Jumped in this afternoon to grab a few final things off my wishlist. Always been curious about Dillon’s Rolling Western and a few old Gameboy games. Oddly, I think I would’ve waited indefinitely if the closure hadn’t occurred. So in a way the closure got me moving to act.
Fair thee well, eshop. Your jolly jingles will be missed 🫡
I’m most impressed with Bowser’s expression. After being semi-flat for years in games I’m looking forward to see how far Illumination pushes Nintendo’s characters.
@Bizzyb Sure. This thing’s probably been on the production line for a few months in China already. Some factory worker smuggled one off the line. Doesn’t seem crazy to me. It’s even happened before.
But honestly, no big deal. We’ll likely see what the Zelda edition looks like in Feb or Mar and go from there ✌️
All the people confidently saying this is fake crack me up. I’m going full real here. A console edition launching in May has likely been in production on the manufacturing floor and an employee smuggling it off the floor for a quick pic is totally believable.
The design is also completely Nintendo in that it’s good but flawed and I’m fine without it. 😛
Solid trailer but underlines Chris Pratt’s voice role as non comital. And I second people’s enthusiasm for a more active role for Peach, though I sense they’ll overcompensate and make her an “overly bad ass” to the point of cliche.
It’s weird. I’m a 42 year old male, I’m no prude, but I just don’t want sexy in my video games. They’re separate worlds for me. It doesn’t help that Bayonetta reminds me of Sarah Palin (possibly my issue) 😂
@Anti-Matter “I completely dislike them and it started to annoy me”. Annoy you?! You’re the one who will comment on every Zelda, Metroid article—anything that’s not your EXACT tastes and reiterate how uninterested you are. Personally, I find your pointed opinions and very specific tastes to be a buzzkill on a comments section that I usually enjoy.
I certainly agree with those who had qualms with the pacing. Like, Pikmin 4 might be my most anticipated game ever but I spent the whole Miyamoto section fearing it was just Bloom talk. By the time 4 was announced it was more relief than excitement.
I’m also getting burnt out on micro-trailers. Ex: Pikmin, Zelda. I get they’re teasers, but they’re not even getting started before they cut em off. I feel strung along instead of curious.
As others have said or alluded to, that Japanese box is a design mess. Sure, you can try to put every character on the box, but there’s no focal point. No priority in what your eye should be looking at.
NA/Europe for me. (actually surprised the race is so close)
$60 for an another old Zelda game is a bit much, but in the end it’s still a good value for me. I know I’ll play any of the rereleases to completion, enjoy myself again, and for me that’s worth the money. Especially Wind Waker 😁
I’m glad this isn’t free to play. $15, and all unlockables are done via gameplay? Yep! Ideal scenario in my book. Gonna support it and get it later today.
Just to clarify, this can’t be 170 NEW tracks, can it? I assume it’s pre-existing tracks clumped together in groups of 5 for each car model, to be raced with that model for a new skin, yea?
Here it is folks. My tipping point. NSO+ has slowly been getting good, but this is the game that pushes me over the edge of the dock with a welcome splash. This game is in my top 10 of all time list. I love it that much.
Very rare that I like an ice stage, but dang if Snow Land doesn’t rock my socks. The ambiance is surprisingly strong. I think it caught me off guard because it was a GBA remake and those tend to be tame.
Though I’m still excited for this, I do think Namco shot themselves in the foot in a couple ways with this release:
—it sounds like the Switch version could’ve used a bit more attention, unfortunate considering Nintendo fans would be most likely to gravitate toward such a game.
—the weird inconsistent pricing across territories. $40 US vs almost 50 £ 😬 and others…
—a bit lacking in bolstering the package with extras: concept art, history, etc.
I’ll still get it. I love the series. I just think if the reception to it to this collection is lackluster Namco will think the character doesn’t have future potential—which it does.
@DarkFighter though I can’t vouch for the remakes (yet) the original two were phenomenal side scrolling platformers. Loads of imaginative backgrounds, characters and design. As long as they didn’t tamper with their source material too much, these should be amazing 🤞
Next Level games is an amazing development studio, but I’m gonna go ahead and say I don’t mind if Strikers falls flat. At some point Nintendo needs to get the message that launching a lite game and drip feeding content until the game stops selling is a terrible policy.
I was 90% sure I was going to get this game, but did a full turn when I read about the lack of single player content. No thanks. Not for me.
One of my first Switch games. Back then my policy was I had to beat a game before I could get a new one. Well, Thumper pushed me to the limit. I simultaneously loved it and wondered in the later stages “why am I volunteering to be this stressed!?” Have to say, after all that beating it was damn satisfying. But it really does get under your skin.
@rockodoodle yea, totally hear you on that. It got me walking my dog a bit more when I first started it. It was interesting unlocking new Pikmin types too, but it seems ill paced for the medium and long term.
Still. Not complaining too hard, just figured they could’ve fed all the effort into a payoff. Like a neat li’l Pikmin hive/town growing, or risking a few Pikmin to take down a Bulborb or something. 🤷♂️
Despite my absolute love for the Pikmin franchise and my bullheaded determination to get into this app…. It’s tough to care. I’m at level 40, have raised countless Pikmin, maxed out their hearts to keep getting the blandest possible decor, keep defeating endless mushrooms and I’m genuinely baffled where the sense of payoff is. I know it’s not “that kind of game” but it needs SOMETHING. Rare nectars to plant flowers that have no significant effect except to be planted and disappear a few days later? Neat.
The Japanese one is unusually poor for coming from the land of impeccable design. It’s just random and imbalanced. And seriously—look how good the rendering of Whispy Woods is on the cover of the Western box, c’mon. So nice!
I felt Nintendo Switch Online was always particularly aggressive with it’s auto subscription insistence. Heck! Early on in the NSO days it was even ambiguous if autosubscribe was turned off or not.
Very glad to see this particular practice get axed!
This game has turned me from a casual fan to a serious one. I was just so impressed with the world’s design and the craftsmanship of each level. Everything is just polished to a shine.
@Banjo- they updated it, but it still felt busted to me. I played it through completion and it was the first Switch game I’ve uninstalled—icon and everything.
I might be harsher than some reviews but the game just felt incredibly hollow to me.
I remember being at a Best Buy when the SNES was fazing out and the N64 was gaining traction. They had a stack of pristine, big box Earthbounds for $15 a piece. I had the money, but I looked at the back of the box and 17 year old me thought “these graphics stink” and put it down. I got a forgettable $60 N64 game instead 😑
The inclusion of dollar sales strikes me as a bit arbitrary. PS5 may cost twice as much as Switch, but it doesn’t equate to a larger profit margin or anything.
I actually really enjoyed the game. The developer strikes me as a cheeky, talented, upstart who’s just having a bit of a laugh with his experimental project, pricing and all.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Hype Levels for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
I’ve been excited for years, but there is some “excitement fatigue” going on for me. Like, let’s just do this already!
Re: My Nintendo Offering Metroid Prime Remastered Big Pin Set (US)
@canaryfarmer yea, their base shipping fees are a buzzkill. Definitely negates the “free” feeling.
Re: Nintendo Reveals Official Poster For The Super Mario Bros. Movie
I’m most impressed with Bowser’s expression. After being semi-flat for years in games I’m looking forward to see how far Illumination pushes Nintendo’s characters.
Re: Mini Review: Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection - A Great But Gouging, Exploitative Package
@jamesthemagi why shouldn’t price not factor into a score? It’s very much a component in the complete picture of the package for most people.
Re: Rumour: Leaked Images Of A Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch OLED Model Appear Online
@Bizzyb Sure. This thing’s probably been on the production line for a few months in China already. Some factory worker smuggled one off the line. Doesn’t seem crazy to me. It’s even happened before.

Re: Mini Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 3 - The Best Set Of Tracks Yet
London was a botched opportunity. No rainy lap? Could’ve been awesome. And I’ve also never seen them score the corresponding music so unfittingly.
Otherwise great batch. Enjoyed Peach Gardens but cutting down the hedge maze kind of neutralized one of the stage’s cool gimmicks.
Re: Princess Peach And Donkey Kong Debut In New Super Mario Bros Movie Trailer
Solid trailer but underlines Chris Pratt’s voice role as non comital. And I second people’s enthusiasm for a more active role for Peach, though I sense they’ll overcompensate and make her an “overly bad ass” to the point of cliche.
We’ll see. So far so decent.
Re: Poll: Bayonetta 3 Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?
It’s weird. I’m a 42 year old male, I’m no prude, but I just don’t want sexy in my video games. They’re separate worlds for me. It doesn’t help that Bayonetta reminds me of Sarah Palin (possibly my issue) 😂
For those looking forward to it—Enjoy!
Re: Pilotwings 64's 'Birdman' Stage Is Significantly More Stressful On Switch
A very odd glitch. For those downplaying it, it definitely cuts into the enjoyment of an otherwise soothing, distinct part of the game.
It’s been long enough since the 64 game that I was wondering if I’d forgotten how to do it.
Re: Nintendo Announces A Special Direct Presentation For Super Mario Bros. Movie
I’m gonna say I’m optimistic. Style wise they seemed to have found a nice balance between the games look and “upping the ante” for theatrical effect.
I have a feeling the Toads are gonna be hilarious.

Got up out of my chair for this one!! It probably won’t be until late summer next year, but just knowing it EXISTS is a hit of pure joy!

Re: Cuphead Version 1.3.3 Is Now Available, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@sketchturner yea, it was oddly unsatisfying to complete the DLC and all it’s bosses and the completion be at 45%.
Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Three More Titles
Appreciate that they’re releasing a Japanese title. It makes the collection feel diversified.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Special Edition - Street Fighter II
Man—that 3DO one with Akuma! Never seen it before but I dig it. I’d hang that on my wall. Surprised it’s not getting more attention.
Re: Cuphead - The Delicious Last Course Reaches One Million Sales In Two Weeks
I don’t know if this game has ever left the Nintendo eshop top 30. The selling power is inexhaustible.
The dlc was a bit short, but somehow—somehow!—they upped the quality of the boss fights from the base game by a significant margin.
Re: Nintendo Might Finally Be Racing Ahead With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Wave 2 DLC
That’d be right on track for an update every four months through 2023. Mar/July/ Nov, repeat.
Though obviously Nintendo’s never been keen to consistent rhythms with their releases 😛

$8 for this DLC is a steal. Bring on the 30th!

Re: Surprise! Doom Eternal Is Getting A Limited Run Physical Release On Switch
Got a hunch it’s gonna be a small card and a biiig download. Hope I’m wrong.
Re: The Switch Has Now Outsold The 3DS In Japan
@blindsquarel I think that statistic was globally. This is Switch sales in Japan vs past Japanese market sales.

@SmaggTheSmug normally I’d agree with your apprehension but it’s Digital Eclipse behind the wheel. Their track record is pristine. It’s gonna be 👌

Re: The House Of The Dead: Remake Is Alive, Gets Switch Release Date
I was excited until I saw the developer is Forever Entertainment. That Panzer Dragoon remake they made was ABYSMAL.
Also, a possible reason Sega’s logo is so hard to find on these productions…
Re: Three Kirby amiibo Appear To Be Getting Reprints (North America)
Glad they’re doing the Smash version of King Dedede. The Kirby version always looked wonky to me with his smooshed looking beak.

I dig it.
Does anybody with this Lego line if it’s a retail thing, or if it’s something you special order through Lego?
Re: Pikmin Bloom Update Adds New Share Features And Reduces Network Usage
@1UP_MARIO totally. These different colored mushroom quests just ain’t doin’ the trick. Literally any variety would be welcome.
