A hefty update is set to come to Splatoon 3 on September 29th for North America and September 30th for Europe and Japan.
The update is mainly focused on fixing communication issues as well as certain problems which have arisen during online battles.
The full patch notes were published by Nintendo Japan, with the following translation being provided by Perfectly Nintendo:
Ver 1.1.2 - September 29th/30th, 2022
Changes to communications
- Additional measures have been taken in order to tackle the issue with communication errors occurring frequently at the end of battles or Salmon Run shifts, depending on the network environment.
Changes to Player Controls
- Fixes an issue occurring when using Dualies: if you hold down the ZL button and perform a dodge roll while holding down the ZR button, you stop shooting and switch to your squid / octopus form the moment the dodge roll is over.
- Fixes an issue occurring when using the Drop Roller ability: if you press the ZR button while holding down the ZL button while performing a roll, you switch to your squid / octopus form the moment the roll is over even though you’re holding down the ZR button.
- Fixes an issue occurring when using the Splatana: if you perform a horizontal slash immediately after a charge slash, you perform two horizontal slashes instead of one even though you only pressed the ZR button once.
Changes to Battles
- Fixes an issue causing players to become immune to damage for a certain amount of time after the protective shield granted by Booyah Bombs is destroyed.
- Counter-measures have been implemented in order to address an issue impacting the Tacticooler: if a Tacticooler is placed in the corner of certain maps and players switch from their squid / octopus form to their human form right next to it, they can reach out of bound areas.
Other Changes
- Fixes an issue causing the game to crash when exiting locker customisation with a photo frame in your locker.
- Fixes an issue impacting the Catalog: if a communication error occurs, or the game is shut down, when your Catalog level reaches 100 and the next Catalog becomes available at Hotlantis, the event where you can claim the Catalog will not be triggered again.
- If you have already encountered that issue, simply head to Hotlantis after downloading the update to claim your new Catalog.
- If you participated in the first Splatfest and saw the final results announcement but did not receive your Super Sea Snails, the final results announcement will play again and you will be able to claim your rewards.
Notes: this update is a hotfix aimed at providing additional fixes for communication-related issues and correcting some issues related to player controls and battles.
Regarding communication errors, we have found that players can be disconnected from the server during battles and Salmon Run shifts due to a combination of settings from their network device and internet service provider. We have taken measures in order to prevent such disconnections, and to make it possible for the connection to be restored in case errors are encountered.
Other temporary fixes have been applied to deal with some issues impacting how gameplay feels and the responsiveness of controls.
Regarding the issue of players reaching out of bound areas using the Tacticooler, we felt it was more important for us to provide an incomplete fix quickly rather than leave it as it is while we’re working on a complete fix. If players are found to inconvenience other players by abusing this glitch, they will be suspended in accordance with the terms of the Nintendo Account Agreement.
The next update will focus primarily on balance adjustments and other issues that were outside the scope of the current update. We continue to observe and analyze battle data and are planning to make adjustments at the midpoint of the current season.
You'll need to update your game before you're able to head back online to cause inky mayhem, so make sure you do that when the update goes live in your region! However, this patch doesn't appear to address the issue with hitboxes that we reported on earlier today.

Excited to hear a balance update is coming soon. Mainly hoping for Sloshing Machine and Tenta Missles nerfs and buffs for Stringers, Jr., and Aerospray.
It mentions disconnects during battles and Salmon Run but what about the lobbies? That’s where the bulk of them have been. I want to love the new lobbies but I’m afraid they’re too bloated for the game’s own good. I REALLY hope this improves because it’s seriously tarnishing an otherwise fantastic game.
As a Dualies main I did in fact experience the roll bug and quite frequently at that. I always thought I was just pressing things wrong. Good thing they were on top of it.
I'm really glad that they're continuing to improve communication errors.
Just waiting on the first round of buffs/nerfs
@LiNeR I don't think the Aerospray needs a buff. I am very happy with it. I am constantly the top inker by a long shot in standard play. If they make it any more powerful, I will be unstoppable.
I do love me some techy patch language in the afternoon. Excited for the upcoming balance update as well!
@Crockin I don't care what the hell happens so long as Ultra Stamp gets fixed. There are so many weapons I want to play (Mini Splatling, Splatana Wiper, Sploosh, etc.) that are utterly ruined by that special being on them so a fix so that it at least works like it did in 2 would be sorely needed if you ask me.
nerf that damn blaster jump RNG. why is it even a thing???
@Fizza yeah it’s really bad. I went all the way to S+ in splat zones with sploosh. End of an era
@SoManyHaveDied This! So much this! The blaster was my original main from Splatoon 1 until I picked up the Sloshing Machine. But I always had it as my OHK weapon (1-Hit Kill). Then the Great Jump RNG Nerf of Splatoon 2 happened and I could never pick it up again. At the very least in Splatoon 3 we can now use the Intensify Action Up ability to help mitigate the spread and the wideness of the spread (just eyeballing I noticed around 15% reduction of spread range at the start of a jump with just 1 Intensify Action Up main chunk). But the jump nerf should never have happened in the first place, it’s already not that easy to get a direct hit, especially with the motion control lag from Splatoon 2, let alone the improved motion controls in 3. Unless we’re getting WiiU level motion control performance, they should have just left Blasters alone.
Don’t mind me. I’m just gonna be waiting here, hoping the bows get buffed. pleading emoji
@masterLEON yeah but its just like main power up where it messes with my build and im stuck stacking intensify action, which i dont wanna do. still maining the range blaster, good thing armor isnt around anymore.
connecting update is a welcome need. sooo wanting new content, especially weapon alts. Nov. is a long wait.
Nintendo NEEDS to outsouce its online backbone development and structure. I've NEVER encountered so many connection problems in a game before in my whole life.
@Clark2k agree entirely. nintendo is stuck in 1995!!
Hopefully it fixes the issue where people keep saying "ink the base oh my God" and by the end of the match not having any base left to ink because the enemy has taken over the whole map while they were too distracted to notice the other team almost on top of them 😂
@Clark2k This is really strange. I'm seeing quite a number of people saying this yet I haven't experienced any issues at all. I wonder what's causing it? I use a wired connection so if possible try that and see how it goes.
I’m glad i didn’t buy that game
@Clark2k are you using wifi or ethernet? i am using ethernet and never had single disconnect...
the wifi receiver on the switch is just garbage
@T0biasCZe
The disconnects appear to be from the game itself and not someone's poor internet connection. I'm running off a Wifi 6 network at 5.0GHz with close to a gigabit download speed, but I'm still experiencing a large number of connects, but the rest of the gameplay runs incredibly smooth.
@Dev9417 No, it mentions disconnects AFTER salmon run or battles. As in, disconnects that take place between matches.
I'll just wait until they decide to fix Salmon Run's difficulty problem. >.>
@Joeynator3000
I don't think they are going to fix that... since it isn't an outright problem. Maybe it was just the weapons of the day that were bad for you?
@ok1 It's not, I've heard plenty of people saying that the mode is way more difficult compared to the second game. It's near impossible for me to win any games now and there's nothing I can do to lower the difficulty a bit.
@LiNeR Aerospray doesn't need a buff. It's too dominant as it is. To be specific, the Aerospray weapon itself is fine, but the Reefslider pairing is too much because it's far too easy to get specials even without ability modifiers. If anything, it needs a nerf to slow down the acquisition of Reefsliders.
The Aerospray has been one of my go-to's since the first game and this version is very reminiscent of the Aerospray RG with Ink Mine and Ink Strike from S1, which was a high level weapon that ended up dominating Turf War. Except this one is a level 4 weapon.
"If players are found to inconvenience other players by abusing this glitch, they will be suspended in accordance with the terms of the Nintendo Account Agreement."
I hope this finally puts an end to the whole 'is abusing glitches truly cheating?' charade
We need Splatoon 4 much more than we need another Pokémon game.
Update is now live it seems. Can't wait to see how the dualies work with that bug fix.
@LiNeR Omg I agree, the Sloshing Machine's hitbox is insane, it can even hit enemies through walls and the Tenta Missile spam is out of control, especially with Reef-Lux 450 and people stacking special charge up >.<
On the other hand, I find Aerospray even a bit oppressive with how easy it's to build Reefslider with it! I feel like the stringers are in a great spot though, Reef-Lux 450 is great for inking and harassing and rewards accuracy, and the Tri-Stringer is great for denying turf and longer range splatting as a kind of hybrid between an explosher and a charger
They're just something new we need to figure out how to use and take advantage of!
It seems to have solved the network errors, so far so good.
