Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 19th - 25th October 2020, showing that Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit has slipped down to number 5 as Animal Crossing: New Horizons regains the top spot in time for Halloween.
Impressively, Switch games take every one of the top 10 entries, with Minecraft at number 7 and Pokémon Sword and Shield being the only entries not published solely by Nintendo — FIFA 21 for PS4 slipped down to number 12 behind Splatoon 2 at 12.
Much further down the list, the belated physical release of the excellent Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda debuted in 24th place.
Here are the top 10 (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):

Nintendo still rockin with Animal crossin.
Wow.... all 10 spots are games for the Switch?
Nintendo is destroying it. Great!
It's been a highly successful console eh
Um... When is November update ?
I cannot wait to farm another crops and cooking.
NINTENDOOMED!!
(joke)
Nintendo games proving their lasting appeal particularly when new releases are slow all round
Ah, but everyone's waiting for PS5 and Xbox Series X, shiny raytracing, graphics SSDs etc etc etc...zzzzz
Incredible, although software sales seem generally low in that top ten. Nintendo doing well in ALL markets it seems, love it.
Maybe they should leave the console and only do games for phones and give 30% of their revenue to Apple and Google? No, I think they should continue on their own, that's what they do best!
This is why we don’t need a new console generation with shiny new graphics. We just need good games. Its the first time in my life I am able to afford a new console on launch day. And I actively decided to wait a few years until the revisions of said hardware arrives. Nintendo and its weak consoles had me covered with its games.
6 year old Mario Kart 8 outselling Home Circuit
Safe to say, it’s a slow week. That chart needs a bit of a refresh - there are only three games from 2020 on it, and one of those is from March and another is a remaster of old 3D Mario games! Lovely to see Nintendo doing so well, but this shows how slow the year has been for new content.
Honestly this kind of annoys me...
I want to celebrate Nintendo's success but they have been so uncompetitive in what 1st party stuff they have released this year that I feel they shouldn't be able to clean up like this.
Where’s Michael Pachter saying Nintendo is not smart now? 😁
@LEGEND_MARIOID 'been'?
@WiltonRoots PS5, maybe, but I don't see Japan adapting the XBOX Series X|S, like at all.
The charts will be interesting after the release of PS5 though.
Looks like the console sales are starting to dip. Not sure if Warriors will save Christmas
@WiltonRoots was thinking the same thing.... But it has worked out great for Nintendo....
That’s incredible. Considering the years Microsoft & Sony had, those figures always astonish me
Nintendo is 'smashing' the competition! Yeah I know where the door is I'm out
Animal Crossing sold less than 100,000?
DOOMED!
Poor paper mario. Such a good game but no legs. Otherwise great showing for Nintendo.
Ring Fit Adventure will pass 2m in Japan by early 2021 at the latest.
So, the new big things in the next generation are some more pixels and ray tracing?
@AJWolfTill What do you mean they have been uncompetitive?
@GrailUK Yes, of course - "is"
@Cosats Yep it's like they've found a pot of varnish. Yes you can eat off this wooden table with no problem whatsoever, but now it has varnish! Varnish everybody! Varnish! It's a game changer.
Aside from the initial boom from spec heads (like petrol heads lol) I still think this is going to be a surprisingly slow uptake for next gen.
@AlienigenX agree to an extent. I was pretty impressed with the WiiU. Generally like the performance of the Switch. Not sure if I would upgrade to the new version. I would like a better battery and faster load times.
I have an Xbox One and that pretty much still blows me away. When Nintendo does its next upgrade years from now, I hope it is at least as powerful as last gen and maybe a bit more for modernity sake. I remember how impressed I was with the 3ds when it came out, and it started to feel dated four years ago, at least.
@Ryu_Niiyama don't u think it's a bit saturated? There was a relatively recent release on the WiiU. Several in that genre on 3ds, even if some were remakes.
Nintendo collecting the big cash before the PS5 debut I see. If Sony is launching PS5 this November they better launch it with a big release otherwise it would mean nothing to the Japanese crowd. The PS5 is in more danger than the PS4 cause this time there's no PSP or PS Vita to back it like the PS3 and PS4 had. The only two things it had going for it are better specs and backwards compatibility and even so it's only the PS4 library only.
Obviously PS5 coming, but I generally don't belive it will outsell Switch numbers in Japan in it's lifetime.
Mario Kart Live stock seems to have been depleted - sales fell ~90% from its launch week.
@rockodoodle I am going to assume you are asking if I think the rpg genre is saturated as your comment is vague.
And not really. Rpgs tend to offer different experiences and story approaches and Origami King is an action rpg or an adventure game with an rpg battle system depending on who you talk to. Either way a game is good (I like origami king) on its own merit and it shouldn’t matter how many other games there are in the genre or series.
I think the only limitation is time and money not genre saturation as not everyone likes the same things for the same reasons so I am all for more games for everyone to pick a favorite.
That being said paper mario is still a small franchise in comparison to the other Mario spinoffs. Even the pitchfork rallying favorites aren’t evergreen games. I acknowledge that, I just feel bad seeing an enjoyable game dwindle in sales so quickly.
@Ryu_Niiyama I just meant with Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi type games between the 3ds, WiiU and Switch....it might have sold better if they released next year at this time. Paper Mario is just on my brain....
@rockodoodle I think it was an exciting semi shadow drop. Plus it is the first on the Switch. Way less switch owners would have played color splash and mario and luigi RPG is not the same series. Either way. It is what it is.
@Ryu_Niiyama true. I just didn't get it bc I have Color Splash on WiiU and whatever vis available on 3ds, mostly unplayed. Maybe wait for a sale here.
Sees that the top ten spots are all for the Switch
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
@sanderev nope, I can’t see it doing very well in Japan at all either. Same with PS5. The Playstation is pretty much an American console these days, designed by an American for a western market. I reckon it will beat the Xbox over there without trying, but will struggle to reach half the sales of the PS4 in Japan. At a push it’ll match the Japanese Wii U sales.
It would be useful to see the sales figures in the west. Japanese tastes tend to be... a little different... from the west.
Nintendo seems to be running Sony and Microsoft over with a truck in Japan. I wonder if the PlayStation 5 or possibly the Xbox Series X will pick up steam this year.
"FIFA 21 for PS4 slipped down to number 12 behind Splatoon 2 at 12."
So did they tie at 12?
@Ryu_Niiyama Origami King has more of a puzzler battle system than an RPG battle system.
Surprised in Japan, where they say the Xbox is too big because of the smaller living spaces, that they have room for Mario Kart Live tracks. Hmmm...
@WiltonRoots Not a graphics guy, hmm?
Let this sink in:
Japan Population: 126.5 MILLION
Xbox One S (the cheapest one) sold 19 consoles.......Microsoft should personally send a thank you to those 19 people.
@Severian He's somewhere playing his Nintendo Switch...lol.
@RPGamer Exactly! And it's not like Nintendo isn't working on their next console and games like Mario Kart 9....I just wanted to say Mario Kart 9. OH BOY!!! haha
@Dog What on earth gave you that impression?
I don't mind a nice looking game but I find all the digital foundry style nitpicking as dull as dishwater. I've tried watching a couple of things about the new consoles but I find myself switching them off quite quickly. I'd rather hear about the games themselves.
wow Animal Crossing New Horizons is almost at 6 milions units sold only on Japan(that very impressive)another proof that in the first half of 2021, Animal Crossing New Horizons will become the highest selling Switch game, and oh Switch is at almost 50 milions consoles sold just in Japan, theres no denial that until the end of the second half of 2021, Switch is gonna join the 100 milions Club.
