Re: Don't Worry, Zelda: BOTW 2 Is Reportedly Still Aiming To Launch Next Year

link3710

@rjejr You're telling me a game that took 5 years to develop using reused assets and physics engine, is likely to be delayed? I'm not saying developments gotten easier, but a game like this should be far easier to predict the length of development. The probabilitiy of delays aren't about how difficult a game is to develop, but how likely it is that unseen factors will break the planned timeline.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Gameplay Concepts Revealed In Nintendo Patents

link3710

@Gwynbleidd They aren't patenting falling angles. The patent only covers situations where:
1. The button inputs involved are identical, specifically A for toggling states and R for speeding up. If a different controller labeling scheme is used it's invalid.
2. The falling character is wielding a bow and arrow
3. The archery stance is changed based on the angle between the current direction and a set reference angle
4. The player can speed up falls
5. The player can toggle between horizontal and vertical stances at will.
6. It's from a third person perspective.

If any condition is not met, the patent doesn't cover it.

Edit: also, the point of a super specific patent like this is it prevents anyone else from releasing a more generalized patent of the idea that this would be a specific instance of, making sure they can't be locked out of using it.

Re: Nintendo Takes More Risks With Prototypes, Says Metroid Prime Developer

link3710

@AstroTheGamosian ARMS isn't their last big new IP. LABO comes to mind as a crazy risk (that didn't pay off), they own Astral Chain even if they didn't develop it, and certainly supported it's creation. Ring Fit Adventure also got crazy big as a new IP, and was certainly a risk after Wii Fit U flopped. They published and helped fund both Daemon Ex Machina and Octopath Traveler too.

Re: Playtonic's Original Yooka-Laylee Game Is Getting A Follow-Up Title

link3710

After playing Impossible Lair and watching them make a game that actually came close to Tropical Freeze in quality on a tiny budget, I have renewed faith that Yooka-Laylee 2 could finally catch up to the old Banjo-Kazooie titles. The developers have made it clear they are well aware of what people didn't enjoy with the first title, and I expect that feedback to help shape the sequel.

Re: Switch Online Surpasses 32 Million Subs, Nintendo Says It Will Continue To "Improve And Expand" Expansion Pack Tier

link3710

@the4seer Okay whoops, I misremembered that you were talking about the dislikes and the angry comments, not the boycotts, that was someone else.

And... is that a problem that it has had a target on it's back? Nintendo is blocking both P2P gaming and gaming on servers they don't own or pay for unless you pay them. They literally aren't providing a service, they're just blackmailing the public (the same as Sony and Microsoft). No matter what they offer on the service, it won't change that fact.

That said... this isn't a weekly update, this is their big biannual investor's meeting. I didn't say they could, would, or should update weekly.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack' Trailer Is Now Its Most Disliked YouTube Video Ever

link3710

@johnvboy I dunno, I don't think the messaging is striking well with casuals either. This is totally anecdotal, When I went to play smash with my friends when Sora came out, I found out two had (without talking to each other) cancelled their NSO memberships because they though the whole service was rising to $50 and didn't realize it was optional.

At least the hardcore audience understands it's optional...

Re: Review: Super Mario 64 - The Best Launch Game Ever Made

link3710

What a trolly title. The most influential launch title ever? Perhaps. The best? Certainly not. BotW, Halo, and Super Mario World are all far more consistently quality games.

Edit: before you ask, I played it first in either late '96 or early '97, and 100%ed it at least half a dozen times over the years. I love it, but it's got problems.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Won't Actually Be An Open-World Game

link3710

@DomGC That's BS. Sword and Shield DLC was the first main series content I ever skipped in my life (having gotten every 3rd version til then). If SS's base game hadn't been a disaster, there was no way I would've missed out on it. People can change their mind on buying something they usually would...
