If you tuned in to the 30-minute Nintendo Treehouse July 2020 presentation earlier, you may have been eager to see more of the imminently-releasing Paper Mario: The Origami King, which was the main focus of the broadcast. However, yesterday Nintendo teased an announcement of an entirely new game coming from developer WayForward. Naturally lots of people got excited that the Shantae studio might be cooking up something special, perhaps even a revival of a treasured gaming franchise.
Well, it may not be what you expected, but that game is action-RPG Bakugan Champions of Vestroia. It will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and it's launching exclusively for Switch on 3rd November 2020.
Here are some more details and screenshots from the official press release:
[Players] can create and fully customize their Brawler to fight side-by-side with the mysterious alien Bakugan as their human partner in battle. The game features a fully navigable 3D world divided into different districts each with dedicated battle arenas. Players can interact with other characters, go on quests, and explore with their Bakugan friends. They can also test their brawling skills online in head-to-head multiplayer against friends or players from the around the world to become a true Champion of Vestroia.
A physical Deluxe Edition pack, featuring the video game, an exclusive Ultima Dragonoid™ toy which transforms into a fierce Bakugan, Ultima Dragonoid trading card, Ultima Dragonoid metal gate card, plus two powerful BakuCores™ will also be available at launch.
The game features an original story based on the TV series and toy franchise. Take a look at the trailer above for a taste of what to expect, but judging from the replies to Nintendo of America's tweet, it may not be what fans were hoping for:
Are you a Bakugan fan? Were you expecting something different from WayForward? Let us know below.

"THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR! "
... said nobody. 😄
That was a marginally better announcement than toothpaste.
Didn't see that coming.
Still, I welcome it.
I'll admit, I have never heard of this IP before. I am sort of surprised by the reaction to it, but I feel that people are getting so desperate for news that everything is getting overhyped.
Either way, hope people enjoy it if you're a fan!
A game of what started as a Beyblade knock off toy. I’m sure that’s what we all wanted.
Bakugan? Now theres a name I haven't heard in a long time...
Baku....what?
Definitely not what I or others were asking for. Maybe it will be good?
Not the type of thing I was expecting from WayForward. This one's not for me but that's okay, can't win them all.
Well, this tree house was underwhelming af.
Today isnt April 1 is it?
So much for the shred of hope that this could have been a Castlevania announcement. *shrugs
This was disappointing, Wayforward are not known for their 3D games, and this game looked pretty poor honestly, with a weird and not especially interesting battle system from what we saw of it in the video. And the character art for human characters looked really off.
But I have plenty of other games to buy, so it matters not.
Actually, I have plenty of games to play from the pile of brought games.
…
… I have a problem.
Worst announcement of the year. I wasn't expecting much and was still let down.
Wow, more polarized reactions to this Treehouse presentation. Why am I not surprised?
If you want a Castlevania game so badly, download Bloodstaind 2, that just came out today.
Jeez, everyone is rough about this Treehouse. It was not a Direct, people. Next time don't set your expectations up for disappointment.
It's like a constant cycle where nobody ever learns.
Did not have any expectations for the announcement, but this one came out of left field.
Well.... kind of expected something meh since they went so far as to clarify that it was a third party franchise when people started theorizing about a huge reveal
Still wonder though how this game deserved a spot in a treehouse live together with Paper Mario..... it doesn't make sense to me
Can't wait to see the dislike ratio on this one. Never thought I'd be reminded of the awful Pokemon Unite thing.
Happy for you if you like the franchise, but...
No. Bad Nintendo. BAD. Stop hyping up mediocre crap that's gonna go straight to the discount bin six months after release. Christ, I at least expected a game franchise like Sonic or Castlevania, not... this.
Is Bakugan even popular these days? I know it was kinda big some years back. Wasn’t really expecting much from this event so whatever I guess.
I liked bakugan as a kid and even I am disappointed...
Honest question, but how big is this franchise? I have never known anyone to be in to it! Yet, it still keeps getting games released. Who is buying them? Is it popular with kids? Anyhoo, there's plenty of Wayforward stuff to buy in the coming months. I just don't get why they didn't put this on a platform without Pokémon. I don't get it. But happy for those who do.
Doesn't Reggie work at the board of directors at spin Master? I wonder if he pulled in some favors to to get the game promoted...
Yay. So excited. I can’t wait.
Announcing that they were reversing their decision to remove Don't Get Caught from the eShop and showing a full blooded, uncensored clip right after Mario Paper would have gotten a more positive response.
Nintendo has some strange "humor". The last scene in Paper Mario is Mario running around with an Samus-Style helemt, so the cowd jumps on the Metroid-Hype-Train. They have time since there is an long break. an THEN Nintendo shows a game which might be ok, we will see, but nearly noone even knows the IP. Special....very special...
Well that's disappointing. Twitter was a buzz thinking it was a Nintendo ip
So it's like a fake Pokemon game?
Even a virtual console announcement would be better than anything at this stage.
My God. Crap, nobody needs.
What's wrong Nintendo???
Are you so satisfied with the Switch sales already, that major games aren't a deal anymore.
Come On. We all want a new F-Zero, Pikmin, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Wave Race....
@Alpha-2002 Salt much?
No idea what that Mario-with-a-Samus-helmet thing is about.
I mean, I assumed it was a Metroid-related wink, but they've been winking for a month now.
And if, instead, they're teasing a mechanic in Paper Mario, then, well, the game's coming out in a week, why are they still "teasing" mechanics?
@NotoriousWhiz Hey, now, c'mon....
You're underselling toothpaste.
Well... Paper Mario looks cool.
Nintendo is kidding us. Year 2020 no one cares this garbage kid show game.
Ok, so much for that.
Banner of the Maid is launching on Switch on August 12th.
Only $16 😃
Not my preferred game announcement, but nothing to get worked up over. Paper Mario is coming soon enough.
@BanjoPickles You must know what Konami is like by now...
Didn’t even know that Bakugan was still a thing.
Y'all need to stop blaming Nintendo for the vast, joyless chasms that our lives have become.
Paper Mario looks awful, Bakugan looks awful. Guess I wasn’t the target audience. Oh well, back to Bloodstained lol
@TheDanslator What, are you from the Deep South of internet commenting?
That was a disappointing announcement
Y'know, I think people were expecting something exciting and not one of WayForward's bad licensed tie-in games.
Why would Nintendo promote it
Lot of salty folks here. Nintendo clarified well in advance it wasn't a Nintendo IP, as well as the treehouse livestream being specifically for Paper Mario.
This announcement was just an added perk, regardless if it interests you or not. All hype and anticipation was created by the fans, not Nintendo in the slightest. Plus with Wayforward having strong support for Nintendo systems it makes sense.
As for personal thoughts, game could be fun. I remember liking the series a while back and think they still show it on CITV in the wee early hours.
EDIT: As for the Castlevania wants, Konami is going out of their way to shut down all non-pachinko Castlevania games. They aren't going to make a new one anytime soon.
Considering they got called upon by a B-List toy company, that's actually a step up for WayForward. Not terribly exciting, but then again, Treehouses aren't exactly something people stuck around for after E3 presentations.
I’m not digging the new Paper Mario battle system. Game itself looked promising until then.
Bakugan...not much else to add that hasn’t already been said already.
The best thing to come out of that video was that guy’s afro. Seriously, I think he must be Bob Ross’ lovechild.
Treehouse is NOT Nintendo Direct. Seems people have forgotten that.
So just to be clear, it's new, it's unexpected, it's not an 8-bit metroidvania or a jerk-off simulator... But fans are upset it's not a sequel or remake?
Not for me, but I hope people who like Bakugan have a blast!
When raising valid criticisms about Origami King is labeled "toxic" and "ungrateful" behavior, yet hating on this Bakugan game is just accepted. I really miss the days of having double standards...
This isn't meant as a diss to anybody. If you're excited for Origami King (or Bakugan, for that matter), I hope you love it. But it's not being spoiled to feel underwhelmed about a game. I understand that so much complaining can get annoying, but it's important for game developers like Nintendo to be able to get both positive and negative feedback on their products in order to make better games moving forward.
Was the Bakugan game unfinished, or is it intentionally supposed to look that way? It looked ugly and weird, like they hadn't applied textures to half the world. And the character design looked like Western poor man's Anime. Would have made more sense for a Japanese developer, like a CyberConnect2, to make this game.
The name sound a lot like pokemon. Imagine a child aged 5 or 6 saying what game they want for christmas and them saying bakugun , when they meant to say pokemon imagine there face when on christmas day they end up with this trash instead.
Wow, what a sucky announcement.
Nintendo knew it too ! That's why they did the preventative damage control with that tweet saying not to get your hopes up haha
Pokemans, digimans, yugimans, bakumans
Fandom: "Worst announcement of the year"
Pokemon Unite to WayForward: "GG tanking them for me this week, guys, this was getting tiresome"
Metroid Federation Force: "First time?"
Speaking seriously, not much personal interest in Bakugan but good for the studio getting another franchise into their portfolio. And announcement-wise, they already made my day earlier. Twice, even.
WayForward? More like WayBackward. I don't think I could be less interested if I tried. Still if there's one person out there who'll enjoy this, I hope they do.
When Nintendo said that the game would be based off of a third party franchise, I think that both myself and several other people expected a third party VIDEO GAME franchise since Nintendo, a big VIDEO GAME company, hyped up the announcement. I don't know about you guys, but I'm hoping that the July 20th direct is real, because this better not be all that Nintendo has planned for the rest of 2020.
BTW, if you're excited for the game, then good for you.
Well, it is Treehouse after all. I applaud them every time they try.
@Deltarogue "third party" doesn't only refer to games.
And there are still 5 months in the year so they definitely have other stuff planned
Looks meh at best.
@tendonerd They DID say it wasn't from a Nintendo IP, though.
Cool add it to the list of children games and/or jrpgs I don't want to play in 2020.
What a waste of a game announcement this is and forever will be.
@Entrr_username Yeah, "salt much."
I was expecting something good in the platformer genre, like a new Sonic Advance or Mega Man - maybe even a new Castlevania.
Those would've been cool and unique announcements. THOSE would've been good picks to announce.
Instead, we get a lame 3D ARPG based off a niche franchise that most assumed was long since dead... if they even knew it existed at all, that is.
Brave and the Bold by WayForward was pretty decent. Lots of great games have been made with weird licenses Parasite Eve (Square), Buck O'Hare (Konami) and Little Nemo the Dream Master (Capcom) come to mind. This game looks like it has high production value. If the game gets good reviews I'll check it out
@Alpha-2002 This is a treehouse event. Not a direct. And as I said earlier, third-party doesn't only apply to games.
@PikaPhantom Exactly, if Nintendo wants to promote this kind of game. They should be upfront:
"Check out newest Bakugan trailer after the treehouse."
Not
"Hey guys! Guess what!? We've got a big surprise for you!"
Lol, everyone expected Castlevania and we got this 😂 it couldn't have gone worse, could it?
Watching the GamExplain live reaction was great. Its these guys' job to promote Nintendo games, and they were not even trying to be positive about this game.
That's definitely a sign, that many Nintendo fans aren't satisfied about the current situation.
I got to say this was about as uninteresting as something from Wayforward could have been.
My money was on them at least partnering with a major third-party IP. IDK, let's say, they did a platformer in the Okami universe or something - ya, know - interesting.
I hope someone will enjoy this.
I'm actually more excited for this than Origami King, if I'm honest. The battle system looks like a lot of fun!
It helps that I went in knowing that it could have of been literally any property not owned by Nintendo. Like pulling a name out of a hat. And it was a surprising name that I recognized! Neat!
I want apologies from everyone that got mad when I said WayForward was gonna disappoint based on their past.... I knew it!
First off: horrible IP
Second: game had no background music
Third: game looked god awful
4th: Guy was reading from a script with ZERO emotion, and that’s his own game!!!
Horrid. Just HORRID.
@NotoriousWhiz technically a “surprise” can be good or bad.... maybe it’s everyone else’s fault for assuming it was a good surprise?! Hahahahaha.
@Entrr_username it’s my boy! 👍🏻❤️
Plot Twist: Nintendo bought Warner and this game can be considered first party.
Kid: "Mom, I want Yokai Watch 4"
Mom: "We have Yokai Watch 4 at home"
Yokai Watch 4 at home:
...
Honestly, half of the reason why the game looked so bland is because that presenter from Spin Master has the an incredibly boring and monotone voice (not to mention that he was reading off of a teleprompter at one point)
@Deltarogue sadly if we want a Nintendo Direct, Nintendo will only release games for Switch in the second half of 2021, they want Switch to die already, this annoucement is a proof that Nintendo dont care anymore for Switch.
@COVIDberry
Without question, but they did give WayForward the keys to Contra, and it was amazing! A new Castlevania in 2020 would make sense with the success of the show.
Was this really worth hyping up yesterday? Were they really expecting an excited response from this?
What a rough reveal. I cant see this game doing well, unfortunately.
This is an odd choice, I would have understood a new YuGiOh game after the sales of the last one did well on Switch.
From what I remember of the Bakugan game my neighbors had when I was younger this game had like zero strategic depth, add in the fact that the majority of that trailer was the character running around while nothing happens, I'm probably going to pass.
I should say though that I am indeed disappointed by this reveal, especially since I've never heard of Bakugan besides seeing some commercials for it many years ago. At the same time though, people act as though Nintendo was hyping up something huge despite the fact that third-party can refer to any other property.
@Giancarlothomaz Is this a troll?
@Slowdive sadly it seens that Nintendo want Switch to die to not face agaist PS5 and Xbox Series X this holiday, why continue making games for our most sucefull console if we can kill prematurely and be the first major companie since Sega to live the console market, if sad to realise this but i started to think i will have to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X, since Nintendo is not releasing anymore big games for Switch, mark my words 2017-2020= death of Switch by Nintendo own imcompetence.
@Entrr_username sadly no, if Nintendo actually cared about Switch now and based on the 80th Shareholders meeting, we already gonna have a Nintendo Direct that show the rest of 2020 games for Switch.
all the 30-something year olds moaning about a game for 11 year olds. Nope, wasn’t a Metroidvania folks lol
man you guys expected way too much from nothing at all. i can't imagine how you'd expect a metroid or castlevania game out of something so innocuous
@Giancarlothomaz I mean we can ignore Animal Crossing, Clubhouse Games, Xenoblade Chronicles, Paper Mario, and the fact that Nintendo clearly has more games planned for the system this year. Apparently, one mediocre reveal invalidates literally every game released for the system.
And you say Nintendo doesn't care about the Switch but they're also going to have a direct for more Switch games? kk
Have to admit I know nothing about Bakugan, just vaguely recognize the name. The gameplay footage didn't look especially exciting, though.
Honestly if they'd announced Bakugon earlier and saved the Shantae announcements for today, then you'd see some justified hype.
Hey WayForward has to keep the lights on, hopefully it’s a decent enough game.
how can this year get any worse? Nintendo announces a exclusive Bakugan game
@Dr_Corndog I mean, they also get their money from patrons, and they were obligated to read probably a couple dozen super chat donations from people hating on the game. Kind of a darned-if-you-do, darned-if-you-don't situation, but it was super funny.
This thing had no place in the livestream at all. It was highlighted as a big thing from the developer but... it’s just an underwhelming game based off a pre-2010s toy franchise. Character models look bad, UI is off, everything looks like an early build, not even on par with Wayforward’s quality standards.
My question is: why? Why not just Paper Mario? Or maybe some videocall with people that are working on Metroid Prime 4, BotW2, anything would’ve been a better fit at this point.
Well...can't win 'em all, and Nintendo has to have games that call to all audiences. However, this was a lot of hype; maybe I missed the moment where they thought EVERYONE WILL LOVE IT so let go the hype train.
@Varkster Nintendo isn't and shouldn't be immune to criticism, though.
WayBackward....
Lol @ some of the knee jerk reactions here.
Switch is dead! No more games for the year!! 🤦
@muscpt The hype was mainly that it was from Wayforward, but no one had any idea what they had coming. I was looking forward to it myself, but I also mentioned that their licensed games usually aren't very good, and this is honestly pretty underwhelming. It's also a little confusing, since I didn't think Bakugan was relevant any more. I had to check online, and they apparently have another series with a second season, and Warner Brothers is publishing this, so there should be some sort of audience.
Nintendo is so focused on appealing to mindless children, it hurts. Their focus on quantity over quality is so blatantly obvious at this, and I honestly don’t think they care anymore about their craft.
@TG16_IS_BAE Did I say anything that implies otherwise? They literally announced they will show Paper Mario and a new game by WayForward.
People are sh*tting all over this game and I feel genuinely bad for the developers who probably put hard work into it.
As I said it wasn't a direct and they didn't say they will show any games. If this was the first reveal for Paper Mario noone would mind.
I'd be more interested if it weren't based on the godawful reboot
@Andrew5678 Thanks, I too felt it was underwhelming. I am sure it will go well with kids, and make for great gifts for them come Holidays.
@SeantheDon29 The developer isn't Nintendo. What are you talking about?
I stopped caring about Bakugan after Spinmaster cancelled the series and associated games a while back. I really enjoyed it back then, but imo, Spinmaster kinda killed it by over-complicating the base game to sell additional game pieces, while not really investing much in any sort of competitive circuit after the first two years of its life. I heard they are trying again, but I lost any trust in the series' longevity after having spent the money before to risk getting more of their games and stuff only for it to abruptly end.
Is bakugan still a thing? 🤔
Remember it was popular 10years ago then it died out a year or two later 😒
WayForward was always like this, having to make bad licensed games to survive and have funding for their good games.
WayForward made good games, but most of their catalogue is rubbish.
Trailer looked fine! I know of Bakugan, but I don't think I have ever checked out the tv show. Even with good reviews, I don't think I will be playing this one. Too many other game franchises to visit!
WayForward does a lot of great games, but also a lot of poor ones, mostly licensed titles to pay the bills and fund the great games, but they do make some good licensed games too. I'm not confident this will be one of them, hopefully I'm wrong.
@Varkster Your initial post came across that way towards people who disliked the treehouse. Nintendo isn't perfect, and if we don't like what they do we should tell them.
@Varkster SeantheDon didn't state that they were talking about Bakugan, sounded more like they were talking about Nintendo's emphasis, in general and not specific to any game in particular.
@SeantheDon29 Yeah, Nintendo seems to be going a direction I don't agree with. I've been steadily losing interest in them since the GameCube times. I find the Switch to be interesting, but it's got such a deluge of low-quality software to sift through.
Not to mention the fact that their console could use more horespower, and that their eShop needs a review system and a user-friendly refund system.
@TG16_IS_BAE There was only one treehouse ever when they announced a major title (Metroid), given they didn't try to bring much attention to this Treehouse I don't understand why people were expecting more?
Bakugan? Sheesh! Could have at least been Beyblades.
From the sublime to the ridiculous.... Just when I thought 2020 could not get any worse.
I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but not this underwhelmed. I’m happy for those that like the franchise but from what i’ve seen on the reddit bakugan sub even the fans seem to be unimpressed with the look of the game. Ah well on to the next one bois!
@BanjoPickles Why must you add to my backlog? Have you no mercy?
@TG16_IS_BAE and @SeantheDon29 specifically said "they don't care anymore about their craft". If you're nitpicking my quotes you should look carefully at others as well.
Oh switch online oh switch online, oh how we hate you switch online, from your dumb pokemon games to ssbu, oh switch online oh switch online, oh how we hate you switch online. glade I did'int watch this.
@TG16_IS_BAE ...perhaps then they should comment that on an article not detailing the WayForward game made by WayForward, with no relation to nintendo barring it being on the switch and a livestream?
They should NOT have hyped this at all. If it was a Paper Mario Treehouse and we all watched and enjoyed that, only to have whatever this pop in for the last 5 minutes, we'd all probably be like, "Ohhhh cool I guess". Once they built any sort of hype for this and this is the Reveal... it's a let down.
This reminds me of what TNA Wrestling used to do under Dixie Carter.
@MS7000 Well, it doesn't help that most people think the series has been on a major decline in quality ever since the first season (outside of the fourth), and they had a bad reboot recently with controversial designs that don't even look like the same characters. And of course, this game has the new designs.
@graysoncharles Maybe it wasn’t an actual direct and they probably wanted to reveal it outside of it? And who said I was defending it? I’m disappointed and uninterested in this game as well
Man people sure hate everything that isn't exclusively for them.
WayForward is a company that literally started out developing licensed games based on other IPs
The fact that people are this mad about them doing something that they've done for years is pretty funny
Besides Bakugan is better than Pokemon fight me
Since they also made DuckTales Remastered iI was hoping that they would remake Darkwing Duck as well.
Meh.
This sucks.
@KryptoniteKrunch Poked my head in here hoping to see some bedwetting, wasn't disappointed in the slightest...this comment section has made my day.
(dusts off that bingo card...)
Yes a complete disappointment. Surely Nintendo must have something good to show us. Dont know what they are waiting for.
This reveal might be the biggest insult by a major gaming company in the past decade. I literally screamed at my screen. I knew Nintendo said it wasn't going to be Metroid or Wario Land, but the hype they created made me think they were just going to surprise us with it anyway. Absolutely unacceptable to do this to us. Unacceptable. Once they knew Metroid or Wario Land was expected, they should've cancelled the announcement.
Nintendo, publicly apologize and cancel Bakugan Champions of Vestroia or you can kiss your business goodbye.
Nintendo making this announcement was unfair to Warner Bros. Interactive and WayForward.
They should've known their social media audience better know WayForward as indie sweethearts, and not for their licensed games that pay their bills.
@westman98 how many octaves higher did you go when you screamed? I mean obviously I have to run to the department store to replace all my crockery. Again. It was like a Greek wedding.
@muscpt Yeah, I was never exactly into Bakugan, and I don't watch TV, but there seems to be an audience. I just hope Wayforward can polish up the game a bit more, or they were just using an early build. Outside of just not looking interesting, it seemed kind of rough, and 3D games just aren't Wayforward's forte.
Oh well, hoping Paper Mario turns out good, and we don't have to wait too long for any more announcements. Summer's still backlog season for me.
This reveal has just left me with a phobia of treehouses.
Switch audience: man switch has barely any good exclusives besides the Nintendo developed ones.
Nintendo: we have great 3rd party exclusives and will announce them soon.
Exclusives announced: Bakugan.
@WiltonRoots
I screamed so hard that my Switch screen shattered.
Take that, Nintendo!
Well what a few weeks. First Pokemon Unite and now this!!! Be still my beating heart. It fart. Nintendo dumbing down already!
So from now on expect nothing from Nintendo Treehouse, got it.
I watched maybe 5 minutes of people playing a hame I have no interest in waiting for an awesome annoucement (nintendo teased it) got fed up watching it, came back to see what all the fuss was going to be about, and what did we get?
I feel sorry fir anybody who had to sit through that expecting something great from wayforward.
Seriously though what is nintendo thinking, hyping up games from developers people trust, just to load out some crap. Your not fooling me next time.
@WiltonRoots
Lol Definitely some bingo card candidates here. I expect the next full Direct to be a zoo.
I don’t think the announcement of a Bakugan game is really the issue. It wasn’t a Direct... BUT the fact that they announced that there was going to be a new game announcement from a great developer, and our expectations went up! They could have just said nothing, announced the Bakugans and we could have collectively shrugged our shoulders (or got excited if Bakugan is your thang). But we were set up for disappointment.
@somebread No, I think the comment fits into the context of this game.
@shyguy91 Well, your underwhelming af.
@Varkster Not sure how that fits into the context of our conversation, care to elaborate?
@Varkster You can't understand that Way Forward has a good reputation, and that people were expecting a good quality game from them? Weird.
@JohnnyC I’m not sure you can call them fans... many of them are just whiny brats..
@GrailUK All I can say is, back in 2007 or so when I worked at a childcare center, most of the kids that like Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh were also into this.
@COVIDberry
Haha! It's the least I could do.
@CodyMKW *you’re
@TG16_IS_BAE What does anything you're saying have to do with Nintendo or my point?
You're arguing with air at the moment.
And regarding the game quality, have you played the game yet?
Not really a fan of the franchise so I can't say this made me feel much. Congrats to all you Bakugan fans though; at least WayForward will make it good.
That we haven’t gotten a Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, or Breath of the Wild 2 trailer at this point is ridiculous.
But hey, we got.....this? Whatever the hell this crap is.
Nintendo really pulled out the big W huh?
@graysoncharles Not exactly sure how Nintendo hyped this up beyond the typical "we're showing off a new game from a different developer". Heck, they didn't even mention there would be anything else besides this and Paper Mario.
I agree that literally any other announcement would have been more interesting than this, especially with the huge lack of any news.
I didn’t watch the presentation, was there more footage/analysis of this game shown that isn’t in the trailer? I am having a hard time understanding the outrage here. Is this really all because there was some baseless rumour it was going to be a CASTLEVANIA announcement? (like.. what?!?) Keep in mind that WayForward did a The Mummy tie in that was also baulked at that turned out to be incredible.
@judaspete Ah, well, games can be successful without me liking them. (Most are if I'm honest lol)
Yuck. Who the heck asked for this garbage?
Didn’t digimon die off a decade or two ago?
What a waste.
Heh glad I wasn't hyped or that would've been very disappointing
@graysoncharles Not sure why saying that would make this have the same hype levels as a game like Breath of the Wild.
This was on the same level as the second Pokemon announcement. They need to say that, "Hey this announcement is for just two games." I think people will be more understanding than just be quiet for long time and then hit with a presentation.
@Ashunera84 I think it was more of the idea that Nintendo was quiet for sooo long and then they hit the audience with a quick announcement to only be about two games. I think people were expecting a year plan for Nintendo or something.
Bakugan is not my cup of tea.
But i see a lot of complaints from some of users here because the game wasn't Sonic or Metroidvania or any popular Nintendo franchise in the past.
Guys, just let this franchise (Bakugan) shine on Nintendo Switch regardless of being niche or not. Give the unpopular things get some attentions. I believe there are some peoples who are Bakugan fans happy to see the game on Nintendo Switch.
I have wise knowledge of the anime series on times, but you'll definitely need more to convince me that this will be the definitive Bakugan experience. Knowing Wayforward, I hope they pull it better than what was shown.
The graphics look like an early Xbox One game, and they're actually fine. But the rest of the presentation looks kinda bland, with text boxes and characters showing up with little to no emotion...
That said, there must be something on those gameplay mechanics that really hooks up the player, and I need to know what that is.
Whatever pays Shantae's rent I guess.
@Axelay71 At this point either Nintendo has nothing to show us or they are completely trolling us. I get it that its their product so technically they can release their info when they want to but it all seems a bit tone deaf.
Over 6 months since the last full, proper Direct and we're now on the back half of a year when Sony and Microsoft are releasing new, even more powerful consoles. If Nintendo has a slate of first-party games coming in 2020's holiday season, it stands to reason that a full Direct would have to be imminent.
Maybe folks placed more hopes and emphasis on this Treehouse presentation than was called for, but the reason for the spleen being vented is obvious. The clock is ticking.
Graphically, it doesn't really look that much worse to me than the rough spots in Sword & Shield.
@Entrr_username i see, but the Nintendo Direct that suposed to hapen in july 20, is still a rumor until Nintendo say maybe on july 17, we gonna do a 35-40 minute Nintendo Direct that focus in the 2020 games for Switch in july 20, i will only wait with worry of lack of the rest of 2020 Nintendo Switch games, when his rivals Microsoft and Sony is able to do Direct styles presentations with no sign of delays or someting bad happening with them, Nintendo need to keep making compeling games like Animal Crossing New Horizons, soon Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 if Nintendo want Switch to continues be a sucess and reach 100-115 milions consoles sold at the end of Switch life cycle in 2022 or 2025 if Nintendo stament of extending Switch life cycle is true.
@KingBowser86 I gotta respectfully disagree, WayForward got called upon by Konami to do Contra 4 and then they got called upon by Disney to do Ducktales Remastered. Bakugan isn't a step up by any means, it's not a passion project like those other two it's just something to pay the bills.
Man some Bakugan fans are probably really happy about this, that's great but man I am kind of disappointed. Oh well I got the Bloodstained games at least.
@TrevorMcD Granted, I'm thinking purely from a money/opportunities/network standpoint.
@Andrew5678
I know how you feel, my backlog is chin deep considering it includes rpg/jrpg's.
Well I got something out of this. Contra 4. Never played it, was unaware of it, but now I will be playing it thanks to comments from prior to the reveal, so it’s all good.
This reveal might be the biggest insult by a major gaming company in the past decade. I literally screamed at my screen.
the hype they created made me think they were just going to surprise us with it anyway.
Nintendo, publicly apologize and cancel Bakugan Champions of Vestroia or you can kiss your business goodbye.
@westman98 Hey, this was pretty funny, even in a comment section that is almost entirely self-parody. You should write copy for Devolver's E3 presentations.
To the future readers of this comment section:
The "hype" that several are referring to above is a single tweet from Nintendo. Nothing more.
@NotoriousWhiz nuh, bruh, toothpaste is actually useful
I understand people are starving for interesting game news, but lets give WayForward the benefit of the doubt. The put out fun games, albeit eclectic at times. Mighty Switch Force came out of left field and it ended up surprising a bunch of people. This could be end up being the collection action game I've been lacking from Pokemon on the Switch, or even a hidden gem. Sure, it could also be trash, but at least try to be open-minded.
@CoastersPaul The lighting / shadows are atrocious
The best part about this announcement was the reactions on this page. It’s like setting on a wet toilet seat...completely grossed out and sad inside is the feeling. Bakugan...may as well be another dead franchises revival. How about a big bad beetle borg game?!?!
I pity WayForward for receiving such a horrible, wasteful project. Digimon is absolute trash and seeing this rubbish get representation on a Nintendo platform is a very disturbing development.
What the! It looks to me like some mix of digimon and i just couldnt stop cringing at the themesong!
@sketchturner it smells of digimon to me! Even the orange dino thing from digimon looks similar to what freaks they have created. Looks really crappy!
@DoktorTotenKopf snap! I got that vibe aswell. Digimon all over!
@ryobi85 aren’t you that strange person that made allusions to his genitals and bodily wastes a while back? Why are you still here?
@Zadaris Nope, I don’t think it looks good at all. —Does anyone here actually think this game looks “good” based on what was shown? The visuals and presentation scream of a rushed product (look at the global shadows; it’s as if they didn’t even try to feign ‘professional’.)
Part of it, I think, is that WayForward doesn’t have much expertise with 3D engines, and it really, really shows here.
I love how almost everyone one turned off the stream when they showed this game like "thats it stream over" also is the main character supposed to look like he pooped his pants?
So they are trying to save the Pokemon Company's awful reupload of United by introducing this trash? For shame Nintendo.
It might scratch the itch that pokemon didnt.
Tbh it still looks better than Pokemon Sword and Shield.
@KingBowser86 Ah I see, yeah that's definitely what this feels like lol. Much to us hardcore WayForward fans chagrin.
