This game has turned me from a casual fan to a serious one. I was just so impressed with the world’s design and the craftsmanship of each level. Everything is just polished to a shine.
@Banjo- they updated it, but it still felt busted to me. I played it through completion and it was the first Switch game I’ve uninstalled—icon and everything.
I might be harsher than some reviews but the game just felt incredibly hollow to me.
I remember being at a Best Buy when the SNES was fazing out and the N64 was gaining traction. They had a stack of pristine, big box Earthbounds for $15 a piece. I had the money, but I looked at the back of the box and 17 year old me thought “these graphics stink” and put it down. I got a forgettable $60 N64 game instead 😑
The inclusion of dollar sales strikes me as a bit arbitrary. PS5 may cost twice as much as Switch, but it doesn’t equate to a larger profit margin or anything.
I actually really enjoyed the game. The developer strikes me as a cheeky, talented, upstart who’s just having a bit of a laugh with his experimental project, pricing and all.
I feel like everyone forgot that excellent Cuphead trailer!! Definitely a highlight for me. It was also a testament to how ORIGINAL that game feels in a sea of sameness.
Honestly, after all the other trailers I was so unenthusiastically limp I was starting to wonder if I qualify as a “gamer” at all.
I’m still in the mindset of being pro Mercury Steam. A person being left off the credits for not being on the project long enough is not fuss worthy. A studio working long hours is how ambitious projects get finished. It shouldn’t be the standard, but I think to a degree it’s an inevitability.
Had there been this level of transparency back in the day how would we feel about Metroid Prime and Retro Studios? They had to grind for a year straight to give birth to that beauty. The Japanese developers LIVED in the office for the final months of development for Super Metroid, yet we play those games with a clear conscience.
Standards could and probably should change, but fawning over Mercury Steam’s tepid flaws and making the success of an amazing game suffer for it is just ridiculous to me.
Dang. I’m playing it and enjoying it but while doing so wondering if the publicity it does generate will feed the franchise, or give people the wrong impression of the series…
@tekoii pretty much! Except you move quite slowly and can’t look left and right (except small degrees in the museum). Though it does let you tilt a bit up and down.
@Silly_G I’ve actually been seeing the Loftwing Amiibo in stock quite a few places. Just for kicks I just checked GameStop’s website and it’s available there now if you’re in the US.
@Iggy-Koopa well if you feel like passing it off in my direction I’d happily pay ya $50 for the extra content w/o game. Message me if that interests ya.
(I’m in the USA, if you’re in Europe probably not worth it for shipping costs)
Three out of four for me. Electric WD-40 does the trick for me. I have to apply it about every 4 months. Irritating every time drift comes around.
Nintendo can get raked across the coals as much as possible on this one if I’d have my way. Apologize to their investors??! Ha! Apologize to the consumers and the fans you weenies!!
@StooBush whoa! That’s good to know about. GameStop is often a ripoff with trades but then every so often they give crazy good value on consoles. $130 to upgrade to the OLED is an easy decision if I can find a GameStop that actually has the new model. Thanks for the info!
It’s getting to the point where a review can’t even exist without the age-old argument of subjectivity vs objectivity vs conspiracy jive. I’m so over it. Nintendo has a high threshold of quality control. Their games score well. Ta-da!
Read the review, conclude your own opinion on whether the game might suit you and move on.
Lately I’ve been on a kick of collecting the Japanese editions of The Legend of Zelda. For me it’s super interesting to see the differences in packaging and design, as well as getting the feeling I know the history of the series a bit better.
Particular favorites so far are the Famicom disks of 1 & 2 and the GameCube Windwaker.
I imagine this game will be great in 6-8 months after they’ve factored in all of the critical input. Until then, I will opt not to be part of the beta testing. Especially a hard crash near the end. That’s just undoable for me.
I may be looking too much into this, but between Pikmin Mobile, the cameos in the Universal Park, and now these candy’s, I really do think Nintendo’s making a genuine effort to ramp up the brand recognition.
This time next year, Pikmin 4 release, mark this comment! 😄
@Mgene15 are you inferring this article is shovelware?? This is the kind of history article that takes quite a bit of effort, and super interesting to boot!
Even if a new one could be assumed, that’s pretty unprofessional of her to break a Non Disclosure Agreement like that. Little bits of info like this interview can really erode the potency of a reveal announcement.
Here’s a question that someone might be able to answer: would a buyback like this be a potential strategy to ensure a larger company like Microsoft or Apple from buying gobs of shares, become a majority owner, and basically hijacking ownership of the company?
I’ve heard and read about such things but my own understanding on it is foggy. It might be far-fetched, maybe totally possible, I’m not sure.
Two million ain’t bad, but kind of low for a Pokémon game, yea? Especially since this is one of the higher quality spin-offs. I’m sure Japanese sales adds another million, but I figured this game would be somewhere between 4-6 million by now.
@Thrallherd I’d say your friend’s not wrong, as the PS’ and Xbox’s have large hard drives to encourage digital downloads. But I’d also say Nintendo’s software as a whole is selling well both physically and digitally fueled by a hot console. If he’s concerned who’s officially “winning” then tell him he is and spare yourself a pointless argument 😉
When a game is free and generous with their content like this I’d like to support it with a few bucks, but when the next tier of support goes from $0 to $30 it’s a bit too steep. A couple $5 or $10 options and I would’ve happily volunteered some support.
@Jonnyl Agreed. Based off the screen grabs I see no inference of the ‘interesting world’ they’re describing. The chosen images make the game look like a mess of pea soup and polygons.
I always fantasized Nintendo would do something like this. They have so many quirky and interesting objects made throughout their history that it’d be so interesting to see it displayed in a thoughtful chronological way.
@Heavyarms55 to add to the instability of the shortages, Taiwan one of the largest producers of semiconductor chips in the world is experiencing an intense drought. Besides the lack of hydroelectricity, semiconductors require an insane amount of purified water to make in a sterile environment. It could be a very long time before supply meets demand.
It would be convenient to chalk up Microsoft and Sony’s issue to poor planning, but literally no business saw this coming. Hence, thousands upon thousands of finished automobiles waiting in vast lots for their chip brain before they can even be driven.
Actually caved in and downloaded this past week. Shockingly, it does have some merit and is worth a download just to see what ideas the series may potentially adopt in the future. The course designs aren’t that thrilling but the challenges are definitely an idea that deserves another chance.
For the wary, the gatcha mechanics are relatively light and honestly are so ridiculously priced they’re not tempting anyway.

Re: New Trailer For Capcom Fighting Collection Released, Switch eShop Pre-Orders Go Live
@SmaggTheSmug normally I’d agree with your apprehension but it’s Digital Eclipse behind the wheel. Their track record is pristine. It’s gonna be 👌

Congrats, HAL. You deserve the success.
Re: The House Of The Dead: Remake Is Alive, Gets Switch Release Date
@Banjo- I don’t have an Xbox, but would definitely give it a shot if I did. Appreciate the suggestion 👌

Re: The House Of The Dead: Remake Is Alive, Gets Switch Release Date
I was excited until I saw the developer is Forever Entertainment. That Panzer Dragoon remake they made was ABYSMAL.
Also, a possible reason Sega’s logo is so hard to find on these productions…
Re: Three Kirby amiibo Appear To Be Getting Reprints (North America)
Glad they’re doing the Smash version of King Dedede. The Kirby version always looked wonky to me with his smooshed looking beak.

Re: A Sonic The Hedgehog Lego Set Has Just Leaked Online
I dig it.
Does anybody with this Lego line if it’s a retail thing, or if it’s something you special order through Lego?
Re: Pikmin Bloom Update Adds New Share Features And Reduces Network Usage
@1UP_MARIO totally. These different colored mushroom quests just ain’t doin’ the trick. Literally any variety would be welcome.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite New Feature In Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 And The Happy Home DLC?
Gyroids for me! It adds an element of weirdness that makes the game feel just a bit strange. Like it’s an another world.
Re: PSA: If You Restarted Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island, You'll Have To Wait A Year To Access Some Things
@Princessmadllama are you serious? I honestly can’t tell.
As someone who’s played the original, the DS and the Wii one, New Horizons feels amazing in comparison. Especially after the update.
Re: Mini Review: Toree 2 - A Second Shot Of Low-Poly Platforming That Puts Some Bigger Games To Shame
Bought both. Thoroughly enjoyed both. Only minor qualm is that some of those basic level ranks are really steep.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online N64 Game Ranked
@tourjeff I think the list only pertains to the games available on the service at, or near, launch.
That being said, I’m surprised Nintendo didn’t include Waverace at launch. I know that’s when I’ll be signing up.
Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Wave 2 DLC Arrives On Switch Next Month
The 1st DLC was just decent. My hope was that all the ‘real’ effort would be in this one. So far the trailer looked solid enough.
Based off the lack of comments and interest in this game, I feel like I’ll be one of very few giving it time come late October 😅
Re: Random: IGN's 'Best Video Game Of All Time' Tournament Is Getting WILD

Oh my god, please! These are some of the finest platformers out there, and ridiculously hard to find at a reasonable price.
This could be a dream announcement in my opinion 🤩

There are decent charities out there and some are iffy, but Goodwill is the pits of exploitation under a happy banner.

Hopefully it’s more in the $40 instead of $60 realm though 🤞🤞
