Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 21st - 27th September, revealing that Super Mario 3D All-Stars has managed to stay in first place for a second week running.
The game sold another 63,803 physical copies in its second week on sale, ensuring that the evergreen Animal Crossing: New Horizons had to settle for second spot. Ring Fit Adventure is still performing strongly, too, in what has been another great week for Nintendo.
Nine of the top ten are on Switch this week, with PES 2021 Season Update being the only PS4 title to have its say.

Wow, looks like Nintendo are struggling.
@smoret Struggling really hard.
Kart, Splatoon 2, and Smash are feeling pretty “evergreen” right now.
Ring Fit too to be honest.
Glad to see that 3D All Stars isn't selling too crazy. I mean these games are really good and I've had a lot fun with them but I really wish nintendo would have put more effort into the port itself (especially SM64, this camera is aweful and needed to be reworked)
Maybe that way Nintendo realizes that they should put a little more effort into these things
Tempted to take this picture for granted by now - I'm actually more curious for how long the PS5 launch will manage to alter it.
Animal crossing is a beast, and it looks like Nintendo are making enough copies of Mario 3D all-stars.
Xbox One sales in Japan are really depressing ... It sells even worse than the now old 3ds.
A very weak week for software
Nothing new, Japan is currently owned by Nintendo.
New Horizons is gonna hit 6 million physical in Japan before long. Wow.
@mariomaster96 Are you sure? It’s top of that list and was the second best game sold on Amazon Of 2020 only a week after being announced. Seems to be just about scraping by..
Those 10 games look like they were available at launch or on the Wii U. Of course you're gonna have strong sales numbers when your fanbase is stuck at home with nothing to do. But damn that is weak line up. No real AAA titles, no new Mario, Zelda, Kirby, DK or Metroid games anytime soon. 👎
@Papichulo Absolutely agreed - there’s zero AAA titles in that list.
Nintendo is clearly doooomed
@andykara2003
How is Animal Crossing New Horizons not an AAA title?
@Papichulo
Yeah, you're right. When looking at a chart like this, I would hope to see real AAA titles, such as Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., Splatoon 2...
@Toy_Link apologies, just sarcasm aimed at entitled Nintendo fans. Mario Kart, Galaxy, Smash bros - all almost beyond AAA.
Finally managed to pick up Ring Fit after several months of failed lottery attempts.
It’s... a really well put together package. I’ve barely even touched the adventure, but even just the basic exercises and mini games are really well done and are keeping me busy (and tired). Hopefully can put some time into the story over the weekend.
@mariomaster96 Honestly, I'm starting to just think Nintendo isn't really interested in doing complete remakes of games. The last full remake with new models and content was 64DS, they've mainly stuck with upscaled ports, like with Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time. I'd say they should look into outsourcing that to another company, but since it's Mario, it would probably require just as much oversight as it would if it were an in house project, possibly more.
Good that TOK didnt last in the top 10 for long xD
Most amazing is that I have all games in the list except for Minecraft D:
If Nintendo looked at those numbers and then looked at Nintendo Life comments that are negative...I would expect them to be laughing all the way to the bank.
@Andrew5678
Link's Awakening came out last year.
@andykara2003 Yeah but they're not real "AAA" are they? Where's the guns? Where's the rubble? Where's the stubble? Where's the misery and death?
Those 2DS/XL(LL) numbers are pretty impressive this late in the game, what with Nintendo officially ending production.
@Andrew5678 Ocarina of Time 3D was much more than just a upscaled port, just look up a comparison between the original and the 3DS version
headline: “consumers and scalpers buy limited edition Mario game ahead of Nintendo’s artificial deadline”
@mariomaster96 You are obviously not paying attention to the sales of the 3d Mario AllStars game and that is why you see white as black. Try again.
@mariomaster96 I almost never talk bad about Nintendo, but the camera in SM64 I agree with, it’s a mess and should have been sorted out.
@Papichulo any of the major publishers would kill for sales figures like these as someone said they are beyond AAA, they are AAAA
Nintendo killing it.
@mariomaster96 I think there is something to be said for keeping it the way it was. As part of an anniversary collection. As the first 3D platformer I think it's cool to show the new generation how far we've came. But I guess they could've had an option to keep the legacy camera or use a fixed version.
Those Minecraft sales on Switch show how it's recognizable even in Japan. Hope people there are happy with Steve
@mariomaster96 That's not true at all. lol Those numbers are normal for 3D Mario. Take a look at Odyssey and you'll see that it began similarly until it reached 1 million. 3D Stars will sell for a long time before it reaches it. 3D Mario don't have frontload sales in JP, it gets sales over time.
@Nemesis666 Odyssey sold over 500k in the first week in Japan, that's almost twice as much as 3D All Stars in 2 weeks. And that although the installbase was much much smaller back then
poor Microsoft despite your best eforts you never manage to see well in Japan.
This is the first week where weekly retail sales of Animal Crossing New Horizons have dipped below 30,000 copies, over 6 months after launch.
Hope Konami can take a hint and release the Pro Evolution Soccer 2022 and maybe some new Yugi Oh!
Well what do you do when a new console is on the horizon...you buy games for 2nd one that has been just sitting there.
@PikaPhantom I think that's the main reason they put him in SSBU.
@sanderev It was a big part of why I thought they would consider Steve, on top of Minecraft's stature in the west
@Papichulo I think there are only 3 titles there that were on the Wii U
That's actually quite emphatic
@korosanbo Nintendo are selling new Switches like crazy right now. It's a fair bet most of those folks never had a Wii U (or bought MK again to have on Switch)
X box really doesn’t have much of a presence in Japan, does it.
@Papichulo two were Wii U games, 3 if you really wanna count Minecraft... You might know something I don't but I'm pretty sure the other platforms had to stay home too. Don't see any of their games in the 10 bar 1
Excluding the 3DS, switch is easily their best console since SNES. Come for the 1st party and get avalanched by the mountains of legit games by everyone else.
That excludes multi-plat AAA, they're better on PC
