@FirstEmperor The Skyward Sword JoyCon are made a little bit differently. They have a little bit of extra padding on the back of the stick ensemble that for some reason prevents drift. I’ve had five different pairs, and those are the only ones that never developed a drift.
@Mauzuri Yeah, it’s hard to pick just one favorite. They’re all compelling in their own way and the way their interactions are written and grow organically is masterful storytelling. It’s a great game in every way.
@Mauzuri I appreciate the heads up. I’ll push through, if nothing else than to see where the plot goes.
I just met her, but Futaba intrigues me the most. The circumstances surrounding her introduction to the cast and her unique way of interacting with the Metaverse make me think she’s going to factor into the game in some really clever ways.
I’m not generally an RPG player, but I’ve recently become obsessed with this game after starting it on Switch. I just cleared the fourth palace, and the gameplay loop and narrative keep me hooked.
@Serpenterror I don’t play mobile games at all. And I’m completely aware of the small icons on older memory cards used to represent the games. Using just a tiny photo to represent a game makes sense when the size of the icons is small. But when you’re trying to represent a game library, some indication of the name of the game is actually not just stylistically more pleasant to me and others, but it’s also very helpful for somebody who is unfamiliar with the library when navigating said menu. Plus, game icons on the Switch home screen are fairly large and take up a significant portion of the screen, so using some of that space to actually showcase the game’s title makes perfect sense, unlike on a mobile phone or an array of tiny save data icons. If you like simple icons with no titles, more power to you. To each his own.
I like having the game title in an icon on Switch. Otherwise it gives off mobile game vibes. It’s not a dealbreaker, but the fact that the developers care enough to change it says a lot about them.
They’ve been better about releasing enough figures to meet demand lately, so I’m not as worried about snagging one of each of these. The initial waves tend to sell out fast but then stores wind up with crazy overstock, as seen with the Zelda/Loftwing and Metroid double pack, which are still languishing on shelves everywhere.
Im three palaces into Persona 5 at the moment and I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I’m enjoying myself, especially since I struggle to focus enough to stick with lengthy RPGs. If I manage to get through P5, I may pick up these two, and I’m hoping someone does a physical release, even if Atlus doesn’t.
It’s nice to get some more characters, and usually I like the model of releasing new content over time to keep the player base coming back, but this game is so tremendously barebones. There are almost no modes to play, and once you blow through the limited tournaments, there’s essentially nothing to do offline whatsoever. I would’ve gladly taken new modes over characters and stadiums.
I’m seriously hoping they release more stages as the season goes on. I won’t be able to handle only getting two of them every three months or so. The previous two games were so much better about releasing new content regularly.
Absolutely not. The Pokémon all have species names for a reason.
Also, if you nickname something based on what it looks like when you catch it, it sometimes evolves into something with a nickname that doesn’t quite work anymore.
The only time I will ever break tradition is occasionally when it comes to Mr. Mime. If I happen to catch a female, I will occasionally name it Ms. or Mrs. Mime.
I’m guessing this means no more DLC, then. I know the game fell off the map really quickly and it will always be unfavorably compared to Smash, but it was fun in its own right.
I am seriously surprised that they’ve taken over a month and a half to come out with a single new stage or weapon. Splatoon 2 was introducing new stuff right out of the gate almost weekly. I hate to say it, but this game has gotten stale.
She had every right to turn down the offer if she felt it wasn’t enough, but calling for a boycott instead of walking away gracefully kind of seems childish.
I think the characters look really good. It’s obviously not exactly what we’ve seen in the games, but it has enough of its own identity and the style lends itself to great levels of facial expression while maintaining familiarity. I think they struck a very good balance.
It felt like every other game was a farm simulator. Why in the world they had to spend several minutes at a time on a bunch of games that look so similar is beyond me. There were a couple gems in there, but for the first Direct in a very long time, it definitely underwhelmed.
64 was my first and its battle mode will never be beaten. Why won’t modern Mario Kart let you play an elimination mode? I loathe 8 Deluxe’s mechanic where nobody is ever knocked out.
@piitaahh To be fair, that’s exactly what I did with Xenoblade 2 before I beat the first one. It worked out for me in the end, as I eventually got through them both, and I wish you the same luck!
The impact of this would’ve been so much greater if it launched years ago to coincide with Joker being released in Smash, but better late than never, I guess.
And for what? Does Nintendo lose anything by letting someone make what is essentially fanart featuring compositions they own? Since they don’t sell the soundtracks themselves, the answer is clearly no. Sure, they have the right to do this, but it accomplishes absolutely nothing positive. All this does is create bad press for Nintendo. Sometimes their foolishness truly baffles me.
My game is glitched to the point where I have six playable characters at all times in Free Play, many of them duplicates. Nothing seems to fix it. I’ve tried resetting, going into story missions, changing planets, etc. It’s obnoxious and game breaking and it’s ruined my desire to play the game, which is disappointing, since I’m at 70% completion.
I generally tend to enjoy playing as non-human characters in any game with a wide selection of playable characters. I almost never gravitate toward characters that look like me or represent my demographics. If there’s a dinosaur or robot, that’s the one I’m picking.
@Croarus Haha, hasn’t it? You’ll have to forgive me for being less than optimistic. I had just struggled through nearly five rough years of the Wii U. I’m certainly happy to have been proven wrong.
@IronDaughter I can’t see Nintendo ever doing that. They won’t even acknowledge JoyCon drift, never mind admit to potentially offensive depictions of trans people in one of their games.
Mother 3 isn’t coming to the West. The Magypsies are way too problematic and with the current social climate there’s no way they wouldn’t be seen as offensive. And they’re too integral to the plot to be removed or replaced. The outcry would be huge and Nintendo doesn’t want that kind of heat.
@Crono1973 Sure, they could have. But they also could have bundled the three PS1 Final Fantasy games together and they didn’t. Selling it separately wouldn’t exactly be out of character for Square Enix. Regardless, I’m sure they don’t want to give it away for basically free as a Switch Online game when they could sell it themselves, which was my original point.
@Crono1973 Square will likely release Chrono Trigger as a stand-alone game on Switch, like they’ve done with most of the Final Fantasy games. Either that or they could remaster it in the Octopath Traveler engine. They’re not going to give it away for essentially free via Switch Online when they can monetize it.
Nintendo has already pretty much given us all of their first party NES and SNES titles. Third parties aren’t as likely to give their games away for essentially free when they can sell them in separate collections (like Konami has done with Castlevania and Capcom with Mega Man). Realistically, I don’t expect much more in terms of high profile NES and SNES games. People hoping to see SNES RPGs like Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy are dreaming.
I’m pumped to play this on Friday. Kirby games are therapeutic for me. No pressure, no convoluted narrative, no intricate or confusing mechanics. Just pure platforming goodness with bright colors and a fire soundtrack. And it’s all so cute it hurts.
I have to admit this looks better than it did in the initial screenshots, but certain elements, like the trees, are just so dull looking when compared to what this game already offered years ago. It wouldn’t bother me so much if the base game weren't so absolutely detailed and gorgeous, but the graphical disparity between the original courses and the Booster Pass ones is just hard to ignore.
Hopefully this intentional lag carries over to Donkey Kong 64 when it inevitably releases. The Wii U version of the game ran so smoothly and quickly that certain minigames were impossible, like the one where you had to shoot the banana in amongst the Kongs before the lights went out. The lights-out transition happened so fast that it was impossible to react quickly enough and complete the minigame at higher difficulties.
It’s hard to pick just one, but Majora is so unbelievably impactful and compelling. Ocarina paved the way for 3D Zelda, but Majora hit me emotionally in a way no game really has since.
@tka060681 Or give the DLC packs permanently to anyone subscribed for over a year. I understand they don’t want people to just subscribe for a month or so and get a bunch of free stuff just to quit. But if someone is a committed subscriber for a decent amount of time, they’ve definitely earned the rights to keep any DLC associated with the program.
The fact that you forfeit the DLC once you end your subscription gives me pause. I’m happy to have these things for free with my subscription, but someday in the future when I move on to another subscription service on a new Nintendo console, I’m going to have to buy all this DLC anyway, if I ever intend to revisit Animal Crossing or Mario Kart.
I’m hoping the ninth generation incorporates a lot of what Legends Arceus brought to the table. If all the routes between towns are open and explorable and the catching mechanics stay like they are in Legends, that would be phenomenal. Also, having battles appear natively in the overworld is a nice touch. If you shoehorn those elements into a traditional Pokémon game with more intricate battle mechanics, abilities and hold items, I think we’ve got a winning formula.

@croz The XBox version is also available with Rare Replay. That version is actually downloaded to the console and isn’t tied to an online service.
