I was never planning to purchase this on the Switch, but I do worry about future games. It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo goes this route and charges higher even for 1st party games because the SD card is bigger then usual.
Beautiful design, but let me guess, the interior is black, which kills any potential purchase for me. If it's not, by some miracle, I will certainly consider selling my old New XL and making this my main.
My hands always cramped up badly with the OG 3DS, but never with the standard N3DS. But I stuck with the XL because I have poor eyesight and my eyes can relax while staring at the screen. I completely agree that games look better on the smaller screen, I have a 2DS as well as a New XL, but I can't easily marathon games on the 2DS unlike the XL because of my horrible eyesight.
I will gladly buy one for Star Fox 2, but at the very least I will settle for the controllers sold separately, provided they work with the Wii/Wii U like the NES Classic.
I personally prefer the NA design, but that's what I grew up with. I guess nostalgia plays a big part in preference. I do prefer the EU controller's colored buttons, but many 3rd party NA controllers had the same colors, and were decent.
I don't mind wired headsets, but I certainly prefer a single wire setup, one running from my headset to the controller. Apologies to future teammates in Splatoon 2, but I will not support this madness and I shall continue to remain silent.
I feel like a freak, but I was never really impressed with the DS library. I've owned all of Nintendo's handhelds and my DS games are easily the smallest handheld library: all mainline Pokemon games and the Phoenix Wright series. That's it.
Even with the mandatory installation of the disc onto the hard drive, I vastly prefer buying physical PS4 discs over digital download. It took 8 HOURS to download GTA 5. I might go all digital with the Switch though. I can't see it leaving the dock very often, if at all, so I don't want to undock it just to swap game cards when a large microSD card would cost less then a game itself.
@sdelfin Getting rid of Ken Griffey's likeness is probably as easy as changing Mike Tyson to Mr. Dream from Punch Out! for the NES, and scrap the title screen to some generic baseball field. But the game uses the licensed MLB team names, logos, and outfit designs of the 1993 season. That would probably be a lot of extra work, time, and money that isn't considered worth it to change everything.
The original 2DS retailed at US $120, and I thought that was way too expensive for what it was, but when it eventually dropped to $100 and then $80, usually bundled with some game, I felt the price had found its perfect sweet spot. I'm sure the New 2DS XL will price drop within a year or two.
I keep seeing people complain that they want a 3DS but the only ones available are from scalpers. Maybe this will satisfy demand. I can't see scalpers jumping on it and ruining the availability for people.
Konami's Sunset Riders would be AMAZING, but probably very hard to secure the rights to.
An impossibility, but Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball is my all time favorite baseball game.
I'll happily settle for a SNES Mini controller, providing it works the same way as a NES Mini controller on the Wii/Wii U. I'd rather not pay $50+ for a Club Nintendo controller.
I'd love a SNES Mini controller designed like the NES Mini controller and sold separately. That's the best thing (personally) that came out of the NES Mini, and I don't want to spend $50+ for the Club Nintendo controller.
I was going to pass on this since I own the Wii U version, but the different battle modes besides coin runners and balloon burst like Mario Kart 7 make it VERY tempting. We'll see.
All I wanted was the controller, which I'm glad I got. Debating if I should get the Joystick now. I sadly have my doubts that a SNES Mini is coming, and all I wanted from that was the controller too.
Good to see Nintendo still supporting this feature. Now how about some Special Miis and maybe more puzzles? I've been sitting on all 1608 pieces for several months now.
I have a Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS4 attached to my TV, and I solely use the PS4 for any media apps. I don't see that changing when I eventually pick up a Switch if they do decide to add media apps. However, since the Switch is portable (like a tablet), I say give it a browser so people can log onto public Wi-Fi and media apps so they can choose to either game or watch their media apps while in Starbucks or vacationing elsewhere. I depend on my tablet for Netflix when I'm on vacation.
The neon blue and red do look nice. I hope they keep production up long after the Switch is released, even as Joy Cons that are sold seperately. I wish those who are able to pre-order luck in they get their Switch with no problems for that price. I really don't want to read about another pre-order fiasco like GAME overcharging for Super Mario Maker.
I hope for a SNES Mini, if only for the SNES controller, so long as I can use it on my Wii same as the NES controller. I know a Sega Genesis Mini is out of the question, which is a same, because that Wii-compatible controller would make my retro collection complete.
I'm glad Niantic can direct tourism like that, just don't cause a mass stampede. I hope Niantic donated some money themselves. No doubt a lot of IAPs went to the capture of so many Lapras.
I hope this doesn't mean another system update. They can't win. Workarounds were discovered for the damage done to save manager. Since Christmas has been good to me, I'm not 100% opposed to getting a 2DS that will never see the orange light of Wi-Fi.
@Dj-Velo I'm also from the New York area but I never got the e-mail. Probably because I gave up on the program a while ago. Congrats on scoring some Switch time! I hope it's a marked improvement on the Wii U tablet.
It was overly complex to sign up, and Festival Plaza made me yearn for the simplicity of menus in X and Y when it came to Wonder Trading and trading between friends, locally and online.
@Dj-Velo Are you very active on MyNintendo, getting a lot of gold, silver, and dare I say Miitomo coins? Just curious what the prereqs are if MyNintendo users are randomly getting invites instead of solely game journalists.
@JohnBlackstar It means that you don't necessarily get people that visited the same NZ you are in now. You can pick up tags from people all over the country who walked into their local NZ, even if said NZ is hundreds or even thousands of miles from you.
I love my Wii for retro games, but I won't deny that I'd love to use an assortment of retro USB controllers for a more authentic experience. Nintendo, get on restocking the NES Mini controller and a similar one for the SNES! Please.
I doubt it. The timing screams troll. Game Freak has never released a main line Pokemon game shortly after a new system launches. Spinoffs, maybe, I don't know the general release date in comparison to a system's launch.
@Equinox Stores need to make space for the Switch. I got a New 3DS XL for $100 because Gamestop needed to make space for the first standard N3DS release in NA.
That 2DS looks pretty cool, and the price is an absolute steal. NA, get on it, quick! This'll sell A LOT of units over here!
I'm going to do a wild run to various stores that Friday. I don't want to shop online and then wait a few days for it to arrive, or pay more then the gas I'll use up driving for overnight shipping. No, I won't preorder either. That doesn't mean I'll walk out with a copy in hand at my local stores. It's usually given away to someone who beat me to the door. With 10+ stores that I'm willing to drive to, someone has to have a copy.
Good. No BC means all the hardware is dedicated to new games, which should make it easy for third parties to port AAA games. I'm fine with Nintendo ports from different systems.
My Game Boy Color was lime green. I'd love to have a lime green 3DS but the black interior kills it. Price doesn't help much either. Maybe if I can one day find a nice discount on it.
Columns is a fantastic game, but I'm not sure how you would do it in 3D. I pray for a release in the US for Turbo Outrun alone, physical, digital, who cares.
I hope Streets of Rage 3 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles come at some point, and especially the uncensored Bare Knuckle 3.
The play style and design certainly fits mobile devices, and I'm glad people can find better ways to play it then expensive DS carts and wary means. I LOVE the game, still not a fan of Apollo himself though. Porting this to the 3DS would be very nice, one I would gladly buy though I own the DS cart. Just make a Ace Attorney Trilogy 2 with both Miles Edgeworth games, the second freshly localized.
