Re: Random: Nintendo Pulls Drink Driving Game From Switch eShop

nocdaes

@KingMike Yep, that's all true and it is a challenge to check content. My suggestion would be that the store owner, so in this case Nintendo, updates their payment terms with publishers so they can withhold payment on cases as severe as this one.

Also, maybe I am old fashioned... but do we even want 100 games on the eShop every single week? There is so much garbage put on sale, perhaps if Nintendo did have to screen things more thoroughly then the volume would naturally decrease and quality should also increase as a by-product.

There should also be a better way for consumers to report content.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Most Difficult Mainline Mario Game?

nocdaes

New Super Mario Bros on the DS is a good example of an older Mario game being easier than more recent releases. This is because it establishes certain game mechanics that are further developed/enhanced in future games and become more challenging - the end of world boss shortcuts is a good example of this as they're all very easy to achieve in this game but future games make it more challenging.

So it's definitely not a simple case of "older is harder".

@calbeau Agree that as parents we need to check game content, but I also disagree at the same time and feel the owner of the store, in this case Nintendo, should not be allowing games to go on sale that have not been checked. This highlights a fundamental flaw in the eShop whereby dodgy content is freely made available.

To clarify, no issue with the game content. It's the rating and lack of moderation of the rating that disappoints me. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect Nintendo to check ALL game content before it goes on sale.

Absolutely fair enough if they miss a reference to alcohol... but this is the entire content of the game. That's not good enough and they should be fined and made to explain, and improve, their moderation process.

Re: Random: Nintendo Pulls Drink Driving Game From Switch eShop

Nintendo should be fined for allowing this to be sold on their store with that rating. It's absolute incompetence on their part and highlights, yet again (and like we need more highlights...!) how poorly run the eShop is.

Nintendo make huge sums of profit, not just income, from the eShop. Hire some more staff Nintendo... pay them a decent salary. Give a decent service.

It's good fun and a fair price as others have said. However, for a puzzle game, there's just too much luck involved for my liking. The game needs further refining before I'm going to spend any more time on it.

Have you tried just dropping the fruit without any movement from side to side? It's quite eye opening to see how high a score you can achieve doing this... and highlights my point.

Re: Review: Gargoyles Remastered - One For Cult Disney Die-Hards Only

Definitely checking this one out.

Museum content is an interesting criticism. I feel pretty much every developer could do better in this area. Why is it always a coffee table book? Why isn't there a VR museum experience for gaming?! Seriously. How have Sony not done that already?

Back on topic... I'll pick this up.

Re: Random: Players Share Bananas Gameplay Of New King Kong Game, And It's Not Looking Good

nocdaes

@xDeckardx I agree with you, but there is something amusing about calling this a "cash grab".

Interesting thought here... you know how the eShop charts can be manipulated by putting your game on a 99% sale and then returning to full price after a week when you're in the top position?

Imagine if a developer made a game specifically with that intention in mind... sell nothing at launch. Drop it by 99%. Return to full price and earn a fortune. Pretty shameless.

Re: Poll: Do You Prefer Zelda: Wind Waker HD's Bloom Lighting Or The "Flat" OG?

nocdaes

I just don't understand why so many want this game so soon. We are going to be waiting for a good 5, 6 perhaps even 7 years now until we realistically are going to see a new Zelda game. I'd be happiest if Wind Waker HD came to Switch in a couple of years, and then Twilight Princess a couple of years after that.

I don't want this "double pack" and I don't want it next year!

I guess I can always not play it... why not have the choice right? Well, I'm not so sure it's best. I have a crazy backlog of games as it is - sometimes it feels like games are bought just to be collected and never to be played.

Re: Mini Review: The Many Pieces Of Mr. Coo - Short, Obtuse, But Spectacularly Presented

NL can't review everything... and frankly who would want to anyway with the utter, utter rubbish that floods the Nintendo eShop every week! I like their approach of focusing on mainstream and then picking out a few at random. Works for me.

Like the Surreal Madrid reference! Funnily enough I was just listening to them!! I've been working on some dance music playlists from 1999. SM had a few tunes that year.

Re: Fasten Your Seatbelts, Horizon Chase 2 Is Out Now On The Switch eShop

nocdaes

I've played about 2 hours now. The game is OK. Its obviously a mobile game first and foremost. It's like a cash grab sequel as opposed to building on the first game.

It hasn't built on the first game, in fact it removed the fuel element entirely - which was a challenge on some tracks and meant you did try different cars.

There's a handful of bugs too. Nothing major... a few long loading screens, some visual imperfections. Nothing too bad, but still does need a patch to tidy it up fully.

Overall, it's OK. Could have been so much better though, and I think the developer will feel a bit miserable about releasing this.

Re: The Original Tomb Raider Trilogy Is Getting Remastered For Switch

nocdaes

The original Tomb Raider games deserve a proper remaster not this halfway house nonsense. I'd love to play these games again on Switch, but I'm not bothering with these terrible, lazy remakes.

This is one of the biggest videogame characters in history, in one of the most successful game franchises ever created. Sorry, but this "remake" is not even close to worthwhile.

Do it properly or not at all.

Re: Nintendo Direct September 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions

nocdaes

If there's a Donkey Kong announcement and it ends up being frigging Mario vs Donkey Kong instead of just Donkey Kong that will absolutely suck.

It's been ten years Nintendo. TEN years waiting for a new DK game. How is that even possible? I thought Switch was a success?! How are they not putting one of their biggest characters on one of their biggest consoles?!

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Shares "First Look" At Jean-Claude Van Damme As Johnny Cage

nocdaes

I bought Street Fighter because it came out first. I might pick up MK next year, but I might pick up Tekken next year instead.

One thing I know for certain. I am not buying multiple fighting games in the same year. I like my fighting games. A lot! But I'm not splashing about 60 notes left, right and centre for excessive amounts of fighting games.

The devs are naive if they think their sales won't be hindered by all three coming out so close to each other.

Re: Review: Taito Milestones 2 - A Better Selection With The Fabulous Triple-Screen Darius II

nocdaes

@SpringDivorce I downloaded the game yesterday, so it's definitely the latest version. I beat the Whale boss with 5 arrow shots - I only had to dodge one Water drop from the roof of its mouth.

Level 2-1 not long after the start you have 3 routes to jump up. If you pick the furthest right you have a couple.of star enemies jumping above you that you need to get past. Once you reach the top there should be one of the coolest enemies in the game - this UFO spacecraft thing that you can get in and it shoots the laser weapon. This enemy is missing.

The second boss, the black rocky Octopus thing, I jumped up to the top on the right hand side as it was forming it's octopus shape at the very start of the battle and fired ONE arrow and it was defeated...

The music is off throughout, especially versus the Amiga 500 version.

Re: Review: Taito Milestones 2 - A Better Selection With The Fabulous Triple-Screen Darius II

So... I did buy the New Zealand Story standalone, but it's not right. The World 1 and world 2 bosses both die way too quickly, the music is off in numerous places, there are missing enemies, weird warping enemies when you pick up "fake" extend letters.

Sorry but your review is a bit lazy here. You say this isn't worth it if you bought the standalone... Well, is that actually true. Or not? Is this version actually the New Zealand Story done properly? Because the standalone ain't!
