It's Sonic's 30th anniversary next year and to celebrate IDW is releasing a hardcover collection of its Sonic the Hedgehog comic on 8th June next year.
All up, it includes 272 pages covering the first twelve issues of the comic book series. This is also volume one - so more volumes are expected to be released. Here's the full Amazon description, along with a look at the cover:
Oversized hardcover editions of IDW's celebrated Sonic the Hedgehog comic books, including the ongoing series, annuals, and mini-series, all presented in recommended reading order. Everything a beginner could need, everything a diehard could want!
The evil genius Dr. Eggman has been foiled--but the work of Sonic the Hedgehog isn't over yet! In the aftermath of the latest epic battle, rogue robots continue to attack small villages around the world. In order to succeed, Sonic will need the help of his friends Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, along with some new and surprising allies. But where is Dr. Eggman and what shocking secret will Sonic discover when he learns the bad doctor's whereabouts? Sonic soon finds out he isn't the only one looking for Eggman--so's his old frenemy Shadow the Hedgehog!
Dr. Eggman isn't the only bad guy around though, as a powerful new foe emerges and sets his sights on Angel Island. When Neo Metal Sonic--an evil robot with Sonic's speed, Dr. Eggman's intellect, and an unbreakable mechanical body--conquers the island to grow his power even more, Sonic and his friends must team-up and take the fight to him.
Volume 1 collects the first 12 issues of the Sonic The Hedgehog series.

Give me a price and I may consider it.
TAKE ALL MY MONEY!
I've lost interest in the comics after the ~20 times they rebooted the series during the Archie era, but I guess that's why I'm instinctively interested in getting this since I've missed out on nearly all the idw issues.
If the uk based Sonic The Comic had one I'd get it out of nostalgia but never had anything to do with other ones
@Kalmaro If it’s anything like the TMNT collections that are hard covers it’s probably gonna be 50 bucks
Never seen the comics, something I'd like to pick up tho depending on the price
Why has Sonic The Comic never had an official collected release? It's a travesty, as the comics were incredible. Everyone always goes on about the Archie series though... meh.
Anyways, I started getting into the IDW Sonic series earlier this year and I'm really enjoying it so far. I definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence. I'm on issue 18 and am really enjoying the story arcs. There's some pretty dark content considering its primarily a kids franchise.
@Roibeard64
Sonic the Comic was the best in the early days! Back then, they had stories for other franchises like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Echo the Dolphin, Kid Chameleon and Decap Attack. I'm probably forgetting a few. I loved how Streets of Rage was set ten minutes in the future. The most arbitrarily near future imaginable. I never had a Sega system, just a subscription to Sonic the Comic.
@AlienX As a long time Archie Sonic fan, the IDW is superb. The art style is consistent, characters like Amy are more fleshed out (she might be taking more of a Sally role), and the fights are epic (finally see a good fight between Sonic and Metal Neo Sonic). The themes still have mature undertones as well (the comic has not been babified). We also have a lot of the same writers from the final Archie run.
@Doktor-Mandrake Here something that might get you hooked. Michael Jackson as a stylized Platypus that can teleport. Check it out.
@MysteryCupofJoe
True - love the series and read it with my two sons (4 and 6) - they love it too. The Metal Virus Saga was great and quite long. Hope that IDW will give Megaman a shot - Flynn was a great writer on both Megaman and Sonic and my sons and I love the crossovers between Sonic and Megaman
Been literally decades since I picked up a sonic comic. I always liked the covers by Spaz. Is he still doing them?
Wow might get it
Haven't read the IDW comics but I've never got over the abrupt end to the Archie run.
I’ve been a subscriber to this series since the first issue. We are currently at issue 33. It’s alright. As an old school comic enthusiast from the 80’s and 90’s it isn’t at say Uncanny X-Men level but if you remind yourself that it’s Sonic then you will be perfectly satisfied.
I’ve heard good things about Sonic IDW so this seems like a nice way to get all 12 of them without worrying about loosing one
I've mainly been collecting the digital issues, and was on the fence about grabbing some trade paperback's. This is actually perfect for me, I just wish I had more space to store it, lol
Meanwhile, Crash 4 is a flop.
Are these any good? I'm not really a huge Sonic fan, but I did like the DS games and I really enjoyed the recent movie.
@IAmBerk Worth every penny though. I just read Vol. 11 of the TMNT IDW collection today. My only gripe continues to be the lack of extras, but to me that is not crucial personally, but I do get complaints in that regard.
Plus, I had Vol. 11 PO'ed on Amazon for months and ended up being 30€ thanks to their preorder service, where you get the best price before release.
Holy...crap. I worshipped these comics when I was younger. And I never even touched a sonic game, let alone who Sega was. I don't think it was these comics though, I had some of the sonic selects if any of you remember that, oh boy did I love them. It'll depend on the price if I will consider this or not.
I miss the sonic saga series. Maybe this can fill the hole in my heart
Imagine if they put sonic 06 in switch oh lord.
I guess this is how I'll get into the IDW comic. Been waiting for something like this.
You're mainly paying for the binding and paper quality with these things but the TMNT ones are excellent.
Enough for me to give the Transformers ones a go and might be willing to dabble with the GI Joe collections as well if I can hold my nose long enough to buy the digital versions.
(Totally down for a Archie Sonic or Sonic the Comic archive collection as well.)
@Kriven thanks, i don't know anything, i just had that one book that I now barely remember. The more you know.
