Re: Anniversary: Pokémon Black And White Are Now 10 Years Old

These games saved Pokemon for me. I loved Gen 1-3 but when Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum came out, I didn't care for the games, at all. I can't explain why, they just never clicked with me. I thought maybe I had simply outgrown Pokemon. Then I took a chance on Black and White and fell in love with the franchise all over again.

10 years, wow. I remember the trailer aired A LOT as an unskippable ad on a now defunct game website, and the overexposure had me desising the game moreso then its actual merits, or lackthereof. I honestly remember the trailer A LOT more then any actual critique on the game besides "this is not my Metroid."

Back on topic, both covers are superb, but Japan takes the edge, and I can't really explain why. It just screams "I'm art." We need more video game covers like this.

I admit I was worried when I saw them because I've had too many experiences of a game freaking out and sometimes freezing my console because the player-character touched a visual glitch that wasn't meant to be seen during regular gameplay. However, when I accidentally ran through one and nothing happened, I stopped caring. I wouldn't be opposed to their removal in a future patch but if Nintendo does not do that, I'm perfectly fine with it.

@Mountain_Man I bet if themes are introduced, you'll have to pay and people are gonna flip, or if they're free, they're either basic vector art to promote a recent game or advertisement for a product. In other words, more reasons to flip.

But I would totally use folders, as I do for my 3DS, PS4, and phone.

Re: Feature: Keeping It Physical In A Digital Age

@NEStalgia And Netflix losing licenses because supposedly the IP owner of the movie(s) and show(s) wants more money when it comes time to renewal so they jack the subscription price while crying "we're losing money" because the sub rate is dropping. I bought a Hulu subscription because most of my favorite shows moved there. I'll gladly buy DVDs and Blu Ray but some movies and TV shows aren't legally available physically, and I feel much more comfortable if I could find a way to convert at the highest quality available. Animated HD shows look like crap in 480p.

Re: Feature: Keeping It Physical In A Digital Age

The only mediums I feel truly comfortable going all-digital in is books and music because I can easily convert them to a DRM free format. I'll buy digital games and DLC but I also feel confident that one day pirates will help keep my games accessible when the systems are considered retro. I really appreciate what LRG does but I only buy games from them if I consider the game absolutely worth it.

An all-digital future for movies and TV worries me. Streaming services can drop content on a finger snap, and having a service that owns the IPs, like Disney+, isn't a guarantee the stuff you want will be there for life. There could be disputes between people who claim ownership, and there are quite a few Disney-owned properties that aren't on the service. Not to mention the quality of the streaming video. Using the digital code from a Blu Ray box is a royal pain and something I gave up on. I'm not an AV geek, but I don't like how Cybersix on DVD is clear, crisp, and stunning, and Cybersix streamed on Amazon Prime looks like I'm watching it on a CRT TV in 1999. Do they not have access to the remastered video?

My apologies if anything I said breaks the rules. For the record, anything I convert to DRM-free stays on my computer and I don't share.

Re: Limited Run Shows Off The Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time Collector's Edition

@MayroMake Damn, that sucks. I preordered Streets of Rage back in early March before there was even an official release date for the game, and it arrived a week before the other company started selling their own Streets of Rage physical copies in stores. I only bought two directly from them so far, River City Girls and Streets of Rage. River City Girls came a month after release. Samurai Jack is my next order, and here's hoping that doesn't take forever.

Re: Feature: How Do Switch eShop Discounts Impact Game Sales?

I try to buy indies at full price unless I'm really on the fence about the game. Like if I'm honestly not sure if I'll enjoy it and I hesitate to waste $10-$20. If I spend $5 or less and it turns out the game isn't for me, I feel better about it.

Triple A's however... Unless it's a first-party Nintendo game or a personal must-have, I try to wait until the $20 GOTY comes out or some massive sale that drops the price to next to nothing.
