Re: The Wonderful 101: Remastered File Size And Other Details Revealed

thesilverbrick

I was one of the Kickstarter backers, But seeing as the game has an MSRP of $40 and I paid just over that as a backer for just a physical copy with no extras, I kind of wish I just bought it standard retail when it released. I will be particularly disappointed if I don’t receive the game in the mail before it releases commercially. I’m hoping a little bit extra I had to pay ensures I will at least get to play it a little bit early.

Re: Have You Seen The Size Of This Animal Crossing: New Horizons Strategy Guide?

thesilverbrick

@ballistic90 My thoughts exactly. There’s something still kind of charming about a physical strategy guide, and I bought the last one Prima made for Smash Ultimate as a collector’s item, but it’s already obsolete. It fascinates me that anybody can still sell these things anymore, given free access to information on the Internet and constant updates rendering them out of date almost immediately.

Re: Video: 19 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In May

thesilverbrick

I forgot about The Wonderful 101 coming out next month. Supported the Kickstarter so just waiting for my copy to arrive. Other than that, the only thing here that really caught my eye was Xenoblade, and I’ve already got that pre-ordered and paid for, as well. The release schedule seems to be a little bit slow for the near future, but my wallet and backlog are enjoying the hiatus.

Re: Random: Switch Fans React To EA's Partnership With Google Stadia

thesilverbrick

The latter half of the article put it best. Porting games to Stadia is super quick and easy, plus there’s no production cost for physical media or problems if a bunch of discs or cartridges get left unsold. This makes absolute sense for EA, especially considering Google is probably handing them a fat check for this.

And frankly, how many people here would actually buy games made by EA if they ported them to Switch? The general sentiment among everyone here is that they are the devil and nobody should support them, anyway. Honestly, I haven’t been interested in a single game they’ve made since Beetle Adventure Racing on the N64. When they remaster that game or release a sequel, then I’ll start complaining if we don’t see it on Switch. Until then, I really couldn’t care less.

Re: Nintendo To Shutdown "Limited" Wii U And 3DS eShops In Select Countries

thesilverbrick

The eShops in question here are barely eShops to begin with. They’re simply skeleton shops that exist solely for the purpose of redeeming download codes. I fully expect the full-fledged 3DS eShops in larger territories (which are still generating revenue, unlike the “limited” ones being closed) to continue on for several more years. Remember, as long as Nintendo keeps selling 3DS bundles in retail stores, the eShop needs to exist to redeem the bundled software. What you’ll see long before the eShops go away is discontinuation of online gaming on older devices, and we’re not even there yet. Relax, people.
Besides, if they can the Wii U and 3DS eShops, what will My Nintendo offer for rewards? They’ve made it abundantly clear that Switch titles are out of the question.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 25th)

thesilverbrick

Im finally at the point in Animal Crossing: New Horizons where I’ve got my house maxed out and my island more or less the way I want it. So now I don’t have to play for hours on end every day and therefore can just do my daily in-game tasks and focus on other games. I have to compulsively play Tetris 99 to get that new theme, plus I kinda got readdicted to ARMS now that there are people playing online again. And the huge update in Super Mario Maker 2 has me once again browsing the Course World to see what people are doing with all the new parts.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 4th)

thesilverbrick

It feels redundant to post, but I’ll be playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons like everyone else under the sun. I’m slowly filling my town with the choicest neighbors via my collection of amiibo cards, but it’s taking some time, seeing as you have to entertain each candidate at the campsite for three days. Other than that, I’ve just begun the third game in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and I’ll be filling the gaps in between Animal Crossing sessions with that game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 14th)

thesilverbrick

I finished Ori and the Blind Forest two days ago and I can safely say it’s one of the best game experiences I’ve had in years. I was hoping it would have lasted me another week to get me to Animal Crossing, but now I’ve got to find something from my backlog to play for the next seven days to tide me over. I’m thinking I should finally crack open Undertale or maybe just play something lighter, like the story mode in Just Shapes and Beats or just just do some busy work like breeding and training some more Pokémon in Pokémon Shield. But seeing as I’ll be inside more than usual over the next few days to avoid the coronavirus, I might be able to get all of that stuff done before next Friday.

Re: Nintendo's Request To Dismiss Joy-Con Drift Lawsuit Gets Rejected

thesilverbrick

I have four pairs of JoyCon and only one of them has occasionally drifted. My wife’s Switch’s JoyCon both fell victim to some pretty nasty drift after only a short while. I sent them in to be repaired last week and the turnaround was pretty fast. They are already on their way back and the process was pretty painless. At least that’s the case here in America. I’m under the impression it’s not as easy for free to get them fixed in other countries.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 7th)

thesilverbrick

I just finished the postgame of Dragon Quest XI the other day and it was amazing, through and through. I wanted something relatively brief from my backlog to keep me entertained until Animal Crossing comes out, so I chose Ori and the Blind Forest. After four hours of the game, I’m thoroughly mesmerized and know I will be voraciously playing this game all weekend. Believe the hype.

Re: Sora Named "Most Wanted" Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC Fighter In Recent Japanese Poll

thesilverbrick

I know I’m in the minority, but I’d much prefer the second fighter’s pass to focus entirely on first-party characters.
And people getting hung up on “too many sword fighters” need to get over it. There are tons of sword fighters in Smash because there are tons of sword fighters in video games. It’s perfectly representative of gaming as a whole. Makes total sense. There are way more characters that fight with punches and kicks, yet you never hear complaints about “yet another unarmed fighter.”

Re: Atlus Says Its Survey Asking About Switch Ports Exceeded Expectations

thesilverbrick

@NEStalgia I understand my personal level of enthusiasm isn’t indicative of the Persona fanbase. I’m just saying that there may be others like me whose interest in Persona was piqued by Joker’s inclusion in Smash who might have impulsively bought P5 on Switch last summer. I’m not typically into massive JRPGs, but occasionally I’ll give them a go, especially if a character from a JRPG is included in Smash and catches my interest. I did that with Hero and Dragon Quest XI and now I’m obsessed.

Re: Atlus Says Its Survey Asking About Switch Ports Exceeded Expectations

thesilverbrick

I’m kind of over it. I definitely would have been sucked into buying a theoretical Switch port of Persona 5 back when Joker released in Smash, but as my personal level of hype faded and I moved on, I realize at this point I don’t have 100+ hours to spare on a game like Persona 5, and having played about 75% of Persona Q2 on 3DS, I can’t say the Persona characters and universe are all that appealing to me. Atlus’ inability to read demand saved me 60 bucks, I suppose.

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th January (North America)

thesilverbrick

Not sure if the Dark Crystal game will be any good, but the Netflix series is excellent. My wife grew up watching the original movie back in the 80s and the two of us are loving seeing the world and characters they’ve brought to life in the prequel series. And frankly, it’s just rare to find anything new with puppetry and practical effects anymore.

Re: The Poor Old Nintendo 3DS Has Sold Just 620,000 Units In The Past Nine Months

thesilverbrick

I find it funny that people keep saying the 3DS isn’t “dead” because they still play it. The article clearly is referring to the fact that in the market sense, the 3DS is slowing to the point of stopping in sales and Nintendo itself is closing up shop. They already did so early last year, in terms of releasing new software for the 3DS. That said, I still pick up mine a couple times a week. There are still tons of games I have yet to finish on 3DS, and it’s far easier to travel with than the Switch, which can’t fit into a pocket and has a delicate, exposed screen.

Re: DOOM Director Says The Team Has "Bantered" With Nintendo Asking For Doomguy In Smash Bros.

thesilverbrick

@IceClimbers Phil made comments about Banjo, but if I recall, they were all made well before Ultimate was a thing, back in the Smash 4 era. And I don’t recall him ever saying that it wasn’t going to happen. He simply said he would be open to it if Nintendo was.
These guys are saying that Doomguy was talked about but nothing materialized, and they said so very recently, well after November, when Sakurai confirmed the characters were already decided. It’s quite a different story.
