Re: Guide: Switch, Switch Lite Or 2DS XL? The Nintendo Christmas Console Buying Guide For Parents

technotreegrass

If you're certain you'll never play Switch games on the TV, I've seen people on this site and others claim they go handheld mode all the time, get a Switch Lite. It feels better in the hands then the OG Switch, at least without a grip, as I do not own one yet for either system. Unlike the OG and XL DS and 3DS systems, the screen size difference isn't night and day, and neither is the quality of the graphics.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Wants Nintendo To Be As Big As Disney, But Concerned Parents Are Making It Difficult

technotreegrass

To be as big as Disney, you'd have to buy out pretty much every big and small name developer and publisher and bring back the glory days of the late 80s where "Nintendo" was synonymous with "video games." (I kid.)

Video games can be beneficial to kids. Hours of playing Tetris and Columns taught me how to keep cool under pressure and keep reacting, keep strategizing several moves ahead, a big help on tests. But with all the microtransactions, the need to keep buying in-game items to stay competitive in certain games, and the cosmetic skins that draw you in but are only available via loot boxes, I don't blame parents for not wanting their kids to game.

I love Gold and Silver. I can't see Bellsprout in any game without thinking of my dear BellStinks. In 2000, I had Mr. Bell for a teacher and he and I did not get along. When I first played Silver and you have the option to trade a Bellsprout for an Onix to get the edge on the first gym. I named one Bellstinks and traded it off. That somehow became a tradition that I hold onto almost 20 years later.

Re: Professional Fortnite Player Gets Banned For Life After Uploading Videos Of Himself Cheating

I'm glad he got banned. Epic Games takes a hard stance on aim-assist programs for all players of all skill levels. Why should a casual player get a ban while a pro gets a slap on the wrist? Keep it fair.

Of course, the kid is upset, he was making good money on this. Sure it probably can't pan out to a lifelong career, but it's still a tidy sum he could put away for himself.

Re: Review: Disney Classic Games: Aladdin And The Lion King - A Fine Package, But The Games Have Aged Badly

technotreegrass

Cheap difficulty and beating it in 3-5 hours was the norm at the time of release, but I really appreciate the rewind and "watch and play" feature, easier than plugging in level select codes. (do they still work? Haven't tried yet.) I imagine the price point was because of licensing, and I've been saying for years that these games would never rerelease because of licensing, so glad I was wrong, and all the extra features help justify the price.

Re: Scalpers Strike As Demand For Pokémon Center London Merchandise Skyrockets

Sometimes if you wait long enough, prices will drop to decent levels. Just keep an eye on the market. I picked up the Club Nintendo Japan SNES controller for $30 (typically $80), Japanese Pearl and Marina amiibo for $20 each (usually listed for $60+ each), and I really wanted a physical copy of Ace Attorney for the Switch. Once the digital copy released in the US, physical copies dropped to roughly match the digital cost.

Re: Feature: How Switch Brings Back Game Boy Multiplayer Memories

technotreegrass

@KitsuneNight If it did get released, I think it would get slammed for its "clunky controls." Controls for a console FPS have been improved so much over the years and when I replay the old 007s on my N64, it takes me a few minutes to adjust to the old control scheme and I'm rubbish on the harder difficulties because muscle memory expects the smoothness of a modern FPS. Me personally, I would love a port (and add The World is Not Enough for good measure.) regardless of the controls. I still play the original Perfect Dark port on the Xbox 360 and would love to see Goldeneye get the same treatment.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

@GameOtaku Nintendo doesn't own ALL 800+ games in the NES library. Any third-party game (and there are many and yes people enjoy playing them) are owned by the IP holder. Who owns what can get complicated with developers and publishers going under, not to mention licensing for any sports games that have references to IRL teams and players, and games that are based on a movie or TV show.

Re: Aladdin And The Lion King Are Reportedly Being Remastered For Switch

technotreegrass

I'm waking up bright and early tomorrow and I had better see an official Gamestop listing for this game. I am so hype! I hope we get both versions of both games. I know Lion King is virtually identical and the SNES version has the better sound, but a few sound effects are different and I grew up with the Genesis version of both games.

Most importantly, please keep the cheat codes intact. I hate having to struggle with the lava level and I prefer skipping it altogether.

Re: Poll: Have You Ever Had Problems With Nintendo Hardware?

technotreegrass

A lot of NES carts required blowing on them or cleaning them with a cotton swab. Bought a Megaman cart from the video store which was buggy as all hell, probably too much abuse from whoever rented it. My Gamecube completely died after taking a three-foot fall, something broke off inside and you could hear it rattle it around. I ran to EB Games and bought a new one that very day. My OG 2DS stopped reading carts and I was told it just past the out-of-warranty mark so I'd have to pay. Screw that, I bought a New 2DS XL instead.

Re: Sega Recreates Classic "Genesis Does What Nintendon't" Ad To Promote Mega Drive Mini

technotreegrass

For all the rivalry between Sega and Nintendo, the console wars didn't really affect my circle of gamers when I was a kid. If you owned a Genesis or a SNES, that was okay. PS1 vs N64, now there were problems. My brother and I were the only gamers we knew who owned an N64. Everyone else had a PS1 and gave us hell for playing a "kiddie" console. The rivalry continued with the PS2/XBOX/Dreamcast/Gamecube era, though it was mostly online and not IRL. My fellow teenagers found better things to do than play video games, unlike myself. Now it seems like no one cares what you game on unless they want to argue superior specs .
