@8bit-Man it's still technically part of the timeline even if it's just a small story in between Metroid 2 and Super.
I was judging it on a gameplay perspective as it's still a Metroidvania starring Samus. I use spinoff as something that's completely different in gameplay or even genres but spawned from an existing universe, something like the Mario sports games or the Wario and Donkey Kong platformers.
I didn't like it much at first since I also didn't really like the last one. I basically went in expecting a Mario Kart clone just to find something way different.
Once I started getting the hang of it, it really grew on me. I've just been having fun playing online mostly, especially city trial.
Dragon Quest is pretty good when it comes to consistent quality. Only one I'd rank low is part 2 with its insane difficulty, and even then it's not a bad game on its own, it just hasn't aged as good as the sequels.
@Jedrus_Lilac that perception of them being the bad guys is very overestimated. Just look at Mario Galaxy 1+2 topping Amazon charts after countless videos on YouTube attacked Nintendo for re releasing Wii ports for full price, or most recently the success of Pokemon.
Most people who play Nintendo just don't know or care about these situations to affect what they purchase.
@Dr_Corndog yeah like it's one thing if they go after a non profit fan game, but people pirating their current stuff while taunting them are just asking for it.
Easily my favorite of the trilogy. It's simplicity at its best, and it's the most pick up and play.
The sequels were good, but I felt they added a bit much to an already perfect formula. All I really wanted was a bigger mansion with the same structure and gameplay.
It's always odd to me how some people try to frame exclusives as some anti consumer practice when it always added more value to a console.
I don't see why I'd buy a PS5 or Xbox when their libraries are so homogeneous, I can easily get most or all of their games on PC. With Nintendo, I'm guaranteed a strong lineup of first party games.
I personally never thought Mega Man 2 was the best, mainly because of how brokenly easy it is thanks to the metal blade practically having infinite ammo as well as being good against like half the robot masters. The soundtrack along with 3 is probably the best though.
I always thought 4, 5, and 6 were the best with how much they perfected and iterated on the formula. I was actually let down when 9 and 10 went back to being like 2 by removing the charge and slide, because I liked when each sequel kept adding on top of the last game.
I'm not surprised, I'm glad I passed on this one. I'm too busy with Galaxy 2 anyways.
Pokemon has lost all appeal to me once the quality got noticeably worse. I would say the series needs a change of course, but it's way too successful for its own good.
@batmanbud2 its always weird to me when people act like Nintendo are politicians raising taxes or something because they don't want to pay full price for a game
10. I think these are the best 3D Mario's because they hit the perfect balance of difficulty without it being as frustrating as Sunshine or too easy like Odyssey.
I also think the level variety and music are amazing.
@benmalsky198 why not? If its already ready made, then why not include it? Smash Ultimate launched with 84 characters, including Pac Man and Mega Man for free, so why can't they be in Sonic Racing day 1?

Re: After Years Of Waiting, Metroid Prime 4's Launch Trailer Is Finally Here
About an hour in and it's my favorite Switch 2 game so far.
Re: Japanese Charts: Well, Look At Who's Snuck Back Into First Place
@Metazoxan it's an amazing game, but Mario Kart wins by having larger casual appeal and brand recognition.
Re: "I'll Get In Trouble" - Yuji Horii "Can't Talk About" Future Chrono Trigger Developments
The game is perfect as is, we really don't need a soulless HD2D remake or some shiny funco pop 3D version
Re: Review: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Switch 2) - Samus Returns In Prime Form
@Sonicka it was about as concerning as people thinking a sonic racing game would dethrone Mario kart
Re: UK Charts: Kirby Is Nowhere To Be Seen In A Quiet Week
It's a great game, but I didn't expect it to have mass appeal. The original only sold like a million.
Kirby was always a low seller for Nintendo with the exception of Forgotten Land.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Meet The Team
Im fine with NPCs being fodder to set the survival and isolation tone of the series
If not, I hope they're not around too much. Metroid works much better with its minimal approach to narrative.
Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Meet The Team
@OmnitronVariant it's part of the mainline series, being 3D doesn't make it a spinoff.
You might as well call Ocarina Of Time a spinoff with that logic.
Re: Feature: The Tightest, Briskest Mario & Luigi Game Turns 20 Today And Deserves More Love
@Sylamp I'd say it's more mid, Brothership is probably the worst imo.
This game felt like such a letdown after how great Superstar Saga was. Thankfully we got Bowsers Inside Story after.
Re: Metroid Prime 4's Official Rating Summary Spotted On ESRB Website
@JohntheRaptor other than being first person and sci fi, what's the similarity?
Metroid is about exploring an interconnected world while Doom is about shooting your way through disconnected stages.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Kirby Air Riders?
Probably a 7 or an 8 so far.
I didn't like it much at first since I also didn't really like the last one. I basically went in expecting a Mario Kart clone just to find something way different.
Once I started getting the hang of it, it really grew on me. I've just been having fun playing online mostly, especially city trial.
Re: Kirby Air Riders Players Are Creating 'Micro Bikini' Machines, But Nintendo's Having None Of It
Sad so many degens expose themselves on a kids game
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Kirby Air Riders?
I earned some extra money this week, so why not?
Re: Video: Nintendo Just Dropped Its Best (Worst?) Song Since DK Rap
Times like this when I really miss the play it loud era for marketing
Re: Video: Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Reveals A Familiar Face In New "Follow-Up" Trailer
Interesting, I always thought keifer left the party too soon despite being in all the promo art.

Re: Zelda: A Link To The Past And Chrono Trigger Are "Ripe For Remakes", Says Analytics Firm
Chrono Trigger is timeless, you can easily just port it as is. The DS version was proof of this.
Re: Sega Provides Updated Sales Figures For Sonic Frontiers And Sonic Superstars
Superstars was a solid 6/10. Really baffling how a sequel to Mania was handled so poorly when the idea practically sells itself.
Re: Sega Provides Updated Sales Figures For Sonic Frontiers And Sonic Superstars
@Tryffel best part of the whole game was the jungle level. That was the closest it felt to Mania.
Re: Nintendo Wins Lawsuit Against 'Pirate' Streamer Who Taunted Company Online
@metaphysician even if some of the criticisms are legit, it's a huge stretch to call Nintendo the big evil of the industry.

Re: Nintendo Wins Lawsuit Against 'Pirate' Streamer Who Taunted Company Online
@Jedrus_Lilac it's gonna get harder and more underground. The people getting sued have all been idiots purposely putting targets on their backs.
Re: Review: Luigi's Mansion (GameCube) - A Spooky Little Romp That Still Sucks You In
Easily my favorite of the trilogy. It's simplicity at its best, and it's the most pick up and play.

Re: Nintendo's Pokémon Catching-Related Patent Has Been Rejected In Japan
@Shade_Koopa the lawsuit isn't over, they can just appeal the patent.
Re: Nintendo's Pokémon Catching-Related Patent Has Been Rejected In Japan
@iLikeUrAttitude they weren't patenting the monster taming genre, this is sensationalism pushed by the Nintendo hate grifters.
They just want to target Pal World exclusively for lazily copying Pokemon designs even going as far as using models like Mewtwo Y.

Re: 50 Best NES Games Of All Time
@harrystein surprised at your take on 4. I always considered that the point in the series where the formula was fully defined.
Re: Talking Point: How Do You Play NES Games These Days?
I own a top loader NES as well as bout 40 games for it in my retro collection.
I understand the convenience of emulators, but I really do prefer the atmosphere of playing it on an old CRT in a dark room at night.
Re: Poll: Is It About Time Game Freak Added Voice Acting To Pokémon?
@Res462 this especially fits well with Pokemon, which was always better as a more pick up and play experience.
I miss the simple days of just becoming the champion rather than having to fight interdimensional aliens or whatever.
Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Stellar Battles, But A Step Down From Arceus
I'm not surprised, I'm glad I passed on this one. I'm too busy with Galaxy 2 anyways.
Pokemon has lost all appeal to me once the quality got noticeably worse. I would say the series needs a change of course, but it's way too successful for its own good.

Re: Rumour: Assassin's Creed Shadows On Switch 2 May Clash With Metroid Prime 4
Never cared for Assassin's Creed, had open world fatigue for a long time now.
Metroid is an easy day one for me, I'm even saving a sick day for it.
Also I misread the title as "Metroid Shadows" which is unironically a cool title.
Re: Notorious Group 'Crimson Collective' Claims To Have Hacked Nintendo
I look forward to people calling Nintendo tyrants for taking legal action against the hackers
Re: Surprise! Dragon Ball FighterZ Is Adding Another Fighter To The Roster In 2026
Would have preferred the GT version without the weird popeye forearms
Re: Review: Yooka-Replaylee (Switch 2) - Feels Like The Game It Was Meant To Be, Finally
I enjoyed the demo on Steam. I really like how much dead filler space was cut out from the levels.
Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?
Brand new AAA priced games? Usually about 3-5. This year I got Doom The Dark Ages, Metal Gear Delta, Mario Kart World, and DK Bananza.
Re: Nintendo's Out To Get $4,500,000 In Damages From Ongoing Switch Piracy Case
@axelhander yeah, inspiration is what leads to new ideas, and artists should have full ownership over their art.
You might as well argue that property rights just exist to harass burglars.
Re: Nintendo's Out To Get $4,500,000 In Damages From Ongoing Switch Piracy Case
@axelhander IP laws are necessary, otherwise anyone can just steal your work.

10. I think these are the best 3D Mario's because they hit the perfect balance of difficulty without it being as frustrating as Sunshine or too easy like Odyssey.

Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me
@MicroMatscenes the sales tell the real story
Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me
@axelhander where do I go?
Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me
@LikelySatan Sonic Adventure was a tonal and aesthetic disaster to the series. I miss the simplicity of the genesis era.
Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me
@AllBLK I agree, mental and emotional issues arent that serious, but this is sonic vs mario were talking about!
Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me
@benmalsky198 why not? If its already ready made, then why not include it? Smash Ultimate launched with 84 characters, including Pac Man and Mega Man for free, so why can't they be in Sonic Racing day 1?
Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me
@SuppressorSteve a year isn't eight years which was my point. Day 1 DLC is scummy because it might as well be a a part of the base game.
Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me
@kailun Mario Kart 8 had DLC early on adding four cups, 200cc mode, and characters like villager or inkling. The booster pass was the one that came later.
It's a given that World will get more since Mario Kart is one of the most successful franchises ever. Sonic will most likely be abandoned in a year since it's just not as popular of a franchise despite the vocal minority wanting it to be so.
