I would love to see Mario done in a hand-drawn art style, sort of like Rayman Origins/Legends. I feel like it would be a welcome change of direction, while still being able to maintain the core gameplay mechanics. It would feel so fresh and new, yet still familiar.
@Dr_Corndog Referencing an article from over two years ago doesn’t exactly prove anything. Minecraft offering honest DLC skins isn’t the same thing as Rocket League selling constant season passes and blind loot boxes on top of the cost of a full retail game.
@Dr_Corndog Yet somehow a game like Minecraft can continue to provide free updates ten years after release with no season passes or loot boxes. Seems like a hollow excuse.
@Dr_Corndog Except Rocket League isn’t a free game in the first place. I understand microtransactions in a free-to-play game like Fortnite, but Rocket League already costs money to download or buy at retail.
I was going to come into this thread and tout my unpopular opinion by saying that I enjoyed Other M, apart from a few specific story elements. The game was enjoyable through and through, even if it wasn’t exactly a traditional Metroid and had some questionable story beats. But then I saw that several other people here admitting to liking the game, too, instead of jumping on the bandwagon of criticism. Sure, it’s not the best Metroid game, but I found it entertaining.
This is really sad news. Hopefully they can work through this and keep themselves together and keep developing new games, because I really like the Mario and Luigi series.
On another note, I’m surprised anyone is surprised that the Bowser’s Inside Story remake sold poorly. They released a remake of a game that was already playable on 3DS for a full $40 price tag at a time when the 3DS was declining in sales week over week after already being effectively replaced by the Switch. It was a poor choice of game to remaster and a terrible time to release it.
I refuse to spend a penny on any game with a Gacha system. It’s glorified gambling, and in a way it’s worse, since there’s no tangible reward when you win. Fortunately for me, all of these games are hollow and dumbed-down when compared to their console counterparts. So nothing has been lost by skipping them altogether.
I’ve got one more mission to finish the Blue Lions leg of Three Houses and one last dungeon in Link’s Awakening. Here’s hoping I’ll find time to wrap those up.
I remember playing this game on PC way back in early high school and loving it so much. I’m afraid to pick it up again for fear that I am remembering it fondly through the rose-tinted lenses of nostalgia. Maybe it’s best left alone.
Can the human eye even detect a difference between 1080P and 4K on such a small screen? Not that it matters, since (as pointed out several times in this thread) the Switch caps out at outputs of 1080P, anyway. This seems like the biggest waste of money I’ve ever seen.
Found Link’s Awakening on sale, so i picked it up, despite being nowhere near finished with Three Houses. I’ll be stopping by Tetris 99 to nab the Kirby theme, plus hopefully putting another dent in Dragon Quest VIII.
As much as I like the look of the console and the price, the premise of never, ever being able to play my games on the TV and potentially getting stuck with a drifting analog stick that can’t be replaced have put me off altogether.
Looking forward to giving this a go, though it’s gonna have to wait. For the first time in a long time, I’m not getting a Zelda game at launch. I’ve got way too much to finish first.
@sanderev Lack of power wasn’t the GameCube’s problem. The GameCube was technically more powerful than the PS2 and only marginally behind the original XBox.
This game oozes charm and I want it, despite not being much of an RPG fan. The challenge will be finding time to play, given the avalanche of games coming out lately.
I passed on the NES controllers, but I might pick up one of these. The NES library simply doesn’t hold my attention anymore, but I could play SNES games pretty much infinitely.
@Ardisan ROB is a toy that was designed to work exclusively with a video game. He only existed because of the video game and would never have been produced otherwise. He is as connected to gaming as any controller, cartridge or console would be.
@BlueBlur101 I find it funny when people refer to Smash as having an “aesthetic”. You’re talking about a game that features characters that look like Kirby and Pikachu alongside the likes of Bayonetta and Ridley. There is no rhyme or reason to what the characters look like and certainly no unifying aesthetic. The only thing all of these characters have in common is that they have originated in video games, and the overwhelming majority of them are Nintendo properties. Take away the video game theme and the game makes no sense whatsoever.
Hoping to finish Dragon Quest VIII before XI releases, so I’m trying to blast through that on 3DS. Such a charming and enjoyable game. I’m also hoping to put another dent in Three Houses, but from what I gather I’m still light years away from finishing that mammoth of a game.
I don’t see why the text was changed. Sure, the subject matter is dark, but it’s supposed to be. The line was intended to create sympathy for Bernadetta on the part of a player, and now it’s kind of vague and doesn’t quite hit as hard. Plus, the overall meaning is the same, so changing the wordage doesn’t seem to have done anything except lessen the impact and create less sympathy for the character.
That same translation quoted Sakurai as saying that non-gaming characters (like Iron Man and Goku specifically) have no place in Smash. I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned in this article.
I find it kind of funny how many news articles there have been about this product on a Nintendo site, seeing as it has nothing to do with Nintendo. That said, I do appreciate the review.
Makes me think of one of the Space Pirate logs from the original Prime when they tried to replicate her suit and all test subjects were horribly crushed when attempting to activate the Morph Ball, haha. But that aside, this is the most impressive Samus cosplay I’ve ever seen. And his Captain Falcon is pretty amazing, too.
I still find myself in awe of the Switch’s continued sales momentum. It was just a couple years ago when we’d find ourselves saying the Wii U had a “good week” when it would sell over 5,000 units.
Setting expectations low, so they will be met or exceeded. Kind of strange to do it so late in the day. Historically, they seem to fall around 10 AM ET.
I certainly can’t blame anyone for wanting this game on the console they own, but becoming whiny and entitled when it doesn’t happen is another story, let alone “review bombing” a game you’ve never played. That said, I hate the term “port begging,” especially when it’s used in a derogatory way to refer to someone who simply wishes to play a game on a console they own. Hoping for ports and discussing those hopes are harmless. Some people get way too offended by wishful thinking.
@Rexx Gotcha. I didn’t mean to come across as critical. And honestly, I’m also pretty disappointed that the DLC characters all seem to be coming from third-parties. I was really hoping for more in-house characters, as well.

That good, eh? Well, I’ll add it to the pile of games I need to play.

@PorllM The Wii Shopping Channel has been entirely disconnected at this point. You can’t even re-download software you previously purchased anymore.
EDIT: Someone beat me to it, haha.
