@Allspice Okay, but Digimon World has basically nothing in common with Pokemon in terms of gameplay. A clone would imply... Some sort of similar mechanics? They're both JRPGs (sorta) but that's it. I don't see why that game counts as the start more than the V-Pets.
@MostHandsieBoy You do realize that Digimon and Pokemon hit the market within months of each other? Neither was a clone of each other (...both were of Shin Megami Tensei but that's another story)
@Axecon While they may be rushed, Gen IX is a huge improvement from SwSh. Sure it doesn't look great still, but SwSh looks worse than upscaled Sun and Moon at times. These games look almost in the realm of acceptable on Switch.
@Snatcher They hired basically all the core employees from AlphaDream when they collapsed, the company itself was worthless so they just got the important part, the people.
@uptownsoul For the past year, yes. Ever since the launch of PS5/XBSX stock constraints have driven sales numbers instead of demand.
The same thing happened back when the Switch first launched, and when the PS4 launched (though not the XB1 iirc). What's unusual is that it's happening outside of the launch window.
@Purgatorium Yeah, it's regional... For the most part. Though typically so many of the characters have crazy backstories taking them all over that it's excusable when it isn't.
@Burning_Spear I dunno, the bonuses one I might agree with you on if they weren't paying people wages just below the poverty line, and at a rate around half that of comprable positions, with the difference made up by the bonus.
@MS7000 If you couldn't gel with 2's battle system, I recommend trying Torna at least. It has a completely unique battle system that's much better than 2's IMO.
Jeez, clicked into the eurogamer article for more details and how do people even afford food and housing on the salary they're being paid there? That'd be well below what's considered poverty level wages around here.
I feel rather vindicated now at my disapproval of BDSP and SS that people were claiming was people being graphics snobs lol. The issues with those games went far beyond shoddy graphics. Legends is fresh in an entirely different way. It's got a ton of room to improve with sequels mind you, but it's the first time since B2W2 that the series has capture the feeling of exploration and experimentation that made me fall in love with it in the first place.
Looks like Bayo 3 will be the last platinum game I ever play, sad. GaaS are terrible in general, Splatoon is probably the last remaining IP in that genre I have interest in.
@HamatoYoshi I'd bet money that Splatoon 3 is the big May/June game. Given we don't know what's coming out around then, it seems unlikely that it'd be put in the same crowded time of year as BotW2 with how big both titles are.
@chatsworth Incorrect again. The NFT doesn't contain the rights in those cases, as I said. The rights are transferred separately via terms of use. The NFT is just extra baggage alongside the actual sale.
@chatsworth Yeah, so you need to approach the real artist (assuming you know who that is and aren't being misled) and have then personally verify. So... What's the point of the Blockchain? You could personally verify ownership of digital art from the original artist now, and that sort of ownership might actually have... Yknow... Legal rights with it. Whereas NFTs don't grant any usage rights whatsoever (and before you say some do, the usage rights aren't tied to the NFT, but assigned separately).
@chatsworth ...except how do you validate that the person on the other end of the Blockchain is who they claim to be. Just because you know the code of who updated it doesn't mean there's any way to validate that it's someone with the rights to sell the image.
@Ironcore While all assets have some form of decay, NFT's lack of regulations means the chances of decay are significantly higher than most other forms of assets. I've had several friends have to DMCA down their artwork that had been stolen and NFTed, and with so many competing registries we'll likely see most of them collapse in the next few years. That doesn't even get into the question of 'Why bother using crypto if you're going to depend on a centralized registry anyways'.
I don't think it's misinformation to point out that the fact that many, if not most NFTs will be worthless in the next ten years means that people need to get other people to take them off their hands before it collapsed on them.
@Ironcore Well, they are a type of pyramid scheme. NFTs are all ticking time bombs in when they'll become worthless eventually. (since they only work so long as the server the image is hosted on stays up). So the only way to make a profit in the market is to resell everything you buy at a higher value to someone else and let them get screwed over.
That still falls under pyramid scheme, even if it's not the typical method.
Well, Bungie has never made a Switch game, Activision had gotten rid of all it's Switch developers in exchange for more COD, and Blizzard ported it's only old console games already. I don't think any of this will affect Nintendo any time soon. Blizzard barely ever puts games on their systems anyways.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Do you know what Outride doesn't have...? Rumble pak support. Turning it off for that game would make no difference. They already have per-game setups for each title that enable different features implemented (that's why they turn off fog in OoT for some horrible reason despite it being in other titles).
@dopey-grin Given that Dread started development before Prime 4 went to Retro (it was immediately after Samus Returns came out) I highly doubt that's why. Dread wasn't made in 6 months or anything, it had a 4 year development cycle (which is longer than Retro's Prime 4 has had mind you).
I had no idea this series was on Dreamcast, I'd only played it on Nintendo platforms.
...Though admittedly, I didn't know Sonic Adventure 1&2 on GCN were ports either growing up, I was always just confused to never see Sonic Adventure without the DX in any stores.
@Specter_of-the_OLED I mean, this hack is definitely not on that level of constant go-go-go. For the most part, it's very similar to Celeste, alternating section of constant movement and safe break locations.
Admittedly, it starts in difficulty closer to around Chapter 5 or so, rather than Chapter 1, but that's to be expected when it's aimed at people who've beaten Celeste.
@MarioBrickLayer ...but FIFA as it is now is literally the butt of every joke about sports games? Articles on the regular talk about it being a casino, and I actually know parents who are starting to ban any sort of sports game from their household because of their reputation.
I think FIFA might be starting to realize that their brand is in danger if EA continues. It's only small damage so far, but I wonder how another 10 years of ultimate team adding more microtransaction would affect things.
@SuperZeldaFun There's no laws against hostile takeovers between Sony and EA, while there is between Microsoft and Nintendo. Nintendo also cares far more about being independent as a company culture. It makes more sense for Microsoft and Nintendo to remain allies over a buyout.
@dkxcalibur No they wouldn't, FIFA and EA are on the outs, their PGA deal expired, Tennis isn't centralized and 2K would still have NBA / WWE. They'd only have... Baseball, NFL and NHL I think?
@SalvorHardin ...no viral marketing team needed. All they did was offer the story to WSJ while the merger was the hot topic, internet forces will spread it from there without any outside interference.
@tabris95 I mean, not to anyone who's played both... the notes not reappearing after each death alone is the biggest possible QoL improvement there could be.
Unfortunately, I doubt Microsoft will ever allow Nintendo to use anything but the N64 original...
...mixed feelings. I don't think this is as monopolistic as people act. A-B has fallen significantly from their height as a publisher, CoD is their only regularly released product at this point. Considering Toys for Bob is on CoD duty and Vicarious Visions shut down (and both are the only studios to put out or announce any non-COD games this decade so far), the Activision side was collapsing. Blizzard hasn't put out a new game since 2016 (6 years ago), and WoW is finally dying (and was always Microsoft exclusive anyways).
They may be notable in terms of their IP catalog, but their very low output outside of a single franchise makes this not really monopolistic. Same thing with Bethesda. Removing them only is a drop in the bucket of major game releases, like... One cod game a year, and one blizzard game every ~8 years or so are all that's lost.
I can't see this getting stopped. Still dont like it but...
@Yorumi True, but so far every single videogame NFT has been centralized, and I don't foresee the companies agreeing to let GameStop do a decentralized service.
@MatoFilipovic An NFT is just a code to 'something'. In the case of videogames, it's usually a code to a cosmetic of some sort you can use in game. It doesn't have to be a picture.
In the case of Quartz for example, every NFT let's you use a gun with it's specific pattern and serial #.
...Which is no different from the microtransactions before, other than costing more and having a serial #.
@NEStalgia Except everything you described doesn't require crypto to work... Not to mention that video game companies (i.e. Ubisoft Quartz) are making their NFT programs centralized, so they'll still be able to randomly revoke ownership, ban sales, shut down old versions of games or charge on every transaction, rather than the properly decentralized system crypto was supposed to provide.
@MatoFilipovic Typically? So far it's just been implemented as another form of microtransaction, but even more expensive since now there's a backend cost to it thanks to the blockchain.
Also, the companies that have done it so far have kept control of the ledger, making it literally no different than if they used a private database to sell the items, other than energy cost.
EDIT: The theoretical plus is that you can resell the items... But Steams been doing that for years with their cards without having Blockchain involved. And we all know how much those items go for. Thanks to the necessity of a purchase fee on every transaction with blockchain, you won't be making anything doing so.
