I know they're more used to working in person with each other. My main pick was deconfirmed, and since I only hav two characters I actively do not want in Smash, I'll be happy either way.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 19th)

Andrew5678

Paper Mario: Origami King is in my cross hairs. I'm a good ways into the fifth world, and having a ball. Planning to backtrack for the collectibls near the end, but I also want to make sure I don't rush through everything. I'm ready to finish up, but I want to make sure I have fun

Got my 2DS back after repairs a while ago, and I'm finally getting back into grinding through the backlog. I'm enjoying Picross 3D 2, and the new use of coloring blocks adds more depth than I expected. A solid sequel. Just need to avoid getting obsessive about finishing puzzles again XD

Getting my shipment of 3D All Stars soon, so I'll probably hop into Sunshine first when I get it. Loved that game as a kid, and I want to see how it feels after all this time. I also want to check if I've got nostalgia goggles for it, especially since I never got around to trying to 100% it.

Re: EA Is Considering Bringing EA Play And "More Great Experiences" To Switch

Andrew5678

Switch has been out for four years, and EA's still 'considering' pushing more of their games instead of doing it. Not that I mind a company like them actively ignoring a potential market, but the abject terror devs hav of really investing in a successful Nintendo console is aggravating. At least port stylized games like Plants vs Zombies or the first Unravel to Switch, those would resonate with the fans, and the former would have some mainstream appeal.

Re: Sega Reveals Sonic's 30th Anniversary Logo, Will Share Additional Plans "In The Coming Months"

Andrew5678

Sonic's due for a new mainline game, but that's obvious. Not expecting a lot of spin-offs, so some rereleases would be nice. Adventure 1 & 2, Colors, and maybe some obscure titles like some remastered handheld games. The Sonic Advanced Trilogy and the Rush series come to mind. Fun fact regarding the Rush series; despite sharing the name of the Wii game, the DS version of colors plays more along the lines of a 3rd Rush entry, so they could technically make that another trilogy. Also, it's flawed, but I'd love an Unleashed port with a better frame rate.

Obviously there will be merch, the main thing I'm wondering is if there might be a comic tie-in to celebrate.

Re: It's Not Out Yet, But Super Mario 3D All-Stars Is Already 2020's Second Best-Selling Game On Amazon

Andrew5678

TBH, I was kind of worried that this collection would actually sell out fast. Glad to see that there aren't stock issues yet because of scalpers. My experience with amiibo taught me how there's always a massive rush to grab all of the copies you can the second people can purchase them, and if people didn't understand it from the trailer, they'd know and have flocked to grab a few copies. These will definitely be collector's items in the future, but we're not going to see people struggling to grab them right now.

EDIT: I called it the 3D All-Stars collection 'game', but went with just 'collection' to make it distinct from other announcements.

Re: Super Mario 3D World On Switch Appears To Be A Lot Faster Than The Wii U Original

Andrew5678

@Paddle1 I think I'd add Pikmin 3 to the list. It was technically added in an update, but I shocked by how much I enjoyed playing the game with the Wii U game pad. Keeping the stylus attacked to the screen regularly, and having the targeting system work the way it did game me the game play of using a a screen without constantly breaking away from the TV. Makes me wish more Wii U games functioned like that.

Re: Pokémon GO Players Call For Niantic To Disclose Loot Box Odds

Andrew5678

No reason not to. I've never spent a cent on Pokemon Go, and TBH, that's been more loose with what it gives away recently with the lockdowns. I know people do though, so it's fair to ask about how worthwhile it is to put money on the table.

Spending money in the game never really felt worthwhile because it still feels like what you catch is heavily limited to what Pokemon is on rotation for the day. I might do it sometime since I've had a good time overall with Go, but I've never felt particularly pressured to do it.

Re: Pokémon-Like Nexomon: Extinction Will Have 381 Monsters, And (Almost) All Have Now Been Revealed

Andrew5678

I'm still stuck on the devs copying Gen 3-5's over world. Of all of the things you wanted to rip-off, you choose the last thing casual audiences think of when they're nostalgic??? That just feels lazy

Honestly, I think it's a mixed bag. Some designs feel a bit too on the nose with what they're trying to portray. I don't know, I'm not feeling a lot of them, but I can't say it's a bad line up overall. I think the names are the real problem. I don't know what it is, but a lot of them are just weird and don't stick in my head. Honestly, I'm not a massive fan of monster collectors in general, so I'll probably stick with Pokemon anyway.

'Something, something, competition', but can the competition not blatantly copy the main competitor? No wonder Pokemon doesn't change as much as people like, no one does anything different, and the few that do (Digimon, Yokai Watch, Monster Rancher, Spectrobes) are ignored and forgotten, even among dedicated gamers.

Re: Paper Mario: The Origami King Version 1.0.1 Now Available - Fixes Game-Breaking Bug And Multiple Other Issues

Andrew5678

I'm surprised that these made it through to release. Nintendo games are never glitch-free, but the bugs are usually harder to find, and rarely game breaking. I wonder if the lockdowns might have screwed of some of the last minute development :/

Whatever the case, I'm done with Bug Fables, and itching to hop into a new adventure-time to finally play Origami King while I prep for Pikmin 3 Deluxe!

Re: Platinum Says It's Still Interested In Developing A Wonderful 101 Sequel

Andrew5678

Would the sequel be multiplat, or would it be a Switch exclusive? I think W101 is their game now, but Platinum needed to crowd fund the game because no one would publish it, and Nintendo was polite and basically said "You want the IP? You fund it." I feel like crowdfunding for a full fledged game would put Platinum in way over their heads, and Nintendo seems to be the only company interested in publishing the title.

Re: Review: Crysis Remastered - A Technical Miracle And One Of The Best Shooters On Switch

Andrew5678

I thought the devs were just really happy to get a good looking shooter on Switch when it came to emphasizing the graphics of this gam. Learning the history of it, it really puts into perspective how impressive it is that a game which hampered the high-end PC's of its time can run on a tablet.

This is going onto my 'To Buy' list. I'll be finished up with Bug Fables soon, and I've been antsy about finally playing Paper Mario (and avoiding that game breaking glitch mentioned everywhere). I'm not into shooters much, but this and Doom sound like a wonderful time.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 25th)

Andrew5678

I need a break from Bug Fables. I beat the game, and I want to finish it, but to be frank, it's just some tedious achievements and probably a few final bosses that are going to be painfully difficult. I'll need to grab a ton of items to properly cheese them.

I planned to grab Paper Mario, but I'm nervous about locking my game up with the bug. I'm sure a fix is coming, so if I grab it, I'll just make sure not to rush to the late game. Otherwise, I kind of want to get into Splatoon 2 again with the Spaltfest happening.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

Andrew5678

In my memory, it's probably 2016. On the Wii U front, the system was on a game drought, with Star Fox Zero hampering the Big N' reputation, with only Paper Mario: Color Splash to end on. The 3DS was also on a big game drought too, and Pokemon Sun/Moon was kind of the only highlight from that year. Federation Force was also a big controversy in itself, and an example of why you should make sure core audiences are satisfied BEFORE making spin-offs. There was also the issue of Breath of the Wild getting delayed on Wii U for a simultaneous Switch release. Up until that point, it felt like there wasn't much, if anything, that Nintendo had to offer. It was seriously grim, and that's coming from someone who got really involved in video games during the Wii U era.

2015 had its own share of problems, and the disappointment from that era's probably carrying over into my memories of 2016. The reason I'd say it's not the worst is because of Splatoon alone, and Code Name STEAM with got me through some long car rides.

As for 2020, I'm still convinced that things would have been better if the lockdowns didn't occur, then we would have had better communication. The first major releases for this year were Animal Crossing and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon at the start and end of March, respectively. April was quiet, and May was too until Xenoblade Chronicles popped up. June had Clubhouse Games, and the Smash and Pokemon DLC, and July has Paper Mario. There have been some notable 3rd party releases like Spongebob, Ninjala, and Crysis, and some notable indies. It's far from the worst year, but the lack of communication reminds me of when Nintendo hasn't had anything to show, like before the Switch launch. I'm sure they're skittish after the lockdowns, but it would have helped just to talk to people more about it instead of being quiet and letting people guess.

Re: Metacritic Implements 36-Hour Delay On User Reviews, To Ensure "Gamers Have Time To Play"

Andrew5678

There needs to be a way to verify that someone has played the game, played a good amount of it, and are willing to go into detail about it. These aren't easy to do, but until it happens, people are better off ignoring Metacritic and just trying to find reviewers with similar tastes as them. The site is useless until it can do something about idiots spamming 0's and 10's for the sake of it because they're knee-jerking over what the internet generally says. Nothing stops people from putting high or low scores down out of spite. Astral Chain for one was DEFINITELY review bombed without any good reason or remotely controversial reasons-it was brand loyalty from Sony fans. As far as I can tell, there's no reason for something like that not to happen again unless someone is actively monitoring reviews and getting rid of junk ones, and that has problems too, if only because they'd focus on negative reviews over positive ones.

Seriously, just forget this stupid site until they team up with actual companies that figure out a way to cut through internet outrage-from all sources.

Re: Pokémon-Like Nexomon: Extinction Shows Off Three Of The Game's Regions

Andrew5678

The art style still feels a bit too reminiscent of Pokemon, but I do like the look of them. At the same time, I still can't stand the over world of this game, it just looks way too similar to old school Pokemon titles. I understand being inspired by the monsters in Pokemon, but they could have chosen a more original art style for the world people would be traveling through.

Re: WayForward's New Switch Game Is Bakugan Champions Of Vestroia, Coming In November

Andrew5678

@muscpt Yeah, I was never exactly into Bakugan, and I don't watch TV, but there seems to be an audience. I just hope Wayforward can polish up the game a bit more, or they were just using an early build. Outside of just not looking interesting, it seemed kind of rough, and 3D games just aren't Wayforward's forte.

Oh well, hoping Paper Mario turns out good, and we don't have to wait too long for any more announcements. Summer's still backlog season for me.

Re: WayForward's New Switch Game Is Bakugan Champions Of Vestroia, Coming In November

Andrew5678

@muscpt The hype was mainly that it was from Wayforward, but no one had any idea what they had coming. I was looking forward to it myself, but I also mentioned that their licensed games usually aren't very good, and this is honestly pretty underwhelming. It's also a little confusing, since I didn't think Bakugan was relevant any more. I had to check online, and they apparently have another series with a second season, and Warner Brothers is publishing this, so there should be some sort of audience.
