Re: Nintendo To Change Pricing For Digital & Physical Switch 2 Exclusives, Starting With Yoshi

larryisaman

As it should have been all along. Though, the most cynical side of me can only imagine this is to incentivize buying digital so they can eventually justify ditching physical altogether since they undoubtedly make way more digitally without the logistics of physical getting in the way. I don’t believe for a second that this has anything to do with reflecting the costs involved with each distribution method.

Re: Nintendo's Apparently Cutting US Switch 2 Output After Lower Than Expected Holiday Sales

larryisaman

Don’t want to hear that it doesn’t have any games. Sequel to one of the best selling games of the last decade in Mario Kart World, a GOTY-contender 3D DK game, Pokopia which is by all accounts the best Pokémon game in years. A few nice ancillary games from big franchises like Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors and excellent third party ports including flavor of the month stuff like Resi 9, on top of all the Switch 2 editions and the usual steady stream of indie games. The thing’s not even been out for a year and it nearly has more critically acclaimed exclusives than the PS5 does.

Really I think it just comes down to the fact that it is very expensive and when everything else costs so much nowadays it’s not an easy sell. They’ve probably got most of the die hard Nintendo fans to buy into it but the real challenge is getting everybody else on board and that includes kids- £430+ is a lot of money to spend on a console for kids. A Switch 2 lite sooner rather than later would be a good decision.

Re: PSA: Switch 2's "GameChat Welcome Offer" Ends This Month, Try It Out For Free While You Still Can

larryisaman

I never thought I’d use it but it’s actually turned into one of my favourite features. Been watching a friend play RE9 through it recently and it’s been a good laugh.

Also I have to say the sound quality is amazing for how far away you can be from the console when it’s docked, you don’t have to shout or anything and it picks you up like you’re next to it. The way it filters out unwanted noise is ace too, plus the fact you don’t have to mess around with a headset to chat makes it way more convenient. I just wish you could chat with random people, a bit ridiculous that it’s marketed as a key feature but you can only really use it with friends.

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Pokopia's Physical Troubles Continue As It Slips From The Podium

larryisaman

@SBandy1 Yep. If anything not buying them just sends the message that Switch 2 owners don’t want the games themselves, and if you choose the only other alternative to play them by buying it from the eShop then you’re just telling them you don’t want physical at all. Sucks but if you want these games you need to pick your poison and for physical collectors GKC is the much lesser evil since you’re still getting most of the benefits of a physical cart.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (14th March)

larryisaman

Pushed myself out of my comfort zone to play Resi 7 on Switch 2 this week. Not good with horror games but I finished it- easily the most terrifying game I’ve ever played and I loved it. Just started 8 and it’s a nice change of pace to start out in a more open area and not feel so much dread just walking around, though I’ve heard it still has its moments 😅

Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Pokopia Gets Off To An Astonishing Start

larryisaman

@GrailUK I think most people just don’t care. As for myself I was initially dead against them but have now accepted them as a better choice over digital alone since they still have most of the benefits of a physical card (being able to sell them/lend them out) and it’s an infinitely better alternative to code in a box which most publishers would be opting for if GKC wasn’t an option. Besides, if Nintendo maintains their current track record for keeping games downloadable (almost 20 years and counting for Wii) then it’ll be a very long time for GKCs to become useless and Switch 2 will have been easily hackable for ages by that point and you’ll just be able to load whatever games you want anyway.

Still though- haven’t paid more than £30 for
one yet and don’t intend to (did get the Resi pack but that worked out at £25 a game). Not paying a premium for something publishers are cheaping out on.

Re: Nintendo "Cagey" About Letting Games On Switch 2, Wants To Avoid "Slop Fest"

larryisaman

@metaphysician Ideally have a team that goes through each game and decides what kind of visibility it deserves.

Like I said, I think anyone should be able to put their game on the eShop regardless of quality- one man’s trash is another’s treasure and all that. But it’s immediately obvious when a game is low effort and low quality. If a developer wants to put crap out there then that’s fine but it shouldn’t muddy the waters and make it hard for quality games to reach an audience. As it is the recent releases tab is constantly updated with so much garbage that it’s not even worth going to it which sucks because it should be a useful way of finding new games worthy of your time.

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Pokopia 'Undersupplied' At Retail And Falls Short

larryisaman

Not surprised to see the Generations Pack drop off given how hard it’s been to find over the past week. Think they’ve underestimated demand for it and in turn made Requiem less desirable on Switch; why spend £60/70 for the standalone game when you can get a collectors edition with 2 extra titles for £15/£20 more if you have the cash?

Re: Resident Evil Requiem Has Already Sold Over 5 Million Copies

larryisaman

@johnedwin No doubt it’s done best on those platforms but the scarcity of the Generations pack/it hitting number 3 in UK charts suggests it’s doing well on Switch 2. Gen pack is no. 2 on the eShop and Requiem is no.3 atm as well. Looking like it was worth Capcom’s effort to port it over.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem Has Already Sold Over 5 Million Copies

larryisaman

@JAGleics Same here! I wanted to get around to Requiem eventually but getting 7 and 8 for an extra £15 is no brainer, didn’t realise it was such a limited thing and by the time I found out it was gone everywhere. They’d probably do well to keep it around for a bit longer seeing how popular it seems to be!

Re: Review: Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen (Switch) - Red-Hot Nostalgia In A So-So Wrapper

larryisaman

I’d love to get one of these because it’s been so long since I played it but the asking price is absurd for something that’s so easily playable by other means.

Also it really does wind me up that I’m paying for a subscription service with GBA games as a main selling point yet they decide to flog some of its defining games separately rather than include them with the sub. Glad to have the option of owning them, I think every game on it should be available to buy as well but at least put them on NSO too.

Re: UK Charts: Resident Evil Requiem Switch 2 Sales Comparable To Cyberpunk 2077

larryisaman

@Rob3008 Not useless as they can be lent out to other people and be sold on. I would prefer to have proper cartridges don’t get me wrong but while the eShop servers are still up they have obvious value and if Nintendo’s treatment of digital shopfronts is anything to go by it’ll be decades before they become useless. You can still redownload WiiWare/VC games to this day.

Re: Video: Resident Evil Requiem Side-By-Side Comparison (Switch 2 & PS5)

larryisaman

Honestly incredible how close the Switch 2 is. I would have never imagined it could be so competitive with PS5, I was expecting ports to be much more downgraded like Switch versions of PS4 games typically were. Hopefully Switch 2 is just included in plans for development of games from the off rather than as an afterthought and we see versions that hold their own throughout its lifespan.

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Analysis Of Resident Evil Requiem On Switch 2 - "Capcom Deserves Kudos For This Port"

larryisaman

@MagGnome It’s baffling! Why anyone would buy a Switch 2 expecting the best visuals is beyond me but even still the fact that it compares so favorably to PS5/Xbox in games like this and Star Wars Outlaws is mental. Way closer than the Switch was to PS4/Xbone. It should be impressive even to those who would rather play it in the best quality possible but here we are 🙄

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Analysis Of Resident Evil Requiem On Switch 2 - "Capcom Deserves Kudos For This Port"

larryisaman

@Vyacheslav333 What like Doom and Witcher 3 running at 576p handheld/dynamic 720p docked? Not that those ports weren’t impressive because they absolutely were but let’s not pretend that just getting them to run as well as they did wasn’t a massive undertaking.

And relying on DLSS isn’t developers having issues with Switch 2. It’s a core tool that allows them to get games running as well as they have been so far and for the vast majority of people the downsides of using it aren’t going to be apparent at all. Most people won’t even know it’s even a thing. Some artifacting and dithering hair is a fair price to pay to have games running at decently high resolutions and frame rates on a handheld.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening

larryisaman

NA/EU. I’ve always loved the classic Zelda boxes where it’s just a logo. Honestly wish they’d go back to it; it was like Nintendo saying you don’t need anything more than the name to get excited about it. Bold of them at the time and it’s a shame they stopped after Majora’s Mask (I think?)- they could still get away with it easily today.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Getting Pokémon FireRed Or LeafGreen On Switch?

larryisaman

@StarCollector Oh I’m not expecting it to ever get that cheap (or go on sale at all). I’m just saying that for what they’re offering I’d be happy to pay a tenner. It’s a very bare bones release besides Pokémon Home integration which means nothing to me and even if I did want to use it it wouldn’t be worth the premium. If there were any amount of meaningful quality of life improvements, online play etc. then sure, but I shudder to think how much they’d be charging if they actually did do the bare minimum to update these games. As it stands I can’t justify paying more than Silksong for a practically untouched GBA game.

Re: Talking Point: How The Heck Will MGS4 On Switch Handle Its PlayStation References?

larryisaman

“The recent release of Console Archives Cool Boarders, for instance, very carefully notes that the game originally launched on "a 32-bit home console" in the official blurb. Nintendo putting its foot down, or Hamster not wanting to take any risks?“

I can’t imagine Nintendo themselves care about this stuff. If they don’t care about third parties making reference to them on Steam descriptions (“Based on the PlayStation®3 port of the original GameCube game” for Tales of Symphonia for example) then I can’t see why they’d be bothered about direct references on their own platform. Probably just Hamster avoiding it to be safe.

As for references in MGS4 I’d like to be pleasantly surprised but I’d bet they’ll just replace certain things to be more generic or just remove some things entirely.
