As you'll have no doubt guessed if you've been browsing our home page this morning, Nintendo has kicked our news department into gear by releasing its latest financial earnings report. While it might be a lot of work for us poor souls, it does mean that we also get an updated list of confirmed future releases.
While the list doesn't give away anything we didn't already know, it does confirm that the games listed below are still on track for their intended release dates despite any pandemic-related concerns. Miles Morales is taking priority this month. Will hopefully get Age of Calamity for Christmas
Only interested in BotW 2 (which I think will be coming next year) and possibly Metroid Prime 4 (even though I didn't enjoy 3 and Samus Returns). It's a good thing next-gen is almost here, as there hasn't been a major Nintendo release this year at all that has interested me. Oh well, first-world problems and all.
Why are games like Hyrule Warriors and Bravely Default 2 missing from Japans list?
I hope in this case that TBA means “to be awesome”.
Mario 3D World, can't wait to try that as I missed out first time. And Metroid Prime 4, I need to see this game, BotW 2 is a close second in the TBA list.
"Metroid Prime 4 (temp.) - TBA"
To be actually developed. =P
Hopefully means all still on track. MP4 won't be 2021 surely
@Falien I think perhaps it could be 'Totally Brickin' Awesome' actually.
But I could be wrong.
Nothing for me on that list sadly. Unless Famicom Tentei Club gets a translation at some point. :/
I didn't realise Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise was a Ninty published game.
This is fine
Got quite the backlog and there are already at least 4-5 titles in the near future I'm interested
@mariomaster96 KOEI Tecmo and Square Enix respectively are publishing them in Japan.
If all those TBA games release in 2021, it will be the year of the Nintendo Switch.
Bayonetta 3! Some day I will have you in my hands...
Bayonetta 3 still hasn't gotten a trailer, and the New Pokémon Snap looks like the best Pokémon Game since Sun (yeah I said it) which makes some since since the developers are Bandai Namco rather than stinky Game Freak.
@Falien In 3 out of four cases I expect nothing less, Pokémon Snap just never really appealed to me. The other 3 will have priority over any other game within a several months time frame, knowing that their prices probably won't ever really drop, and they're all continuations of my favourite games series. Add No More Heroes 3 to the list, make them all 2021, and next year is going to be very good already, games-wise.
I completely misread the title, I thought it said Switch games were being released ON Windows.
While I'm sure all those games will be great, the list is a bit thin. Hopefully there's an awesome Direct coming in the new year with loads of suprise announcements.
@XenoShaun Ah, I see, thx
"TBA" isn't the confirmation I was hoping for. I wish it meant they are all coming next year, but that's not the feeling I get for metroid.
Ive got my eye on botw 2 and mario 3d world.
I got lost and couldn't finish metroid prime on gamecube. So, Im not sure I want more of that on switch. Keeping an open mind, though.
And where is Pikmin 4?
Still more for me coming on the Switch than what Sony is offering on the PS5. Happy just to stick with the Switch.
A handful of games here are still TBA and that makes my heart sink. I want them in my hands, darn it! Oh well- I’ll be plugging away at my long queue of games in the meantime. -grumbles half disappointingly, half amusedly-
Poor Bayonetta, I miss her
@Linksniper I fear that the Pikmin sequel announced as being finished 5 years ago was Hey! Pikmin. I'd be gutted if that was the case, but it doesn't make sense that they've kept a fully completed game in a drawer for 5 years, especially with this year's demand for releases and relatively barren schedule. Then again, this is Nintendo. Happy to be proven wrong if it gets announced.
I don’t get it. What month is TBA?
😜
Nothing to see here
Most of my play time in 2021 will consist of Shin Megami Tensei and Monster Hunter, mixed with some No More Heroes 3.
@Strumpan exactly the same here, most likely also finishing up my backlog as well while I wait for SMT 3R and V
While the list does contain some games I really want to play, Nintendo is going to need to give us an idea of the future.
With Nintendo 3D World, they will be real close to being out of ports. While BotW2 and Metroid 4 are definite purchase, they’d both need to be next year for it to be considered a good year IMO.
Here’s to hoping they have something up their sleeve in 2021.
Nothing we didn't know about, which is expected because this happens every quarter. We know how Nintendo likes to announce new games, and this isn't the time (or method) it does so.
Next sure fire purchase is 3D world. Metroid, Zelda, bayonetta are not on my mind cos they feel so far away but will be day one when they arrive. . . Sometime xxx
Almost 4 years since Bayonetta 3 was announced, pretty safe to say it’s canned along with Doom Eternal and Metroid Prime 4
@MS7000 this video show that Metroid Prime 4 is in full development yes.
https://youtu.be/YDKvFeVwmXc
They could have at least ordered the TBA bunch by projected release order rather than alphabetical to give us something to speculate about
Let's hope Ninty are a bit more forthcoming about their releases going into 2021
@Shworange TBA/TBD means to be anounced/determined,TBA/TBD is a term that Publishers and game development studios use when they are not sure when the games they made have a release window or definitive release date, they put this terms until they anounce a release window or definitive release date for this games, this link explain what TBA/TBD means in regard to games and other form of media.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_be_announced
Wonder what is happening with Detective Pikachu 2 ? haven't heard a thing about it since it was announced.
Bayonetta 3 for me, think that'll surprise launch soon
@mariomaster96 Bravely Default II is published by Square Enix in Japan, not Nintendo. Hyrule Warriors is published by Koei-Tecmo in Japan.
Wished bravely was this year.
A bit surprised SMT V isn't on that list, since I expect Ninty will be publishing for the overseas release.
Anyway, I'm down for most of those games, with the exception of Fitness Boxing 2 and Bayo 3. I've really dug Nintendo's releases this gen.
This is an abysmal line up. Mainly because there are too few games and the ones on there are mostly TBA. One has to wonder what Nintendo are doing? Doesn’t seem like they are making many games at least.
Of those games, there's a couple I might buy once they hit £20, but not one I'm really excited for. BOTW in particular is going to have to be something really special for me to buy into it.
So they havent abandoned us
I want Buddy Mission BOND in English :cries:
For now, Mario 3D World and Monster Hunter Rise are the ones to look forward to (after HW).
Zelda BotW 2, Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, Pokemon Snap 2, Bravely Default 2, No More Heroes 3, Monster Hunter Stories 2 and Shin Megami Tensei V are all TBA.
@ImagineerNik For me this month it's Miles Morales and AC Valhalla, next month will be Age of Calamity
Nintendo doesn't announce new release dates in their financial reports, so dont expect any news to come out of these other than updated sales numbers.
Don't bother reporting on the "Upcoming software releases" page of Nintendo's financial reports because you will learn nothing new from them.
I'm hoping that BotW2 does what Ezio did for the AC series and adds the story into the impressive tech demo.
I'm calling a "New Switch" BS move in the near future.
All these games we're excited for with be horribly choked on our existing devices and we'll all have to find £300 or more for the right to enjoy them properly.
So Nintendo confirmed very little here. I guess it's nice to know they games aren't canceled though.
@Yorumi I think so unless they do some random shock at that day..
I will be happy when they announce the new Donkey Kong Country game.
@Falien That would be fantastic!
@Yorumi I think Nintendo's treating the physical re-release of Sword/Shield (expansion pass on the cart) as the big holiday title (previous to this year that would be a "3rd version" like Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum and Ultra Sun/Moon).
Looks a bit thin on the ground really considering all the tba games which could be 2022 or beyond...
Will Mario Odyssey ever get a part II? It's my first Mario in a long while, so I really hope they do another.
Metroid Prime 4 (temp.)- TBA
😭😭😭
Oh please l hope Bayonetta comes out next year in November
@Waa-Laa
I was bummed when 3D Allstars released and saw we had to wait until February for 3D World.
I've wanted 3D World on Switch since the console launched. I never finished it, and I just don't feeling bringing my Wii U out to play it.
Why is Metroid Prime 4's name temporary. Has a mainline MP game ever had a subtitle?
Also holy crap. Considering there is likely some sort of pokemon title and possibly a new Mario too, next year is gonna be huge. That is if Metroid, zelda, and Bayonetta all release, which honestly metroid is looking to be more 2022 or 23 at this point considering how many resets and hiring issues they've had
@Grumblevolcano Lol the new dlc as the third version policy is great for those who buy every annual pokemon game, while it sucks for the people who used to wait after each release for the sequel game
surprised that Metroid Prime 4 is a temporary title but New Pokémon Snap isn't
Just give me SMT 5.
@Christofu Prime 2 had "Echoes" and Prime 3 had "Corruption"
@Kirbo100 rightttttt. Never been able to play them myself so I was unsure
Considering a pandemic kinda threw the entire industry back most of the year, give it a break. Wondering where the usual Christmas lineup is, or why the list is so thin is the kinda attitude that lets companies like Rockstar get away with mandatory crunch. At LEAST 90% of us have a backlog. Use this time to turn and devour it and ease up. Honestly aim this more at gamers as a whole this year, but there's a lot of unrealistic expectations flying around in these comments.
Okay I've been serious long enough. If they don't give me a REAL ***** Samus game in the next fifteen minutes I'm going to super missile the core of the ***** planet.
I have kept my hopes up for MP4, but this is just taking too long. I won't be surprised if it's not very impressive.
The headline made it sound like Nintendo was going to do cross platform with Steam! (Windows) So disappointed! Imagine Age of Calamity on Steam with improved fixes and mod support thru the workshop!
@Little_Squee Hmmm what could part II be about? Oh Bowser kidnaps Peach again because they fail to install security systems for the castle to actually slow him down! 🤣🤣🤣
Note security systems won't stop Bowser from kidnapping Peach the purpose is to slow him down enough for guards and or Mario to properly prepare himself instead of just charging in blindly.
@RPGamer Sort of.
@Dizavid How about launch that missile towards Hyrule and blow up the castle? Or perhaps skip the castle and go straight for the Master Sword at Frame Drop Forest I mean Korok Forest?
@Jokerwolf How about a new DK64 done correctly? I didn't mind DK64 but would've loved it if they did what Banjo Tooie did and let worlds interconnect for shortcuts and some were relied on for jiggies such as the gas pipeline of Grunty's Industries between Hailfire Peaks and Jolly Rodgers Bay which winds up polluting the kiddie pool. You have to do a bunch of things there.
@JohnnyC that most likely was the case. They just knew that fan backlash would be much worse if they said that it WAS Pikmin 4.
Pokemon Snap and 3D world are on my radar. I'm holding out hope for a surprise announcement of Pikmin 4, but I feel like they wouldn't release that too closely to Pikmin 3 Deluxe, so it looks like I'll be waiting a while.
Super excited about Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, New Pokémon Snap (kinda) annnnnnnnd BOTW 2!!
Seeing articles about Age of Calamity or BOTW 2 just makes me want to pop in BOTW and play it all day
Bayonetta 3 was definitely announced too early.
Nintendo’s complete 2020 TBA 😂
@Giancarlothomaz
Facetious
adjective
treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant.
"a facetious remark"
I'm not a fan of mainline Pokémon games, but just like the N64 original, Snap is on my day-one list. Obviously BotW2 too.
@MS7000 I don't understand
It's going through what a lot of games go through
Hiring people and being scrapped etc are two things that happen. It's not like this is the first game ever that's outsourcing people, or the first game where development hasn't gone as smoothly as planned
@LilMuku it was meant to be a good-hearted jab, not a serious commentary asking why we didn't have the game now... although I would be lying if I said I didn't want to play it right now.
I am waiting for a Donkey Kong game
Love the announcement that release of games I want is not yet announced. It almost feels like something was announced.
Love the announcement that release of games I want is not yet announced. It almost feels like something was announced
So what games are Nintendo actually making? SM3D world and Zelda BotW 2? Perhaps the lowest productivity they have had since the last year of Wii. Either Covid has knocked them out or they are gearing up for new hardware.
This comment will be announced later. Please stand by.
Keep forgetting about Pokemon Snap 2. Hopefully we will see that in 2021. (Which I'm sure we will) Definitely one of my most anticipated titles. I'm not so into Pokemon anymore outside of that.
@Dizavid Well said. I, for one, am happy to be able to dig into my backlog without worrying about missing a new classic game every week. And while my job is pretty secure, my wife could get laid off any day now as Covid sinks its claws into our area, so buying lots of new games is not a super high priority.
@Shworange go search this term if you dont believe in me, TBA/TBD means to be anounced/determined, where did you see that i was joking?, acess this link and you gonna realize that i was telling the truth all the time.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_be_announced
Super Mario 3d World + Bowsers fury.
Any chance of Pokémon Snap getting a first quarter 2021 release?
@Christofu Metroid Prime 2 have Echoes and Metroid Prime 3 have Corruption and problaby Metroid Prime 4 is gonna have a subtitle like Metroid Prime 4 Revenge or Metroid Prime 4 Downfall.
@Giancarlothomaz
Dude. My point was I told a joke at the beginning. Getting at how many of the dates were TBA, so they’re not really dates. Asking what month TBA is was ME being facetious.
@Giancarlothomaz yeah haha someone else pointed that out. Most fans seem to call them by number so I didn't think about it
@Shworange i see, in this case, TBA can be any month of the year, for example many people incluiding me expect and hope Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 to release during the Holiday season and Bayonetta 3 in Halloween of 2021.
@Christofu yes, is just like the games of the Legend of Zelda franchise, that many fan refer by acronimin or just short the title(Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild,become BOTW or Zelda BOTW).
A lot of great ones!
@Yorumi No. Animal Crossing is their Christmas game. This is -=NEW=- Nintendo. We get one big game per year, and that one's it.
Seriously, though, I still believe they intended to lay low this year with their content, strategically, since it wouldn't get the mindshare it normally would during a massive PS5/XBox marketing year for new hardware. I expected last year that this year would be quiet on the Nintendo front, and they'd come back strong "all about the games" after Sony/MS gets out of the news cycle and dumps their launch window content in the rear view mirror. It's what I'd do if I were Nintendo. A big title now is missing eyeballs where it could have more eyeballs on it in May or June or beyond.
.....
And they have Animal Crossing which I'm certain will overtake Minecraft soon.
@Giancarlothomaz TBA is simultaneously any month and all months that have ever existed.
@Shworange exactly, publishers and games developers like Nintendo put TBA in a game like Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 when they are not decided yet what month Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is gonna release
I blame stay-at-home orders and the pandemic causing a lot of these delays. I was hoping for some of these released in 2021 or at least summer 2021/holiday 2020. But this pandemic has ruined everything. I hope next year is way better, cause everyone's eye is seemingly set for 2021. 2020 is the worst year.
I believe Pikmin 4 is never going to be developed or announced, it's only been 'teased' that it's very close to completion and that was what? E3 2016?
It's definitely a lot of TBA's, but quite a few I'm looking forward to buying...
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Metroid Prime 4
New Pokemon Snap
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
Are all must-buy games for me.
@antonio2244 same here.
I love Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, it's a great game but I'd love for a new DKC game, that wasn't ported over from an older console.
MP4 won't be sooner than 2023.
@Yorumi Hah, yeah. I've been splitting time on the PS and XB side of things recently so I've been less active in this corner of the NLife family of late. But that's just it. For the hardcore, Nintendo would really lose a lot of our interest while the other two are ramping up new platforms, and for the mass market, the other two are unavailable/idle while they wind down the boxes they have so Switch is really the most visible seller.
If anything it does prove that Nintendo made a good decision decoupling from the 7 year cycles of the competition. They get their own generational cycle with eyeballs when they need it, and with their side-market, they can lay low in the years the others do their generational turnarounds.
Right now, I'm all about PSXBox and PC'ers are all on PC. But guaranteed in a year they'll be hitting us with Bayo and BotW2 MP4, and we'll start wondering why we were ignoring Nintendo.
It's not a fun year to be a Nintendo fan, but strategically, this seems like a pretty solid way of doing this year, and they can "soft reboot" with a hardware revision and a tone of 1p games next year, while the other companies are out of the news cycle so much and it's back to the same old.
I kind of agree with Nintendo's quality standards dropping a bit. But we'll see. They haven't even released much to judge by. I like ACNH, but I feel they really made a lot of tradeoffs to "go Minecraft" with it, and left behind some AC charm and functionality. Otherwise this year has been kind of blank. Hyrule Warriors 2, the demo, seems fun. It's just more Musou...but it looks good...of course it's not actually a Nintendo game.....
@Yorumi I agree. Though I think Nintendo likes to do things the way they always do things. A dozen first party games was good enough for a whole console generation in the 90's,l it's still good enough today, darnit!
Especially these days, the alternative is Ubisoft - guaranteed releases from every franchise, every year! Ctrl+C, CTRL+V!
I agree, I don't love the lulls...it's terrible pacing. But I suppose it works for them,and sales show it works for consumers.....only fanboys are unhappy with it I guess?
What I dont' like is the new model of "one big release per year, then pad the rest." Smash year was an all new low, to me. I even liked Smash campaign..but still...
@Yorumi I feel like they're more interested in brand management than creative games. "Good" phoned in games preserve brand value. I also feel like they still haven't figured out how to do HD. They have small team sizes overall, they outsource most content.....so they have to keep it formulaic, simple, and predictable, by the numbers, to manage revenues.
They have, currently, the same problem Playstation has: It's run by financial bean counters, not creatives with a passion or vision. The creatives are there...but they have their marching orders.
