@Serpenterror What last Zelda collection didn't sell well? The GameCube one was never even sold in stores, you had to renew a magazine subscription to get it. AFAIK, no Zelda collection has ever had a retail release.
@Teddie-bear I don't believe so. Based on the developer communication it sounds like Ty 3 is possible. It's more likely it's just going to take significantly longer to port Ty 3, so they did this as a side project so they'd have a release for the anniversary.
@MajinSoul CoD sequels started really getting complaints when they cut the story mode entirely and gameplay iteration dropped. Which, thankfully has been reversed (somewhat). But they also release them literally yearly, and the three rotating developers mean that it's not a consistent iteration and improvement. I think people would be a lot kinder to CoD if we only got every fifth game a la Splatoon's release cycle.
At least Splatoon 3 feels significantly improved when playing (based on the demo anyways). Spawning is hugely improved, the netcode appears to be better (I didn't have any wtf deaths, and that seems to be the general consensus), the specials are better than 2s imo, you can practice while waiting for games, etc.
Based on what we've seen and heard, it looks like that improvement will carry over to all modes. It might not be a must play game, but it's still going to easily be at the best option to play Splatoon if you want to play Splatoon.
@Jprhino84 Really? Cause I thought I made it clear that I don't want Nintendo to firebomb the Mario IP again when they're just starting to relax. If this succeeds, that's all but guaranteed to happen within the next decade. Dunno how that's selfish.
And to be clear... More good movies would be nice, but I really wouldn't care if I didn't think this was preface to Nintendo wrecking all creativity with Mario again to try and repair the damage these movies will do.
@UmbreonsPapa Of course I haven't. But I do know the following:
A: The entire marketing campaign so far has been about "Look at all these famous people, most of whom don't have decent voice acting experience but we hired just because they're famous." And no, I'm not saying it's all of them aren't VAs, but most of them aren't. You'd think it'd be a bad idea to cast a lead actor and actress who have basically no voice acting experience, but here we are.
B: It's Illumination, their track record is horrific.
Given those two factors, the chances of the movie being good are minimal. Again, if it's good, then good for it, but given that it almost certainly won't be I hope that we don't have yet another case of famous actors carrying a terrible movie and Hollywood getting rewarded for the practice. I hate the practice of hiring famous actors for animated movies just to act as an advertising point.
@Zequio ? I mean that'd be great if it did happen, but the chances are slim to none of this movie being even marginally acceptable. If it does great, but if not, I want it to burn financially so that there's a chance we might get a good one someday.
EDIT: Also, if this does well financially and it's a bad movie, they'll bloat the market with sequels until the Mario IP is damaged and Nintendo ends up pulling back on mario releases everywhere (again). Last time that happened we lost most of the good spin-offs and Paper Mario got destroyed, I'd rather not see take 2.
@Comicdude Dunno how it's selfish. I want more people to have good movies, and if movies like this succeed there will be less good movies for everyone to watch.
@Not_Soos It doesn't have to contradict the existing lore - Don't forget, Gerudo mate with Hylians. After enough time has passed, most, if not all Gerudo are also descended from Hylia. And more easily, it's entirely possible Link's father would be Hylian, and his mother Gerudo.
@EarthboundBenjy I mean, I like Klefki, so I agree with you, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a hard sell to most people. Binacle is honestly cute, but Barbaracle... that thing gives me the creeps.
@Thoughts Oh Tri-Color defending was super fun. Totally unbalanced mind you, but super fun. Every win felt so dang good, and the absolute chaos of defending required tons of split second decisions.
Kalos got dipped hard. Pyroar, Greninja, Talonflame, Clauncher, Pumpkabook, Trevenant, Dragalgae, Aegislash, Pangoro, Heliolisk, Florges and Gogoat all in one of the smallest dexes? And that's without mentioning favorites like Noivern, Hawlucha or Sylveon that the articles does. Tyrantrum and Auroros are only second to the Sinnoh fossils IMO. And Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde are probably my favorite box trio too. Even the mythicals are decent, with Hoopa and Volcanion being among the better mythical mons.
IDK, what a weird choice. Like I won't defend Binacle, Aromatisse, or Klefki, but it's still such a good dex.
Scissors lost mainly due to people not knowing how to defend in tricolor turf... I think it might actually be balanced well, but there's def more of a learning curve to defend than to attack.
Unlike most Nintendo series I first was introduced to on GB/NES/SNES, Zelda is one of two series I missed out on until the N64 (the other being Star Fox). I didn't get to choose games back then, so I just played whatever my grandfather bought. It was only when my father bought an N64 with Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Wave Race, and Mario Kart 64 that I finally got some Zelda in my gaming diet. We never managed to clear it before he passed away, and it wouldn't be until the collector's edition released as a bonus disc for pre-ordering wind waker that I beat it.
Although, there's a small chance I'm misremembering and I played Link's Awakening DX first? My mom got that for her Gameboy at around the same time, but I am nearly certain I didn't ask to try it until I'd gotten a taste of Ocarina of Time. Either way, I was definitely introduced into 2D/3D Zelda nigh simultaneously.
Super Metroid is probably the first video game I beat by myself tbh. I had played a few NES games with my grandfather before that, but most of my playing back then was Super Metroid, Kirby Super Star, and Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures.
@HamKnight Are they? I don't actually think I've seen anyone express much excitement for it outside of this thread (which is more people getting angry) in some time. And I say this as someone who played both 1&2 for years.
I do think the improvements to turf wars are going to be a huge improvement when you actually sit down and play them. But other than that... There's a couple new salmon run bosses and... Maybe another super short story mode? I think that's about it that's been shown off.
Like, I'll probably enjoy it, but I don't feel the marketing has made me excited yet. And that does seem to be the general consensus outside of the die-hard fandom.
Yeah, admittedly, EVO has basically nothing of interest anymore... I'm assuming FighterZ will be there at least, so that's one thing I'd like to watch. Maaaaybe I might watch KoF XV but that's it.
@russell-marlow As someone who plays both... Why is that odd? They both appeal to different moods I might be in. Heck, I'm fine with games in-between too. (Metroid, Monster Hunter, Zelda, Xenoblade, Ys, FF, Hollow Knight, Celeste, Fire Emblem, Dragon Ball, SMT/Persona, Street Fighter, Skyrim, Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy, Musou there are plenty of popular games/series that aren't murderfests or ultra cute)
@Kiz3000 I don't see how that's any different than our current system. It will never be efficient to encode the actual game in an NFT, meaning there's no difference between it and a regular license key, as they both depend on a centralized service.
If they want to stop allowing downloads once the NFT is sold, they can. You're still totally at the whims of the centralized owner.
I came expecting the usual default unreal settings, but this had generally fantastic art direction. Not sure it's exactly Zelda, but it was gorgeous to behold.
@AlexanderDaniels Or... it's also entirely possible (and more likely, given nintendo is publishing) that the DLC has nothing to do with costumes and is for some sort of expansion pass with new story content.
@Sakisa @Greatluigi @Kirby_Girl In-Game purchases is a descriptor that will show if there's a link to the eShop to buy dlc, it's not necessarily microtransactions.
@Royalblues Holy shoot, that's crazy. I live a good 1-2 hours away from NYC, and around here it's frustrating how full all the parks are lately. It feels like most of the former mall traffic has moved there.
@RupeeClock To be fair, even XC:DE wasn't done by the A-team. It was the first project of a brand new Monolith studio. Like, the A-Team wasn't completely absent, but they were focused mainly on XC3 at the time.
The only one I can think of that was done by the main team was Wind Waker HD, and that's solely because it was a way to experiment with hardware.
@victordamazio I still enjoy playing both Adventures. They might have their issues, but they're still more joyously fun to play at times than a lot of games.
I'd put them in the same boat as MegaMan Legends. Stuffed to the brim with early 3D mistakes, but still fun at their core.
@AG_Awesome 1&2 sold less than CoD, therefore they sold poorly by Activision standards, and VV was banished to only working on CoD since it makes more money.
...In the general world of games they sold well though. They were outselling every other THPS release last I heard. We know it hit 1 mil in 10 days, and that was before the Switch / PS5 / XBS? releases. Once VV was revealed to be getting scuppered sooner after, they stopped releasing sales data though, so who knows where the total is.
@Wilforce Except you can't license Nintendo's music, ... Nor do you need to for basically any other company. Other companies on YouTube will just give the ad revenue to the license holder without the creators needing to make special requests.
@HotGoomba To be fair, that sums up the comments when literally any game showed up on stream. 99% of the comments were either 'Mobile graphics', 'Major L', 'Next', or 'When's X'
