Given that it's one of the most recognisable brands that Nintendo is associated with, it's understandable that we've seen more than one smartphone app relating to Pokémon over the years; Pokémon GO is obviously the most popular, but we've also had Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon Duel and even Pokémon Smile, an app which encourages kids to brush their teeth.
It would seem that another Pokémon-related app is on the way, and licensing magazine GB Eye has stated that it will be available sometime in Q4 2020. Sadly, there's no indication of what the app will be, so we don't know if it's going to be another game or something along the lines of Pokémon Smile.
GB Eye also says that a number of other Pokémon-related items are on the way in 2021 as The Pokémon Company marks its 25th year in business. Again, the magazine doesn't go into specifics, but it almost goes without saying that there will be plenty of merch on offer to celebrate this momentous occasion.
What would you like to see from this upcoming Pokémon app? Let us know with a comment.

Oh wow another lame mobile app that will probably become super popular because Pokemon
Aren't they referring to Pokémon Unite?
These mobile games are more visually pleasing than the mainline Game Freak games 😒
@Itachi2099 The Wii-era games were more visually appealing than SwSh. At least Let's Go had a decent art style.
I bet it'll be Pokemon Covid that teaches social distancing and mask wearing.
Ah yes, instead of new Pokémon games on Switch, let's keep on making mediocre mobile games, and port some of those mobile games onto Switch.
@HotGoomba well, it’s not like a single studio makes all the games.
However, what we need less in this world right now is Pokemon games. It’s getting worse than Fifa and COD.
Just let’s have some GREAT games here and there, now and then. Pokémon used to be an event.... not a “ugh, here we go again with this monthly rushed and basic crap”
I guess the Pokemon Duel and Pokemon Rumble Rush teams need something to do these days.
Pokémon Sleep? Haven't heard anything about it in a while.
We already know that Pokémon Sleep is coming out this year on mobile.
Alright, Pokemon Smile 2 here we come!
Honestly, most of the apps besides Go and Masters haven't made a huge splash, but I do hope they're cross developed for Switch more, like Cafe was. I can't play Masters on my phone, and I at least want to give it a shot. Also, new merchandise for Pokemon, what a shock. Probably something like a Kubfu plushie, or key chains based on the new legendaries to tie into the DLC releases.
It's funny how pokemon smile really improved the brushing of my kids teeth, he used to HATE is, now he gets angry when we skip a day of toothbrushing.
Couldn't it be about that Pokemon MOBA game?
Where. Is. Pokémon. Sleep???
It was confirmed for this year already.
Depending on what said app is, I'll check it out. I still play Pokemon Go frequently. Conversely, I dropped Pokemon Shuffle once it became more pay to win and downloaded Pokemon Cafe but never have booted it up.
A quick look in the picture above on my phone, and I thought to myself “when did the professor got those big muscles?”. Then I realized it was the fingers of a person holding the phone lol
Sheesh It's like a pokemon madness day..
“Sadly, there's no indication of what the app will be”
Has everyone forgotten about Pokémon Sleep? That’s supposed to come out 2020.
@Yhdekskymmenen Exactly.
Where is pokemon unit?
When are they going to release Pokemon Sleep? Swear they announced that like 2 years ago and haven't heard a peep since.
Not all of the mobile Pokémon games are mediocre. I actually like Magikarp Jump and Pokémon Minecraft- I mean Pokémon Quest.
Remember when we got loads of spin-offs instead of trash mobile games? Good times.
Oh look, another shallow garbage mobile app pandering to casuals with 5 second attention spans, as if the world needs more of those. Pokemon is really going for quantity over quality these days.
Really should be Pokemon Sleep, been waiting for that for ages...
First heard about it from EB Games staffer (Aus arm of GameStop) who heard it from the Nintendo Direct. Happened to be just after April Fool's (think 2019), so I honestly thought she was joking... 🤨
But I could always use better sleep, and I'm really curious about that
"Pokemon Go Plus +"... 🤩
Now, this is veering towards oversaturation. There is just too much Pokemon out there, and a lot of it is garbage smartphone crap. The reason Pokemon has endured the test of time is that the games were few and far between, and people had to wait years for a new entry. Now it seems like every few months there is a mediocre Pokemon app or "game" that is just not made for core fans. I hope that this doesn't ruin the series as it did for Level 5 and Yokai Watch.
Unpopular opinion: I actually want to play pokemon unite.
The sheer number of Pokémon spin-offs mirror that of the many Super Mario spin-offs. The only problem? Some of these spin-offs are one-offs.
Pokemon Sleep was supposed to be out this year, but there's been no mention of it since May 2019, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's been delayed, or possibly even cancelled altogether.
Seeing as it was implied to be a counterpart to Pokemon GO, and it was supposed to be accompanied by the Pokemon Plus+ device, which was to work with both games, I'd guess Niantic have something to do with the lack of news... just look at how long it's taking them to get Pokemon GO connected to Pokemon Home.
@Scraggly1 They said 2020 when they announced it, so whether they delay it or not, I think this is referencing that since it’s still scheduled for this year.
@tatchy I would play it if you can play with one person. Not sure if you can, so far it seems like you can’t. But if you can, I’ll give it a try. I’m not mad that the game exists. I’m mad it’s a ‘big game’ bigger than New Pokémon Snap
@Thorn23rd Wasn’t it May 2019? I remember the Pokémon Press Conference in which they talked about it was May 29, 2020. Not sure if it was revealed before that. But yeah, I want that.
they really dont wanna stop do they
People are already forgetting that Pokémon Sleep and Pokémon Unite have yet to launch.
