The ESA Reminds Us That E3 Will Return

I will be eager for E320 21 either way. Either the heavy amount of people lamenting the loss of consistently getting news, or the heavy amount of people still insisting that it's dead.

and honestly I don't care if it comes back I just care to be able to get the news.

It’ll probably have to be held somewhere outside the USA since no one in the United States government cares one bit about anyone but themselves or their rich donors.

I think only Sony benefits from E3 being gone. Summer Game Fest and Summer of Gaming have been poor replacements especially on the Nintendo front.

The only thing I really care about is the fact that Nintendo and Microsoft have taken about 2 months longer to show us the goods.

E3 may be dying fast, but as long as Nintendo shows up strong like they always do, Ima still get hyped as heck for it

I hope it does, I always enjoyed all the hype. But I'm not convinced it will return. Even if they intend it to - it's hard to say what the future holds.

Screw E3, I want just want a Nintendo direct!

I really liked one week chockfull of game announcements. Get in, get news, be done for a couple of months.

In my opinion that’s way more convenient than all the snippets we got all the time this summer.

Will it, though? They had companies dropping out long before people started talking about the coronavirus outside the context of China. I'd love for it to come back with that convenient burst of information at the start of each June, but I have some doubts the game industry will still take them seriously by that time next year.

I honestly have no idea why everyone wants E3 to go so bad. It's a nice time during the year to look at big announcements and yeah, sometimes they don't deliver but even for the hilarious awkward moments on stage I would like it to stay.

Todd Howard coming on stage after the abysmal Fallout 76 is permanently engraved in my mind, that's what I live for.

That’s what I was thinking. E3 was in trouble BEFORE Covid-19 was even a thing. It’ll never return to what it once was.

What if this pandemic continues into next year? We'll never know what the future will hold as we're all not scientists. Some say it will be 18 months until we get a vaccine for this virus, even longer to actually test it to see if it actually works.

There should be a spoof of the "Blame Canada" video from South Park that should be re-released to have "Blame China" instead

A year off from E3 could be a good thing to the Big 3. It'll give them more time to make better presentations for next year.

@GrandScribe Simple: put it in Canada (Vancouver especially). Saner government, speaks English, and probably a hell of a lot nicer than LA could ever be.

Hope it does and hope Sony comes back too... not just because SGF is awful (although it is ), but because of the history behind it.

This was an event that united the industry, introduced new players in style AND has great fan moments to boot. Even if it's dying for good, we might as well give it one hell of a sendoff... as such a historic event deserves nothing less.

If E3 is to survive, ESA need to wash their hands of it. The amount of doxing and personal information on 1000s of high profile developers and publishers for past two years is criminal and straight incompetent.

I dont ever want to watch that again! I just want to get the quick recap and highlights the next day without the rest of the BS cheese. I learned my lesson.

Guys, what is after paper mario? That's right: nothing. So they have to fill it with a direct... right?

Bring back the old format, with it being to tailored to journalists, shareholders, and the actual industry. Something was lost when focus shifted to the general masses. But I'm weird, I prefer numbers and charts to trailers and showfloors.

Currently as market leader Sony not involved its not looking good for E3 and its current format. PlayStation always has the biggest show and largest global audience. even during their E3 absence last year, sony still one of the most talked about publishers.

More and more publishers may stay away from the packed conference when they see Sony and Nintendo able to bring content without E3.

I've always enjoyed watching E3 every year and looked forward to seeing what each company had in-store for us, so I hope E3 sticks around for the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to want E3 gone. A dedicated, scheduled week to catch up on gaming news right from the companies, all at once is a convenient message delivery service, a way to generate hype, and a chance for the community to get together and be part of it at the same time. This year we get a dozen disjointed presentations scattered across 4 months with no cohesion to it, and a lot of companies saying little to nothing, and having to follow each company on social media or, worse, read kotaku, to find out what's going on at all.

An "ESA PSA" - Man, you guys missed an opportunity there.

E3 is too dead, so it's time for E4!
