It's been revealed that Nexomon: Extinction, a Pokémon-like monster-catching game coming to Switch later this month, will have a grand total of 381 monsters for you to discover. For comparison, that's almost as many as the first three Pokémon generations combined.
That's not all, though, as the game's publisher PQube has uploaded a Pokéde- sorry, Nexopedia, online. This handy tool gives you the opportunity to look over almost all of the 381 monsters for yourselves and clicking on each one gives you more in-depth stats.
You can use the Nexopedia tool here. It'll load a page that looks just like this:
The game launches on Switch on 28th August and is said to offer "about 20 hours of playtime". It's not a full-price release, either, with an RRP of £16.99.
Do you think you might give this one a go? Were there any monsters in particular that caught your eye? Let us know in the comments below.

Please be good!
That’s not a bad amount for a first game in the series. The designs aren’t too shabby either.
@nessisonett There's a mobile game of it too.
I would like a list with no evolved ones, I think it spoils the game a bit when you already know what they will look like when they evolve.
Monsters are knock-off pokemon with funny names. I like it.
Pretty cool. Im going to get this game. Looks like fun.
@UmbralChaos Ah right, didn’t know that. Still, that’s a lot of monsters at this point in the series.
Surprised this game is only 20 bucks
I'm going to refrain looking at the list and go in blind and fresh...can't wait!
@Chimaj Just don't look at the list. I'm interested in the game, so I'm NOT going to look at it. I'll read some reviews and go from there.
Wow, a lot of these designs are actually pretty great. Blimpapa for the win.
Hm, if it starts you off as a mute teenager, meeting a scientist who can never remember the name of you or your rival, in a small town and you are tasked with getting badges...I MIGHT get it
Can't tell if they're serious or parodying.
Why in the world would you carbon copy stuff like the Normal type, which are so intrinsically tied to the Pokémon brand?
And why do all these Pokémon clones do exactly that?
And that goes for the Psychic type, being a 10-year-old spurred on by a professor, and everything in between.
I hope it fails miserably
I really like the designs. There's a cohesiveness between them all that Pokémon has lost as new monsters have been added each generation.
That's a lot of designs. If the reviews are favourable then I could be tempted to pick this up.
I'm all for knock-off pokemon games, but you can't just make a fish monster and name it Goldine. Does it evolve into Seekeeng? At that point you may as well go for it and make an electric mouse mascot called Peekachoo.
None of these designs really stand out to me, the style is pretty boring.
A number of the designs resemble existing Pokémon too closely, one way or another.
Blublub greatly resembles Solosis, visually at least.
Mojompu has design elements that are visually very similar to Diggersby and Lopunny.
Rapilux looks like design of Meowstic, incorporating elements from both genders.
And Enercer looks like dangerously close to Vikavolt.
A lot of the Nexomon design influence, skimming through their Nexodex, seems to be inspired by the fifth, sixth, and seventh generations of Pokémon. There are alterations or reimaginings of concepts already covered by Pokémon, even if granted you only have so many creatures in the animal kingdom you can make fantastic.
My only concern is I'm pretty sure this game has no multiplayer of any kind from what I've read.
The design are SO Pokémon. I won't complain as long as the game its good. But they really look like plagiarism in some cases.
Some of them are way too close to Pokemon in design. And overall, seeing this really makes me appreciate Pokemon's style, because these are different and much less appealing. I saw very few that I actually liked.
At first glance it seems like this is trying a little too much to be Pokemon.
@XCWarrior I won't look at it either, but I would like to see them without their evolutions, which is not possible in this list.
@Bl4ckb100d Who hurt you?
So of these look a little too close to pokemon, and the name don't really help. Goldine looks like Seaking, Goldeen's evolution.
Edit: I hope this is good. I'm just not too confident in it yet, looking at some of the designs on the first few pages. This definitely looks like a mobile clone of pokemon, which doesn't have to be a bad thing. I'll definitely be waiting for some reviews on this one.
For the price, it seems like good value. Doesn't look as polished as TemTem but I like that Pokemon is getting some actual competition.
@luxoricious it might qualify for parody depending on how it presents itself
I see a good amount of great designs - like some of them even better than a lot of newer pokemon.
But the names? What happened to the names?
A lot of them are ridiculus or even plainly bad.
The art direction on this actually looks a lot better than rent Pokemon. I didn’t see a single Fursona!
There are quite a bit of similar designs here. I mean, a ton of Pokemon immediately came to mind looking over these.
That being said, they are overall quite nice. Some that are really clever and well done and I'm surprised they hadn't already been done yet in Pokemon
Honestly it looks so similar (the ‘mon do, that is) that it makes me want to just play the “real” thing. What I am interested in though, is what they do different and what they improve upon.
I’m already liking the ‘mon and how they’re not lazily based on a bag of garbage or ice cream or an apple... I was never a fan of those decisions. I like the use of all original monsters like the original 151.
Anyway, this game has my interest but I’ll wait for a review!
LATE NIGHT EDIT: So I decided to just go and look and some of the designs... wow... there truly are a few blatant ripoffs. Like... I was scrolling and did a double and sometimes triple take. It’s kind of making me now ask “wow is this a joke?”
I want competition for Game Freak but I’m almost rolling my eyes here... still, I want to see what they do with the game.
I’m secretly always hoping for a monster collector like this where you can learn more than 4 moves, can do more party management like select the monster that goes out first (not the 1st in your party), and fusing like SMT, etc.
That kind of stuff...
What is the difference between this version and the mobile version? The mobile version costs 1 buck and has a ton of microtransactions. The Switch version costs like 18 bucks. What's the difference here? Do you get the full package without any microtransactions? I'm always willing to give Pokemon-esque games a go and I think this one looks pretty decent actually. I just want to make sure this isn't just a higher priced mobile port with tons of microtransactions.
Well some are straight up Pokémon, many are clearly 2 Pokémon combined, a few are really cool and others just miss the mark entirely. Some are just ripping off other things entirely, there's definitely a Sky Bison from Avatar in the mix and some Digimon for good measure.
Also, "Branipus" ....should that not be "Brainipus"?
@ChromaticDracula There are ones based on a dreamcatcher, microchips, a zepplin, a lightbulb, onions and mushrooms in the first 3 pages.
I'll never understand why people are so anti new Pokémon based on objects and food, especially based on fruit and veg when there is an entire typing based around plants. Yet when others do it, or they look back on the ol' 6 eggs, a ball, pile o' sludge and some magnets of gen 1. It's perfectly fine.
A lot of the designs look really busy. Like, a few of the monsters could do with the removal of tidbits around their collar or, removal of tufts of fur or way too many clashing colors in a single monster. Most of, what I assume, are legendaries look bad because of it. Waaaaaaay too much going on with a bunch of their designs...
With that being said, a ton of them are AWESOME. Loving some of these designs. If someone could go in and remove and/or edit the busier looking monsters, this would be a very very solid lineup.
@Bl4ckb100d Why? It’s about time there was some healthy competition for Game Freak to pull their fingers out
@J-Biz Competition is one thing, this is straight out plagiarism.
@Bl4ckb100d the more I look at them the more I'm sure at least one of the artists was hitting 'random' on one of those websites that mashes two Pokémon sprites together and drawing whatever came out.
This resembles Pokemon a bit too much, even by Pokemon clone standards.
This has potential to be a solid Pokemon clone. Price is good, hopefully the game itself is too.
Not expecting much of anything, but the designs look surprisingly decent from a quick glance, if a little derivative.
Shameless clone that won't ever come close to Pokémon. Not wasting my time or money.
@Incarna in your opinion that is. Sorry to hear you didn't have fun with sword and shield but many millions did. Spent over 100 hours in the game and loved it and sales would say it hasn't done too bad with fans. Monster catching is still as enjoyable all these years later
@Brydontk totally agree some have way too much going on and will be interesting to see animated in game. As you said some look brilliant, my personal favourite the bulldog bouncer with the buzz cut 😂😂
I'm still stuck on the devs copying Gen 3-5's over world. Of all of the things you wanted to rip-off, you choose the last thing casual audiences think of when they're nostalgic??? That just feels lazy
Honestly, I think it's a mixed bag. Some designs feel a bit too on the nose with what they're trying to portray. I don't know, I'm not feeling a lot of them, but I can't say it's a bad line up overall. I think the names are the real problem. I don't know what it is, but a lot of them are just weird and don't stick in my head. Honestly, I'm not a massive fan of monster collectors in general, so I'll probably stick with Pokemon anyway.
'Something, something, competition', but can the competition not blatantly copy the main competitor? No wonder Pokemon doesn't change as much as people like, no one does anything different, and the few that do (Digimon, Yokai Watch, Monster Rancher, Spectrobes) are ignored and forgotten, even among dedicated gamers.
I like that many of the designs really show some character trough facial expression. Most Pokemons in SwSh did not have that.
I'm just befuddled as to why there is a line named after su1c1de
Like really, come on devs.
Oh man, there are a lot of really cool designs here!
I know it's budget but would like a 3D over world. There's a few other monster training and catching types that are coming out with that, so will be more looking for one of those.
I actually liked Pokemon better when it was pixel/2d. The only 3d gamegreak wants to do with the rpg series is cheap 3d which imo never looked great and always kinda worse. I'd like to see a mainline Pokemon game as graphically beautiful as Pokemon let's go, pokken, Pokemon snap2 trailer or even in a 2.5d style like octopath traveler. I really wanted the 3d game all in legit 3d. But noooooo couldn't do that. Rubbish. Their Pokemon mainline 3d uptill now for the most part has been half-assed graphics wise and an overall dissapointment. Clearly when Pokemon has looked soooo much better in it's spinoffs. Ugh.
Kindred Fates is the only one I can find, but there was another that looked good. Anyone else recall?
@UmbralChaos Google Play link?
There are a few mons that I like. I think I'll get this.
@MajinSoul It's a different game entirely.
"Nexomon" has a MTX plagued version for iOS/Android and a desktop version with none of that crap on Steam.
"Nexomon: Extinction" is a brand new game.
@nessisonett not the first in the series look up on Google play that's been out for about 2 years
@Switcheroot I see, thanks for the clarification. I'll likely buy it then.
