@Vil When was that exactly? Unless you're talking about the NES or NSMB (Which... everyone complains about), there's always been large gaps between Mario platformers.
@CharlieGirl Why wouldn't they? If Pokemon whatever worked with them on 3DS, I don't see why it's unlikely Pokémkon home will this gen. It'll be a one way transfer, but w/e
@Lizuka Well the original price of the 3 games was $180. They then rereleased them for $60, at basically no development cost to them. I don't see how this is different than people complaining that a game was released as a $20 players choice, then later ported at more than $20.
@Lizuka It's $40, not $60, and as far as I've seen so far, they've redone the music, textures, lighting and models for everything in the game, on top of implementing pretty much any control scheme you could want. Not exactly a lazy port.
@scoot They expire after a year, I wouldn't call that quick. But more to the point, most people only bought one if there's two games already out or with release dates they want, rather than buy it and hold onto it in hopes something will come out. Like... that's the point of them? I dunno anyone who gambled on them.
I really would kill for Viewtiful Joe 3 or a collection of the first 3 games... Too bad it'll never happen. Kinda crazy we haven't gotten an indie successor yet.
@Sisilly_G Check the photos. They're all photos of the box. Not a single photo in that set shows the person actually having the console, just the box for it.
Anyways, I'm going with real, cause this design is too meh for an elaborate mockup to make sense.
Hm... If free updates mean we might get characters... I'd expect: Pauline, Diddy, and King Boo I think. Definitely characters that are in Tour to reuse animations, and those are all notable omissions in 8.
I'm not a huge fan of the Forest Temple, but I'd have put Dodongo's cavern somewhere on this list instead when it comes to OOT. The cavern might be relatively simple, but moments like bombing the eyes, the staircase, lifting pillars, a fun boss, etc make it one of the most memorable dungeons in the series in my book.
As for others... Wind Waker doesn't have a bad dungeon, it's hard to say the two on the list deserve it more than the three that didn't make it.
And perhaps Ocean Palace from TAoL? Probably a controversial choice, but I think it's easily the high point of that game (It's definitely not Great Palace lol), and I'd probably rank it above Stone Tower (as much as I enjoy that temple, it is a bit of a mess)
@EarthboundBenjy Yup! The big difference is that on gameboy, there's only 4 colors (black, dark grey, light grey, white) so MissingNo actually looks semidefined. I'm not sure what color mode Prime used (probably 16 million colors though) but having so many more and taking more bits per color made it far more evenly random.
@Lizuka I dunno about that. Wario Land 2 / 3 (not so much 4) had a very unique niche in being essentially a 2D version of Mario Odyssey, where you needed to explore for treasure, gain powers from the various enemies, and in 3, could even make changes to the levels themselves to bolster exploration. Plus 2's split narrative is something not seen in any platformer since. Unlike Mario's almost arcadey nature, DK's flowing and difficult levels, or Yoshi's meandering and soft level designs, Wario is first and foremost their exploration platformer, a niche somewhere between Mario and Metroid.
4, while a good game, is where the series lost track of what made it worthy of being a separate platformer from the other options IMO.
@CodyMKW Please, as if. The job market for programmers, QA testers, etc is ridiculously in favor of job seekers at the moment. Heck, even janitors are in high demand. Even if Blizzard shut down (which, I'm not advocating either way about atm), I'd bet 99% of employees would have a new job within a month.
@SmaggTheSmug The insane bloom isn't inherent to HD-2D, that's an Octopath / Triangle thing. DQ III has toned it down, and Live a Live toned it down even more.
@Arcamenel The comics are fantastic, and I've heard good things about the novels (though I haven't read those yet), so at least we're getting some good things.
@alexybubble We know some of Diddy Kong Racing. Nintendo owns Diddy, Tricky the Triceratops (the boss that later appeared with a new design in Star Fox Adventures), and Krunch.
Rare owns Conker, Banjo, and Tiptup without question. I think the rest remain a mystery afaik.
@Serpenterror What last Zelda collection didn't sell well? The GameCube one was never even sold in stores, you had to renew a magazine subscription to get it. AFAIK, no Zelda collection has ever had a retail release.
@Teddie-bear I don't believe so. Based on the developer communication it sounds like Ty 3 is possible. It's more likely it's just going to take significantly longer to port Ty 3, so they did this as a side project so they'd have a release for the anniversary.
@MajinSoul CoD sequels started really getting complaints when they cut the story mode entirely and gameplay iteration dropped. Which, thankfully has been reversed (somewhat). But they also release them literally yearly, and the three rotating developers mean that it's not a consistent iteration and improvement. I think people would be a lot kinder to CoD if we only got every fifth game a la Splatoon's release cycle.
At least Splatoon 3 feels significantly improved when playing (based on the demo anyways). Spawning is hugely improved, the netcode appears to be better (I didn't have any wtf deaths, and that seems to be the general consensus), the specials are better than 2s imo, you can practice while waiting for games, etc.
Based on what we've seen and heard, it looks like that improvement will carry over to all modes. It might not be a must play game, but it's still going to easily be at the best option to play Splatoon if you want to play Splatoon.
@Jprhino84 Really? Cause I thought I made it clear that I don't want Nintendo to firebomb the Mario IP again when they're just starting to relax. If this succeeds, that's all but guaranteed to happen within the next decade. Dunno how that's selfish.
And to be clear... More good movies would be nice, but I really wouldn't care if I didn't think this was preface to Nintendo wrecking all creativity with Mario again to try and repair the damage these movies will do.
@UmbreonsPapa Of course I haven't. But I do know the following:
A: The entire marketing campaign so far has been about "Look at all these famous people, most of whom don't have decent voice acting experience but we hired just because they're famous." And no, I'm not saying it's all of them aren't VAs, but most of them aren't. You'd think it'd be a bad idea to cast a lead actor and actress who have basically no voice acting experience, but here we are.
B: It's Illumination, their track record is horrific.
Given those two factors, the chances of the movie being good are minimal. Again, if it's good, then good for it, but given that it almost certainly won't be I hope that we don't have yet another case of famous actors carrying a terrible movie and Hollywood getting rewarded for the practice. I hate the practice of hiring famous actors for animated movies just to act as an advertising point.
@Zequio ? I mean that'd be great if it did happen, but the chances are slim to none of this movie being even marginally acceptable. If it does great, but if not, I want it to burn financially so that there's a chance we might get a good one someday.
EDIT: Also, if this does well financially and it's a bad movie, they'll bloat the market with sequels until the Mario IP is damaged and Nintendo ends up pulling back on mario releases everywhere (again). Last time that happened we lost most of the good spin-offs and Paper Mario got destroyed, I'd rather not see take 2.
@Comicdude Dunno how it's selfish. I want more people to have good movies, and if movies like this succeed there will be less good movies for everyone to watch.
@Not_Soos It doesn't have to contradict the existing lore - Don't forget, Gerudo mate with Hylians. After enough time has passed, most, if not all Gerudo are also descended from Hylia. And more easily, it's entirely possible Link's father would be Hylian, and his mother Gerudo.
@EarthboundBenjy I mean, I like Klefki, so I agree with you, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a hard sell to most people. Binacle is honestly cute, but Barbaracle... that thing gives me the creeps.
@Thoughts Oh Tri-Color defending was super fun. Totally unbalanced mind you, but super fun. Every win felt so dang good, and the absolute chaos of defending required tons of split second decisions.
Kalos got dipped hard. Pyroar, Greninja, Talonflame, Clauncher, Pumpkabook, Trevenant, Dragalgae, Aegislash, Pangoro, Heliolisk, Florges and Gogoat all in one of the smallest dexes? And that's without mentioning favorites like Noivern, Hawlucha or Sylveon that the articles does. Tyrantrum and Auroros are only second to the Sinnoh fossils IMO. And Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde are probably my favorite box trio too. Even the mythicals are decent, with Hoopa and Volcanion being among the better mythical mons.
IDK, what a weird choice. Like I won't defend Binacle, Aromatisse, or Klefki, but it's still such a good dex.
Scissors lost mainly due to people not knowing how to defend in tricolor turf... I think it might actually be balanced well, but there's def more of a learning curve to defend than to attack.

Kirby being a wormhole makes sadly a lot of sense with the existing lore

One of the worst-looking Japanese Megaman box arts of the era... NA is no looker, but at least it's a better feel than JP.

@Serpenterror I dunno, faster load times and two item slots both sound like fantastic improvements to me.
