5GB? Does that include all prior updates too? That's gigantic (and further demonstrates that even the 64GB OLED model is too small if a game WITH A GAME CARD needs updates of this size).

The prior sets are generally added to the permanent pool in the next game update. I would expect that when Sora amiibo support is added in February that these Spirits will be officially added to not require a special event.

Can we get 3DS and Wii U 'Best of 2023' lists too?
Even as just a silly article, the likes of Silver Falls and Fragrant Story (especially since last week's update) deserve a final spotlight.

Quality horror game made by one guy, and updated since release to be a much better experience.

Retro-style platformer. You'll die a lot, but the deaths are always funny and punctuated by a voice yellonf 'Bummer'.
Bosses are meh, but the game is worth it.

Cute little RPG.

The fact that this game even exists is an astonishing achievement.

This game is a quality platformer that found an excellent moderate difficulty level. The jokes every day are absolutely excellent too.

You just open the eShop and download the update.
All updates remain available, whether for download-only or physical games.
So, you can still buy a day-1 print of Mario Kart 7 and download the latest patch for online play.

The 'new' physical print is no different from the first one, only the 1.0 barebones version is on the game card. You need yo download the update from the eShop just the same. The game cards for sale today are not new, but already existed but could not be sold due to some manufacturer error.

This update effectively changes it from a demo to an actual game.
The developer was up against release deadlines with the eShop and physical production ending, got this out, and promised a real, complete game later, and now it is here.

That's a shame. Games like Human Resource Machine and TIS-100 make you feel like an absolute genius when you solve some of the puzzles. You learn a lot about programming fundamentals too.

Woah, Evil Ryu was January 2022. Two full years later we get more spirits. Amazing.
Especially interesting since the Sora amiibo (and presumably, the update adding support for the figure) is mid-February, so this is happening first.
All I'm expecting is the Spirits, of course, but a new balance patch would be welcome, as would adding more songs (God-Shattering Star, any character tracks from F-Zero GX, etc.).

Unless SMB Wonder turns out to have a homebrew entry point, no. Historically, Nintendo only ever blocked a few games from starting if they weren't on the latest version, like SmileBASIC on 3DS.

The only problem right now is that each player can't individually choose their run/jump buttons.

Four Swords Adventures as a buddy comedy.

After Game & Wario and Get It Together, Move It is a beautiful return to form.
10/10 for me, might be better than Smooth Moves, but I'll need to get it out at a party to know for sure.

If Nintendo can release Tears of the Kingdom in a fully-playable, no-update-necessary state on the game card, why can't other companies do the same?
We're talking a 16GB game, the same as this release + its mandatory update.
Just put it all on the bigger cartridge, players who want physical will pay more for it.

Wii U even has full video chat. Switch successor should too.
Drift remains completely baffling, considering Nintendo's 20-year history of analog stick NOT doing that.
And imposing some base level of quality control for what is permitted on the eShop is essential.
