Re: Fire Emblem's Byleth Confirmed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Fighter

thesilverbrick

@Kirby_Girl I never said people couldn’t be disappointed. And frankly, Byleth wasn’t at all on my list of characters I wanted. Everybody just jumps on the bandwagon of condemning the character before they’ve even played him. I just think it’s funny. Sure, he’s from Fire Emblem, and there are definitely a disproportionate amount of characters from that series in Smash, but It’s obvious from the presentation that his moveset is very fresh and unique. I’m approaching him with an open mind.
Go ahead, be disappointed. Nobody is stopping you. What I was referring to is entitled people who go off on a rant that this is a dumb choice because it’s not the character they wanted and act as if Sakurai has to cater to them and their individual choices and tastes at all times. The way I see it, the five characters we got in this pass are all remarkably different. There’s really something in there for everybody. Not every character released is going to be the one you wanted. The sooner you accept that, the happier you’ll be.

The entitled, whiny fallout from this is going to be hilarious. Honestly, I think he looks great and definitely plays very differently from every other Fire Emblem fighter. And deep down, I’m just glad to have a first party character. I feel like the game was losing its original Nintendo focus with so many third-party DLC characters. Plus, the music from Three Houses is phenomenal.

Re: More Than 200 Old Pokémon Are Being Added To Sword And Shield's National Dex

thesilverbrick

I honestly like how they’ve done this. Sure, they still have not restored the entire Pokédex, but in theory, if you’ve kept up with the franchise until now, you don’t need to buy expansion pass at all. You can download the free update and transfer your old Pokémon forward with Home and trade for the rest. (People complaining that you can’t personally catch them all without the expansion seem to forget that there has never been a single generation of Pokémon since the original Red and Blue were you could catch everything within a single pair of games.)
And for those who want to adventure more, there’s more content to be purchased, but it’s entirely optional. My only issue is that I think the expansion should be universal across both versions once you purchase it. Seems pretty cheap to have to buy the same expansion twice for both Sword and Shield.

Re: Random: Now Pokémon Sword And Shield Haters Are Asking Trump To Halt Sales Of The Game

@SquallLeonhart86 If you don’t like a game, vote with your wallet. Don’t buy it. It’s really that simple. The solution isn’t to try to take it away from others who enjoy it. And of course this petition isn’t going to actually do anything. It’s just disappointing to see that some people think their personal views on a game are so important that nobody else should be able to enjoy it.

Re: Random: Now Pokémon Sword And Shield Haters Are Asking Trump To Halt Sales Of The Game

@SquallLeonhart86 Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I would never insist someone like Sword and Shield. And I would never deign to tell someone they can’t be unhappy with a product they don’t like. But trying to remove it from the market to spite those who may still enjoy it is one of the most entitled and ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. These people are effectively saying that nobody else should be able to play it just because it didn’t meet their expectations. They are the ones demanding a specific reaction out of others, the very thing you’re accusing me of. You honestly don’t see anything wrong with that attitude?

Re: Random: Now Pokémon Sword And Shield Haters Are Asking Trump To Halt Sales Of The Game

The sheer amount of entitlement contained in this letter makes me physically ill. I’m the first to admit the new Pokémon games have glaring flaws, but to take it this far you have to be the absolute worst kind of person. This does not bode well for humanity. I realize it may actually be trolling, but it’s intended to prove a point, that there are actual people out there with this kind of disturbing attitude and sense of entitlement. I hate people so much.

Re: Review: Pokémon Sword And Shield - A Solid Start To Gen 8 On Switch, Despite The Hate

thesilverbrick

As much as it pains me to leave over half of my Pokémon behind, I am looking forward to playing this game. Here’s hoping they reverse their decision and eventually make an eighth generation game that features the entire national Pokédex. I don’t even care if you can’t catch them all in a single game, but just let me import my collection. As it stands, certain Pokémon will never be able to battle others ever again if they keep dropping them in and out. It feels hollow and incomplete.

Re: Doug Bowser Refuses To Read The Last Rites For The Nintendo 3DS Just Yet

thesilverbrick

@SlowPokemon It’s not that people want the 3DS to die. I think it’s more so that it’s painfully obvious that Nintendo is done supporting the 3DS with new games and they just won’t admit it. The canned PR speech they keep giving rings hollow when we all know they’ve pretty much put the 3DS out to pasture to die and have no intention of bringing anything new to the table. I think people just want them to admit it and stop dancing around what we all know to be true.

Re: Sakurai Says Fatal Fury's Mai Isn't In Smash Because The Game "Is For Good Boys And Girls"

thesilverbrick

@mlj11 Fair enough. I definitely agree that the video game industry as a whole and entertainment in general tend to be horrified by even the slightest sexual content while constantly showcasing gratuitous realistic violence. It does seem a little bit backwards, and I will agree with you on that. I just think Smash is consistent across the board, walking a careful line when it comes to realistic violence and explicit sexuality. There’s definitely light themes of both in there, but nothing hypocritical, one way or the other.

Re: Sakurai Says Fatal Fury's Mai Isn't In Smash Because The Game "Is For Good Boys And Girls"

thesilverbrick

@mlj11 Violence and sexuality exist to varying degrees. Pretending that all violence is the same is a little absurd, don’t you think? There’s definitely a marked difference between the slapstick punching and kicking in Smash and the total dismemberment and fountains of blood in something like, say, Mortal Kombat. The developers of Smash have made efforts to tone down the violence to make it non-realistic and akin something that could appear in children’s programming. The game is deemed by the ESRB to be appropriate for children 10 and up. Anyone with any sense can see that the violence in Smash is completely different from the violence portrayed in M rated titles. Pretending there’s no difference between them is quite a stretch.

The same holds true for sexual content. Smash does tolerate some sensuality. One look at characters like Bayonetta and Zero Suit Samus will tell you that the game is not afraid of displaying the female form. But the line has to be drawn somewhere to maintain the ESRB rating. Mai is quite close to being nude in her canon appearances and as pointed out by others, she even uses her nudity as a weapon in the games she’s featured in. So the developers have decided to leave her out entirely instead of censoring her to be something that she isn’t.

Re: Sakurai Says Fatal Fury's Mai Isn't In Smash Because The Game "Is For Good Boys And Girls"

thesilverbrick

Sure, Bayonetta and Zero Suit Samus might be considered sexualized in a sense, but they’re completely covered by their clothing, as skin-tight as it may be. Mai, on the other hand, is barely wearing clothes in the places one might deem necessary, and if she were modeled in 3D in the KoF stage, it’d difficult for the development team to represent her accurately while not risking the game’s ESRB rating. Remember, too, that Bayonetta is heavily censored in Smash when compared to her appearance in her original games. They even went so far as to put nylon mesh in the holes on her leggings.
