Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond: amiibo Unlocks Revealed

mattesdude

It’s kind of a tricky business. You want the amiibo to do something-but you make them too powerful and people complain they are gatekeeping dlc behind the figures. They do too little and people complain of the cost compared to usefulness.

I like to think of them as cool figurines for display…that also do a little something in select games. But I buy them for the former.

Re: Top 100 Nintendo Games, As Chosen By Nintendo Life & IGN

mattesdude

Thanks for sharing. It’s interesting, because, of course, my list looks much different. But then you read comments of what people are complaining about and most of the time I disagree with that choice as well lol. “Putting game X is the 20’s is insane!” I can agree with. But then they continue, “it should be much lower!” No way, it should be higher!

And thus how we have this list…as hundreds (thousands?) of people voted, all with different tastes and preferences. Also, think of the number of people who were born after many of these games were released and probably never played the games. Of course they’d vote for a game they liked and played over one they may have heard was good but never played since it’s too old.

Also, of note, I went through the whole voting thing twice. My favorite game of all time won every match up and ranked first, but my second favorite games lost 4 matches…twice in each go though against my top game. However, since it had 4 losses, it dropped it in the ranking to like 8th….even though it only lost to the 1 game. So it wasn’t a perfect system either.

Re: Switch 2 Launch Title Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster Updated (Version 1.0.2), Here Are The Patch Notes

mattesdude

Loved this on 3DS-and gladly double dipped on Switch 2.

My only complaint on this version was when I was playing with pro controller, and accidentally went into the mini-game screen. It automatically disconnects pro controller as you need the lot cons to play. There was no way to exit out of the mini-game screen though without using the joy cons. So I’d have to get up grab the joy cons from the system, exit out of that screen, go back to where I was, and reconnect pro controller.

I know it’s not a huge issue-but it was annoying.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Checking Out Switch Online's Virtual Boy Service?

mattesdude

For everyone who is saying they won’t play it, I really urge you to try it out if possible! The system didn’t sell well, and was bulky (for a portable system) …but the games I’ve played on it were really fun. I’m thinking there will be a work around for the device… but until we know more about it I can’t say for sure.

Re: Anniversary: Celebrate Unova As Pokémon Black & White Turns 15

mattesdude

I had lost all interest in the series…and Pokemon in general, after Gen1. Tried playing Gen 3 and got bored after a couple gyms. Bought this White on a whim, and absolutely loved it! I’ve been a fan of the franchise since, but Black/White is still my favorite by a long shot! Would love to see a remake!

Re: ICYMI: If You Want To Play Virtual Boy Classics, You'll Need To Buy One Of Nintendo's Accessories

mattesdude

Beyond excited for this. The VB games I’ve played are good fun. It’s a shame the system has such negativity around it, because so many people overlook what it has to offer.

I wondering though…could you use the headset from the VR Labo set here? Or even just make your holder? It really just will split the screen into 2 so each eye is looking at a slightly different image. Also, couldn’t you just look at 1 of the 2 images and forgo the 3D effect? Not the best way to play, for sure, but you could at least test it out to see if you want to buy/build a headset.

I wish they’d release the games on a physical cart too…so in 20 years when the service if off line I could still play. That’s my only gripe.

Re: Switch Online's Mature N64 App Expands With Another Title This Week

mattesdude

Late in the Gen 4 lifecycle my bro and I went on different paths. He wanted PlayStation, and I wanted N64. He had a part time job though, and I was in middle school. He got a PS1 day 1. I had to save up for a long time, seeing all these great games come out on N64. I remember reading about Smash Bros, which of course wasn’t a big name then and seemed more like a fanfic game. But I had to have it! I eventually got enough money for a N64 system (with an extra atomic purple controller!) and Smash Bros. After everything I would have less than $20 left. I looked around BestBuy-and I found Forsaken for $10! It was settled! I went home with a 64, 2 controllers, Smash Bros. and Forsaken. It was a long ride home-but that may have been the greatest moment of my gaming life. (I have kids-which take precedence for the greatest non-gaming moments )

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (16th August)

mattesdude

I went to try TotK on Switch 2 to see the improvements, and got sucked in and played through the whole thing. Still have the Zelda itch, I’m playing through BotW. I only played it once upon launch, so it’s nice to go through again-but forgot how TotK improved almost every aspect of the game for me.

Meanwhile, DK and Bravely Default are still waiting for me with saves just like 5 hours in on both. And UFO50 looks so intriguing! I’m set for a couple months!

Re: Best Virtual Boy Games

mattesdude

Quite a few good games here! I feel the system gets a bad reputation, but it’s quite entertaining, even today. Mario Clash is currently at a 6.2, which is such a shame. It’s great! Makes me wonder how many people scored it with actually playing it.

Re: PSA: Switch 2 Restocks Are Now Available At Multiple Stores In The US

mattesdude

I’m in the US. I can’t speak for everywhere, but I’ve not seen a Switch2 yet. They sell out immediately when they come in. I often wonder if an employee is taking these “fully stocked” pictures as they finish putting them in the case/before the store opens. This isn’t the norm…not within 50-100 miles of me anyway.

Re: Smash Bros. Director Sakurai Laments 'Unsustainable' AAA Game Dev, Discusses AI And Uncertainty

mattesdude

I am not endorsing AI in this post.

I do feel like people see generative AI as mostly “slop”. It’s usually pretty easy to pick what AI did, and it really brings the product down when that’s what you notice. What people forget though, is that the generative AI stuff, for a big part, is still in infancy. If you look at let’s say pictures produced by AI, the progress towards realism in the last few let’s say 5 years is significant. In another 5, or 10, 15, etc. it’s only going to get more and more difficult to distinguish.

Re: Editorial: Gamers, Support The People And Sites You Love, Before It's Too Late

mattesdude

This is quite sad.

Unfortunately, I think the gaming community has many more hardships on the way. costs everywhere rising faster than income. This means people have less money for games. On top of that, there are so many people who yearn for the newest, biggest, prettiest game yet-but don’t want to pay more. (Why would you?)

Get ready to experience AAA games at a premium price, or more affordable indie games. But if we want the industry to truly strive, we will need to embrace the changes-our money supports everyone in the industry. Don’t like the premium prices? Support indie.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Card Release

mattesdude

@1UP-HUSKY I prefer them keeping the storage low. If they made it larger the cost would go up more so than the cost for me to upgrade storage with a memory card. And I won’t need the extra space right away. It’s really a good move imho.

Re: Sony Vet Shuhei Yoshida Says Nintendo Is "Losing Their Identity" With Switch 2

mattesdude

Someone pointed out once:
Revolutionary.———Upgrade
NES………………………..SNES
N64…………………………GameCube
Wii…………………………..WiiU
Switch…………………….

So, most likely the so called “Switch2” was just going to be an upgraded Switch. And then it was finally revealed to be…Switch2, and that’s exactly what it was.

Re: "Don't Let Nintendo Ruin The Entire Industry" - Is $80 For Mario Kart World A Bridge Too Far?

mattesdude

Look, I get it, nobody wants to pay more. It stinks. But please remember game development of AAA releases is only going to increase greatly each generation. This shouldn’t be a huge surprise.

And then when you take in to account game prices on 64 games when released and even certain SNES/Genesis games, we are paying less after inflation.

So yeah, it stinks. Be mad about it. Don’t buy it if you don’t want to. But don’t whine over it.

Re: Poll: Which Pokémon Game Really Deserves A Remake Next?

mattesdude

I was there for Gen 1 Pokemon. I loved it. I skipped Gen 2, and played only half way through Ruby, and I didn’t care about the franchise anymore….

Until, on a whim, I picked up White. I fell back in love! It’s my favorite Gen and I’m really hoping to see these remakes. It’d be really cool (though doubtful) to see them make like White/Black 1+2!

White/Black also have my favorite pokemon designs overall. I mean, Charizard and Mew (and others) are so iconic from Gen 1, but overall, I love the Pokemon introduced here more.

Re: Opinion: Scrapping Gold Points Makes Sense For Nintendo, But It's A Bitter Pill For Loyal Fans

mattesdude

Sad to see them go, to be honest. I’d buy a new game, and could use the gold coins to pick up something off-the-wall. An indie on a sale or just some random game I never heard of (which helped my find a favorite: Donut Dojo).

I wonder if others do this too. Will indies be hurt as a result? Also, I wonder what impact the new tariffs have on this, like is this a result of tariffs and trying to keep costs down?
