They’ve had a lot of time to work on this too. Mario kart 8 was a rehash of the WiiU version. So maybe the $80 also reflects the development above and beyond expected. I totally anticipate the same price for prime 4.

Would play this. And would recommend to those who have never played.

I hope (and suspect) my kids will love game chat. They would love to see their friends whilst playing and no doubt they wouldn’t care about choppiness of game performance. I think game chat will be a hit with the kids but it will be a pity for the dedicated gamers.

I appreciate the 1.21 gigawatts reference. I was playing my switch, there was a flash of light, then I was in 1985!

I pulled the trigger on a 256Gb card. I intend to download most of my games, my kids switch game cards and how they look after them is atrocious. But starting to worry I’ll be flat out having enough storage for more than 8-16 games this way.

Not everyone will have a comfortable set up with a table. I wonder how many mouse thigh warriors switch 2 will create?

Sadly I never got into SMK. In the SNES era, F-Zero got me first and when I tried SMK later on I just didn’t like it.

Mario Kart 64 will probably forever be my favourite racer though because nostalgia and it was just an era where you played local multiplayer which is probably the most fun way to share a game

That’s a popular claim that I have seen… that PS2 basically was the cheapest DVD player on the market for the longest time. What are people’s thoughts? Is that even a fair claim? If true, it really does tarnish their sales records as ‘best selling console of all time’

For me frogger and quake and goldeneye were pretty neck and neck. Quake was amazing with a loyal following but the original doom was probably that bit more influential in that space. And frogger probably also had some more influential games at that time.

Goldeneye blew me away at the time it dropped in ?1997. I remember thinking that it was like controlling a movie (please don’t laugh at me - it was the 90s!). I basically bought my n64 for goldeneye (and then Zelda dropped).

I only ever played a side scrolling gex on 3DO. It was ok but I’ll pass on this.

I had it in my head switch 1 was at 150 million units. Looks like they project another 4.5 million for this year.
Doesn’t look like switch 1 will crack Playstation 2 unless Nintendo slashes prices or something wild.

Would love some more certainty on prime 4. The wish list is long but Mario kart and prime 4 are the non-negotiable games.

In the unlikely event this ever goes to court, I would be curious to know if Nintendo always planned the June release and April reveal? Or if they changed plans because of Genki. I certainly think the reveal trailer (February) of the reveal trailer was rushed because of Genki.

Not sure what the specific laws are in which ever country they are litigating but someone earlier made a good point. How will Nintendo demonstrate a financial number on their damages?
100% feel that Genki deserves to feel the wrath. But in fact maybe Nintendo isn’t even after damages, maybe they just want to bury genki in legal costs knowing Nintendo has a massive war chest.

Also, we are talking about a pristine new product, the test will be if the ‘smoothness’ persists. For sure Nintendo will have used a machine to manipulate the sticks for hundreds of hours… that’s what product engineers/manufacturers do. And that’s the stick you need to get your hands on.

I’ll go in with an open mind. I wonder how I’ll end up playing? I do worry the narrow mouse ‘base’ will be prone to tilt and loss of contact with a surface. I also worry if people will have a comfortable ‘coffee table’ or other furniture to use the mouse on.

It’s still the only hybrid system.

Also I think Nintendo is learning every now and then you need to consolidate rather than trying to innovate every generation.

I get it that Nintendo is not known for pushing performance, but clearly there had to be some iterative improvement. I feel like people expect the unexpected from Nintendo but don’t realise that this is what they want.

The mouse function, could make FPS brilliant on switch 2. Pointing a wiimote at a screen just burns my shoulders because I’m a piss weak nerd. So just small iterative improvements this gen.

Honestly, following in the shadow of switch 1, switch 2 has to fail. What would be the bar for success? 100 million consoles? Switch 1 probably benefited from covid to a degree and switch 2 now drops in the current global financial mix. But I don’t know what this Sony guy was expecting.
