Mega Man X2 - Box Art Brawl: Duel
Image: Nintendo Life

Hi Folks - welcome back to another edition of Box Art Brawl!

In last week's battle, we took a look at The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the GameCube, pitting North America and Europe against Japan. It wasn't a close one, either: North America and Europe absolutely smashed it, bringing in 86% of the vote at the time of writing. Indeed, the very first comment on the piece from 'Scooby-Doo' nailed it by stating "The one with the dog wins. Easy."

We couldn't agree more, Scoob.

This week, we're going to check out Mega Man X2 for the SNES. The second entry in the 'X' sub-series launched in Japan back in 1994 before making its way to North America and Europe in 1995. General reception was mostly positive, though some thought that it didn't really change things up enough when compared to the first game.

It's a good old-fashioned duel this week between North America / Europe and Japan since the western design is more or less identical. So let's get cracking!

Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let's check out the box art designs themselves.

Europe / North America

The western design for Mega Man X2 is very action-oriented. It showcases X himself zooming along in his Ride Chaser, with Magna Centipede looking suitably menacing in the background. You can also see a couple of other Mavericks and standard enemies further out in the background, but why X seems to be running away from them, we don't know. You should be fighting them! Anyway, this is a really nice composition and reflects the opening scene of the game rather well. Man, we wish the Ride Chaser would show up more often...

Japan's design is incredibly eye-catching and utilises the portrait orientation to great effect. Here, you've got quite literally all of the Mavericks in full view with X front and center. You can even see Sigma looming in the distance! We'd argue that perhaps the composition is a bit too busy, overall, but there's no denying it's a gorgeous piece of artwork.

Which region got the best Mega Man X2 box art?

Thanks for voting! We'll see you next time for another round of the Box Art Brawl.
