Re: Nintendo Defends Switch 2's Perceived Lack Of Innovation

@Tempestryke You can compete with yourself actually, its the same reason why Nintendo spaces out the releases of their games instead of clustering them in the same week. The Wii U largely under performed because most Nintendo fans got their fix on the 3DS, which was much cheaper, and had a larger library of games.

A more applicable analogy would be if somebody owned two hardware stores, and invested more into one of them, leaving the other to fall behind in sales due to being understaffed or understocked.

Technology has caught up where handhelds no longer have to be massively inferior to console games in the same way the Gameboy Advance was compared to the Gamecube, so it would be stupid if Nintendo split their market when they can easily combine them into one.

Re: Opinion: It's Time To Get Rid Of Fall Damage

Strongly disagree. Giving the player too many handicaps, bordering on cheat mode, just diminishes the risk/reward factor, which in return makes the game less fun and engaging.

A large part of the fun in games with fall damage is planning your way around them. In Mario 64 for example, the Tick Tock Clock level was very tense because even one missed jump could lead to your doom, even if you landed on the floor, so you were more incentivized to time your jumps carefully. Mario Odyssey pretty much doing away with the risk of falling entirely, just made it less engaging since there was virtually no punishment for messing up.

Its good to have a little fire under the feet of the player, I'm not saying every game has to be Dark Souls, but doing away with risks and punishments entirely just creates diminishing returns imho.

Re: Nintendo's Punch-Out!! Series May Be Dead And Buried For Good

Is there any way to quantify this so called "backlash"? From what I remember, there were only one or two scathing reviews at the time, likely written more for engagement than out of genuine dissatisfaction from the authors.

If a new one were released today, the most probable outcome would be a week's worth of fabricated outrage, which the average consumer, disconnected from the constant buzz of the internet, would remain completely unaware of. After that, life would go on, and the game would ultimately succeed on its own merits.

Besides, I don't see how this game is any more offensive than Street Fighter, which has characters like E. Honda, Dhalsim, and Zangief, who are all stereotypes as well, and nobody seems to care.
