I've got a physical copy of Phoenix Wright coming in from Japan. I promised myself I wouldn't double dip, as I already have the 3DS version, unless there was a physical copy available. Going to be so weird playing Phoenix Wright on my TV.
I'm surprised they're using the three button controllers. The kid in me loves the design, but I found the 6-button pad more comfortable and the extra buttons were very useful in some games, like Comix Zone. I already own the listed games on several compilation discs, I want some new games that haven't had many recent rereleases.
If the controllers are USB, can I buy USB six button controllers to use instead?
I'm quite happy with my regular Switch. I primarily play docked, but I won't protest a Switch Mini for those who play handheld. With Labo kits designed around the current iteration and the fact that it's aimed at kids, I don't know.
If the Switch Mini is just a dockless Switch, I would laugh, but at the same time, I think it's best. People save on a dock that they may not use but still have full functionality.
I chose Team Wizard cause Marina backed it. It was my first one (got a Wii U too late to join the first Splatfests and picked up a Switch two weeks ago) and I LOVED it. I wish they would keep Splatfests going, recycle old battles or constantly do Marina vs Pearl like someone suggested above (Marina 4 life). I usually vastly prefer single player games to multiplayer, but I'm not a big fan of Splatoon single player content. I'll play for the gear and then never touch it again, spending all my time in multiplayer. However, if I could play Turf Mode with decent AI, I would, when I can't find people online or servers died.
Lesson learned, Splatoon games are a first day purchase and IF they come out on a new console in the future (not that I want to see the Switch replaced any time soon), buy the console after Splatoon is announced.
I seriously doubt it means we're gonna get Virtual Boy ports, but if I am wrong, I will be VERY happy. I played a lot of Wario Land at the demo station when I was a kid, never bought the system, and would love a legit way to play it again.
If it includes ALL the DLC as promised, not just the season pass content, I'll definitely buy. I'm confident they will since Saints Row IV on the PS4 contains the many clothing options offered as DLC as well as the season pass content.
I think all the rumors of a hardware revision is hurting sales. If people would strongly prefer a Mini or Pro version, they'd rather wait then buy a regular model and regret it if a revision comes out. Their current stance of "We have nothing to say at this time" leans toward "We have a hardware revision in mind. We're just not ready to announce it yet" rather then "it's not happening ever." Considering the past three handheld generations and the hardware changes made during each generation, a Mini or Pro version isn't far fetched. When it will release is the better question. Could be this year, could be next, could 2021 for all we know.
I'd support official amiibo cards, but knowing Nintendo they'll be sold in random packs and to be assured you're getting what you want, you have to buy from ebay for $$$. Some of the functionality is nice, but I'm not interested in the figurines, so even just spending retail price on them is too much for me.
Another red and blue Joy Con Switch on the market? Heck Yes! The credit is a nice bonus but I really don't want to settle for gray Joy Cons, which are all I can find at the moment.
I read this as something is definitely in the works, but they aren't ready to publicly acknowledge it. If they said "We are not considering a console revision at this time," then I would say they aren't planning anything atm, maybe news in 2020 or 2021. Whatever is in the future, it doesn't bother me. I don't want a handheld only Switch nor a Switch Pro.
@LightBeam Yeah, the problem is I play a lot of Splatoon 2 and a second Switch that is permanently offline seems redundant and expensive. Congrats, Nintendo, you finally beat me, since I have a modded Wii, Wii U, and 3DS all online with no problems.
I do appreciate consoles trying to double as media players. It saves me HDMI slots by using my PS4 as a games console, DVD/Blu Ray player, and for streaming services, and I have 6 consoles already connected to my poor TV, but Steam Link doesn't work very well in my house, so streaming games have a long way to go.
I'm so tired of "streaming games is the future, get over it." America needs much better Internet structure for that, and everyone complains "too expensive."
If Nintendo must leave the console market, then let them pull a SEGA and release their games onto other consoles and the PC, new and old. Mobile games make them money, great, just please don't throw all your eggs into one basket and then wonder why profits are dropping.
A pokeball case for your pokeball controller? Awesome! However, at $50 and since I don't play Pokemon Go, I can't personally justify the price. $25-$30, sure, but no one's going sell it at that price. I hope it helps those who play Pokemon Go.
Isn't every business like this? "Hey, that company is doing well offering this product or service to others. I bet I could do the same but better and get a piece of the action."
I've been playing video games for 30 years. I've restrained myself from getting into fights, have never struck someone in anger, have never smashed something out of anger, and refuse to own or even handle a firearm though I love using them in video games. How am I an anomaly?
I'm not a big fan of chatting online with random people and run the risk of verbal abuse if the match doesn't go the way it should. I spent many happy hours shouting at my TV when my teammates screwed up in the original Splatoon, so glad they couldn't hear me. I'll continue to do the same for Splatoon 2.
@jhewitt3476 It's a very story driven game with great characters. Each case is stand alone, but there is an over-arching story woven through the games, with characters from previous cases often coming back. It's very satisfying to go up against smug prosecutors who are convinced they'll win the case and slowly whittle away their chance at victory. Phoenix is often grasping at straws and bluffing, desperate to stay afloat, before something happens that gives him the edge he needs, which adds to the tension, and just when you think you've got the upper hand, the prosecutor pulls something out of their behind and takes back control of the case. Ultimately, your client is always innocent, and it's quite a bit of fun proving that.
Don't expect a lot of realism. The judicial system is loosely based on the Japanese courts and ultimately does its own thing. Spirit mediums are a legit thing in the series and play a big part in court cases, and come into play a lot more in the second and third games.
I bought the 3DS port when it was on sale years ago, knowing little about it except how much I love Phoenix Wrong videos on YouTube, and I quickly fell in love with the series.
"and is of the belief Nintendo won't be ironing out these vulnerabilities in the online NES library anytime soon." So this exploit that allows this is as versatile as Cubic Ninja on 3DS? Otherwise, I'm confident Nintendo will patch it in a future update, and probably lay down the banhammer for others.
Personally, $20 to play Splatoon 2 online is worth it, especially the discounted price compared to $60 for Microsoft and Sony's services. Everything else is icing on the cake, icing that I don't really care about one way or the other.
Knowing Capcom, I expect ports to the Switch (which I may or may not buy) but if they port and localize the Investigation games, and possibly the latest AA game (even if they have to alter the Sherlock Holmes character or alter dialogue to avoid any potential issues), take my money!
Golden Axe: Death of Black Adder for sure! And if I may cheat a little bit, a port of M2's Outrun for the 3DS? I would LOVE to play the enhanced mode on a big screen, but I'll settle for a good arcade port.
If ATGames makes it, then I say it'll make a cute collectible on the shelf, next to you NES and SNES Minis, but it should sit there rather then be hooked up to your TV.
I never played it but after all the hype online, I'm tempted to pick it up for the PS4. 3D doesn't age well, but I'm quite impressed by screenshots and video from the original Dreamcast game, considering the time period. If it eventually gets announced for the Switch, I'll still keep my PS4 version.
I miss the free games from Club Nintendo, even if it was mostly small, stupid arcade titles, but on occasion you could get a decent VC game for free, especially at the end of the year if you reached Platinum status. Now its "40% off NES Golf!" Yeah... cause that's a hot system seller, can't give it away for free. I'm okay with the new gold coins system, better a slight discount then watching them disappear from lack of use.
In the 90s, the vast majority of everything gaming that I owned came from Toys R Us. (My toys too when I was a child.) I went there on a weekly basis for six months straight just to play the Virtual Boy demo of Wario Land. To this day, I still don't own the system, but I love that game. When I was a teenager in the early 2000s, I went to Funcoland and EB Games because they had the bigger selection and sweet deals on older games. I made one last giant purchase there a few days ago. The games weren't affected by the closing sale, but I walked away with a lot of dirt cheap Nintendo accessories for the 3DS.
Looks fantastic, but if it's another hard-as-heck platformer, no thank you. We had plenty of good 8 bit and 16 bit platformers back in the day that were reasonably difficult without wanting to pull your hair out.
I used it for about a month, mostly to farm platinum coins, but I quit when it became too boring to keep up and the coins weren't worth much anyway. I'm sitting on a large pile with nothing to spend them on.
Multiple sets in one box better justifies the price IMO. I really like the motorbike, and now that I know other games like the piano and fishing rod are involved makes it an easier sell.
I'm the only person who plays the Switch in my house, but if mainstream Pokemon games eventually come to the Switch, then I'll have no choice but to buy a second one for local trading. I hope by then I'll be able to pick one up that's dockless.
I primarily play in docked mode. It hasn't left my house yet and I doubt it will. I hope this helps kill any idea of a 3DS successor and just have the Switch handle both the home console and portable markets. One system for developers to work with, even if it means no more touch screen convenience for future Pokemon and Ace Attorney games besides what's coming next month.
