Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The Game Awards 2021?

I feel like everyone forgot that excellent Cuphead trailer!! Definitely a highlight for me. It was also a testament to how ORIGINAL that game feels in a sea of sameness.

Honestly, after all the other trailers I was so unenthusiastically limp I was starting to wonder if I qualify as a “gamer” at all.

Re: Metroid Dread Developer MercurySteam Announces Its Next Game, Codenamed "Project Iron"

I’m still in the mindset of being pro Mercury Steam. A person being left off the credits for not being on the project long enough is not fuss worthy. A studio working long hours is how ambitious projects get finished. It shouldn’t be the standard, but I think to a degree it’s an inevitability.

Had there been this level of transparency back in the day how would we feel about Metroid Prime and Retro Studios? They had to grind for a year straight to give birth to that beauty. The Japanese developers LIVED in the office for the final months of development for Super Metroid, yet we play those games with a clear conscience.

Standards could and probably should change, but fawning over Mercury Steam’s tepid flaws and making the success of an amazing game suffer for it is just ridiculous to me.

Re: Poll: Why Do You Collect Video Games?

Lately I’ve been on a kick of collecting the Japanese editions of The Legend of Zelda. For me it’s super interesting to see the differences in packaging and design, as well as getting the feeling I know the history of the series a bit better.

Particular favorites so far are the Famicom disks of 1 & 2 and the GameCube Windwaker.

Re: Nintendo To Spend Up To $900 Million To Buy Back Its Own Shares

Here’s a question that someone might be able to answer: would a buyback like this be a potential strategy to ensure a larger company like Microsoft or Apple from buying gobs of shares, become a majority owner, and basically hijacking ownership of the company?

I’ve heard and read about such things but my own understanding on it is foggy. It might be far-fetched, maybe totally possible, I’m not sure.

Re: Switch Hardware Sales Beat Xbox Series X|S And PS5 Combined, Unsurprisingly

@Heavyarms55 to add to the instability of the shortages, Taiwan one of the largest producers of semiconductor chips in the world is experiencing an intense drought. Besides the lack of hydroelectricity, semiconductors require an insane amount of purified water to make in a sterile environment. It could be a very long time before supply meets demand.

It would be convenient to chalk up Microsoft and Sony’s issue to poor planning, but literally no business saw this coming. Hence, thousands upon thousands of finished automobiles waiting in vast lots for their chip brain before they can even be driven.

Actually caved in and downloaded this past week. Shockingly, it does have some merit and is worth a download just to see what ideas the series may potentially adopt in the future. The course designs aren’t that thrilling but the challenges are definitely an idea that deserves another chance.

For the wary, the gatcha mechanics are relatively light and honestly are so ridiculously priced they’re not tempting anyway.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Miss Instruction Manuals?

robotreptile

I miss the manuals because I miss the “complete package” feel that games used to have. Front and back art that wasn’t as cluttered with technical jargon, or any amount of extra effort that heightened the presence of the object as a thing to have.

Nowadays I get the feeling they strip away as much of the physical charm as possible. Maybe they do it as a subliminal push to go digital, which makes sense, but it’s a bit of a loss just the same.
