Look, I get it, nobody wants to pay more. It stinks. But please remember game development of AAA releases is only going to increase greatly each generation. This shouldn’t be a huge surprise.
And then when you take in to account game prices on 64 games when released and even certain SNES/Genesis games, we are paying less after inflation.
So yeah, it stinks. Be mad about it. Don’t buy it if you don’t want to. But don’t whine over it.
8bitdo is great-I like my other controllers from them. I do need a new pro-type controller, so will think about getting one. Definitely would go with the Dark Blue though. I think it looks the best.
I love the Final Fantasy series-but really feel it was filled with disappointment after the PS1 era. Everyone has their own tastes, but if you find yourself similar, I highly recommend this! (And Bravely Default series).
I was there for Gen 1 Pokemon. I loved it. I skipped Gen 2, and played only half way through Ruby, and I didn’t care about the franchise anymore….
Until, on a whim, I picked up White. I fell back in love! It’s my favorite Gen and I’m really hoping to see these remakes. It’d be really cool (though doubtful) to see them make like White/Black 1+2!
White/Black also have my favorite pokemon designs overall. I mean, Charizard and Mew (and others) are so iconic from Gen 1, but overall, I love the Pokemon introduced here more.
Sad to see them go, to be honest. I’d buy a new game, and could use the gold coins to pick up something off-the-wall. An indie on a sale or just some random game I never heard of (which helped my find a favorite: Donut Dojo).
I wonder if others do this too. Will indies be hurt as a result? Also, I wonder what impact the new tariffs have on this, like is this a result of tariffs and trying to keep costs down?
@PikaPhantom I don’t have the exact numbers in front of me…but in short the deal Sony was pressuring Nintendo into would see them get the majority of profits from every game and console (possibly controller…I can’t remember) sold, whether they produced it or not. Iirc, and I may not, this may have also been with the regular SNES units sold.
In short, Sony was pressuring Nintendo into a bad deal, which could have ended them producing hardware at all. Again, it wasn’t nice of them to break the deal in the manner they did…but it had to be done. I also think they probably knew the Phillips deal would be a bust.
Of course, whenever the Sony/Nintendo partnership is mentioned I feel that only one side of the story is mentioned. What Nintendo did to Sony was bad…. But what Sony was trying to do was also bad.
The difficulty options have definitely improved with the Mario series…but yeah, maybe allowing you to select a character and THEN could adjust difficulty would be better. On the other side of the coin, I wanted to play through as Yoshi…but then it almost felt like cheating. It’d be cool to play as the easy characters on normal/hard mode as well.
I’d urge anyone who even has a small interest in this to pick this up. This is my Game of the Year pick. Ubisoft may have made some questionable decisions along the way, but when they are on point they are a force!
I’ve played most of these games. Zelda was a good time, but it didn’t feel like Game of the Year to me. Neither did Astro Bot, FF7R, etc. It bugged me a while, since I didn’t know what I would personally vote for. Then I played Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. That’s my vote. What a wonderful game.
I wish the original Legacy of Kain game was included. The Soul Reaver games are good, but I still have the originals, so I don’t need to dip again, at least right away.
Fantasian I’m planning on getting as soon as possible though.
I haven’t gotten to play DQ3 yet, and it sounds like this has been fixed already…but my chief complaint in gaming in general of the HD years is the text!
We have more screen real estate and a clearer picture than ever, and there are so many games where the text is so tiny it’s difficult to see. I don’t get it.
I bought this recently on sale in the eshop and went in playing not seeing a review or knowing anything about the game. I really enjoy it. I’d give it a solid 7. It reminded me a ton of Spelunky, but I thought this was quite a bit better. My worst gripe is that it’s dark, too dark, at least in handheld mode. Unless you’re playing at night.
@Keegsy it’s…not easy. I got better at it since we had it when I was a kid. (Well, we had RKA, so 1 of the games.) Since I had a lot of time and no money, you get good at what you have.
@KBuckley27 Your first comment was talking about third parties that are going to ditch Switch, which implies they are the ones that are still supporting it. Your 2nd comment refers to the “vast majority” of third parties not currently supporting.
All I’m saying is that while we will see a decrease in support, it won’t be the total abandonment you predict, especially if Switch 2 is backwards compatible. That’s why we’re still seeing a ton of newer games that work on PS4. Also, think of games like Just Dance. Heck, the Wii got one of these not too long ago. I didn’t say, or mean, that companies would start trying to port their AAA games.
@KBuckley27 there will be a decrease, as to be expected, but it won’t be a total abandonment, especially if Switch 2 is backwards compatible. Not all games need the technological increase, and why alienate the Switch 1 install base.
So many great games here that I’d love to see ported. My top 2 would be Chrono Tigger and A Link Between Worlds. Then my top 10 favorite games of all time would be available for me on the Switch!
I’m really looking forward to Arranger! Other than that, will need to wait until the Nintendo Direct to hear of something else new that gets me excited.
I hope we get more! Though, really, I want to see them produce more of the Pyra/Mythra and Sora amiibo. Pre-orders were sold out and I’ve never seen them in person.
Good pick with Chrono Trigger! The problem I have with many RPGs today is their length. I’ve started Persona 5…but after learning it’s well longer than 100 hours I put it down.
This would’ve been great if I was still like 15 and had little money and lots of time on my hands, but not ideal for adult me.
If the magnetic joycons are true, I hope they are reversible. Like so you wouldn’t need separate L and R joycons. My other hope is that it allows you to set decide the orientation. So, for instance, I wouldn’t need to use asymmetrical sticks (WiiU layout time!).
The SNES and PS1 (IV-TAY) are my favorites. I really feel the series took a downturn then…ranging from poor to good from them on. 16 was fun, so hopefully things will start improving again.
A nice surprise announcement. I didn’t like Legends as much as the base games, so I was hoping for Black/White remakes, but I can’t really complain. Excited to see more either way
I found today’s direct to be decent. Not their best, not their worst. None of the games are ones I’m super hyped for, but considering most of these will be released in the Switches eighth year, it’s pretty amazing.
I plan on checking a few of these out while I wait patiently for Switch 2.
I’m still a really fun game…I just don’t think the new stuff is worth the double dipping with this one. I did buy the original day one, I believe though
Also, I have to agree with Polygon. DK ‘94 is the game they should have remade/remastered.
I’m still guess new hardware this holiday season, with a reveal just like 2 months before hand. Like the article’s author said, Switch profits will still be the driving factor for the year.
@HotGoomba I saw someone point out once that Nintendo releases a revolutionary console, and then they follow up with a souped up version (SNES, GC, WiiU).
If they follow this approach, the “gimmick “ May be small.
The follow up consoles never sold ads many as their counterparts though, so maybe it’ll be different this time.

Re: Talking Point: Which Xbox Games Would You Like To See Come To Switch?
I agree with Alana completely, but mostly I want Blue Dragon!
Re: Talking Point: Pokémon Presents Predictions - What Are You Expecting?
I'm guessing we will see a ton of stuff on the anime series and card game...and I don't follow any of that.
A new game will undoubtedly be announced as well...and more than anything I'm hoping for Black/White remakes-they are my favorite Pokemon games!
And, I know I'm in the minority, but I really haven't been disappointed by any of the Switch Pokemon games!

Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Nintendo Remake Ever?
Samus Returns is such a stellar remake, but I think I’d have to go with Donkey Kong for Gameboy.
