A few weeks ago, Capcom revealed it would be hosting an "unmissable" Ace Attorney panel on the 22nd September at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Following a bunch of rumours dating back to November last year, it's now finally been confirmed the first three Phoenix Wright games are on the way to the Nintendo Switch. For the first time ever, the original trilogy series will also be released on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
The collection - bringing together Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Justice For All and Trials and Tribulations - will launch in Japan in early 2019, with a collector's physical edition and e-Capcom limited edition available. According to Gematsu, the collection will include 10 save slots as well as Japanese and English language options.
Are you excited Phoenix will be making an appearance on the Switch? Are you a longtime fan of this series? Tell us below.

A 40 minute panel and thats all that they reveal?
Awesome news. Hopefully the western release isn’t much later. Or I will import the game.
@Lizuka same. Think the collection could and should be larger than this.
Igiari!! Not sure how this was "unmissable"... this is already on 3ds. I was hoping for 7 or a 1-6 announcement. I’m going to get it eventually for the tv play. But short of them having a surprise, this was low hanging fruit Capcom.
Losing the exclusivity is a bigger deal than just another port... Nintendo what are you doing...
Hoping for all 6 main games might have been a bit much, but getting the first 3 is still pretty good
@Mr_Pepperami You silly billies. They couldn't get you to buy a Vol. 2, if they put all the games on one cart. Why charge $60 for one collection, when you can get $80 for two? They probably also use smaller carts for less production cost.
Awesome, I haven't played any of the games yet and I've been meaning to.
@Lizuka this way they may do another collection later to charge us more.
@PhilKenSebben us in Europe will never see those carts as capcom hate us😢
@Dalarrun I'd recommend them. To be honest, after playing seven of them, make that six and a half, I never finished the last one, I'm a bit burned out. But the first three (which is what this package will be) were probably the best anyway.
@TheFox
That's good to hear! So even if we don't get the rest of the games in the future on Switch, at least I'll have played the best ones. ^^
You know 6 would have been half of them as digital code, right?
Capcom is on fire with the switch now. 🤞for all resident evil games
@Lizuka
Well if I like the first three enough I'll get the rest on Steam if enough time goes by and they haven't ported the rest to the Switch. I don't mind waiting, I've got a backlog from hell.
@sandman89
Give me Resident Evil 4 on Switch with optional Wiimote pointer style controls and I'll die a happy man!
It's my favourite series and I know all the games really well, so I have zero need to play through them again. I will however be buying this just for the sake of owning it. A little underwhelming that this is all they're announcing for now though. Mainly just waiting for the next one to get announced.
@Dalarrun Out of the main series, my order of best to worst would be something like 3, 6, 1, 5, 2, 4. But they're all amazing and the first three tie together really well as a trilogy.
I just want them to take this opportunity to fix the game's setting in localization so we can actually get ALL the games.
I would get this if I hadn't already completed the 3DS trilogy.
@Lizuka My main reason for liking the first three the most is just the interaction between characters. Maya giving Phoenix a hard time and Phoenix freaking out, the wacky abusive relationship between Miles Edgeworth and Dick Gumshoe, I just thought that was hilarious. Apollo Justice and the Miles Edgeworth games had some good stuff in their stories, but I thought the characters, and the interactions with their side kicks were rather flat. The first one on the 3DS was pretty good, but the most recent, Spirit of Justice, I'm not sure what it is, but it just isn't working for me.
Wow, I have to get this on Xbox! And maybe Switch if it gets a physical release in english.
I already have this and have played these but I suppose it's good for those who haven't. I'd much rather hear about a new game then another re-release though.
Also they should have put all 6. I know they didn't for money or whatever, but that's not really an excuse.
Objection! (sorry)
This new remake of Phoenix Wright looks ugly. The original DS ones are better.
YES!!
I love the old gameboy advanced/ds sprites, but I think this remake looks pretty good. I might consider doing my second playthrough of the original trilogy on the Nitenndo Switch.
It's just that the cases rely heavily on plottwists... knowing the outcome takes away much of the tension.
Although I already own both the physical DS games and the trilogy digitally on 3DS, if this gets a physical release in the west, I'll get it.
@Rika_Yoshitake They're all on mobile already. Nintendo lost exclusivity years ago. Sony and Xbox was inevitable.
Music sounds more like Konami.
Great news.
After some hesitation, Capcom is really going wild with the Switch now!!
I want Capcom Classics Collection next!!
Right on
Good and the Jap release has english subs.
Just give us Investigations 2 already! Jeez...
Great to see more meaningful support from Capcom.
I already have the trilogy on 3DS, so this means nothing to me.
I wonder if there are people on Sony and XBox fansites going "yay, these games look great" while trolls circle around the forums going "ha-ha, more ports of old games, wake up sheeple the PS4 is a bust."
Maybe now I'll get into these games.
Have the trilogy on 3DS already so I'll pass but this is awesome news!
I have never played a Phoenix Wright game! I may have to pick this up. Jeez. First Puzzle Bobble (YES!!!), then Virtua Racing (YES!!! again) and now this. So much for quiet Saturdays hmm?
Excellent! Always wanted to know more about these games! Added to my "to buy" list!
That's disappointing.
Japanese language options, though? Now THAT is surprising.
Mmh.
I would care a lot more for a "Capcom Shooter Collection", containing games such as Vulgus and 1942.
I was hoping for news of games that have not made it to foreign shores like Investigations 2 and Great Ace even if they were included in a collection. (I hope the Investigations series makes a comeback. I LOVED the first one!)
Where is Pikmin 4?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I might actually finish Rise from the Ashes this time around. It's soooo long though.
I still need to play these, so I'm totally fine with them coming to the Switch. A physical release in the West would be even more encouraging; there's a reason I don't have these on 3DS, after all.
Stuff like this is perfect for Switch. I already own it on 3DS but would likely buy again just to have the big screen option.
Meh, already have them on 3DS. I wonder if playing on the TV would make a big difference but I’m not sure if I really need to purchase these games again. I wish Capcom announced a new game already instead of more ports (seriously, you can play the OT on EVERYTHING, even the Wii)!
@Rika_Yoshitake God forbid more people play these amazing games.
Will get.
Please tell me that a console port of Ace Attorney 1-3 (which if you have not played yet. Why haven't you?) isn't all they're showing from this "unmissable" show.
I've never played any Ace Attorney game so I'm really excited about this. Especially for the collector's physical edition, I hope they don't sell out fast.
I'll wait until they announce the other games. I still haven't played these, but I can wait longer.
Hm I have the trilogy on 3DS so not sure if I will get this. I wonder if all three games will be on the cartridge.
Still have them on DS.
Nice for all the people waiting for Ace Attourney on Switch. I feel like the games could be a lot of fun, but I don't play Mature games, so I unfortunately doubt I'll ever get to try it out.
So no new game? Laaaaaaame
@Not_Soos The series is not "mature". It's a bit childish actually, but with great visuals, characters and music. You have to think but at the same time it can be relaxing.
I have seen these Ace Attorney games floating around for years and I've just never understood the lure of it, I will admit ahead I have not played them, so my judgement is based on ignorance, I have always LOVED law and lawyer tv shows and movies all the way back to Perry Mason, but I just could not imagine playing his as a game protagonist throwing verbal fists at the prosecutor Hamilton Burger or Paul Drake interviewing a witness, ect.
I'm an open minded person, that's why I have L.A. Noire (absolutely love it), so fill me in on some of the things that make this game such a phenom if y'all would please
@Nincompoop
The DS ones are ports of GBA.
Capcom sure love this series:
GBA
DS
Wii
3DS
Mobile
PC
Switch/PS4/Xbox One
Soon in your microwaves.
@jhewitt3476 It's a very story driven game with great characters. Each case is stand alone, but there is an over-arching story woven through the games, with characters from previous cases often coming back. It's very satisfying to go up against smug prosecutors who are convinced they'll win the case and slowly whittle away their chance at victory. Phoenix is often grasping at straws and bluffing, desperate to stay afloat, before something happens that gives him the edge he needs, which adds to the tension, and just when you think you've got the upper hand, the prosecutor pulls something out of their behind and takes back control of the case. Ultimately, your client is always innocent, and it's quite a bit of fun proving that.
Don't expect a lot of realism. The judicial system is loosely based on the Japanese courts and ultimately does its own thing. Spirit mediums are a legit thing in the series and play a big part in court cases, and come into play a lot more in the second and third games.
I bought the 3DS port when it was on sale years ago, knowing little about it except how much I love Phoenix Wrong videos on YouTube, and I quickly fell in love with the series.
This gets us one step closer to having him in Smash. He'd be an awesome assist, no?
@Tirza very special alexa version please
@Not_Soos I would never categorize these games as 'Mature'. Sure, they have murders in them but more the type of Sunday Afternoon Murder Mystery style murders. They are all very lighthearted and have great humour.
@JasmineDragon I am amazed that there is such a thing as PS4 and Xbox fanboys anymore seeing as both systems are indistinguishable from one another
@Mqblank I don't really mind violence in games too much, it's more sexual content and language and the like that bothers me, personally. Do the games have a lot of that? They series is rated M if I'm thinking correctly, right?
@JasmineDragon Your username wouldn't happen to be a reference to Avatar: The Last Airbender, would it?
@Not_Soos I hope you weren't curious about L.A. Noire, I love the game, but they drop the "F" & "S" bombs very frequently and not just as reactions, during one interview, a suspect is asked "if he likes to expletive little boys", there's other stuff, just giving fair warn, I agree, character physiques should be reasonable, it's bad enough that too many warrior/fighting female characters have ridiculous features including chests bigger than their heads (each), thier bodies would make it impossible to fight at all, but fine, but is there really a reason for many of the characters from Xenoblade to be running around half naked ??? would it really affect the story or gameplay ???, because if it does, seems like the game should be re-evaluated.
I'm not innocent, I love a lovely figure (in real life), but in gaming I think it's a cheap way to distract the players from flaws in the game itself
I'm happy that it's coming to other consoles and PC. It can only mean good things for the series I think.
Unmissable what a joke, don't get me wrong though the trilogy coming to other console brands is a very good move which is opening it up to a lot more consumers. But while I know some will be going for it again due to the new changes, a lot of veteran fans (including me) will not be bothered to it because we have just gotten a bit fed up of buying the original trilogy now... I was really hoping for that AA7 but you don't win them all
@Rika_Yoshitake Well it is a shame they're no longer Nintendo exclusive, I think the franchises NEEDS to go multi-platform. That way, more people can play it whether it be returning fans or people browsing the digital stores be like "Oh, its that game where the OBJECTION thing was born. Might just pick it up and see what the fuss was about". As many DS and 3DS owners as there are, imagine how many PS4 and Steam owners there currently are? Add Switch and XBONE and you reach way waaaaaay more people than 1 system.
If the fanbase can grow, Capcom can also be like "Oh, AA is doing very well now! Perhaps we WILL put out physical editions outside of Japan in the future and both with releasing Edgeworth 2 and all those legal loopholes stopping The Great Ace Attorney!"
It did wonders for Monster Hunter World and while I don't think it'll be as big as that, the AA series will have a chance to grow. Being stuck on 1 brand of system despite Switch doing so well (And mobile if you really wanna count that) won't really provide as much growth for the series. Especially if you brought the games on previous Nintendo systems. While HD will make the games look nice, a jump to 4K-ish on other systems will be worth it for tons of returning fans.
Its better this then Capcom pulling the plug and keeping the series locked any like other classic Capcom franchises because of declining sales.
Called it, AA made it to other systems. This will do great for growing the fanbase at least.
Well, damn, I just bought it on 3DS. Well, I don't think I'm buying it again so I'll pass but it's fine on the 3DS, so I don't feel too bad.
@jhewitt3476 I love the art style and the music. The characters are original and well-developed. The cases are mysterious, some of the latter chapters on each entry can be too twisted though. The script is not too serious. It's a lovely combination. I think you'll love the games if you like crime mysteries as we seem to do.
Oh, and they are not as short as I expected.
@BlueOcean I may buy a used DS Lite copy from used game mega-chain GS, if I'm not particular, I'm out $5.
thanx for the assistance guys
I was hoping they were going to bring this switch. I'm not sure if I'd get the collector's edition, but I'm really looking forward to this coming out.
@Not_Soos Yes, it is! You're the first person to ever ask me about that. I'm a huge fan of ATLA and LOK.
@jhewitt3476 Yeah, I have no real interest in LA Noir. Xenoblade is a game I think I could really like (and may still borrow it off a friend and play a little) but the lewd character designs and all that (and slight language) are what hold me back from buying it. I'll never understand the outrage over Western censorship in games. I'm by no means perfect, but I try to abstain from that sort of thing as much as possible, as I'm a very religious person. That's why I almost exclusively play Nintendo games. Again, not trying to knock people who play higher-rated games, I just personally feel uncomfortable about it.
@JasmineDragon Well, it is kind of a specific reference, so I'm not surprised few people have picked up on it. What are your thoughts on the live-action series coming to Netflix? The original series is my favorite show, by the way.
I love this series. I first ended up playing them on mobile and have the whole series on IOS now, but these games are the same on any system since it's most similar to point and click.
The first and third ones in the trilogy are still some of the strongest. The first is probably the tightest.
@Not_Soos like I mentioned, I'm not uncomfortable, I just think when they add over-sexualized, especially a lot and/or too often, it's to artificially inflate interest in the game and/or distract from a game that might otherwise be lacking in other areas, T&A seems to make a game, but usually hypocritically, notice you never see anything enticing for the ladies eyes, some, super tanned, cut Italian with long wavey dirty blond hair in a thong, one huge 2guage double barrel, sawed off shotgun in one hand & gigantic samurai sword in the other, sexy tats, ect., or whatever may appeal, nope, since most gamers who play those type of games where the main protagonist is male, yah, the le fem fatale is a distraction, never an importance
For once, I'm not mad about a third-party franchise losing its status as a Nintendo exclusive - the more people get to enjoy this series, the merrier! We've had the good lawyer in our clutches for long enough.
Already got em on the DS.
Already got em on the Wii.
Gonna get em for my Switch.
I wonder why people don't like the second game as much as the others. The case with the two sisters is still mind-blowing (won't spoil it). However, the third is my favorite. Gadot is better than Franziska imo.
@Rika_Yoshitake why do you care that the series is being brought over to other platforms? Never understood why people get upset over third party software going multi - Platform
I'm not sure if this would be that great, I understand the games started on GBA but the dual screen on DS and 3DS really elevated the experience. Taking that away, it almost feels like the 3DS version is still the superior version.
I have only played the DS versions though. I don't know what was added to the 3DS version or how that version compares to this one, so if anyone could enlighten me I might change my mind.
@kobashi100
My guess would be that people worry when a series goes multiplatform that it'll be changed to accommodate the new audience. If a game loses its roots then its a problem.
I only tried Ace Attorney on the Wii but it was hard to get past how pixelated it was, especially the text.
@Rika_Yoshitake I know right, first Monster Hunter and now Ace Attorney. Whats going on with Nintendos third party exclusive deals?
@JnFnRu Monster Hunter has never been a Nintendo exclusive franchise. It originated on the PSP
Man, they should of put all 6 indeed. I didn't get to play the last 3 but had played on wii when wiiware was a thing. Though i did play the original on ds in the beginning. I never owned a 3ds til later in the cycle but that was only for monster hunter. I guess 4-6 will be the next bundle ? Then the rumored new one to the series ??
@sanderev The first Monster Hunter was for the PS2, not PSP.
@kobashi100 that seems common. Afterall if the switch gets a game that was on other platforms before including the wiiu people brandish their pitchforks screaming about ports.
@Tirza You are correct. However that doesn't mean my point is less valid.
Will it have the extra case for the first game?
Otherwise I'm not so hot on this.
@Not_Soos I imagine it has the M rating for the murders as I can not remember and swearing or sexual content in the game at all.
@Mqblank All the games released for the DS were rated "Teen." It wasn't until the download only ones for the 3DS that the rating was raised to "Mature." And I can't figure out why, I don't think they got any more intense. There's no escaping the fact that the stories center around murder, but it's not like you're watching graphic violence while you play the game. And when it comes to language and innuendo none of these games ever get beyond the "E 10+" level.
@TheFox You are right, I cannot think of anything that would give the games a Mature rating. Baffling.
@Rika_Yoshitake more people that get to play them the better
@JnFnRu that is like saying why Silent Hill, Persona, and Final Fantasy is Playstation exclusive most of the time
