I was one of the Kickstarter backers, But seeing as the game has an MSRP of $40 and I paid just over that as a backer for just a physical copy with no extras, I kind of wish I just bought it standard retail when it released. I will be particularly disappointed if I don’t receive the game in the mail before it releases commercially. I’m hoping a little bit extra I had to pay ensures I will at least get to play it a little bit early.
Waiting so long to release such small updates seems like such an odd decision. I moved on from this game months ago, and a couple minigames aren’t enough to drag me back in. Had they launched this a month or two after the game released or made this DLC much more substantial, I’d have been tempted.
@RupeeClock I have had absolutely zero issues sourcing reliable information about the games I play on the internet. Besides, the information in that Animal Crossing guide became obsolete as soon as Nintendo released the Bunny Day update. That sounds far more unreliable to me.
@ballistic90 My thoughts exactly. There’s something still kind of charming about a physical strategy guide, and I bought the last one Prima made for Smash Ultimate as a collector’s item, but it’s already obsolete. It fascinates me that anybody can still sell these things anymore, given free access to information on the Internet and constant updates rendering them out of date almost immediately.
I forgot about The Wonderful 101 coming out next month. Supported the Kickstarter so just waiting for my copy to arrive. Other than that, the only thing here that really caught my eye was Xenoblade, and I’ve already got that pre-ordered and paid for, as well. The release schedule seems to be a little bit slow for the near future, but my wallet and backlog are enjoying the hiatus.
@DrDaisy The whining over Bayonetta 2 becoming a Nintendo exclusive makes even less sense when you consider that Nintendo itself paid for the production and publishing of that entire game. It literally would not exist without Nintendo bankrolling it.
The latter half of the article put it best. Porting games to Stadia is super quick and easy, plus there’s no production cost for physical media or problems if a bunch of discs or cartridges get left unsold. This makes absolute sense for EA, especially considering Google is probably handing them a fat check for this.
And frankly, how many people here would actually buy games made by EA if they ported them to Switch? The general sentiment among everyone here is that they are the devil and nobody should support them, anyway. Honestly, I haven’t been interested in a single game they’ve made since Beetle Adventure Racing on the N64. When they remaster that game or release a sequel, then I’ll start complaining if we don’t see it on Switch. Until then, I really couldn’t care less.
The eShops in question here are barely eShops to begin with. They’re simply skeleton shops that exist solely for the purpose of redeeming download codes. I fully expect the full-fledged 3DS eShops in larger territories (which are still generating revenue, unlike the “limited” ones being closed) to continue on for several more years. Remember, as long as Nintendo keeps selling 3DS bundles in retail stores, the eShop needs to exist to redeem the bundled software. What you’ll see long before the eShops go away is discontinuation of online gaming on older devices, and we’re not even there yet. Relax, people.
Besides, if they can the Wii U and 3DS eShops, what will My Nintendo offer for rewards? They’ve made it abundantly clear that Switch titles are out of the question.
Im finally at the point in Animal Crossing: New Horizons where I’ve got my house maxed out and my island more or less the way I want it. So now I don’t have to play for hours on end every day and therefore can just do my daily in-game tasks and focus on other games. I have to compulsively play Tetris 99 to get that new theme, plus I kinda got readdicted to ARMS now that there are people playing online again. And the huge update in Super Mario Maker 2 has me once again browsing the Course World to see what people are doing with all the new parts.
It feels redundant to post, but I’ll be playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons like everyone else under the sun. I’m slowly filling my town with the choicest neighbors via my collection of amiibo cards, but it’s taking some time, seeing as you have to entertain each candidate at the campsite for three days. Other than that, I’ve just begun the third game in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and I’ll be filling the gaps in between Animal Crossing sessions with that game.
@BlubberWhale I managed to avoid dying and got to see the secret ending. I won’t spoil it for you, but it’s definitely not worth restarting for if you’re eight hours in. Just look it up on YouTube or something once you’ve finished the game.
I did! I actually ended up buying it just a couple days later when I saw it for $10 off. I wound up beating it in just a couple days. It was amazingly charming. I plan on going back to play it again and get all the heart pieces this time. Lord knows I’ll have plenty of time at home to play, haha.
Oof. Glad I went digital. Animal Crossing is the kind of game I want to boot up a bit each day, anyway, so having to swap out a game card every time I want to play definitely makes things more difficult.
I finished Ori and the Blind Forest two days ago and I can safely say it’s one of the best game experiences I’ve had in years. I was hoping it would have lasted me another week to get me to Animal Crossing, but now I’ve got to find something from my backlog to play for the next seven days to tide me over. I’m thinking I should finally crack open Undertale or maybe just play something lighter, like the story mode in Just Shapes and Beats or just just do some busy work like breeding and training some more Pokémon in Pokémon Shield. But seeing as I’ll be inside more than usual over the next few days to avoid the coronavirus, I might be able to get all of that stuff done before next Friday.
I see no reason why they can’t just do a Direct and a Treehouse presentation in June anyway, from their offices. E3 has been largely irrelevant for years.
I have four pairs of JoyCon and only one of them has occasionally drifted. My wife’s Switch’s JoyCon both fell victim to some pretty nasty drift after only a short while. I sent them in to be repaired last week and the turnaround was pretty fast. They are already on their way back and the process was pretty painless. At least that’s the case here in America. I’m under the impression it’s not as easy for free to get them fixed in other countries.
I just finished the postgame of Dragon Quest XI the other day and it was amazing, through and through. I wanted something relatively brief from my backlog to keep me entertained until Animal Crossing comes out, so I chose Ori and the Blind Forest. After four hours of the game, I’m thoroughly mesmerized and know I will be voraciously playing this game all weekend. Believe the hype.
I know I’m in the minority, but I’d much prefer the second fighter’s pass to focus entirely on first-party characters.
And people getting hung up on “too many sword fighters” need to get over it. There are tons of sword fighters in Smash because there are tons of sword fighters in video games. It’s perfectly representative of gaming as a whole. Makes total sense. There are way more characters that fight with punches and kicks, yet you never hear complaints about “yet another unarmed fighter.”
Years ago I got to the final boss of the original Xenoblade and found myself underleveled and unable to beat it. I swore I would go back and grind the necessary experience to finish the game, but I never did. I’m really glad to get a chance to try it again, but this time with a lovely new coat of HD paint.
Anyone with half a brain can tell you that Smash will continue on in some form in the future, with or without Sakurai. Nintendo isn’t going to abandon a series that sells this well. And of course there are “no plans for future Smash games” at the moment. They’re still working on the current game. “No plans currently” does not equal “no plans ever”.
@NEStalgia True, but that “hype machine” is among the existing fans of Persona. I’m saying that some people (like me) who might have been casually drawn to investigate Persona by Joker in Smash have lost interest over time and have moved on to other things.
@NEStalgia I understand my personal level of enthusiasm isn’t indicative of the Persona fanbase. I’m just saying that there may be others like me whose interest in Persona was piqued by Joker’s inclusion in Smash who might have impulsively bought P5 on Switch last summer. I’m not typically into massive JRPGs, but occasionally I’ll give them a go, especially if a character from a JRPG is included in Smash and catches my interest. I did that with Hero and Dragon Quest XI and now I’m obsessed.
I’m kind of over it. I definitely would have been sucked into buying a theoretical Switch port of Persona 5 back when Joker released in Smash, but as my personal level of hype faded and I moved on, I realize at this point I don’t have 100+ hours to spare on a game like Persona 5, and having played about 75% of Persona Q2 on 3DS, I can’t say the Persona characters and universe are all that appealing to me. Atlus’ inability to read demand saved me 60 bucks, I suppose.
I’m in the process of finally getting around to finishing this game, and I’ve been able to enjoy the whole thing in co-op with a friend. We’ve collected everything on every floor and just have to take on the final boss. I can’t overstate how charming and enjoyable this game is, and I dare say it’s one of the best looking games on Switch.
Interesting. So talks about Banjo really began around the time Ultimate was officially shown at E3 2018, and he was unveiled a year later. Kind of puts into perspective how long it takes for a character idea to become a reality in Smash.
I might be the only one, but I despise the look of mismatched JoyCon, and it bothers me on a fundamental level that certain colors are only available as exclusively left or right.
@HobbitGamer Once again, it’s humanity’s failure to cooperate that’s the real problem. And sadly the victims here will be the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.
It’s scary to see it spread so fast, but it only has a 2 percent mortality rate? The media hypes this thing up as the next Black Plague. I’m not trying to trivialize the deaths so far, though, and my sympathies go out to the victims and their families.

I find it funny that people keep saying the 3DS isn’t “dead” because they still play it. The article clearly is referring to the fact that in the market sense, the 3DS is slowing to the point of stopping in sales and Nintendo itself is closing up shop. They already did so early last year, in terms of releasing new software for the 3DS. That said, I still pick up mine a couple times a week. There are still tons of games I have yet to finish on 3DS, and it’s far easier to travel with than the Switch, which can’t fit into a pocket and has a delicate, exposed screen.
I’d jump on this, but Animal Crossing is one of the few series where I always buy digital, if possible. I want to be able to jump in and out of it easily and frequently and juggling a game card will make that difficult.

Then, in May of 2018 he was asked if he would still be willing to let that happen on Twitter and simply replied, “Yep.” At that point, a deal may have been in progress, which explains his very short reply.
@IceClimbers Phil made comments about Banjo, but if I recall, they were all made well before Ultimate was a thing, back in the Smash 4 era. And I don’t recall him ever saying that it wasn’t going to happen. He simply said he would be open to it if Nintendo was.
These guys are saying that Doomguy was talked about but nothing materialized, and they said so very recently, well after November, when Sakurai confirmed the characters were already decided. It’s quite a different story.
The characters for Fighter Pass 2 were decided back in November. If there’s nothing definitive to be said about Doomguy in Smash by now from an official and reliable source like this, it’s not happening.
I always feel it’s unfair to lump two versions of the game together as a single sales figure. There are some people (myself included) who buy both versions of Pokémon games, skewing the numbers.
@Reigestugatensho You misunderstood me. I meant that when a Mii is wearing the Sans or Cuphead costume, the Mii’s face is completely invisible, so aesthetically in battle, it’s as if Sans and Cuphead are playable characters and not Miis (despite having a Mii moveset). The other costumes reveal the Miis face, breaking that illusion.
@Kirby_Girl Again, never said I begrudge anyone being disappointed, so if that’s all you are, then clearly you weren’t among the people I referred to as acting entitled.
Love the Cuphead costume. Like Sans, it essentially adds another playable character (at least aesthetically), since the Mii isn’t visible at all. I’m hoping they do more of those.
