Re: Guide: Where To Pre-Order Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Mini

technotreegrass

I'm surprised they're using the three button controllers. The kid in me loves the design, but I found the 6-button pad more comfortable and the extra buttons were very useful in some games, like Comix Zone. I already own the listed games on several compilation discs, I want some new games that haven't had many recent rereleases.

If the controllers are USB, can I buy USB six button controllers to use instead?

Re: Rumour: This Year's 'Budget' Switch Could Take The 2DS Route And Ditch A Killer Feature

I'm quite happy with my regular Switch. I primarily play docked, but I won't protest a Switch Mini for those who play handheld. With Labo kits designed around the current iteration and the fact that it's aimed at kids, I don't know.

If the Switch Mini is just a dockless Switch, I would laugh, but at the same time, I think it's best. People save on a dock that they may not use but still have full functionality.

Re: Team Wizard Wins The Latest Splatoon 2 Splatfest

technotreegrass

I chose Team Wizard cause Marina backed it. It was my first one (got a Wii U too late to join the first Splatfests and picked up a Switch two weeks ago) and I LOVED it. I wish they would keep Splatfests going, recycle old battles or constantly do Marina vs Pearl like someone suggested above (Marina 4 life). I usually vastly prefer single player games to multiplayer, but I'm not a big fan of Splatoon single player content. I'll play for the gear and then never touch it again, spending all my time in multiplayer. However, if I could play Turf Mode with decent AI, I would, when I can't find people online or servers died.

Lesson learned, Splatoon games are a first day purchase and IF they come out on a new console in the future (not that I want to see the Switch replaced any time soon), buy the console after Splatoon is announced.

Re: Nintendo President Says 20 Million Switch Target Failed Due To "Insufficient" Efforts To Convey Its Appeal

I think all the rumors of a hardware revision is hurting sales. If people would strongly prefer a Mini or Pro version, they'd rather wait then buy a regular model and regret it if a revision comes out. Their current stance of "We have nothing to say at this time" leans toward "We have a hardware revision in mind. We're just not ready to announce it yet" rather then "it's not happening ever." Considering the past three handheld generations and the hardware changes made during each generation, a Mini or Pro version isn't far fetched. When it will release is the better question. Could be this year, could be next, could 2021 for all we know.

Re: Nintendo Has "Nothing To Announce" On The Rumours Of A Switch Mini

I read this as something is definitely in the works, but they aren't ready to publicly acknowledge it. If they said "We are not considering a console revision at this time," then I would say they aren't planning anything atm, maybe news in 2020 or 2021. Whatever is in the future, it doesn't bother me. I don't want a handheld only Switch nor a Switch Pro.

Re: Talking Point: Amazon's Efforts To Tempt Gamers Show Why We Need Dedicated Games Consoles

technotreegrass

I do appreciate consoles trying to double as media players. It saves me HDMI slots by using my PS4 as a games console, DVD/Blu Ray player, and for streaming services, and I have 6 consoles already connected to my poor TV, but Steam Link doesn't work very well in my house, so streaming games have a long way to go.

I'm so tired of "streaming games is the future, get over it." America needs much better Internet structure for that, and everyone complains "too expensive."

Re: Capcom Announces Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy For Nintendo Switch

@jhewitt3476 It's a very story driven game with great characters. Each case is stand alone, but there is an over-arching story woven through the games, with characters from previous cases often coming back. It's very satisfying to go up against smug prosecutors who are convinced they'll win the case and slowly whittle away their chance at victory. Phoenix is often grasping at straws and bluffing, desperate to stay afloat, before something happens that gives him the edge he needs, which adds to the tension, and just when you think you've got the upper hand, the prosecutor pulls something out of their behind and takes back control of the case. Ultimately, your client is always innocent, and it's quite a bit of fun proving that.

Don't expect a lot of realism. The judicial system is loosely based on the Japanese courts and ultimately does its own thing. Spirit mediums are a legit thing in the series and play a big part in court cases, and come into play a lot more in the second and third games.

I bought the 3DS port when it was on sale years ago, knowing little about it except how much I love Phoenix Wrong videos on YouTube, and I quickly fell in love with the series.

Re: Soapbox: My Nintendo's Updated Rewards Scheme Is Anything But Rewarding

I miss the free games from Club Nintendo, even if it was mostly small, stupid arcade titles, but on occasion you could get a decent VC game for free, especially at the end of the year if you reached Platinum status. Now its "40% off NES Golf!" Yeah... cause that's a hot system seller, can't give it away for free. I'm okay with the new gold coins system, better a slight discount then watching them disappear from lack of use.

Re: Feature: Remembering Toys R Us, The '90s Gamer's Paradise

technotreegrass

In the 90s, the vast majority of everything gaming that I owned came from Toys R Us. (My toys too when I was a child.) I went there on a weekly basis for six months straight just to play the Virtual Boy demo of Wario Land. To this day, I still don't own the system, but I love that game. When I was a teenager in the early 2000s, I went to Funcoland and EB Games because they had the bigger selection and sweet deals on older games. I made one last giant purchase there a few days ago. The games weren't affected by the closing sale, but I walked away with a lot of dirt cheap Nintendo accessories for the 3DS.

Re: Nintendo Gamers Prefer Using Switch As A Handheld Rather Than Docked

technotreegrass

I primarily play in docked mode. It hasn't left my house yet and I doubt it will. I hope this helps kill any idea of a 3DS successor and just have the Switch handle both the home console and portable markets. One system for developers to work with, even if it means no more touch screen convenience for future Pokemon and Ace Attorney games besides what's coming next month.
